Ed's Shades of Blood

Game Master fine_young_misanthrope

Recruited as research assistants in anticipation of a rare celestial event, the PCs arrive on a remote island in the remnants of Azlant. While there, a column of shadow erupts from the sea and washes across the sky dimming the sun and unleashing shadowy monsters. Investigating the dangerous anomaly, the PCs discover a ruined Azlanti prison inhabited by vampires and learn that the column of shadow was only a test run for an ancient vampire planning to use Azlanti magical technology to blot out the sky, shielding the dangers of the sun so they can escape their island prison and reunite with their lover from the times before Earthfall.

Hello all!
I'd like to run the Shadoes of Blood adventure path. I am holding three spots right now as my brothers are interested but unsure if they can play. I'd like to get six PC to join up total. If you would like more information on the game, please check out the player guide here: Player guide
I'd like a one post a weekday commitment from my players, but I understand that crazy stuff happens. Heck, I nearly lost one PC when there were wildfires in California, so I understand life happens!
Post if interested!

Hey, is it possible to know what the other players are playing? Will make it easier to narrow down the options.

What's up GM!

Loved your Rusthenge game so wouldn't mind going through another dungeon with you again.

What are your brothers looking to play? I can work around their options - I have in mind a flurry ranger, a magus, a thaumaturge and a warpriest.

Also what options are available? Do we get uncommon or rare options, Free Archetype, etc?

I have a question or two

Will the astronomer play a big part as an NPC?

Would you consider 3pp material like BattleZoo for ancestry options?

And like the others, what spots are taken? Ancestry/class wise?

Here is Kiragio, a Centaur Guardian. He was a farmhand whose farm was ravaged by Orcs. He carries a Breaching Pike and a Steel Shield

Kiragio is Medium size, and has the Mount trait. So, if there is someone in the party who is Small, they can ride Kiragio (albeit both lose an action).

Wait. A vampire driven storyline and it's NOT set in Ravenloft??

Could definitely be interested. Probably in a Cleric of some kind.
Hmmm. A follower of Sarenrae almost seems a must-have. I'd likely go with that.

Same questions. :)

Free Archetype or ancestral paragon allowed?

Alchemist sounds fun. I'd like to be considered. I don't have much experience with pbp, though.

Currently Unnamed Human Cloistered Cleric of Sarenrae
Under Construction, but the basics are there, sans equipment.

I'll bite. I have the same questions as Thaumascourge. Are you using any variant rules? What are the pre-picked people going for in terms of party roles?

dot

Thank you for having been understanding about the fires ... was not something anyone here planned on. Would really love to be in this.

Am going to just cast my Vote for Varients:
FA
AP
GAB
Obviously the only one of those that impacts 1st level is Ancestry Paragon, but for build planning purposes it would be cool to know about the others.

@FYM - how do you handle maps? Initiative?

I enjoyed our Rusthenge game and I'd be excited to play Shades of Blood! I would hope to build a character that fits into the party, so I'll hold off on character ideas for now.

I'm a fan of all of these. Gradual ability boost really helps with qualifying for an Archetype at level 2.

Quick Bomber You keep your bombs and bomb-related reagents in easy-toreach pouches from which you draw without thinking. You Interact to draw a bomb, draw a versatile vial, or use Quick Alchemy to create a bomb, then Strike with the bomb. If you have the ability to create more than one bomb at a time with Quick Alchemy (such as from the double brew class feature), you can Strike with only one of the bombs you create with this action.
Quick Alchemy (Alchemist, Manipulate) Requirements You're either holding or wearing an alchemist's toolkit and you have a free hand. You can either use up a versatile vial to make another alchemical consumable at a moment's notice or create an especially short-lived versatile vial. Any effect created by an item made with Quick Alchemy that would have a duration longer than 10 minutes lasts for 10 minutes instead. • Create Consumable You expend one of your versatile vials to create a single alchemical consumable item of your level or lower that's in your formula book. You don't have to spend the normal monetary cost in alchemical raw materials or need to attempt a Crafting check. This item has the infused trait, but it remains potent only until the start of your next turn. (As normal, you need only one formula for an item to create any level of that item.) • Quick Vial You create a versatile vial that can be used only as a bomb or for the versatile vial option from your research field (it can't be used to create a consumable, for example). This item has the infused trait, but it remains potent only until the end of your current turn.

Background:
Tess Vrisal was taught the technique of measuring, distillation, and refining reagents as a child in a busy guild workshop in Andoran , ap prenticed to an artisan who used alchemical dyes, oils, and pigments. There she learned the painstaking process of combining, distilling, and purifying reagents. But whereas her peers were concerned with beauty and utility, Tess's interest wandered to the explosive side of her craft. What would happen if she pushed the mixture a little too far? What if a catalyst had been added at the precise wrong time?

Her early experiments involved burned benches and eyebrows but als o sp oradic glimpses of actual brilliance. Tess developed the reputation of being reckless enough to try what other people would not try risking. She was fascinated by contained destruction, seeing explosions as an alchemical power rather than wasteful destruction. A spark that would clear obstacles, make paths, o r ch ange the very essence of a material.

When gossip spread that the lizardfolk astronomer Inizkar was looking for research assistants on an expedition to Talmandor's Bounty, Tess leaped at the chance. The expedition promised not just observation of a once-in-a-lifetime celestial event from an Azlanti observatory, bu t ac cess to ancient ruins and their abandoned laboratories as well. This meant lost reagents fro m th e ages, Ancient Azlanti alchemical arts, and materials that would make her research burn in way s An doran guild workshops could not.

