Arthur blinks, startled at the sudden request and grabs a pencil, and frowns at it, clearly having something on his mind but doesn't say anything he then takes the paper and grabs a clip board and hesitates "don't get your hopes up, I'm far from the best artists, I only really do anything with pencil," he then shakes his head and begins to do as asked, starting first with her face, drawing the shape of her head, then two gently curving lines quartering the shape, he draws eyes and a mouth with just the hint of a grin and spends several minutes on her hair putting much detail in it, he then outlines her body and the background, focusing very intently on the paper, biting his lower lip in concentration, he puts a few lines to make her clothing before returning to her face adding shade to the areas around her cheeks adding contours to her smile he returns to working on the clothes adding lines were the clothes natural wrinkles occurred.
the graphite breaks and he goes to sharpen it, putting down the half finished drawing onto the bedside table, giving you your first look.

Mel tries not to look but can't contain herself.

a glance down she smiles at the progress. it's true that picture wasn't the best but it wasn't a quality picture she wanted.

As Arthur continues, he gets the feeling that he could have drawn a stick figure and Mel would have liked it.

In response, the young monk's nanosuit rapidly shifts once again, this time to encapsulate the last uncovered portion of his body...

His features now hidden and unreadable behind this new change, Fei is (thankfully) able to just keep his emotions in check. His talk with sabumnim Sunwake had helped more than either could know.

He stays motionless, listening. He has to find out why Lumos and Esperanza have allied themselves and what they are doing in this place.

Arthur finishes sharpening the pencil and grabs the paper, seeing her look at the paper he blushes lightly, somewhat embarrassed to have her look before it's done.
He moves on to her arms and legs and has trouble making them. he goes over and erases them several times, to the point where the paper is lightly damaged by this action. as a result the arms look like awkward tubes afixed to her shoulders, not properly shaded and skinnier than they should be, but still recognizable as arms. he sighs and rubs his temples before going back to work. he goes back to the body adding details to her clothing and adding a few shade lines to one side of her face and putting the ribbons and other ornamentation into her hair. finally he smoothes out some of the hard lines into sharp gradiants, before gathering his courage and showing it to you.

Mel looks at the drawing trying hard to look like the cynical art critic. olding the paper this way then turning it that way, sqinting a bit to get a better view.

she then glances at Arthur...looking a bit nervous probably.

then she can't hold it in any longer, and she starts to giggle.

Arthur, hehehe, its....its.... great! she gives him a hug.

I'll keep it in my journal so I'll always remember you by this drawing.

::Lang, how far are we from the temple?::

actually the flight is not too long, its just that I didn't want to move ahead time wise, so I was just holding off.

:: there is the landing are ahead, within the hour.::

lang points to a building built on a high ledge on the side of a mountain. off to the right is a large flat area.

as the group approaches. there is a deep chasm separating the building from the flat area and a bridge connects the two sides.

how big is Ephebe?

the checking the data, No need to worry, secondary radiation is almost non-existent. about the only way you can get radiated from Tybs is if you were kissing him, and even that is minimal.

She gestures to Arthur wondering if he would like to kiss Tybs.

Ok, Tybs, I know you are having some sickness, but the good news is that it will pass and you should have no lasting effects. Well, at least this generation, not sure on any kids. but I can sort of quiet down the symptoms so you will recover faster, but I can't really take it all away. that will have to happen naturally.

as she goes to help tybs, she stops. look, Tybs, I'm really sorry about this, I never realized this was going to happen. I never really intended for the radiation to effect you the way it did.

"Hey now, it's alright. We got to help Vai. I'll take a little while being sick if it helps someone else be well. I'm glad you let me help you help her."
He smiles at her, reassuringly.

With magical healing, the low dose that it was, and the rate Tybs grows, when he could have kids, any traces of the radiation will be long gone.

not sure in what way magic would affect it, but the way radiation affects your offspring doesn't work that way in relation to time, as far as aging, if your cells work the way a cockroach's work then maybe but then if that were the case the level of radiation you received would have had no effect beyond the heat resulting as a side effect, otherwise time doesn't effect it this way, in most ways it's cumulative ... I could give a 3 page rant on this but it's rather late, and my brain's trying to shut down
He grins at Mel "unless you're offering a closer look, I guess I can be satisfied"
At tybalt's insistence on wings "I could probably build some wings, that'd probably be fun, they'd be made of metal," hmm he seems lost in thought, seeming to have missed the comment about "type" and zones out for the rest of what is said.

