Bi0, you still have a week before Rob closes roleplaying, so don't give up yet! I SHAN'T LET YOU! Anyways.. you still have time!
Also, woo 401st post!
Now that I've gotten my own campaign moved along, I'm going to work me butt off on getting Logem finished up so I can begin posting in the gameplay thread, now that Rob has reviewed what I've gotten so far.
You guy's'll be seeing me at the funeral either today or tomorrow! :D
Maven Brewbane
Internet went out early before I was ready to move, so circumstances kept me offline a whole day and change. IM BACK, B****ES! So I figured I'd throw a little curveball of a doozy of a post to celebrate my GLORIOUS RETURN! And hint at my backstory/goals/story feat, etc. Gotta add some fuel to the fire, yeah?
Dr. Logem, Ph.Dwarf
And Dr. Logem's background is DONE! Pending any issues Rob may have with it, of course.
Time to get caught up in the insanity that has been going on in the gameplay thread and start posting! Then I need to make some adjustments to the crunch of Dr. Logem, as I've come up with new ideas during this time.
Mineko Yamauchi
Greetings! Celeador here ready to submit my concept for your Ruins of Pathfinder: The Quest for Arcadia
First a little bit about me. I am currently sitting at a little over 3,000 posts. I am a consistent poster. I also currently run two very role play heavy campaigns on the forums:
Zeitgeist: The Gears of Revolution
Hearts of Darkness: Way of the Wicked
I also take a lot of pride in my characters. I put quite a bit of time into each one, trying to make them unique and interesting. I focus less on min/maxing and more on creating a balanced character with excellent roleplay hooks. Some examples include:
Teladon Azuth
Elsir Tel'Ran
John Rawkins
Ali Al'Zahrid
I tell you this because I want you to understand what type of player I am. I post less then some, but I try to ensure that each post is flavorful and detailed. I enjoy roleplay opportunities and player interaction. I would rather post once every two days with a detailed post then three or four times during the same period with just a sentence or two.
I also enjoy taking common tropes and flipping them around or slanting them to something different. As I have said before, my personal belief is that most of the common races have not changed much since Tolkeen introduced a lot of the base concepts during Lord of the Rings. I don't feel that is interesting. I think it’s a stale rehash over and over.
BACKGROUND:
That is why I am happy to present Mineko Yamauchi the "Summit Child of the White Mountain Peaks" and Heir-Apparent Empress of the Yamauchi clan. The idea behind the Yamauchi clan assumes that during the dwarven quest of the sky in –4987 A.R. not all of the dwarven clans reached Avistan. Some reached other continents via the Darklands, including Tian Xia. Consider for a moment each of the great works of the asian world. The Forbidden City, The Great Wall, Banaue Rice Terraces. Each is a marvel of engineering. There are comparative concepts in Tian Xia. Who would have built them? The Yamauchi Clan.
First settling in the Koyin Mountains, the Yamauchi's whose original clan name was "The White Mountain" Clan, slowly over thousands of years began to blend dwarven culture with the prominent cultures of Tian. Honor, Respect, Devotion, all of these traits were common in both cultures. It was natural that there would be a blending when such similarities between likeminded cultures already existed.
And so the Yamauchi's created their stronghold on the slopes of Mount Yogan in Minkai, living above the surface and acting as architects, sword smiths and craftsmen to the people of Tian. Tragedy however stuck the Yamauchi clan recently with the rise of the Jade Regent in Minkai.
According to the Jade Regent AP:
Because the hero's fail to defeat the Jade Regent, Minkai entered into a new dark age. With no legitimate heirs left to claim it, the Jade Throne accepted Takahiro as the ruler of Minkai, and the Jade Regent became the Jade Emperor. The perversion of Shizuru’s divine mandate to rule corrupts the Jade Throne, and Takahiro used the throne’s power to spread evil throughout the land and Minkai became the garden of excess and depravity that Anamurumon and the Five Storms had sought to create: a blight on the lands of Tian Xia. Oni and other monstrous creatures ran freely throughout the empire, and the common people of Tian Xia cowered in fear and terror, as they prayed for an end to their suffering.
With the Jade Regent having gained control of the Jade Throne, he became the recognized leader of Minkai and assumed the mantle of Jade Emperor. As one of his first conquests he led the Five Storms and a massive army of Oni to attack the independent dwarves of the Yamauchi clan. No fool, the Emperor knew that the Himeji, the ancestral dwarven citadel built atop the Mount Yogan if not taken quickly could have been a continual thorn in his side for decades to come. And so, Emperor Takahiro with thousands of oni at his beck and call lead his armies to assault the Yamauchi clan's final redoubt.
Fearing that the clan and its thousands of years of history would be lost, the Granite Emperor Hideo Yamauchi directed his people to flee into the same tunnels that they had first created during his people’s quest for the sky. Knowing of no other place that might be safe for his people he directed his daughter, Mineko Yamauchi to take their people and travel via ancient dwarven works to the continent of Avistan, in the hope that his people might find succor within the court of the Five Kings. Tragically, the journey within the Darklands was nearly as dangerous as the battle that was underway on the surface. Many of the Yamauchi vassals fell along the way. Food became scarce and there was not enough healing for all that needed it. The old and weak were the first to die of starvation and many of the Princess Yamauchi's protectors died as well to the predation of the darkened tunnels.
