Hey guys,
Tomorrow I begin a new job in a small town in rural Borneo. I'll be driving down tomorrow morning. I was (and still am) hoping that I could continue posting as normal using 3G and and a USB Dongle, but speaking today to other people who have worked in the area, they say connectivity is a real problem. I'm kind of sailing into the unknown, but there seems a real possibility that I might be unable to access the Internet for several days. There must be some kind of Internet access down there, but getting hold of it could be a real challenge.
If I disappear for several days, please NPC me as necessary, I'll do my best to let you know how the situation develops and hopefully I'll be able to return to regular posting after a little while (and it might turn out that there's no problem at all).
In the meantime, Morythine will live a 'poor' existence. He'll also share the loot equally amongst his companions (he's not really interested in pawning the gear, but definitely wants a cut of the shiny gold pieces).
I'll try and get another Gameplay post in before I depart, but this may not be possible.
Sorry for the inconvenience!

Hey Thron, are you saying it's logistically easier for the game if Zoli stays at one of the inns instead of at her home?
If so, I can certainly roleplay it that way.

DM Thron |

No, by all means you can continue living at your house if you choose. I assumed returning home for the first time would be an emotional time for Zoli, and typed that up as such.
As long as each month you pay the "Average" fee up front you can live there. Eventually, if you want, you can "buy" the house from the Sandpoint Mercantile League using the Downtime rules for buying "rooms." It'd be a purely RP thing though.
Otherwise, the house is "owned" by the League and you are essentially renting it.

Do I still have time to do one fairly major change to Kala? I want to switch her wisdom and charisma scores. I picked the higher wisdom score simply because of the +2 to will and perception, but in my mind she's developing into a charismatic, leader of the group type personality. That, along with her penchant to talk before killing (excluding things already attacking innocent people) makes me think the charisma is more true to her character, if mechanically inferior.

Doing it, I'll rework the stuff in a couple hours when I get home. Also, thank you for indulging my want to fix my poor choice of mechanics over roleplaying.

Yeah, my baby was born Wednesday at 10:50 pm, just got back from the hospital like 2 hrs ago.
Also, Alina hasn't posted in like 12-14 days, kinda worried about him/her.

Unfortunately it's been my experience that people pretty frequently disappear on the PBP boards. Always have to hope nothing bad happened to them IRL.

Eugeni Silva |

Well Crusty mentioned having a lot going on in real life right now with some job hunting. He's probably just more focused on you know, having money than PBP at the moment. He'll show back up eventually if his pattern from the last two years holds.

DM Thron |

Going to go ahead and start moving things along, as it would appear that only a couple of you showed any interest in the small vignettes I provided for each of you. If you would like to do any backtrack RP, please feel free, but I'm not going to wait around for that minor part any longer.
Also, I'd like to see who is still even actively around. Alina has went MIA for a week beyond what they had previously said they'd be gone, and Baern has been spotty since the beginning. Unless I hear otherwise from them, I am strongly considering bumping them to alternate status until they can return to a regular posting pace.
This is no offense to them, as I know life can be hectic, but I want to keep things moving along at a good pace, and don't want others to have to wait to move things forward. So I'm gonna give 'em a few days to let me know what's up before I make a final call on that. For now, those of you who are around feel free to dive back into the gameplay thread.

Zoli Tileani |

Thron & gang, I hope to post today or tomorrow but just a heads up that life is extra hectic (with happy this) until Thurs am.

Morythine Ettes |

Getting online has been a real struggle these last few days, but I'm hoping to get a proper post up later today or tomorrow. Congrats on the baby Kala - boy or girl?

Girl, and she's kept me real busy, sorry about the infrequency of posts. I just got one in the gameplay thread, I should be able to post every day again.

With a +12 to her roll, it would've been tough for us to beat.
Very much an aside (not a suggested house rule, just a point of interest) but I've been curious about the way the Gumshoe system (including the game Trail of Cthulhu, which uses that system) handles investigation. From this review:
GUMSHOE is built around a simple proposition, albeit one viewed as heretical by many Call of Cthulhu fans: characters in an investigative game should be given the clues for free. In other words, players need not “Spot Hidden” to find the essential manuscript, pass a “Listen” check to hear the scratching behind a secret door, or miss out on a key piece of information because they failed to interrogate a wino four scenes back. If an Investigator is in a location containing a clue, and has a skill appropriate for finding it, the Keeper forks it over. No dice rolls, no chance of failure, no games derailed for want of a well-hidden journal.
GUMSHOE accomplishes this by dividing an Investigators skills into two broad classes: Investigative and General. Investigative Abilities, such as Occult and Flattery are those that enable players to learn things, and work automatically. If a character in the story has information and is susceptible to flattery, for instance, a player need only declare that they are laying on the charm to get the goods. General Abilities like Firearms and Fleeing, on the other hand, are those that enable players to do things. Unlike Investigative Abilities, General Abilities require a dice roll, and can result in failure. So while finding the combination to the safe is a given, sneaking past a rogue shoggoth is not without risk.
Some Call of Cthulhu players find this to be even more blasphemous than the creatures they face. Finding clues is the entire point of a mystery they argue, and removing that element neuters the game. The creators of GUMSHOE beg to differ, and cite as evidence for their position the traditional police procedural, where the finding of the clues is a given, be it Sherlock Holmes spotting mud on a suspect’s shoe or the CSI team sweeping a motel room for DNA. The interesting part of the story, they posit, is in the interpretation and synthesis of the clues, as the detectives move from scene to scene drawing ever closer to their quarry. GUMSHOE works by deprecating the drudgery of evidence collection and highlighting the fun of piecing together the Horrible Truth.
Even without a system like my beloved 3.x though, if it's important I figure you can drop additional hints (with or without rolls) or if it's not we can just skip it.
Back on topic though, I'll get in at least a brief post tonight.
Cheers,

Zoli Tileani |

Yes, seems very reasonable that there are important people around with something to hide...who're much better at such things than our 2nd level selves.

I think he bought them. I mean, he bought me 200gp scale barding, I think he could get you all 100ish gold for horses/tack. Also, the poor sod doesn't realize that he has no chance with Kala, and since she's oblivious to the whole flirting thing, she hasn't told him so. (For the record, Kala likes girls, not guys. However, I have no intention of inflicting some lesbian love vignette on you all.)
Completely off topic. Paizo's boards drive me nuts because they shorten the double space between sentences to a single space. It just looks bloody wrong to me.

I mean explicit sex scenes aside (that's just not appropriate for these boards), I wouldn't be bothered if Kala were to find a girlfriend. My female characters are usually lesbians too. I had one who was a serial castrater in one PBP, but that was kind of a joke game.
Re:Horses - Unless they are combat trained I'm not going to bother naming/statting out my horse.

Zoli Tileani |

Kala, if it helps you come to peace with single spaces after periods, that has been the undisputed standard amongst typographers for the last sixty years, is what all style guides advocate, and what all computer fonts were designed for.
It was a bit of a change for me since I learned the two space rule in typing class in the early 80s...but nowadays anything other than one space looks wrong to my eyes. (Admittedly, in the end it's just an aesthetic preference so neither is "right" or "wrong"...though this amusing, heavy handed Slate article will tell you that two is as wrong as peanut butter anchovy cupcakes.)
--Zoli Tileani, who notes parenthetically that in ancient Thassilon seven spaces after a period was considered acceptable, and some spell books continue this practice even to this day.

That article makes my blood boil. It's one giant 'appeal to authority' fallacy. I don't care if someone uses one space or two, it merely annoys me that Paizo forces me to appear as if I'm only using one.
