A few more questions about 3rd party things you might allow?

would you allow an oracle to use charisma instead of wisdom mod for his spells as mentioned on the FAQ?

FAQ:

Can I use my Charisma modifier for cleric spells and effects that use Wisdom, such as spiritual weapon?

As written, those effects say "Wisdom" (because they were written before the idea of the oracle class as a Charisma-based caster), so an oracle has to use her Wisdom modifier.

However, it is a perfectly reasonable house rule to allow an oracle to use her Charisma modifier (or bonus) for cleric spells that refer to the caster's Wisdom modifier (or bonus).

Oracles Curse:

Merciful [3PP]

Source Oracle's Curse, copyright 2014 by RJ Grady, published by Tripod Machine.

You are bound to offer tender aid to those who are most wounded.

Effect

If a non-enemy character who is adjacent asks you to heal them, or asks you for help and you can tell they have taken damage or drain or suffer from a disease or poison, you must help them on your next tum. If they have a condition or suffer from a poison or disease that you can neutralize or cure with any ability you possess or any spell you can cast, you must do so as your next action. Otherwise, if they have taken any damage, you must cast a spell or use an ability that heals hit points. Also, you cannot perform a coup de grace. You gain the ability to lay on hands, as the paladin ability, using your curse level as your paladin level.

At 5th level, you gain a mercy, as the paladin ability.

At 10th level, you gain a second mercy, and can exchange your first mercy for a different one.

At 15th level, you gain a third mercy, and can exchange one of your existing mercies for a different one.

Bowing out on this one folks, there's a tonne of very cool concepts and despite my Norse obsession I'm not feeling my character.

I've a pending invite to another game, so will leave you brave heroes to write this saga :)

Good luck all.

I'm very interested in this. I've got a concept lying around for a Fey Sorcerer/Overwhelming Soul Pyrokineticist with a bloodline figment familiar, a three-eyed rabbit. He's based around the association of rabbits with dreams, and will probably grab a lot of illusions, divinations, and so on. He is likely touched by some Vanir with a petty interest in him, and not entirely comfortable with the notion (although he knows better than to voice these concerns too loudly, lest his "patron" hear of it).

Finally have backstory done and general build and goals, tips advice and criticism welcome.

Spoiler:

Asta never really knew who her parents were, she uses the surname Ingendotter Ironically. Her first memories were growing up in a small hold where she grew up on the streets, she had an older sister, Ulla and a friend named Alto. She remembers that when she was about 10 she was driven out of town for some reason, looking back she understands that it was probably about her condition, she still doesn't know what happened to Ulla and Alto. She was forced to live alone in the wilderness for a longtime, she didn't really understand what had happened but she desired to become strong so that she could get a home of her own and keep it. She was only 10 and forced to survive in the wilderness so things didn't go well for her, she was emaciated quite severely by the time she had discovered what would be her home for years to come. For on her travels she occasionally would overhear things from travellers and she heard of a disgraced warrior who lived a hermit alone in the mountains to the north, he was disgraced because he used cheap tactics but was said to have never been defeated. The small collection of buildings was haphazardly scattered in a small area, a few seemed to be workhouses while others storage sheds, the biggest was probably the actual house.

Asta hadn't noticed but a man was sitting outside the house, she finally noticed him when he said "This is my property, leave.". He said it sternly but not angerly. He was old and worn but still seemed to be physically fit.

Asta immediately responded ignoring her own surprise at having been noticed "Are you the hermit? who has never been defeated? Teach me!"

He looked sternly at Asta for a moment, the child was obviously weak from hunger, he stood up and approached and stopped a few feet away. Asta approached but as she got a few feet away he lept forward and kicked her. She was stunned and in pain lying in the cold snow from the mountain. "why would anyone want me to train them?" He said.

"because you're strong" Asta managed to mumble out in pain.

"I do not fight honourably, I'm a disgrace and a disaster"

"but you ARE strong, I NEED to be strong"

He kicks her again and asks, "why do you need to be strong?"

"so I can keep a home." That's the last thing she remembered before being kicked again and blacking out.

She awoke sometime later hanging from a rope upside-down tied by the leg. She hurt all over and appeared to have several cuts, she wondered what exactly happened to cause her so much discomfort. "HELP!" she yelled out. She looked around she must have been suspended in the middle of one of the storage sheds, several bags and other supplies appeared to be stored in the room with her. She tried to reach her leg but it was hard to bend up that high, it didn't matter though as she quickly heard footsteps.