It was near the end of the trip, that Komainu-Kun first appeared to Princess Yamauchi. Komainu was a kami spirit had been a protector to the royal family since shortly after the Yamauchi clan settled on the surface of Minaki. Resembling a Foo-Lion, Komainu had been bonded to each Granite Emperor of the Yamauchi upon their assumption as the head of the royal bloodline. It was then that Mineko knew the truth. Her father, mother and brothers must be dead. There would be no other reason that Komainu would have appear before her. It was a terrible time for Mineko. She felt alone and helpless, all of her remaining people looked to her for support in their time of need and she did not know of what else to do except for to follow her father’s final wish; To see his people protected.
Eventually Heir-Empress Mineko Yamauchi completed the journey to Avistan with less than five hundred of her people remaining. Reaching Highhold, the seat of her people in the west, Mineko, proud and regal sought an audience with High King Borogrim the Hale. It was a shocking experience for the young leader. In place of plum wine was ale, stone runes replaced silk calligraphy, and there were no courtiers or grace. Everything was hard as stone rather than elegant like water. The gods were different too. Still there were similarities between the two peoples however faint. Honor, respect, devotion, ancestor worship time had not erased these traits.
It was during this time that the High King first spoke of Halsiig Halfhammer's expedition led by Vigar Skuldafn. He spoke of it as an opportunity for an Empress in exile for her people. Sadly he said while shaking his head that Avistan was no better off than Minkai. He also feared for his people as Minkeo's father had.
The High-King feared that he was living in the end of times. He spoke of the the fallen runelord Karzoug the Claimer arising and reclaiming the nation of Varisia as his own. He spoke of armies of giants, not unlike the oni from Mineko's homeland, ravaging the nation of Varisia. He said that the Runelord was locked in a struggle for power by the combined efforts of Queen Ileosa of Korvosa and the resurrected ancient blue wyrm Kazavon. And as Avistan began to catch its breath, the world shuddered from the unexpected impact of a meteor slamming into what was once the elven nation of Kyonin, who was now little more than a fiery wasteland ruled over by the demon lord Treerazer. He spoke of Gallowspire and of the return of the Whispering Tyrant Tar-Baphon who had somehow found freedom from his centuries old prison. He spoke of Ustalav as a land where the living wished they were the dead. Calamity after calamity he spoke of; whole cities disappearing in a single night, nations in revolt, creatures locked away from the dawn of time returning to savage the world. What the Yamauchi clan had experienced was no different than what was happening across the world.
It was the end.
Yet there was still hope. The High King told Empress Yamauchi of the expedition. The High King spoke of a final stronghold for the combined dwarven people. He made no promises, not even for his own people, but it was a chance, and one that he extended to Yamauchi. Together, they might be able to bring salvation to at least a shadows shadow of their peoples.
PERSONALITY:
Proud, bordering on arrogant, Mineko Yamauchi displays hauty exterior while internally she is full of doubts about her ability to lead her people successfully. Having come of age in the Dragon Empires, Mineko cannot abide challenges to her dignity, authority, or honor. Yet, in truth is also a natural-born leader who was trained from birth to eventually assume the reigns of leadership for her people. Meeting with a woman like Mineko would be a memorable experience. She is focused and makes it a point of honor to show all due respect, yet she also has quirks.
For instance, Mineko does not address others. She speaks through others who then speak for her. She frequently uses the message cantrip to speak with Komainu, who then speaks her words through him. While some might find it rude, to Mineko rank, structure and etiquette was instilled in her from a young age. Also Mineko does not drink ale or mead. That is a drink for commoners. She prefers sake, or plum wine and in more formal ceremonies will drink tea. On the topic of food Mineko is also accompanied by her Itame, Tokuzo Akiyama who is her royal food taster.
APPEARANCE:
Small, even by dwarven standard Mineko stands a diminutive three feet eight inches high. Thin, graceful and poised with ivory white skin and long, flowing jet black hair, the young Granite Empress ensures that she maintains a perfect appearance, if for no other reason than to ensure that she is a reminder to her people that not all hope has fled. During the nightmare journey from Minkai though the Darklands and into Highhold much of Mineko's finery and jewelry was lost as the caravan was attacked over and over by the denizens of the darkened realm. However thanks to her sleeves of many garments Mineko is able to ensure that she appears in an ever changing sets kimono that are often depicted with snow topped mountains, bars of wind and falling cherry blossoms.
Of note is the fact that the Granite Empress is always accompanied by her celestial protector Komainu-Kun. Broad and majestic, Komainu has been the ancestral guardian to each Granite Emperor or Empress since the clans formation following their settlement in Minkai. Resembling a massive marble statue of a lion with golden veins curled hair and massive claws Komainu never leaves Mineko's side.

