Gloisil smiles a bit at the thanks that he gets for the meal. After cleaning up, he says, "I think I better try to see if I can communicate with my Uncle Hava and let him know what we have found here."
"Sunset, if you don't mind, could I examine the box after I talk with my uncle?"
Gloisil then makes his way into the octagonal room and tries to contact his uncle.
Sunset perks up from where she is settling in for the evening,
"Aye an' o'course ye can." She hops up and puts the small box upon Gloisil's bed roll for his perusal once the Gnome returns from the magic he's going to use to try and talk to the outside world.
unset returns to her bed roll that's next to desidera's and work at putting up a spare blanket as a makeshift sort of privacy screen. sunset hums softly as she works.
'I know I'd be sleepin' a lot better if'n I could set up me hammock." She comments absently to Desidera, as an attempt at 'make conversation'.
Desidera Tahn
Desidera was laying on her stomach, her armor having been set aside and inspected already, her pack nearby within arm's reach. She was waiting a little longer before she went around to check up on everyone.
Sunset's comment drew a smile from her, and a turn of her head to regard the interesting elf. "You need a magic hammock", she said with a grin, wondering what such a thing would look like. She still had not forgotten about the dark elf, and though sleep would come, it would come uneasily, and she would be jumping at the slightest sounds. The others seemed set on accepting him at face value, but she knew they were deceitful beings.. This could be just a game for him.
Mentally, she marked off one day, and wondered how high the count would get before they saw sky again...
Gyldyr

Gyldyr wondered what exactly a hammock was. He was still pretending to be studying his spellbook, a redundant activity since all his spells were already memorized, but mostly he was surreptitiously eavesdropping on his allies. The gnome and the surface elf were acting like he was a valuable ally, or even a fellow House-member, despite the fact that they had just met, and all the surface races reasonably hated him and his kind. This meant that they either were deceiving him, were desperate, or were mad. The thought also occured to him that he might be paranoid and completely out of his depth, which he immediately discarded. So he settled on "desperate" for the time being.
The human woman was acting far more rationally. However, he doubted she would act against him. When she eventually realized that he had no desire to harm her and hers, she might be an ally he could understand.
Gyldyr planned to sleep lightly. He wasn't going to return the favor of "trusting" his new allies.

Sunset's comment drew a smile from her, and a turn of her head to regard the interesting elf.
"You need a magic hammock", she said with a grin.
After handing the box to Gloisil Sunset plopped back down beside Desidera.
"Hmmm, I dun't think t'is th' hammock whut needs bein' magical." Sunset's face screwed up as she thought about her friends comment, even as she finished off the screen between the pair of them and the others. "Perhaps just some sort o' poles whut stayed where they needed t' be?" She says finally, looking to Desidera, even as she begins casting off her kit in seeming preparation for slipping 'tween her bedroll's covers.

Check out my Valegrim's homebrew 2; if it is of interest; let me know. Characters are second level.
+1 To a new player/character joining the group. =)
What yall need in your party? I've tried contacting Vale in the forum he and Sunset first got a hold of me in, but to no avail. If it's still alright that I play, I will base my character on the needs of the party.

Ok; are you going to try to call using the equipment here; or just open a line for any communication; the procedure is different.
If you try to make a call; it will take you about an hour to set up; probably best if you get glydyr to help supply some power; he would be like a power amplifier and you would be the transmitter; with this equiptment and as your uncle is close by or your village at least; it wont take much power; one lvl 1 spell from each of you to charge the system. It will take about an hour for you to set up the room with all the ingrediants and correct alignment of gears, glyphs and symbols and all gnomes but in about double what they need of everything to overcomplicate it all and confuse everyone else, thus keeping the sytem secure.
To have the system on and recieve a call; power comes in from another source; but could be from anywhere; so important that you have a spell slot(s) open to handle any excess power; so say if your village tried to call here; takes a level one spell; but they use a level 3 spell; then it has two extra slots of power; you can use a skill roll to try to transmit it somewhere else like a party call; or you can try to absorb the power so it doesnt blow up the magic device; thus you, or as many arcane users involved; act like a fuse to shunt the power.

