This area is permeated with layer upon layer of centuries of magic cast, held and summoned in this room; swirls of power eminate but you notice two missing schools; no necromancy; no evocation. do you continue to scrutinize?
Visibly brightening, Gyldyr stands just outside the door and scans the room for any magical traps, residual spells, or signs of unpredictable magic.

Your fairly certain you have the knowlege to work this and reach your Uncle or at least the wizard running the (VGCD) Village Gnome Communication Device in your home village.
you also recognise that the figurines are types that are used for instant summoning of powerful guardians; if you can figure out the command word; they would be a big help if you were sorly pressed in battle.

Are there any other exits from the octagonal room? I am also guessing that the figurine in the room is of a size that could be easily carried? Is the communication device portable, can we take it with us?
"Gyldyr, I think we should check the other door before we attempt to use the communication device to contact my village. I think I can work it well enough to try to get in touch with my uncle."
"The figurine may also be useful as it can be used to summon a powerful guardian in times of need. I would just need to try and determine the command word to use it."
"The sooner that we determine how safe this location is, the sooner that we can setup camp, eat, and I can spend some time investigating these items. If this place is not safe, then we need to communicate with my uncle and move on."
Gloisil's usual dour attitude is now returning as he is beginning once again to feel the weight of the the task that they have been given. He then moves over to the other door and waits for Gyldyr to manipulate the figurine that unlocks and opens the door. He has his wand ready in case it is needed.

The summoning circle is the main part of the communication device; so no. The figurine is 12" high and wieghs about 5 lbs. There are no obvious exits but I suppose the summoning circle could be an exit.
Also; using the circle as a communication device takes quite a bit of arcane energy; you will probably need other players to help and be like a battery.
<am gonna contact the knight that was playing and find out why he hasnt posted, hmm>

Okeys! (^_^)
Even after the brown skinned Elf's tummy has protested so obviously at not being fed 'right now', Sunset is soon caught up in looking, poking and prodding almost everything and every where around the room.
As she does so little sounds of 'Oooh' and 'Ahh' escape her lips at whatever things of interest do catch her eye.

Everything else is pretty much the furnishing you would expect; you could take some paper and writing charcoal; inkpots; calipers and stuff like that; just magic user furnishings for a summoning room. There are probably books of names and summoning stuff, you figure, but you dont see them here. They are probably very well guarded.

"Sunset, Gyldyr is right, a little caution would probably be for the best."
Sunset sits upon the floor, her arms still over her head. She pouts and shifts sideways, away from the box, with skuffs and pushes of her bare feet and trouser-ed seat.
"Stoopid piece o' wood....not worth t'effort o' findin' it..." She mumbles...still obviously put out by the bang she's received to her head as she glances sideways at the item that came out from under the bench when she did.

Desidera had taken to examining some of the nearby experiments in more detail, as the others were poking about as suited them. None of the looking around or complicated fiddling was anything that she was particularly good at, with her specialized knowledge. She had looked up at the sound of an impact and Sunset's exclamation, and stopped trying to make sense of the notes of one experiment (though she did her best not to touch anything) when she heard something about living quarters.
She looked into it as the angle afforded her, giving Sunset a bemused smile and a comforting hug, raising a dubious eyebrow at the box that had been found. The dark elf had not tried to betray them yet, but perhaps it was because he was outnumbered.. Figuring out what she was going to do when they had to sleep had not entered her head yet.

"If I had to guess, I'd say that those are the private quarters of Yuri Brighteyes and his assistants, but we can find out later. I suggest that if we close the trapped door into the hallway, that we should be safe enough in here to rest and have a meal. That will give me an opportunity to study the items that we found on the shelf further. If anyone of you has the skills necessary to open those doors, your more then welcome to try. Gyldyr rummages through his pack, quickly finding a small parcel. "I am unfortunately low on rations myself, but I have some food," he remarks, unfolding the parcel to reveal a few large dried mushrooms.
Seems to make sense as a drow's snack food.
He leaves the parcel beside the patch of bare ground where dinner is being seen to, then finds an area in the room as far as possible from everyone else and organizes it just enough to make room for his bedroll, being very careful not to disrupt anything magical and possibly explosive.

Gloisil goes over to the door that he used to gem to unlock to make sure that if they close it, that it can be opened again. At one point in the preparations he takes some of the dried mushrooms that Gyldyr offers and adds them to the rest of what ever he has put in the pot, returning the rest.
"Thank you Gyldyr, that will make an interesting addition to the stew. It will be ready in not too long."
Gloisil absently stirs the stew he is cooking as he talks. He then mutters something in the quick gnomish language once everything has been added to the kettle.
A little while later, with a final stir with his wooden spoon, he again says a phrase in gnome and then says, "It's ready to eat."

Sunset brings the small box to Gloisil's attention again,
"I did find this over there." She indicates both the item and the bench under which she found it. Then happily folds her lanky frame down beside Desidera and enjoys the filling, tasty repast. Quite happy to be full of good food and good beer.

Desidera was not often curious, since following her calling had shown her far more than she though she would see (or ever wanted), but the small experiment that she was examining earlier was intriguing.
The stew was accepted graciously, and certainly enjoyed as well. Ever since Gloisil had started cooking, her stomach was practically demanding that she eat something. When the bowl was finished, she leaned back against Sunset contentedly and sighed pleasantly. Somehow, the addition of food to their situation made things seem as if they were not all that bad for now.
She did not want to think about what lay ahead.
She lay on her bedroll, expecting to be asleep instantly, but sleep was long in coming... So instead, she looked up at the ceiling, occasionally glancing at the dark elf-- though he seemed neutral towards them, she was not yet sure-- and let her mind wander until sleep found her.

"Sunset, if you don't mind, could I examine the box after I talk with my uncle?"
Gloisil then makes his way into the octagonal room and tries to contact his uncle.
Val, let me know if I need to make any kind of check to use the communication device.
