Hard time playing rude?
Simply insult people at random, if they're different.
(Is looking at GM Red on this)

![]() |

I assume you're referring to my elf and his lack of discretion :)
Yeah, Erlathan was always meant to be a bit of an ass. It gets him in trouble quite a bit. He's lucky most of his adventuring companions are thick skinned.

![]() |

The sound of Gallix's voice cuts through the low hum of noise of the teahouse like a samurai's blade through a simulacra.
This had me laughing for a moment.... So very relevant :)

![]() |

Please let me know Hmm if I go over any lines with Cup. I'm trying to toe the line between nice and only slightly rude but highly dismissive.. while staying true to LG. I'm sure he'll warm up to her eventually... maybe? I have a hard time playing a rude ass of a character... this guy originally was going to be intimidating but I changed my mind after playing a mission or two. His avatar however still shows that side though lol.
No worries! Cup is coming through to me a bit more clearly now that she has someone to push against. This is my first PFS gnome, so I'm playing around with things.
I was originally going to go with Desna's fighting style on her, but they just disallowed that in Additional Resources. I was not expecting that feat would not make the cut. Oh well. So no star knife melee with this gnome, and I just trashed the backstory I had been building in my head of being raised by a human Varisian caravan. Instead, she's been raised by the Poshkettles, a halfling family that runs an Absalom tea shop (named 'The Posh Kettle') in the Ivy district. Why halfling? She's going with an aid another whip build. I've got to help the team out somehow!
Besides, it will be interesting playing around with Unseen Servants with her. I hope she's coming off okay for the rest of the group. I went with a mostly support bard because you have a STRONG team and I didn't want to take anyone's gig. My goal is to make all of you shine.
And to leave raw eggs in Mr. Pepper's shoes if he keeps acting like this.
:D

![]() |

Take someone's gig? Bah I'm just glad to have you along. We work as team and it's always good to have multiple people who overlap. I just can't wait to you and Peppers battle over who knows more about <insert random knowledge roll>?

![]() |

With this group, I notice you just use spoilers for the languages, right? It appears no one else messes with google translate. I'll conform to majority style from now on.
Hmm

![]() |

I do that, but sometimes it's more convenient, when google translate is acting stubborn.

Leaving Barry in was a great idea, Cup. I can NPC-play with you guys now when I'd otherwise have to idly wait until our actual start.

![]() |

I'm also really glad Barry is in attendance. He and Gallix can compare bicep sizes.

GM Hmm |

It is fun... I have to admit that a GM NPC in Risen from the Sands kept me sane through GMing that turkey of a module. They got a mimic to surrender, so I GM NPC'ed Maurice all the way through. It was hilarious playing the role of a sarcastic and intelligent monster who decided that it was very entertaining to provide running commentary on how the PCs killed things.
It allowed me to actually add some RP into what was otherwise nothing but a combat slog.
Hmm

![]() |

BTW, it is fun coming up with different adjectives for 'tall, dark and...'

![]() |

Miserable? :D
Mr. Peppers, Arcanist 2, elf of many adjectives!
Edit: I perhaps incorrectly assumed we were describing Mr. P. Anyway, take no offense to my nickname, Mr. Peppers. :)

![]() |

Is that a third star I'm seeing? Congratulations! :)
I'm pretty sure completing this module will allow me to gain my first star. Woooo!

GM Hmm |

Huzzah!!! We'll all cheer when you do!
Hmm

![]() |

I'm pretty sure completing this module will allow me to gain my first star. Woooo!
Well I guess we'll have to make sure you really earn it then! :P
As far as dark and moody/stormy/etc I take no offense. I do wish I picked an avatar more how I see him now vs how he started in my head. But I'm not one to change so I'll just have to keep up the passive aggressiveness and mix in some more moodiness.
As far as comparing knowledge checks and biceps... I don't plan on jacking up all the knowledges, mostly just taking a rank in each and then focusing on arcana/spellcraft/UMD primarily.

![]() |

![]() |

Congrats on your 3rd Star, Hmm.
Red, I got my first star last year. It feels great!
I use spoilers for language tags, but that's usually because I do PbP while on the road. It's one less page for me to research. Feel free to use Google Translate.
Risen from the Sands is tough. I'm glad I used a level 4 pregen instead of bringing in my level 2 character - the first enemy and the big bad nearly wiped us out. My pregen was stuck trying not to die for the 3 day trip back to town so a cleric could remove my curse.

![]() |

Congrats, Hmm!
One of these days I'm gonna make a foray into the GMing world. Just gotta work up the courage. Haha.
In other news, Gallix may take a rank in Linguistics at lvl 2 just so Uesugi and D (and now Cup maybe) can't keep talking about him behind his back. Haha.