Your sleep is restless:
As you are on a quest to recover one of the binding of the Prison of the Ancients; you have this repetative dream sent by Apollo over and over all night long; leaves you in sweat and terrorfied of failure of your task.
This dream is much like the story of Pandora who was given a box she was told to never open; she opened it and let loose all the troubles of the world; yet closed the box to contain Hope; that Hope spring eternal for all. You dream is from a view of being there; but coninues; for Pandora; afraid of the loss of Hope; broke the box into many seprate peices; like a puzzle toy; each a tiny little box; she gave Five Boxes to the Children of Earth (Dwarves) Five Boxes to the Gentle Giants (Ogre) Three to the Forest Children (Elves) and The One to the Emperor of Isledur. Thus the prison would be hidden and Hope remain; but the Troubles that escapes seek their Sister to rejoin them, and they plot and steal and kill, and have gained many boxes. Beneath you is the Last Box held by the Children of Earth. All the Boxes that were with the Ogre fell when the Ogre became Lost. The Elf Lords hold only one box; two lost in the Elf/Dwarf Wars, yet two others have been recovered by heroes (and I think are safe under the guardian inside a colossus or perhaps with Sebastion, but that you dont know; just a flash of the heroes who recovered the two lost ones) The Master Box is Lost, counted safe; lost with the Imperial Man in the Closet of Mind.
thus, as Apollo sees some event; you get this insight from his power of prophesy of current events. As a player you can check out the other Homebrew for a bit of additional info; as Apollo is watching as a group of heroes tries to save Mother Earth; Hestia I think.

I am not sure how the party wants to fill out; sneaky; magic; or what; but I would think some type of warrior would be needed; and is always nice to represent a variety of races for roleplay.
Just keep in mind that this is a campaign; but in this dungeon your enemies will be mostly goblinoids.

Gloisil goes in and sets up the communication equipment to just receive a message to see if his uncle is trying to reach him as he said that he would in his earlier message.
It is fortunate that it is the end of the day as Gloisil is aware that he may have to absorb any excess arcane energy from the incoming message, or try to shunt it away back into the gnome communication system.
If a message isn't received in an hour, then he will ask Gyldyr if he will assist him in providing enough arcane energy to power the equipment and send a message as Gloisil has only enough arcane power left at the moment to cast a single higher power spell.

you should really read the character creation stuff I wrote when I started my first homebrew a few years back; will see if I can dig it up; might be in the first few pages of this thread.
Done, I'll communicate with you via e-mail from now until the game starts so we don't clog up the forums :P

Gloisil is sitting in the communication room half listening for an incoming message. He would like to get some sleep like Desidera and Sunset so he could regain his magical energy for the coming day, but he would really like to hear from his uncle, and so he waits patiently, hoping for a message to come through.
After awhile he decides to rest and initiate a message after regaining his spells. He quietly goes into the other room, careful not to disturb Sunset, Desidera, and Gyldyr, and retrieves his bedroll and makes a place to sleep near the communication device in case a message comes in.

