As it turns out, Pluto isn't the God of death. He is only the caretaker of the underworld. He makes sure things are kept in check. The real god of death is Thanos. And Thanos is basically the god that keeps things dead. Most gods actually prefer the dead to stay that way.
In Greek mythology Pluto, one of the three brothers if memory serves (the other two being Zeus and Poseidon), is the God of the Underworld and Lord of Hades (Hades basically is the Underworld). Kinda like Zeus for the sky, Poseidon for the sea and Pluto for the earth.
Thanatos (not so much Thanos) is the personification of Death, as thanatos is actually the Greek word for death.

I agree they need to be adapted, CG for Apollo just surprised me.
As for killing, Hephaestos didn't do those things either.
I'm still a bit in doubt as to what to make. I'm looking at either an archery focused follower of Artemis (or possibly of the twins together) or a militant Dwarven smith devoted to Hephaestos (and paying lip service to Athena). I'd be looking at going for the invention angle with him, striving to create his own warforged.

I know who nemesis is. She's my friends favorite Greek god. I'm sorry, but because of my unfamiliarity with the class I'm gonna have to say no. But I am allowing 3pp class abilities.
Nemesis is LN.
Alright I undestand that it can be hard to keep up with all the classes that Paizo creates. Can the women in your world have a strong social position or are they see as inferior? (I was wondering about playing a female character).
Anyway let's see first what I can hope for.
3d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 5, 3) + 6 = 20
3d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 1, 3) + 6 = 13
3d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 1, 5) + 6 = 13
3d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 1, 3) + 6 = 14
3d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 6, 3) + 6 = 21
3d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 6, 3) + 6 = 20
So that's a 17/12/12/13/18/17. Seems decent enough! According to your answer to the question of gender I'll go Unchained Rogue/ Sorcerer/ Arcane Trickster (if that's a man with that hero of the people idea in mind) or Psychic with a woman, a noblewoman who is also a professional strategist and who worships Athena.
Timeskeeper |
Well, also keep in mind Ancient Roman, Greek, and Egyptian mythology was more of a battle of Order vs Chaos then Good vs Evil. While of course there are gods and goddesses that fall into the Good and Evil categories the Lawful and Chaotic would be easier to grasp.
Look at the Titans, creatures made of natural disasters that do nothing but cause chaos. I mean just look at the civilizations, it wasn't really a place of upstanding morals but everything did have its place. It was an Orderly society, build upon laws, not upon good.

Women are treated as equals, they are often in positions of leadership as a voice of reason, as representatives to the families.
And yeah, that's a good explanation of the gods Timeskeeper. I have to keep balance myself by altering some of the gods personalities to more likeable persona. As for the gods all being huge jerks, That's my problem!
Timeskeeper |
I don't really think the gods being jerks is a problem. After all it makes them more... understandable. That is something I will give a lot of mythology from that area, the gods while being all power, each had their own flaws that the mortals who worshiped them could relate to.
Zeus had an unending lust
Hera was pron to fits of jealousy
Ares had fits of rage and was a coward at some points
Athena was very competitive
Apollo has an easily wounded pride and heart
Artemis was easy to anger

Hi waz up,
Chess here! Sorry I took so long for my submission - I changed my previous idea completely, after you mentioned the Egyptian mythology thing, and wanted to try something on these lines. I know we're having difficulties with the PMs, so I'm posting the character here for your appreciation. Any feedback is welcome! Please let me know if you want more on the background side; I didn't have a full context of the campaign, so I summarized details on the profile.
Thanks for running it!

OK, here's my idea.
Decided to keep to my pankration idea. He's a son of a noble family in Athens (or whatever city would be dedicated to Athena in this world) and while being extremely strong, is also pretty smart, which pleases his goddess. He uses skill rather than simple brute force in his fighting.
Patroclus comes from a rich family in the city, which is how he can afford to spend his time training for the olympiad in his chosen event. He's a nice enough fellow, and doesn't hold a grudge. He takes losing as an opportunity to learn to do better. Honestly his life is fairly short on adversity. This is not to say he's been pampered, but that is solely due to his training. Once away from his estate and training gymnasium, he's going to be in for some revelations as to how the world actually works.

If it's not too late, I'd be interested in a devotee of Hephaestus (Vulcan, to the Romans). He was kind of the dwarfy god, being patron of smithing and the like, so a dwarf seems natural, but a warforged would make a lot of sense too, or even a plane touched, either an Ifrit or Oread (to go with his associations with fire, earth, volcanoes, etc). The first idea that came to mind was the dwarf racial paladin archetype, the Stonelord, presumably using a hammer. But there's already a paladin in the party, so perhaps something else. What is the deadline? Any specifics on Hephaestus? I'd thinking maybe a CG alignment, he seems pretty chill as long as no one messed with him (though he quite naturally took serious issue with Ares sleeping with his wife), but he also had a habit of flouting authority (like when he trapped his mother on her throne in revenge for her mistreating him, then refused Zeus's instruction to fix it. Dionysus had to get him drunk to talk sense into him. lol) A nice drawback might be something along the lines of the Lame oracle curse; Hephaestus was lame in classic myth, after all. Perhaps a permanent reduction in speed or a minus to some Dex-based checks or something?
DM waz up? |
Pertaining Hephestus/Vulcan, he is CN, as the God himself wasn't really all to good. Now this contradicts dwarves society, but dwarves in this world are less organized and are not as millitaryistic.
Hephestus is still God of forges, fire, volcanoes, and now dwarves
He built the first warforged(which Aries copied later on, followed by Zeus) as a gift to Athena, who had always been kind to him. He hates his mother, Hera, for mistreating him (tossing him off Olympus would to that), and of course there is his hate for Aries who seems to steel everything from him.
And he wasn't lame so much as deformed and Ugly. He fits Dwarves greatly for this, reason as most dwarves aren't too good looking themselves. Now, the lame curse does make sense though. But most dwarves already are slow and can't be encumbered by weight.
As for deadlines, because interest has slowed down, I'll give it until Friday. Oracle would be great! We need more healers in the applications.
DM waz up? |
Well, here is a list of favored weapons:(BTW: I'm separating the persona of Aries and Mars, they are so different from each other that I can't not do this)
Zeus/Jupider:Javelin
Posiden/Neptune:Trident
Hadies/pluto:Chain Whip
Athena: Heavy Mace
Mars:shortspear/Heavy steel shield
Aries:Greatsword
Venus/Aphrodite: Razor scarf
Dionysus:(not sure here)
Artimis:shortbow
Apollo:Longbow
Hera/Juno:(not sure here)
Hermies/Mercury:Shortsword
Hephestus/Vulcan:Warhammer
Lupa(the mother wolf):Natural attacks/Dagger
As for any others, I'm up for suggestions.
