Appearance:
A tall, muscled woman stands before you wearing heavy armor, leathers, and a dark brown cloak. Long, wavy, blonde hair flows out from beneath her helmet past her shoulders. Her dark eyes peer out from her helmet, shifting this way and that, seemingly looking for some hidden danger. Her lightly tanned white skin is marred by a few scars. She carries a large spiked steel shield on her right arm and bears a variety of weapons. At her waist is a broad shortsword, a small axe, and a utilitarian dagger. Three javelins stick up above her left shoulder in some sort of harness, and the hilt of a large sword protrudes above her right shoulder. She wears a well made pack and seems to be carrying enough things to stay in the wilderness for a few days at least. Here is a reference picture.
Background:
Kala is the great-granddaughter of Valki, a refugee from the ruined Kingdoms of Sarkoris, an area now known as the Worldwound. Valki fled to the Lands of the Linnorm Kings, and settled there, eventually marrying and having children with an Ulfen man. Though each generation their Kellid blood diminishes, the women of Kala's family have held on to the traditions of Sarkoris, merging them with Ulfen tradition. Kala is no different, like her foremothers she is a warrior's warrior in a land where women are rarely warriors. She is quite capable in a fight, or in the wilderness. She can hunt, fight, climb, swim and handle a mount. Kala learned of honor and duty at her mother Ashki's knee, primarily through stories of Iomedae, the Knights of Ozem, and the Crusaders of Mendev. She learned the arts of the sword, axe, shield, and spear from Ashki as well. Upon reaching her majority, Kala entered a few tournaments, seeking to test her skill and show her worth. After nearly winning a melee against a number men larger than her, she was given the epithet Steelheart for her bravery. Afterwards, Kala set out from her family's home in Halgrim to make her own way in the world, seeking to act as a knight errant and help those in need. She most recently spent time providing some minor help, such as guarding supply caravans, to the Crusaders in Mendev, until she received word of her brother Ragnar's death near Sandpoint in Varisia. Kala's just arrived in Sandpoint to find some sort of festival happening and is looking for Daviren Hosk, the man who Ragnar was staying with. Personality:
Kala is honest and forthcoming, her word is her bond. She is stoic and tends not to let her emotions show unless she is overwhelmed. Outwardly Kala seems somewhat cold and calculating, but once she counts you as a friend, she is warm and kind. While she is trained to fight and kill, Kala will only engage in combat when attacked first, when she is defending the life of another, or when attempts at diplomacy have been exhausted. However, she is not above threats and intimidation if it will prevent bloodshed. When fighting begins, however, Kala throws herself into the fray fearlessly. Kala has excelled at almost everything she's attempted and gets extremely frustrated with herself when she fails. She is a devout worshiper of Iomedae and true believer in the virtues of honor, justice, and valor. |