<Hava>
"is this thing on?" <magical feedback that blasts your ears and rattles your teeth>
<Hava's image flickers in and out a bit; then stablilizes>
"Ah, it is you; good; not some flea bitten knob of a gobbie in Jocko's Place. Well, what news my boy? did you get the Seal yet? I heard through the Imperial grapevine; that Kosan Yadda Yadda Big Britches, sent a contingent of dwarven warriors; a few broke brain ones among em; to secure the seal; you seen any dwarves about?"
Gloisil Murigel
"Uncle, good to see ya! I'm afraid that we have not found the Seal yet, nor have we seen any Dwarfs. We have found what I believe is Yuri Brighteyes workroom. We also found the communication equipment behind a secret door, and another secret door that leads to three other doors that I believe are his and his assistants private quarters, but we have not been able to open those doors with out breaking them down, but I was hesitant to do so."
"There is no sign of Yuri or his workers and I fear the worst for them."
"We have not been able to find a way down to the lower levels where I fear that the Seal may be. Could you perhaps assist us by giving us some direction from where we currently are located?"
Valegrim
Hava:
"yuri; he tends to keep his keys in books, botanical in nature; look soem one of roses or lillies or something like that; he was dillagent about a journal; probably in his room; might give you a idea of the situation.
now; i heard a funny tale; you might want to hear; Seems; there is this Elven ranger that is worshiped by some Goblins; now, not the goblins of this land; this is on another continent; anyhow; seem the Southern Orks; one UggmaR, heard Kosan was sending some dwarves to do a heroic deed; so UggmaR sent 100 Orc from the South to upstage them. Now keep in mind; these Orks are in alliance with the Empire and best you not offer any violence unless they do; they pleanty tuff and will stick to some variance of the rules; so keep that in mind; they are loyal to the Emperor, but this rivalry is personal between UggmaR and Kosan; can tell you about that later if you like; so be polite; but firm; after all; they are orks. Now, about this goblin; see; these goblins well; they bred with some were rats ok; and had some big sicko Orgy with the Champion of Choas; well, I heard the Broken Toe clan is also sending some champions to get the Seal to present as Tribute to their Elven Goddess. Now; Goblin tribes hate each other mostly; you probably have three or four there already; but they are local; these Broken Toe's are gonna stick out; literally, but they will fanatically kill any goblin they see and sacrifice them to their Goddess; so; maybe Sunset can keep them off you; better tell her.
now; the hold; well; there are about five places to check; but I would start with Dumathions area as most likely his holy devoted had the seal to start with; to complex to tell you; look around for a map; but it is generally in the lowest; least populated areas; not far from the forges if that helps; they ar few; so if you see a lot of dwellings and shops; that is not the area."
Gloisil Murigel
"Thank you for the information uncle. I will be sure to pass that one bit of information along to Sunset.
We did find an elevator that would take us down to some lower levels, but the controls are smashed and none of us has the skills to repair it. Maybe I can find something here in Yuri's lab to fix it.
We'll keep moving as fast as we can, sounds like we've got lots of competition now. Anyway, I hope to be seein' ya later, goodbye uncle."
After finishing his discussion with Hava, Gloisil sits again where he laid out his bedroll and cast a spell to help him discover the full magical nature of the items that they have discovered in the lab.
Gloisil cast Detect Magic, checks the box that Sunset gave him for magical properties, and then finishes the detailed examination of the other two items that were found to see if he can get any more information about them.
He then rests and after arising, waits for the others to arise so that he can discuss what he has learned. While he waits, he searches for keys to the other rooms, maps to help them find their way, and Yuri's journals. He also looks for anything that may help in the repair of the elevator controls.
Search (Taking 20): 21, carefully searching through books, shelves, papers, whatever else may be there.

Gloisil "seeing" that the box has a spell cast upon it, decides to open it up, hoping that it is not another "interesting trap" left behind by Yuri. He then turns his attention on the ring and dagger.
Valegrim
it is a box of many flavored candies and chocolates; a favorite among gnomes who get them from halfling traders; in some places these are good as gold and rare in this time of strife and war in most places; more common in your village due to the large number of halflings there.
The dagger has enchantment magic; the ring has enchant and alteration magic.
also; looking round in books; (if you want some titles let me know) you find a key; fairly large key; with several gemstone dials and wheels and flanges of different shapes and sizes, slots and grooves; hmm; is this one of hte fabled Master Keys? If so a fortune is in your hands and rare is the lock can withstand this key.

