Lord Foul II wrote:

Abarent aegis is great at grappling (and getting lots of attacks in a given round)

Tentacles are 1 point customizations that can be taken up to four times. The first one grants the grab ability (+4 CMB and a free grapple check if you hit with any of your tentacle attacks) and +2 CMB for all later attacks

Brawler and monk are good at grappling and have plenty of feats
Maneuver master monk is notable for how it capitalizes on the CMB you'd be pumping to do the other maneuvers and be crazy good at them. This archetype is almost mandatory if you just want to dip
The half giant psionic race is treated as large size if it's beneficial, so that's another way to pump your CMB a bit

I've been looking at Aegis. Alway my go-to when psionics is allowed. But then mostly at Trailblazer for the utility. As I plan to give up trapfinding for Shadow walker for a crit recharging darkness spell-like. I will consider Abberant a bit more.

Maneuver master monk looks sweet, but specifically locks down your cmb of bab to your monk lvl. So you can't multiclass much, or even prestige. Or you will lose a lot of reliability.
But certainly to consider. Thanks.

edit: The more i've been considering this, the more the character is leaning towards Rogue//Aegis all the way and just go whole hog on the natural attacks. Gonna need to invest heavily into some sort of illusion magic item to mask my horrendous form though. Because damn son, tentacles, claws, stingers, lions and tigers. Oh my!

If you want grapple, brawler would sound like your feat tree.

yeah, currently torn between brawler, monk, fighter and psychic warrior. And thats' not even counting dips for utility.

Further, I'm soft-planning around some fun (Mythic) Options.

Obviously, I need to improve my grapple mod and cmd.
But here are some teasers for what I am trying to make work:

Mythic: Knot Expert (Ex):

Source PPC:MO

You can tie knots in rope with a flick of your wrist, and can do so from the far end of the rope. You can tie a knot in any rope you hold, including turning it into a lasso, as a swift action. You can also use a whip, lasso, spiked chain, or similar weapon to constrict an opponent.

In order to do so, you must make a successful attack with the rope-like weapon, after which you can, as a swift action, attempt a grapple combat maneuver against that creature, adding your tier to your combat maneuver check. If you are successful, the creature is considered to be grappled, though you are not, and you can deal constrict damage to the creature (as the universal monster ability) equal to the amount of damage you could normally deal with the weapon used.

Which makes me wanna play around with a double chained kama or something.

Blinding Sneak Attack (Combat):

When you strike from the cover of darkness, you inject foes with a fraction of your foul magic.

Prerequisites: Base attack bonus +5, darkness spell-like ability, sneak attack class feature, tiefling.

Benefit: When you successfully deal sneak attack damage to a foe while you are within an area of magical darkness, you temporarily blind your opponent for 1 round. A successful Fortitude save (DC 10 + the amount of sneak attack damage dealt) negates this effect.

Strangler (Combat):

Throttling the life out of enemies is second nature to you.

Prerequisite: Dex 13, sneak attack +1d6, Improved Grapple, Improved Unarmed Strike.

Benefit: Whenever you successfully maintain a grapple and choose to deal damage, you can spend a swift action to deal your sneak attack damage to the creature you are grappling.

Snapping Turtle Clutch (Combat):

Your unarmed style allows you to turn your opponent’s attack into an opportunity.

Prerequisite: Snapping Turtle Style, Improved Grapple, Improved Unarmed Strike, base attack bonus +3 or monk level 3rd.

Benefit: While you are using the Snapping Turtle Style feat, the shield bonus the style grants to your AC applies to your CMD and touch AC. Whenever an opponent misses you with a melee attack while you are using the Snapping Turtle Style feat, you can use an immediate action to attempt a grapple combat maneuver against that opponent, but with a –2 penalty.

Chokehold (Combat):

While grappling, you can cut off an opponent’s air and blood supply.

Prerequisites: Improved Grapple, Improved Unarmed Strike, base attack bonus +6 or monk level 5th.

Benefit: While you have an opponent up to one size category larger than you grappled, you can attempt a grapple combat maneuver with a –5 penalty on the check. If you succeed, you have pinned your opponent and hold the opponent in a chokehold. When you maintain the grapple, you also maintain the chokehold. A creature in a chokehold cannot breathe or speak, and thus cannot cast spells that have a verbal component. An opponent you have in a chokehold has to hold his breath or begin suffocating. Any creature that does not breathe, is immune to bleed damage, or is immune to critical hits is immune to the effects of your chokehold. When the grapple is ended, so is the chokehold.

Lot of swift actions there, but there are ways to bring the need down.

Adjusting the character. Gonna make her a Mythic Grappler.
Just need to puzzle out ways for a Rogue//Something to get 2000 feats.

Is Unchained Tetori (archetype) Monk an option?

With the feat tax thingy in place. Could I get TWF or other fitting feat instead of free Weapon finesse on my Unchained Rogue at lvl 1?

Also, the OP said we are using pretty much any paizo pathfinder material. Does that incluse combat stamina?
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/other-rules/stamina-and-combat-tricks -optional-rules/
Because if so, I have something I have been dying to try out.