Among the dozens of applicants, Tess's unconventional specialty distinguished her. Most applicants offered academic credentials or careful scientific study; Tess offered expertise in harnessing explosive power precisely. Tess's bombs were an asset, not a liability.

Up front, I have little experience with PbP and none with PF 2nd edition.

You have fun questions. I have NO answers! Lol. Right now I'm seeing if they are interested. I'll get more information soon.

As for how much the NPCs play in the game, much like a college book report, I haven't done the required reading. Fun fact, I AM a college teacher-in chemistry, so take that English teachers! I don't know now how much of a role they play.

I would like to keep this sanctioned for PFS credit. I don't know abut 3rd party options and sanctioning. Don't care too much, but would like to get credit to people.

As for maps, I'm lazy and I use google sheets. You can see the map, and edit for movement et al. Initiative, I roll and then you do. I used to have people roll, but its slows things down. But, I will interpret your actions the best I can. I am merciful and want you to win!

Don't care if you are new. I don't want to fight about nuance. I want you to kick some ass and have some fun. Life is boring and full of suck the game won't be. So, we will all be friends and have a blast learning together.

very well, then i think i may be making a lizardfolk character to pair with the astronomer. what exactly class wise, is still mulling about

I don’t see using google sheets as “lazy”. If anything it makes it easier for those of us who post from phones/tablets and for whom VTT-style maps are mostly unusable.

As for Initiative, I have found that the GM rolling everyones’ Initiative (foes and PCs) dramatically increases the speed of the game, and reduces the amount of time players are waiting. Reducing player wait-times are the single most effective way to keep momentum in PbP.

Jex Akana

Fighter (class) Dhampire Lizardfolk (ancestry)

On the run from "something" (Hunted by the night background), trying to restart her life away from her past, where noone knows her name

Meets up with another of her kind, an astronomer, someone she truely can connect with, even if it's just enjoying the stars (for now)

Well, Ill assume that we're following the rules from our Rusthenge game - being that Free Archetype was on and that's all.

I think I will wait for your brothers to make their selections before I choose. But I am leaning towards a Hunted by the Night Strength Flurry Ranger who will soon pick up Double Slice and start making 2 MAPless attacks and 2 MAP1 attacks per turn. She'll cover Athletics, Survival, Nature and eventually Undead Lore.

Open to making a party filler build based on what others bring though.

Life is busy. Sadly, I think I'm going to step back from this excellent recruitment at this time. So if someone else wants a Cleric spot, there's less competition here. :)

Have fun!

Let me add my own 5 cents.

I present: Iulia Orphanus, Human Nephilim Commander Back-Alley Doctor, joining the Expedition to provide support via her medical skills, hoping for a brighter future

Background:
Iulia was an infant left swaddled on the steps of an orphanage in Egorian’s poorest quarter. The matron who found her named her Iulia and Orphanus, “the orphan,” to mark her parentless state. From the start, the other children whispered about her—her strange, ember-flecked eyes and her small horns marking her heritage as a Nephilim.

She was always an outsider, yet fiercely protective of the younger children and quick to defend them from bullies. The matrons, wary of her otherworldly features, kept her at arm’s length, but Iulia became adept at patching up scrapes and bruises—first with rags and spit, then with whatever herbs she could beg or steal.

As she grew, Iulia began to suspect the truth of her origin. Cheliax’s nobility was infamous for diabolic pacts and clandestine affairs with outsiders. Nephilim—mortals touched by the blood of fiends or celestials—were rare but not unknown, and her uncanny appearance spurred fearful glances and whispers. Though she has never discovered who her parents were, Iulia keeps a single token from her infancy: the silk she was wrapped in embroidered with an unfamiliar noble crest, hinting at a hidden legacy.

Denied the privileges of birth, Iulia survived by her wits and skill. She apprenticed to a back-alley surgeon, learning the arts of healing out of necessity. Her heritage sometimes aided her—her senses proved keener than most, allowing her to perform surgery in darker areas.

One fateful night, a botched surgery left a child dead and Iulia’s reputation in ruins. Some whispered it was diabolic ill-fortune; others, that she had crossed the wrong people. Forced to flee, she spent the last of her coin and secured passage to Arcadia, hoping to escape her Chelish past and the shadows that followed her.

In the wild settlement of Talmandor’s Rest, Iulia sought anonymity and redemption. She set up a humble practice, tending to settlers and explorers, often accepting payment in goods rather than coin.

Calypso is her young panther companion, rescued as a cub from a poacher, closest friend and silent guardian. Despite lingering suspicion due to her Nephilim features, her skill and determination have begun to win the trust of the Arcadian settlers.

She has joined the expedition to assist as a doctor and to sate her sense of adventure

Hey, if I dropped the Ponygait ancestry, then Kiragio would be large. Then, Iulia could ride -- The Guardian/Commander combo is very effective in a game I'm GMing.

Could be fun, though it might be a hindrance if there is too much dungeon crawl in narrow dungeons.

Mine if I be a Dwarf claric?

I am in I want to play a human male fighter.

I'm interested in joining. Not sure what characters have been selected, but I would like to play a barbarian or a fighter.

ill come up with another plan :P

Any news about those other players? Optional rules used?

I changed up a bit, to accomodate the others who wants to be fighters

Dhampire Vishkanya Decay Barbarian

Verdant Wheel

Hey there, Misanthrope. I also enjoyed the Rusthenge game, and would be willing to join in this one ... and think that using my PC from Rusthenge (rebuilt a bit back to Level 1) might be a fun angle. I would be playing Peat as a new arrival to Talmandor's Bounty, having set out to explore a bit after the events of Rusthenge.

I'd like to play a Palantine Detective Investigator, I think.
