If you want me to add anything else to those notes, just let me know.
I haven't heard of Chaga. What's the flavor like? I mostly drink green tea and chamomile.
Oh, who am I kidding, 9 times out of 10, my hot drink of choice is coffee. :)
Sir D. Arthraven
|
I haven't.
I drink black tea (generally called English Blend), and fruit flavored tea.
Though i have tried spear mint and green tea.

I'm with Red. Coffee 9 times out of 10.
My wife and I did purchase a tea set from Teavana a couple years ago, though, and we do occasionally brew some fruit blends. I'm also a fan of Darjeeling and dark teas generally. I do herbal teas like mint from time to time, but, like I said, coffee most of the time, so my tea choices don't vary too much.

Also, thanks for the investigation notes, Red. That'll be a huge help!

I guess D. is Golarion's equivalant of a Japanese/Chinese heritage.
The mustache is called a Fu Manchu, but his mannerism is Japanese...who often lack any facial hair, according to a website i looked on regarding mustahces.
I wonder what province he'll be from, i had yet to pick one, as a better outlining of his background.

If you need more information I have Dragon Empires and Inner Sea World Guide. Picking your province is fun, because you can get all sorts of details on the economy and culture that can inform your roleplay.

I need to check if I have a Dragon Empires PDF so I might need to take you on that offer Cup.

Plan on leaving the arcane and getting a future career in detective work, Mr. Peppers? :)

Heh. If you knew me better you'd know I'm not a multiclasser. There's plenty of class versatility in pathfinder to stick to one class for an entire career. Most multiclassing endeavors are just cherry picking abilities... I think the entire world would be a 2nd level paladin tacked on to whatever they really wanted to play.

Detective work is fun. I'm having a blast. Soon though, we'll see bugs and D and Cormac will have blasts.
Hmm
Blaster Corsac
|
I am just the opposite - almost everything I play is multiclassed. Even Blaster here will probably dip brawler or rogue at some point for some flavor.
Sir D. Arthraven
|
I haven't multiclassed on any PFS PC, the only i've ever done, is in an AP.
I will probably dip sorcerer with a PC.
But i'm still doubting whether a X-blooded serpentine/undead, fey/serpentine, or fey/undead would be best for a compulsion focused caster.
GM Red
|
Sounds like we're off to the Orchard. I'll have that up tomorrow morning.
Re: multiclassing, I have never done it in PFS either, mostly because I haven't a clue how to do it effectively and building a single class PC is already daunting enough for me.

Multiclassing a martial character is usually not too awful. At the moment the most common dip in my area for martial characters is a level of Bloodrager -- rage, speed, the ability to trigger wands and get a familiar makes it an almost irresistible dip.
Oracle dips are also very popular. People love that charisma to AC.
There are players in my area who routinely multiclass 5 or more classes on the same character.
Roy the Singing Cowboy has ranks in Animal Speaker Bard, Spellscar Cavalier, Hunter levels and a whole bunch of other oddball things. All he wants is to be a great cowboy on a horse.
Delphix beloved of Kurgess has yet to repeat a class. The character's entire concept is that he is the fourth best wrestler in Taldor, and a priest of Kurgess, God of sport! He wrestles everything he meets, including oozes. He has a herald to announce him everywhere he goes. He gives out autographs, including to his fellow players. He's a hoot!
__
Dipping on a caster is far more complicated. You want more out of it than what you give up. Dipping a sorc level to change your magic is pretty popular, as is dipping an oracle level to get awesome display.
Most of the time though, it's a bad idea. The loss of a spell level can really hurt a caster.

Sir D. Arthraven

Hmm,
I've tinkered a mesmerist.
I agree that dipping in that case could be a pity, but expanding the targets with a lvl of crossblodded sorcerer could benefit, as i won't be in the front.
But fey bumps compulsion magics, which a lot of the mesmerist's enchantment spells benefit from, yet serpentine/undead provide a whole broader variety of targets to work on.