Once Sara and Midori are in good hands. Lang leaps off the Owl and flies to Ephebe. He then evelops her in a sphere of air. keeping her aloft and able to continue without expending to much energy. he thn flies as fast as possible bringing Ephebe to the safety of the temple.

Alright, I've posted a quick (to read at least) guide to Agartha on the Discussion thread. That should answer any questions you have about the setting, but if it doesn't feel free to ask. And I'll add to the document until it actually does contain everything you need to know about the setting. :)

Shadow Lodge

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Just thought I'd bring this thread out of the archives to see if there are any new people who'd like to join.

Since we are currently in the middle of an invasion from creatures of the Lower Planes, most(if not all) of the students and non-combatant teachers are in shelters.

After the invasion is over, it is assumed that most of our current teachers will quit, so anyone wanting to run the part-time posting gig that is an educator is welcome to it.

Yes, for some reason there's a high turnover for staff at this school. I can't imagine why so many people run away screaming in horror from a job teaching super-powered kids... ;P

I'm not really interested in being a teacher, but I'd like a chance at the Entrance Exam to be a student. :P

I'm interested in being a Warforged-Like Engineer, trying to control his use his intellect to destroy.

He'd have the standard Warforged outlook, for the most part, with a seemingly-insane bent from time to time. While not an extensive user of the Death ray, Every once in a while, he just gets that urge. Since coming to the Academy, however, he has gotten much better about hurting those that don't deserve it in a moral sense, but he still gets angry and isn't afraid to get in a scrap.

um student or teacher doesn't matter.

i was thinking a expert and powerful gunslinger i was thinking he has a troubled past as he accidentally destroyed a settlement when he was battling his evil younger brother. that it for a concept

The Exchange

I'm not sure if you know what the Warforged are, but they're basically already Iron Men, or, if you will, Adamantine Men in my case. In their original campaign setting [Eberron], they were forged in giant, magical artifacts, which either bound a soul or created a soul to inhabit their metal and wood body structure.

Through Science, I would create for myself not only the obligatory Wondrous Items, but also fantastical devices, such as those that can double the size of their creator, or [if I so choose] one who has been given authorization. They can create temporary magic Armor, weapons, etc. through the use of these devices, and in doing so, accomplish their goals.

They also enhance themselves with mechanical implements, in the case of warforged Artificers, building directly onto their existing anatomy. All either make a mechanical hand which increases their strength or manual dexterity, or a set of Clockwork Armor, enhancing their often-frail forms to much more capable levels. These do not come without a cost, however, as the use of these objects is physically demanding.

Some Engineers put forth their efforts into alternate methods of travel, putting together mechanical sets of wings, or augmenting their Battle Fists into a high-power Digging Implement.

Over the course of their life, Engineers often find that almost anything can be accomplished through a generous application of Science, whether for good or evil, in the pursuit of Law or chaos.

Spoiler:
Also, they have lazors called Death Rays. Pew Pew Pew.

Okay, well first I would recommend reading through the campaign info and get some baseline knowledge of the world. And then we can work on fine tuning the concept from there. Think about what race you'd like to play and what type of region you'd like your guy (or gal) to be from.

Warforged I know. Engineers I am a little less familiar with. I was hoping for more details about this character in specific. I already have a construct engineer type in play and I want to make sure we don't end up with too much overlap. I'm more looking for details on personality and specific abilities at this point. Sorry, I was totally murky about that at first. One of these days I will learn not to post while distracted...okay, the chances of that are not high, but I can hope. :)

Ah. I have much less of that information ready to spout off at a moments notice.

Give me some time, like a day, and I'll have a much more refined character concept for you.

mathpro18 wrote:

Well, reading the campaign info is a great place to start. There's a level cap for students of 16, but teachers can be higher level. Or not. Sometimes expertise is more important than power level. Teachers can follow a more casual posting schedule than students since they usually interact with the student storylines a little more tangentially. Which doesn't mean that you can't be more involved, just that it's easy to step back for a bit when you need to.

What sort of teacher were you thinking of?

Well it seems that the school specializes in studients with superior magical powers from what I've gleemed from the campaign info(though I've only had a quick glance). I was thinking of being a teacher that emphisises that not every problem has a magical solution. That would require me to be a more mele based character. I'm thinking either fighter(old war general type) or rogue(reformed theif). I'm thinking the general would be around level 12-14 while the rogue would be more around level 10.