The hermit opened the door and then sat down on a chest, "I am Ingolf, and you are very interesting, you will indeed need to be strong" he scratched at his beard and then said plainly "you appear to be tainted by Fenrir." Seeing at how the child didn't react to this. "Fenrir is the god of destruction destined to fight and kill Wodin, the King of the Aesir, in Ragnarok". seeing continued confusion "do you not remember anything? while I was testing you, you transformed into a half-wolf"

Asta seemed to understand this much "what? the last thing I remember is falling unconscious"

Ingolf nodded "I'll train you if you can withstand my training, what is in store for you will be much more difficult than just surviving a few kicks. You'll need it if you're going to keep Fenrir under control."
---------------------
And so I gained a home and a new master, he forced me not only to train my body, but my mind as well teaching me about everything from the gods, to advanced building techniques, to how magic worked and how to fight it, about all the monsters the roamed the world and how to fight them and most of all how to fight. When we sparred it was always full force when I complained he would kick me and explain that the world is not a soft place and will take advantage of every opportunity if you do not take advantage of your own. He also trained me to control the taint of Fenrir, when I started to lose consciousness and transform he forced me to sniff smelling salts, this blasted me into awareness of what I was. Since then I've always retained consciousness while transformed. That didn't stop the urges though, when transformed it was hard for me to not destroy everything around me I even tried to kill Ingolf a few times, I failed each time obviously. However unlocking Fenrir made me more aware of other parts of me, I began to notice I had some sort of magic that let me control things or manipulate things. Ingold explained that Fenrir's father was Loki and that I had inherited a portion of his magic. I rejected Fenrir but Loki seemed more interesting, being hated but needed might just be how she would obtain a home.

I barely had any time to do what normal kids would do or even young growing women. I was constantly forced into study or learning to fight, and when I tried to mimic how my master fought he would brutally punish me and tell me to learn my own kind of fighting. So I did, I learned to channel Fenrir's destructive might into my fighting.

I stayed under his tutelage for 8 years until I was 18, When he kicked me out saying "You need to go learn from the world yourself from now on". That was three years ago, I've been for the last 3 years going around dealing with peoples issues trying to get payed and make a name for myself. I've also been trying to find my old village, I was too young to really know where it was in the world as of yet I have failed to find it, I really want to find out what happened to Ulla and Alto, I'm not even sure I remember what they look like.
------ GOALS -------
IC - find Ulla and Alto
make a place where I can exist as I am and be needed
Help people who persecuted for who they are
OOC
Use permanent transformation talent at level 10 to represent being more Fenrir than Human at that point.
------ BUILD -------
Focus natural attacks for combat, use other spheres to help utility wise but not much that will be used in combat unless long duration buff. Will use a lot of alchemical items and other items to great effect in combat to control battlefield.

Is pre-game crafting a thing? I have begun to realize that Hallrun could make good use of a hat of disguise. Between being a murder-elf and being covered head to toe in a psychoactive skin I reckon his welcomes arent exactly warm. But I really dont wanna give up his efficient quiver. Its so...efficient...

Wondering if Half-Giants are allowed. Thinking of a half giant Goliath Druid/Slayer or fighter

Liberty's Edge

.

Still spots open? Very interested in the concept of this one.

Was thinking something along the lines of a priest of Hodr (finished watching The Almighty Johnsons a few months ago, and Ty was pretty much my favorite character), though not sure how practical that will be with the whole "Have to rely on senses other than sight underground" thing, unless Darkvision is considered another sense.

May make one half an Aether Kineticist so I can nab Touchsight later, though for a Kineticist Water (Cold) might fit better. Not a fan of the Energy based Kinetic Blasts though, they kinda get the shaft in every way possible.

I'm thinking an Oracle, Clouded Vision Curse and Winter Mystery, and then an Aether Kineticist. May not be able to see well, but my god-guided darts will strike true what I can.

Half-Giants are allowed, that's what my character submission is.

Cool Gimmie a bit and I'll get my half giant ready!

So what languages are available beign someone who is reasonably going to take a lot of linguistics.

I think Nordic lands used to consider Runes as a special language? That might be worth looking into.

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

I'm also curious about languages... Fell has picked up a fair number of those in his 76 years (and he's something of an expert on runes)

Been bingewatching Vikings. It's gooood. And a great way to get into the feel of things.

I thought that show was super inaccurate, though?