Interested in an Unchained Rogue/Aegis, Thiefling. Moth follower (neat deity), ire or boon both sound interesting. Will cook something up shortly. Make a mythweaver first, then convert to forum standards after that if thats alright.

Immediately reminded me of Vampire Hunter D.

Sure something like that can be built within GURPS. Currently getting a bit worried about the lack of replies from the OP though.

So...can one play a superpowered mage using GURPS Powers and GURPS Magic?

I have a thought or two. Well, I did 12 or so years ago. I'm sure I can make it work with modern conviences.

Yeah...been having a rough time motivating myself to fill out the alias I made. A lot is still the copy paste from another one.
The mythweaver sheet is done, but the alias isn't. Might be before the choice, but probably not. Though practical, paizo.com isn't exactly aesthetically pleasing or inspiring.

You can only take Path Dabbling once. You could however just take the Dual Path Mythic feat.

QUESTION. Will stats and abilities from one gestalt class slot allow us to take levels in prestige classes in the other class slot? Example:

Rogue 11
Wizard 4 / Arcane Trickster 7

This isn't what I want to make, per se, but clarification would be awesome before further planning. I've seen GMs simply limit characters to one prestige class to avoid bloat. What are your thoughts? Thanks!

Technically there are no sides/class-slots. You use 2 class-levels to make a custom gestalt level. So you should. As your gestalt level applies for the prereqs. Keeping track of the 2 classes by assigning sides was originally just an easy way of bookkeeping. It just became a systemic houserule.

Would Mythic items be available for purchase? Some are pretty cool, like the everlasting potion.

Regarding Mythic pets: Do familiars and pet rocks qualify for the templates?

Sounds like a Trickster to me.

Yeah, I guess I should start copy pasta-ing Hallrúns backstory and such from his Mythweavers to his alias.

He's a full elf btw. The image is just what he usually looks like. Having disguise up at all times and not having discussed the status of elves in social perception with the GM and fellow players. A conversation for a possible later date though.

You can submit multiple characters. Though, at most 1 will be selected. To prevent it becoming just 1 person and their 6 characters talking to themselves. Fun as that might seem.

Don't recall explicit information regarding seafaring, but it is at least heavily implied, and makes a good background either way.

Good spot to vent though. A little catharsis every now and then is good for the soul. Sure, it messes with the flow of the thread and can be seen as a bit of a downer. But most here seem veterans, the dm included. And I for one understand the sentiment, though I hope I won't be pushed quite so far myself.

So it's all quite understandable/forgivable. And you have been quite amicable in the aftermath. So no worries there.

ON THREAD: I'm not sure what Mythic Path I'll be taking for Hallrún. It fully depends on party composition. Probably dual paths. But which, no idea. Especially now that the arcane path is said to work for psionics.

50gp, 1d4 rounds for a +2 circumstance. Known as pathfinder chronicles or blue books.

Goblin Island came about quite organically. Was fun to watch.
Looking at the current list of applicants makes me think there is already far too much elf blood in the pool. So while a fun idea, I won't finish my elf. Instead I'll be going with a dwarf Cleric5//Unchained Monk4/Hunter1. Called Bolrim the Undying. Running around nigh naked, covered in broken off arrows and spears.

The bow needs to be +1 before you can add adaptive. 3k total. Probably better to hold off on that investment and just get a str rating X comp bow. Won't fully utilize temporary buffs. But it works alright enough.
It's what I'm doing for one.

Alternatively, if the buffs are substantial, you could 2 bows. 1 for your base-stats. And one for hulk-mode.

As I recall it's a campaign with a bit of a timecrunch
Invading army and all. So taking a week off to spend 100gp training with a master figter to retrain a feat doesn't seem viable.

Browsing through the witch spell-list for my witch-doctor I came across Thorny Entangement. And now all I wanna do is play Zyra. Elf treesinger//witch using deadly accuracy for thrown stakes to simulate her autoattacks. Because reasons.

Speaking of things recently nerfed into the ground: Can I be a Con-based Scarred Witch-Doctor? I have some fun ideas.

I'm not really feeling my shot-gun toting beguiler any more, the flood of gunslayers might have spoilt the broth.

Monkeygod wrote:

Still around, busy, busy, crazy busy last several days.

Did I mention busy? lol

My submission will be a Lore Shaman/Druid, with a raven familiar with the Sage archetype and a wolf companion.

Will his name be Odin Wotanson of the tribe of Wotaning Odins? Does he have a tall blonde son unable to grasp sarcasm? Or is that a little on the nose? :D

Came across THIS. And I figured someone might be interested in a Trve Metal Viking poster.

@GMF: I am wanting to use this religion-trait. Originally for Sarenrae, the Goddess of Dawn. Can I use it in conjunction with a Norse God instead? And if so, which would fit best according to you?

A Trench Fighter//Mesmerist might be interesting. Think I'll whip one up.

Selection is a long ways off. I reckon something came up and checking the thread/internet didn't seem a priority.