![]() |

You'd need to find someone who's willing to teach a barbarian our refined tongue.
;)
Even in the case, Uesugi and myself might have studied another tongue, and still talk behind your back.

![]() |

Go for it, Gallix. I think you'd make a great GM!
I've been trying to read more fiction for inspiration, mostly. Of course, an RPG geek doesn't just ready any book, he reads Pathfinder Tales. I just finished Queen of Thorns.
The funny thing about Pathfinder Tales is there are actually chronicle sheets for them now. Even more incentive to get reading ;)

![]() |

Aw thanks, Red! I've definitely gotten a lot of inspiration for style from great GMs like you and Hmm, so if/when I get around to trying it out, don't be surprised if you see some familiar GMing tricks.
I do love to read, and I really want to check out the Pathfinder Tales books, but they require money, which is not something I have an abundance of at the moment. Someday, though. :)

GM Hmm |

I've learned from watching other GMs certainly! It can be fun to stealth watch someone you think is good, and figure out what they're doing that you like!
BTW, Gallix, I hope that you're not taking too much inspiration from me as a GM in CC... That is far from my best work. It's hard when you're applying resuscitation to a game that nearly died to shine as a GM. I am doing my best to keep you moving and give you fun, but it's not at my highest level of work. For that I really need a good team of active characters to riff off.
Hmm

![]() |

Just have Miss Cup teach you. Gnomes are easily manipulated.
Cup raises an eyebrow at this and takes notes for later. Really must work on his education. He knows NOTHING of gnome culture. Fortunately, I'm there to help!

![]() |

Hmm, I wouldn't worry too much. You're doing an outstanding job, given the circumstances. Hopefully someday I'll get a chance to see your GMing A-game firsthand.
Gallix would probably actually ask Cup to teach him rather than the Tien boys. Gotta be sneaky about it so they don't know he understands them until it's too late! Haha.

![]() |

Alright, based on our current pace, I think the actual start of the module will end up being this weekend. This is totally fine as I'm loving the interactions you're all having. Cup is fitting right in with the original Red Arm team. :)

![]() |

Aww. I'm glad that she's working out. BTW, thank you for your question, Mr. Peppers. I now understand several things:
1) Why her last name is 'Poshkettle' and not 'Underhall'.
2) Why her family's tea shop is named "The Posh Kettle" and not "Poshkettle's".
3) How a gnome could be adopted by halflings when they have a shorter life span. It's because she was a young teen when her father died.
4) How she can be so gnomish in outlook while being raised by halflings.
5) Why she's so obsessed with the bleaching.
It is suddenly all clear, and the family background that I was struggling with just clicked into place.
Poor Cup!
Hmm

![]() |

Not one of those points answered MY question.... I'm going to assume the answer is in the other thread :)

![]() |

Not yet! You'll get more out her on the topic of Bleaching, but I just suddenly realized that you'd hit a hot button topic.
Hmm

![]() |

Not surprising that such a thing is a delicate topic to gnomes.
Now you've got to cheer her up again, Mr. Peppers.

I'm not quite sure he's at the point yet of feeling the need to cheer up a gnome... But he'll at least avoid calling her Miss Cup for a little bit.

By the way, Blaster, I apologize in advance for when you do pop back in tonight/tomorrow and have umm, 60 posts to read between Gameplay and Discussion? :>

![]() |

Damn I forgot.. I had a good/cheesy zinger to spring on him at the tea shop, guess I'll have to use it somewhere's else.

![]() |

By the way, thank you Mr. Peppers for being a good sport. You're really helping me define this character. I'm enjoying interacting with everyone so far. I cannot wait until we all go bug hunting.
Hmm

Sometimes character interaction forces you to fill out the details you would otherwise miss.

Ha. I do backstories. If I take a trait, I RP it to the hilt.
GM Red, you should know that as I'm finishing up Cup's equipment, I decided to go with a riding dog. That way, I don't slow down the party on long treks, and have some way of carrying the various mundane and alchemical gear that I wanted to pick up. My puppy is going to be a black dog named, "Oolong," that my family bought for me. He won't be a fighter. Just a helpmate.
I did also purchase a tea set for her. It seemed appropriate.
Now most of the time in PFS, it's not possible to convey the backstory, but that's okay. It tends to come out in my RP anyway. You don't have to bore the party for 20 minutes reciting your backstory, but if *you* know who you are and where you came from, it will enrich everything you do and make you memorable.

I've actually found that PbP PFS is the best showcase for backstory and character development. While I agree you don't want to drop a couple pages of yester year every day, a sprinkling of things here and there work well, especially since we're going to be a group for a while. Expanding on traits and skill selections are also a great tool. I'll think of something to go with all my spell casting focused traits and racials to weave into things as we go along. I'm also attempting to have my gear and equipment mesh well with Mr Pepper's. Some equipment makes a lot of practical sense but just doesn't jive with the person.