Important information: About 30-50% of Viking warriors were probably women, according to archaeology

it's more accurate than like everything else involving viking on TV and shows off actual historical events. obviously it's dramatized for TV.

thunderbeard wrote:

Ehhhhhh, maybe not so much "warriors" as "we're going to dangerous places and people who don't have swords still die by them". Understand a lot of those women may have been the mates of the men going around with the intention of settlement rather than raiding, selling, and coming home in time for the spring planting.

Having them armed and capable of defending themselves is a matter of pragmatism.

I just see it as Game of Thrones without dragons. With a lot of norse customs and aestetics thrown in. The latter being nice for preparing for the campaign. Also I love the cast.

hope this doesn't turn out like the other threads with this kind of character creation rules. :/ no activity since thursday.

I'm late to throw my hat in this game, lots of players interested and some already made. It would have been fun, will go back to watch Vikings series last season just to not feel bad.

While I do agree that I really hope it doesn't fold like so many others, he posted in this thread yesterday on his DM alias. I think everybody's allowed a day off once in a while. :p

He actually posted on Friday in the afternoon-ish hours (depending on your timezone I suppose). Might be a touch early to be throwing in the towel ;P

Anyways, Mimesyne here with my application finally.

I've settled on a Paladin with both the Temple Champion and Holy Guide archetypes combined with an Oracle with the Metal mystery and the Powerless Prophecy curse. I'm trying to loosely tie her to the Norns (specifically Valkyries), although at this point she's got no clue she's being tugged around by the strings of fate. Her Paladin side hasn't really come to be fully developed yet (something I plan for her to be able to grow into as a character) and for now she's just adhering to her own ideals rather than being a champion of any specific gods.

If I'm plucked out to participate in the campaign, I'd like the DM's help formulating the prophecy from my Oracle's curse. I want it to be a relevant and defining part of her character, not just a mechanical annoyance.

For possible mythic paths, I'd be looking into Champion, or perhaps Marshal, but I'm flexible and depending on party preference and roles. I'd gladly look at both the Guardian and Heirophant paths as well. Any of them would work well for my concept.

a lot of people have different posting patterns on the weekend... sadly, some of these high power recruitments do fall apart when the GMs realize what they've gotten themselves into, but it seems pretty premature to write this GM off already.

Ok got his sheet linked for crunch, still need to do backstory unfortunately. All I have is iPad currently and safari pages keep reloading everytime I try to switch tabs so it took forever on crunch. But anyway.

not throwing in the towel, just there's been a few threads with 24 pb gestalt where the GM just dissapeared after a few days. And yes for my timezone across all aliases he posted at noon thursday with no activity since. I don't know if it's dumb luck or actual malicious intent but the GMs account really isn't that old, definitely created after the end of the previous thread, but I simply feel people should be aware of this in case this does end up like the others so they're not as surprised or disappointed. good news is I didn't see nearly as much posting in non-pbp threads on the accounts for GMs of the other threads, so for the most part I still believe he's genuine at this point, if that means anything to anyone.

Yeah I feel these same worries, as such I'm having a little trouble in making myself commit to writing a backstory up for my submission.

I don't want to hijack or even sidetrack this thread but I've been fooling around a little bit with converting RotRL into an epic adventure that starts at 11th (most likely gestalt) with 1 mythic tier and runs to at least 21st level with probably around 6 tiers... Would anyone here be interested in something like that (if they don't get picked here, or have tons of time for PbPs)?

@nate lange: Put up an interest thread detailing what all you're doing/looking for. I'd be willing to give it a shot.

That sounds awesome! Just a little whole back I was starting up a new game for my RL game, and I wanted very badly to do an adventure path, but my group hated the idea of starting over at level 1 again. I looked around for advice on how to adapt it to a later starting point, like level 6-7, but couldn't find anything. I'd definitely be up for a game like that, and if I did not make the cut on your game, I'd still be very interested in seeing your work, we're you willing to share it, so that I could pitch the idea to my table.

would definitely be interested, throw me a link to any interest thread or campaign recruit thread if you do it (probably best to just post it here so all interested can join), I REALLLLLLYY just want to be able to play a game as a player ;-; and high level would be much more interesting.

@Nate Lange: Well, You know I'm interested.

I'm still working on the stats for my character, Should have them up tonight or tomorrow.

@nate: outline a proposal, my friend! I'm sure people (like me included) would probably like a higher level thing going on :)

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

I'm not ready for an actual recruitment post yet- I still have a ways to go before the first book is ready for play, I just figured I'd throw it out there while we were waiting to hear from the GM and see if people thought it was worth continuing to work on... it sounds like the answer is a resounding yes :)

The last such game had thousand posts in less than a week ;). I'm probably interested as well.