Best thing to do is hold off heavy investment in the character until we hear of him. Unless you think to use the character, if not the build sometime in the future.

I shall withdraw my interest in favor of the adventures on Goblin Island.
Because that looks like too much fun to interfere with in any way.
Though I might come up with a Blue if inspiration strikes.

Choon wrote:
Can you switch up classes within a gestalt? So, say I wanted to mix skald with a dip of bloodrager. Could I be a Hydro2/Skald1/BloodRage1?

Normally yes, but the OP states the preference for 2 classes only.

Is there something keeping us on the island once we are there? I am absolutely giddy at the prospect of playing my Goliath knock-off Noble Gargoyle. But I just realized he could just fly off. Which seems non-conductive.

Man. I LOVED harpoons in 3.5
It was the only ranged slow available to fighter-types. It was glorious. Actual cc on a barbarian. Ya know, other than croaking someone.

Wait.....ANY race??!!!

Dibs on Gargoyle.

So...would not posting a backstory or alignment be better for party interplay? Seems it would. Backstory is a good tell on player skill and value though.

It's a lvl 6 level-cap. With experience after that point granting feats instead. Special feat(chains) exist to increase cl and grant higher spell slots and the like.

I'm withdrawing. Not getting my questions answered for days, with the GM posting meanwhile; does not bode well for the actual game.

Will be building an Unchained Monk//Hunter if thats ok. Dwarf. Earth/Air.

One thing you can always do is create the Alias, but then post it here by linking to it, as opposed to posting with the Alias. As long you don't use the alias to post, you can always delete it if it turns out you are not selected.

That is a very useful piece of information. Thanks.

aasimar will be allowed, I completely forgot to put that splurge in there. I will only accept 1 or, at the very most, 2 however, due to the fact that they are few and far between, and will often be received negatively.

Can I get a call on the Armiger class? I'm kinda stuck in char-gen limbo currently.

I just see it as Game of Thrones without dragons. With a lot of norse customs and aestetics thrown in. The latter being nice for preparing for the campaign. Also I love the cast.

Been bingewatching Vikings. It's gooood. And a great way to get into the feel of things.

Is pre-game crafting a thing? I have begun to realize that Hallrun could make good use of a hat of disguise. Between being a murder-elf and being covered head to toe in a psychoactive skin I reckon his welcomes arent exactly warm. But I really dont wanna give up his efficient quiver. Its so...efficient...

How is that show? Heard vague things about it being good. Considered watching it a while now. Wanted to start tonight due to this campaign. Should I?

Requesting use of theArmiger Class. I have an idea for a protect-the-carry build instead.

You could go carpender instead. Shipwright is nice, but for making things like impromptu dog-sleds and such carpenter might be more useful overall. And I reckon carpenters would be involved in shipbuilding. Just not in any leadership capacity.

@DMF: What time of year does the story start? I have a fairly nomadic character, who moves with the seasons. So I'd need to know how much I need to shoehorn him in a coastal town this time of year. Or if it fits right in.

Tjostålf wrote:

This is the Alias/ Name I'll be going forward with

He's a Jotun Paragon/ Unchained Tetori Monk

Still very much a work in progress but he's turning out to be a real back-breaker!

The Unchained Monk isn't backward compatible with archetypes

Which makes sense.

Yeah, you are right. Kevin Smith portrayed Loki so much better in Dogma. Marvel should be ashamed.

Well, maybe thats why Thor refers to Loki's magic in the movie as "tricks". He knew exactly what he was doing and simply deigned magic the work of harlots.

Shieldmaiden idea: Halfling Warlord(because buffing allies saves passively) making expert use of Combat Reflexes into Bodyguard. With the helpful(halfling) trait and Mythic Aid, using her deft reflexes to shield nearby allies.

You can even go the underused dex route with a light shield as Unchained Rogue finesse focus. Maybe go full Halfling Opportunist and use your enemies to help you aid your allies.

Might I suggest going the Dwarven Chain-flail route? You can use it one handed. And it's a reach weapon. Combining it with the shieldbash route that gives free bull rushes is lots of combo fun.

Works for me. Now, I am intending him to be a somewhat complex character. Both in build and fluff. Which tie together, but might seem chaotic at first. I hope that in turn is fine for you.

For instance, he would be LE or N, depending on how strict one views alignment. This stemming from his people being slave-taking pragmatists. He'd be kind and sympathic when that luxury is available, but would hamstring his own mother without flinching if it means he would survive the unslaught of a monster that outmoves them both.

And I would start with a fighter and inquisitor dip. To represent various parts of his backstory and character, but also because I try to have all my characters able to conjure water.

If allowed he would be an Egoist. Metamorph powers focused. Using psionics mainly for things like repairing stat and hp dmg, or growing large whilst covered in ectoplasm, which I am hoping to refluff so he looks more like the main protagonist from Attack on Titan when using his ability to grow or get a climb speed etc.

As for what it means to the character, that would remain mostly the same: The ability to shape form to stave off the crushing weight of inevitable inertia by bending bone and sinew with the sheer strength of will to survive.

Not sure how to refluff his pet rock though.
