The Avalon Chronicles

Game Master lynora

This is a high level rules light game set in a school for magical kids, kinda a mash-up of Soul Eater, Harry Potter, and X-Men. :)

My mom swears by it, but my allergies aren't that bad in the first place. Mostly just to dust. It can be a little expensive but one bottle will last quite a while. :)

Shadow Lodge

Um dust is not an allergen it's an irritant...

I am allergic to household dust and pet dander. Not everyone is and it is therefore an allergy. :)
We can move all this stuff to discussion so we don't clog it up here. :)

Alright. Since full stats aren't a must-have for teachers, I went ahead and linked a partial character sheet that has the bare basics of importance - skills (spellcraft, knowledges, and such, the musts for a magic teacher obviously), levels, and core ability stats. Still not done obviously - she has no gear, her feats aren't all picked, no spells, etc.; all the stuff that, unless the rare incident occurs where she'll be expected to fight, probably won't be needed - but I think the basic necessities, what little there are, are there. The link is in her profile.

Anything else I need, or is she ready for the look-over and thumbs-up/down?

Oh, cool, someone (other than Gareth) who can talk to Vriskra. :)

Looks good. Don't really need more for a teacher character. We're at the beginning of a weekend in-game and it may be quite a while before we get to Monday. Days can take a long time to play through. Do you prefer to go with her as newly arriving over the weekend or was there all along and just hadn't had any screen time yet?

You really don't need to fuss about equipment unless there's a particular sword you want for her or something. Also, you will almost certainly want to bump up those stats like a lot.

Melody can talk to Vriskra... when renkai isn't teleporting her away when she is trying to talk to people.

I figure since you said the school year had already begun she's been here and just hasn't showed up yet. =)

so can grim, he actually knows the language, albiet not all that well

And here I wasn't sure at first if it was the language or the Aura of Fear that was the obstacle =)

Ace can also talk to Vriskra, in fact, I doubt there's many he can't talk to.

Jeez, and I thought the small handful more languages I need to pick for Karish (between Int and Linguistics ranks, I didn't finish last night) was going to be an issue.

Granted, thanks to Telepathy she can speak to people even if they don't know a language she does.

Ehos has a Perfect Voice and so can understand and always make himself understood through verbal communication. He could understand anyone who talks to him.

Welcome to. The staff. Hope to have an rp with you soon.

Guys if you're just gonna talk about stuff you can move it to discussion. :)

KK. Soon as Lyn gives the go-ahead for us newbies to jump in then, I presume that'll be when IC Monday hits =)

Karish is cleared, and you can post in the discussion. There's just not much for her to do during the weekend. But you're free to wander and interact.

I did have one more question about Karish, though. Is she from off-world? Her background would certainly suggest so.

More than likely. If there's any kind of planar passage she could have used in such veins as Sigil or The World Serpent Inn (the Player Info thing mentioned there used to be some kind of anti-planar entry shield that's no longer functional, so things can get in/out now) those would be most likely how she came - the setting she was brought from had steam-age and gunpowder-age tech but no spacecraft. (Heck, she could have found a job posting at the WSI, heh.)

I would not put it past the school to put up postings about job openings at the World Serpent Inn....I think you'd have a hard time finding a portal to the place otherwise, but the school is very determined to do its job. Ryo wasn't joking when he said the school itself is alive. Although not many people know about this. :)

Works for me!

Vriskra wasn't being delusional? Wow. She knows more then i do.

Just because you're delusional doesn't mean they aren't out to get you.

Wait, that's paranoid.

I would actually like to tie this dude into the World Serpent Inn. My concept is a long-standing soldier in the Baatorian Foreign Legion who fought in the Blood War for decades. I see him as a armorer and a warrior who specializes in taking on large foes. I am also thinking some fiendish grafts which he was given as triage in battles.

Sure, sounds good. Should make for a very imposing heavy blades teacher. He'll be intimidating students in no time. :)

Hello Master Steelfather

waves at every one using R as D

So, a quick question: Do we just start writing up our intros? What is the proper form for dropping into the narrative?

You show up at the school, and since you are a teacher, you report to the headmaster

Or, you know, you get back from time off and let me have what passes for peace and quite. >.>

hmmmmm.....

you want peace and quiet....

Stop that. You know I don't lie about my methods. :p

Alright so for the first week of the term the previous instructor for the light blades class disappeared. So that one has to be a new hire. You, however, are teaching heavy blades class so you can decide if you want to have been there all along and just haven't been on-screen or if you want to be arriving a few days late for the new term. The latter would require talking to Ryo while the former allows you to just put up a post whenever. In-game it's currently Friday night so no classes to teach for a little bit.

Ryo it is. =)

Ugh, I am absolutely hitting a wall on a backstory writeup.

What do you have so far? I'm sure we could deluge you with suggestions. :)

So far just the concept of a rather trickstery duelist. Which honestly is very much leaning toward a multiple choice style of past.

Would you like her to be from Agartha or from off world? Knowing what culture to place her in will go a long ways towards fleshing out her background.

If from Agartha perhaps she could be from the city-state of Lemnos, a bustling port with a lively black market and competing thieves guilds.

Note to current players, I'm just making this s*!~ up as I go. This place hasn't been mentioned before. I can flesh it out more if needed.

Lemnos works.

Okay, well then, Lemnos offers a few different options. Think renaissance Venice. Canals, corruption, intrigue. the perfect place for duelists. She could be either the child of a wealthy family, an ex-bodyguard, a member of a thieves guild that lost in the ever shifting power struggles of the city, a smuggler bringing in items for the black market, or any number of other things. Just throwing out ideas.

A couple things of note: as a native Agarthian she would have grown up with the idea that all dragons are evil. This idea is slowly losing traction, but there may be some moments of awkwardness depending on how closely she holds to this idea. Also, as mentioned in the campaign info Agartha was an enclosed world until a few months ago. They're still getting used to sky. I find it's generally a good idea to remind folks who are just coming in about things that would be a big deal to natives of the planet. :)

I both approve of your expression of emotions, Lynora, and creative efforts.

Hat tip!

Making s+#! up on the fly is the mark of a true maestro GM

my dog is an awsome GM she makes s+%# up all the time for me to find...

Ah! But the magic is lost if you realize that the s$$+ is s&#%, and not some carefully crafted story arc! That is the true riddle of steel, young padawan.

Example: Lynora, would you be surprised to know that almost nothing of your sojourn to Hanalindali in the Silver Rose game was ever planned out? Or that I usually made the BBEGs up (stat wise) right before the fight?

It's how Agartha was originally created!

Knowing how good you are at improvising this doesn't actually surprise me, but nothing about that story arc or the villains seemed slapped together and it all fit seamlessly into the greater story. No one would be able to tell that you didn't spend hours planning everything out. :)

That was actually a bit of a breakthrough for me about GMing, learning that it was (or at least could be) improv rather than scripted. I'm better at improv. :)