Backstory:

Cold.

Pain.

That was all she felt as she lay naked in the snow as a storm began to move in. Her breath came out in clouds of icy steam as white was slowly stained red. There was laughter in the thunder, and voices. Voices calling for someone. Her?

She felt heavy and numb. Her vision blurred and narrowed. She remembered hearing once that death was like this, but like some many other thoughts that she had since she found herself lying on the ground, it faded too quickly for her to focus on it. Her thoughts went quiet. There were voices again, closer she thought. Were they calling for her?

She tried to keep her eyes open, to move, to left her head, but she couldn't. Too much of her strength had been stolen by her injuries and the cold. All she could do was watch as everything faded into darkness.

===

It was warm. She couldn't remember the last time she'd felt warm. Her pain was dulled, and something, bandages, perhaps, was wrapped around her wounds. She opened her eyes and found herself in small room light only by a crackling fire.

"Morning, deary, You're a lucky one, y'know? They found you cold as ice and bleedin' mor'n well-fed pig just slaughtered," an old woman said when she noticed that she was awake. Rest, Rest was what she needed. Everything else could wait.

It'd only be a little while, and then she could put things right.

===

Fives years. It had been five years since that day she found herself in the snow and bleeding. The wind was bitter, as were her thoughts. She was no closer to putting things right than when she'd woken up in the old healer's cottage. Her ragged cloak whipped about in the wind as she trudged through the snow. The town was just ahead. A group of bandits and other nithlings had begun preying on the travelers and traders on the road south, and the Jarl had put a bounty on their heads. She had three of them by their braids in one hand.

"Well, well, well. Lookit this! The Runt returns!"

A chorus of Laughter rose up from the gates as she approached. She said nothing. Nothing she could say. She was clanless, she served no Jarl, and she was small, as much as it galled her. They let her through. To not do so would be to offer an insult, and while the nickname of Runt could be passed off as a joke, mostly, refusing hospitality would likely have them all before the Jarl, who would not be pleased with them.

She sighed. Five years and she still had trouble figuring these people out. At least they paid the promised bounties without a bother. That thought lifted the gloom from behind her eyes a bit. A hot bath and a good meal awaited her this night, and that thought Carried her all the way to the guard house.

"Ah, three o' 'em bastards, eh? Well, just give me yer name an' we'll get ye yer gold," the man out front said.

"Torfrun," she told him.

Appearance and Personality:

Torfrun is still recovering form the ordeal that left her a bloodied, battered mess outside of a village whose name was long forgotten. She can be moody at times, but thankfully, she’s been opening up and being more cheerful. She will not, however, talk about what happened that night five years ago, and wise men learn to drop the subject. She’s picked up stories from her travels, and has become quite good at spinning her collection of tales to entertain the children that inevitably gather around her when she’s in town, not that she minds the attention.

She has silver hair in a long braid, pale skin, and brilliant arctic blue eyes. She’s pretty, though most have to look close to see that since her clothing is that of a wild man and she often appears very disheveled. She appears to be in her early twenties at most and despite her line of work has very, very few scars.

I'm going to have to withdraw the concept I was working on, as I was accepted into another game. (This is the major reason I didn't fully submit a character yet, despite having the crunch done.)

Good luck everyone!

Hey, does anybody know if he's allowing the Mythic Hero's Handbook by Legendary Games for our Mythic stuff? I love the Mythic Class rules detailed in it.

I'd like to submit here Abbo Lyrio :) Feel free to send me any feedback.

Background, crunch, etc. all in his profile.

Okay, thinking Skald/Cavalier, as a re-teller of epics and laws. Any word on how fleshed out our character proposals should be?

Well... with several questions yet up in the air, a lot of concepts are waiting on him, so decidedly less than if he'd checked in. :)

Pathfinder Lost Omens Subscriber

it's a good thing i like making characters so much or else i'd be much worse off with how things are looking.

One of the players here knows the GM and talks with them more directly, no? In cases like this, I think the best thing to do is talk to that player and politely ask if they have any kind of update for us.

Personally, I suspect the GM is still working on getting the internet fixed - and possibly juggling some things at work - so patience is best. ^^

i thought the GM with the busted internet was the one from the fallen angels recruitment? which seems even more stalled out

yeah this guy's account was almost made specifically to do this campaign, with few prior posts, so i also don't know anything about any internet trouble.

Best thing to do is hold off heavy investment in the character until we hear of him. Unless you think to use the character, if not the build sometime in the future.