Gloisil "seeing" that the box has a spell cast upon it, decides to open it up, hoping that it is not another "interesting trap" left behind by Yuri. He then turns his attention on the ring and dagger.
Gloisil Murigel
While Gloisil is searching the room after sleeping, he talks idly about what he found out through his studies and his conversation with his uncle.
"Well Sunset the box that you found was a box of magically preserved halfling candies and chocolates. They will be a nice treat after our next few meals."
Gloisil hands the box back to Sunset.
"The box has a preservation spell cast upon it, so when it is empty, you can put other food stuffs in it to preserve them ..."
"The dagger and the ring are magical, one feels warm to the touch, the other cold. The dagger has some sort of enchantment magic upon it, and the ring enchantment and alteration magic, but that is all I can tell until we can find a higher level magic user that can identify them better, or perhaps I gain that skill at a later time, or we find out just by experimentation, although that path has it's own dangers."
Upon finding the key, Gloisil holds it up says, "Look what I have found, I believe that it's on of the fabled Master Keys.
Gloisil then heads back down the gnome sized passage to see if he can use the key to open any of the three doors. As he does so he tell the others about the dwarfs that are coming, and the orcs that have been sent to fight them and Broken Toe goblin band that are coming to acquire the Seal for themselves.
"Sunset, Uncle Hava says that you may be able to keep the goblins from attacking us due to the fact that they worship an elven goddess."
"The orcs are aligned with the Empire, so he says that we should not fight them, unless they attack first, and we are to look for the dwarf's that have been sent here."
"He says that the Seal will probably have been kept in a special holding area, deep in this city. He says there are a few of these storage areas, but the most likely one is near the forges. He says our best bet is to find a map of the complex, seems to think there is one around here. Hopefully this key will let us into these other rooms so we can check them."
Sunset
When Gloisil pokes his head around her makeshift curtain and begins babbling about something, all Sunset can do is muzzily blink at him...
When Gloisil wanders off, talking something about a master key, Sunset sighs, gives Desidera a gentle hug and then gets up to greet a new day. casting 'prestidigitation as needed to clean things and straighten things out, before shucking into her adventuring gear again.
She pads on bare feet over to the Gnome sized corridor and catches the last of Gloisil's conversation...

She folds down and sits upon the floor,
"At's all good Gloisil, but whut's in'a box then?" She asks, then giggles,"I'm gon'a have t' practice some t' get ready t' play this 'Goddess' gig then, hey?"

Desidera woke as everyone was doing their morning readying, rising and stretching with a mood that was sure to be termed "uncertain". The expression on her face said she had not slept all that well, though she had gotten rest. Her morning routine, was just that: routine. Armor was examined and donned, inventory was taken-- why did she smell chocolate?-- and then she settled herself on her folded bedroll as she sat for an hour, lifting the light within her to the light that she knew was outside, above their heads.
The expression on her face smoothed away as she prayed, and ended as she sighed and slumped from her rigid posture, opening her eyes and looking around at everyone. Of course, she watched the Dark Elf first, however, still trying to figure his motives.
She set to checking everyone's wounds, asking curiously, "Did anyone dream last night?"

As Desidera checks her bumps and scratches over while asking her question Sunset reaches out and gently hugs her friend,
"Aye, an' I could tell ye weren't havin' th' best o' time in yer own head, luv." She says softly, then draws Desidera closer and sniffs her hair deeply,
"Here now, that be odd." Sunset exclaims, "I definitely remember th' aroma of chocolate..." She lets go of Desidera and turns to look over at Gyldyr,
"Now, if'n it weren't commin' from you..." She says quietly as she begins to stalk slowly towards the other Elf...
Be vewy, vewy qwuiet, we is huntin' chocolate....(^_^)

Gyldyr eyed the surface elf curiously. He seemed to recall that chocolate was a delicacy from the surface; if he had ever had any, he didn't remember. "No, I don't have any chocolate," he assured her. "However, the good gnome found some confections in that box he handed to you. You may want to check there. Also, that box magically preserves foodstuffs."
He turned to the human woman. She was, apparently, a divine healer of some sort. To be completely honest with himself, that power unsettled him slightly, though he hid his discomfort. It was fortunate he was not in need of healing. Gyldyr didn't know if her patron would take offense at his race. "No, I did not dream. Is there a particular reason you ask?" Perhaps she had been visited by one of her god's servitors with a mysterious vision. This was a decidedly odd group.