I'm open for criticism if you have any of course since these are just starting ideas.

Math you would be my favorite teacher ever if you went the old war general type teacher. You were thinking more rough talking get stuff done type or the type that people just listen to because you can tell they know what they are talking about?

That's fine.

Spoiler:
So you know what I'm comparing to, this is the guy I was referring to who's already in play. I think there is plenty of room for both of you in what amounts to a very broad concept. But I don't want either of you to feel like the other one is stealing your cool, so that's why I'm being more careful with this than usual.

Well, we already have a teacher for swordwork...I think the rogue is probably something we could use more, but I'm sure we can find a place for the general if that's what you prefer...or you can play both. Although I recommend introducing one at a time.

The only thing I'll say is that the level for the rogue there is way too low. With students in the 14-16 level range for the most part, they would run rough-shod over a level 10 teacher.

The Exchange

Absolutely no problem. I've had the same problem when trying to DM home games. Two people come up with similar concepts, and I have to make sure that no Toe-stepping is going on.

Lynora:
Solivala seems to be much more logically minded than I would play my engineer. In regards to the Engineer Class, a good way to think of them would be like an Alchemist from the APG. In any case, The Yet-to-be-named Warforged Engineer would be much more hands-on. With a focus on melee, he'd be formidable in a fight, but with decent dex and intelligence as well, [Int definitely lower than Solivala's, but Dex possibly higher.] he'd be a decent ranged combatant as well, using his own, home-made laser rifle.

In regards to attitude, while he would play to his strengths as a construct, he would long to be a "Fleshy". Being so out of place in fleshy society, he never really understood any of the common emotions. He got a good grip on wrath/anger, and envy as well, as those are fairly simple to explain/understand. Where he has trouble are love, happiness, and their many nuances. Unable to understand many of these concepts, even after trying so hard, he has found solace in the cold, factual world of science that he came from.

Hmm I might just do both. for the general type I'm thinking he's going to specialize in either two handed weapons(great weapons) or axes to give a little variety. And I'll bump up the rogues level. I'll have characters up probably tomorrow or Tuesday at the latest.

Are you guys still looking for more? This seems extremely interesting.

FireclawDrake wrote:

This is a pretty unique game situation in that there is no cap on how many can play. So if you want to play you're welcome here. Come up with a concept and we'll see if it fits. :)

I'd say we are always Looking for more people.

After the current situation and some others coming up, I'm thinking we should have him teach a remedial combat course, subtitled how to avoid a massacre. Might help ease the outcry from angry parents....not to mention the school board. *shudder* ;P

Awesome. I was thinking some sort of half-dragon who had been used as a labrat by her decidedly more evil green dragon father, and rescued and taken away by the school.

Hey now Lynora we are doing a good job about massacring the other side.

Ummm....dragons are tricky....I can make this work in a couple of ways from the rescuing standpoint....might require some serious illusions while at school. I'd suggest you read the campaign info before seriously committing to this. If you still want to do it then we can work out the details and find a way to make it happen. Just know it comes with some extra roleplaying challenges.

Mrdarknlight wrote:

This is true. But you know the school board only looks at the losses on our side not the other guys. All the want to know is why the other guys weren't massacred sooner. ;)

I sorta skimmed the campaign reading (at work atm), but the basic idea was that she's a bit of a tortued soul (or literally tortured), who acquired her magic through illicit means, but not by her choice. (Was infused during lab tests or something)

Yeah, you really need to read the background info for this one. The whole Dragon Empire thing plus the whole dragons are eeeevil belief held by most Agarthians are particularly relevant here. No worries if you don't have time right at the moment. But I'd rather you knew what you were getting into before we went forward with this concept.

Also, Mrdarknlight, I'm not sure if this:

Mrdarknlight wrote:

Alright, now I'm even more determined to roll with this kinda backstory (I read the campaign info).

Basically, my character would be a girl who was kidnapped, or put up as a sacrifice to a local deity (secretly a green dragon). The dragon subjected her to a battery of tests and experiments, the result of which infused her with his own sorcerous powers (she'll be a sorcerer with the green dragon bloodline). So she's a scared teenager with massive power.

She's well aware that if the source of her powers is ever discovered, everyone would either cast her out, or simply kill her on the spot. As such, she'd be very shy. In addition, she might suffer from a form of paranoia or even psychosis as a result of her treatment at the hands of the green dragon (won't go into detail here as I'm not sure how mature of a game this is).