Im only a fan of mc when it is long term. Splashing is too min/max for me and is one of the reasons I didn't play pfs games. I'll be fine just sticking with the full samurai route.
Doom Girl

| 1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Um, 'Sugi, this is a PFS game!
Frankly I see more dips for flavor than I do for crunch. The ones for crunch unfortunately tend to be the same combos over and over again. I almost forgot to mention the swashigator: one level inspired blade swashbuckler, the rest empyrisicist investigator.
I got so tired of seeing that build locally that I went with a much more lame archetype for Doom Girl. She's a mysterious avenger and trades off the swashbuckler's improved crit level for a secret identity and whip proficiency. Not optimal for anything save RP.
On the other hand... Oh, she's wonderful in RP.
Cue thick nasal accent. Think Bronx:
"Hi, I'm Doris from Accounting! Are you guys real field agents? Can I get your autographs?" The lady in the thick frumpy cloak shuffles in. "Ooh, I'm so excited. I love the Pathfinder Society. One moment you're inventorying barrels of Cure Light Wounds wands, the next you're exploring a demon-infested ruin!"
Cue heroic British accent (think Wesley from Princess Bride):
Then the villains show up, the reversible cloak gets flipped, and there is a woman standing tall and charismatic with a rapier and a whip. "Unhand him, you villainous cur!"

Man, the number of posts this game racks up each day sure is something! I hope I can keep up when it's time for Blood Under Absalom :O
That's why I got the dog! So I could keep up and not run my poor little gnome feet off!
You'll be fine, Lady Ladile! If you could keep up with GM Samy's games when they were hot, you'll keep up with this group just fine.

Have a good trip, Blaster! Where are you headed?
I am such a nut case. Still, I love it when the filks just fall in my lap like that.
Hmm
Cup

Filks are geeky parodies, though there are some original music too. Almost all of Weird Al's repertoire can be classified as filk.
Frankly people appreciate my parodies more than my original compositions... probably because they recognize the tune and can sing along.

No problem Blaster, thanks for the heads up!
PaizoCon badges are already being sold! Unfortunately, it would cost me a lot more than $75 to go to Seattle. =\
Cup

Yes, a group of us are going by train. It will be pricey as heck, but I'm looking forward to meeting people that I only know from the boards. I have a ton of people to meet at Paizo Con! I had the good fortune to meet Tonya, Toz and Wei Ji when they came out to conventions in MN, but there are so many people that I want to get to know in real life.
The games are secondary.
Hmm
GM Red

It sounds like a lot of fun. I'd love to go.
But, a flight out there and back would run upwards of a $1k. Ugh..
The company I work for does some business in Vancouver though, so I'm there every now and then. Should my next trip line up with PaizoCon, it'd be much less expensive to fly just across the border. It's unlikely, but one can hope...

Weather's gloomy here today. And Uesugi and I may see some of that white stuff tomorrow morning if the forecast isn't wrong!

I would rather a mass rolling in initiative too. It saves time for everyone. We had snow yesterday here in Minnesota. I'm working today at the library, so I'm online.
I was thrilled to get a chance to use Cup's signature knowledge skill.
___
So... Since this archetype already has skill focus in a knowledge, I am considering picking up a familiar next level. I've been trying to figure out something fun that can be from this area! Monkeys are wonderful, but there aren't many in Isger. I do like talking familiars, but at the moment that's only the raven and thrush... Though we might meet a raven or two soon.
So if you all have thoughts and suggestions as we meet critters around here, let me know.

It's what i do as well.
I have the init rolls - the last ] in campaign info, ready for copy & paste
GM Red

I almost always roll initiative, but I hadn't in previous Red Arm games because the posting speed meant I've never needed to.
If that is what you prefer, it is what I'll do from here on out.
And I also always put that block in my campaign info (see my other tables), but it got removed last time I changed the campaign description. I will add it back.

So tonight I am translating my name into Katakana, and filling out a whole bunch of forms that will go back to Japan as part of my dan test.
I'm also writing my 3rd and final essay for Shodan.