Sorry, I thought I had said in a previous post that Gloisil rested after examining the box, ring and dagger, so you can advance us 8 hours, it's okay with me. I should have also cast Detect Magic on the key when I found it. Also, as Gloisil has no ranks in Use Magic Device, he cannot try to use it then because that skill can only be used trained.
Gloisil will cast Detect Magic on the key, and concentrate on it for the time required to find out everything he can about it.

Desidera's response was stalled by Sunset bouncing over and offering chocolate! Her face immediately brightened and she smiled, looking into the box and picking one at random, since she just wanted to taste. A ray of light, indeed! "Oh my.. ilioula, this is just wonderful!" Popping her chosen chocolate into her mouth, she savored the taste of heaven demurely, turning back to the dark elf who had asked a question once she had finished eating the treat.
"I dreamed of a box, split into pieces, so that what it contained could never be lost, spread about the races... Apollo watches as some venture, and there are more pieces lost than found, but the true piece is safe.. What lay at the bottom of this place is a piece."
Gyldyr

"Apollo is your god?" Gyldyr asked curiously. If he remembered correctly, Apollo was a god of light, among other things. "I might venture a guess that the box is symbolic, and the "piece" at the bottom of this place is also symbolic; perhaps an enchanted item."
Gyldyr waited a few moments to make sure that the delicacies weren't poisoned. "If it isn't too presumptuous of me, I would like to try some of that "chocolate"."

Sunset is too busy and happy watching Desidera's face and the emotions of pleasure that play across it as she savors the moment of bliss that is the chocolate. She is already turning towards Gyldyr when the other Elf asks,
Gyldyr waited a few moments to make sure that the delicacies weren't poisoned. "If it isn't too presumptuous of me, I would like to try some of that "chocolate"."
Sunset 's face lights up immediately,
"O'course ye c'n be havin' som'a th' treats!" She declares plopping down right beside him as she offers him the box so that he can choose his own delight. As Gyldyr's fingers hover over the box's contents he realizes that the brown skinned Elf is looking at him intently. Could it be that Sunset has used this excuse to get well within Gyldyr's personal space...?

Sorry, wrong alias on the last post too. I'm makin' mistakes left and right now. Think I better slow down and make sure of what I'm doin'
"Sunset, Desidera, Gyldyr, do any of you have the ability to use magical devices? I'm pretty sure that this key is enchanted."
Our DM of course has already said so, but while we wait for the details from my casting Detect Magic on it, we'll move forward.
"I just have my natural ability to use magic, but have no training in useing such devices ... Yet.

Distracted by Gloisil's call, Sunset looks over to the Gnome.
"Not I, sorry. Though I c'n all'a ways, y'know, just give it a try?" She says hopefully, seeming ever eager to help a freind.
"Maybe somat whut me N'uncle told me some where's will come in useful?" Sunset suggests, reminding others of her Bardic background. She turns mercurially on Gyldyr to watch his reaction to the chocolate.

Gyldyr's eyes widen in surprise at his first taste of chocolate. This was delicious. Better than anything that his family's vast feasts had offered. Maybe there were more perks to the surface world than he had thought...
After the chocolate was devoured, he returned the box to Suny. "Thank you. That was delicious," he said sincerely. He takes a moment to give the brown-skinned elf a long, appraising look. She was pretty, even if she were of an inferior race. Maybe more perks to the surface world than he had thought, indeed.
At the gnome's question, Gyldyr answered, "I may well be able to use the magical device."
Detect Magic to see how strongly the key is enchanted, and with exactly what kind of magic.

Gloisil starts to hand the key to Gyldyr, but pauses and shakes his head as a broad grin spreads across his face after Sunset plants a kiss on the dark elf's cheek.
"Come on Gyldyr, quit your flirtin' with the surface elf, and come see what ye can do with this key", Gloisil says, obviously joking as he has an ear to ear grin, something that is rare to see on the usually dour gnome.