You know what would be awesome then, Dwunder?
This guy, but as a dwarf. A Dwarven Samurai riding a friggin' rhino.

You know, Isoldda, with the Throw Anything feat, you can throw barrels at people. I've seen it used as a tactic in a certain AP.. one could also assume that you could use it as a melee weapon with the Catch Offguard feat. Imagine using a barrel as a weapon on a regular basis.
A +1 Returning Adamantine Barrel. :3
(Just read how your dwarf hauls a barrel around in the gameplay thread.. I still have a long way to go before I'm caught up.)
Isoldda Ironbloom
Thought about it, but then decided I didn't want to go that route. I was thinking Catch Offguard and a beer stein as a weapon. But it's not gonna do as much damage as my unarmed attacks and I can't flurry with it.
As for throwing a barrel, I aint no donkey kong. If the barrel has beer in it I don't want to throw it, if the barrel is empty I want to fill it with beer, not break it :P

Heh makes sense! I definitely need to make an NPC Awakened Gorilla with Throw Anything someday.. will be hilarious.
And I think there is a monk archetype that lets you flurry with improvised weapons.. not sure.

Woo! Welcome aboard Celeador! I'll get around to reading your background once I'm done catching up with 6 pages of gameplay thread.. :P
*Edit* actually I'll read it first, as it seems awesome!
Just a quick comment: Its Highhelm, not Highhold. But still! Awesome
Glad you liked it. Lucent has a cool setting and I felt like it would have been a shame not to play off it when there are so many cool parallels between dwarven and Tian Xia. Once I decided that I wanted to go that route, the next step was how to play off the normal brashness of a typical dwarf, so I choose someone who for lack of a better word is "dainty" and "diplomatic". The foo-lion made sense since they were spiritual protectors of the Emperor.

at first i thought there were katanas in the rhino's mouth.

I think he's just really hard to understand even for a Dwarf. He just as q very thick Dwarven accent and yea I kinda figured you were all speaking in common to make things easier as then everyone understands each other. :-P
Typical of my luck haha! Creating an accent that isn't needed.
@Magnus - I swear I posted to you. Must have been eaten, but regardless, I now have something to reply to. Will try to get a response up asap but away all day. Only got a few things to finish up. :-)

I love me dwarves, and I love me samurai. My main profile's handle is actually from an L5R character.
I too am a fan of L5R. I though about going a bit of a crab-clan esq route, but decided against it. I still have oriental adventures sitting on my shelf and I think this will be a fun concept to play. I made a few followers for Mineko play off of, and the Celestial Foo-Lion + Empress combo should be interesting. I want to try to work in some styling similar to the Daughter of the Nine Moons as well.

Okay so after sleeping and a small shift at work I get home to read :
Gameplay : 19 Posts
Recruitment : 30 Posts
Celeador : That is an amazing background and I am curious to see how it will all come together in the gameplay thread. My hat is off to you, I wish I could have come up with something even a quarter as impressive as that!
Maven Brewbane
Hooooleeeeee crap. Way to make the current cast feel inadequate, man. That is NOT a ten minute background by any stretch of the imagination. I think we have a new finalist in the running, and way to snare yourself in on the main plotline from the getgo, yo. Need to find a way to weave myself in the main threads of destiny before time's up...
THERE CAN BE ONLY EIGHT!!!
Faelar Braegen
Well I definitely feel like I won't be picked now. Especially with Celeador's back-story and Dr Logem's introduction! Have to try and fill out my back-story a bit more.
Maven, great way to try and break up the fight :P You even have three men around you now, trying to make sure that you are okay. What more could a girl want? :P
Maven Brewbane
Weeell, wasn't trying to break up a fight specifically, but it worked out that way rather well, didn't it? I am, however, kind of wishing I'd waited for Mister CELEADOR's show-stopping background and his sure-to-be equally jaw-dropping introduction, because upon reading his story, I immediately had new ideas about how that would have gone. Oh well. Still time, I suppose.

So, I see all these long, novel esque posts that both make me jealous and saddened by my short winded ones, and I feel I need to explain. 95% of my posts are from either my phone or iPad, and I just do not have the Will, Fortitude, or Reflex (hammer thumbs) to type such long posts on them. So, I tend to post frequent, shorter length posts instead. Just for the record to any who may be curious.

You know, guys, if my math is correct,, by level 16, when imbibing my Mutagen and an extract of Ant Haul, I'll have a maximum-heavy load of 67,200 lbs - or nearly 34 tons. Behind him, he'll be able to drag 168 tons.
Granted, that is if my math is correct, and I'm adding the size multiplier and ant haul multiplier correctly. And if the Muleback Cords stack with Ant Haul! ...Can anyone say the Hulk? :3 (Note, my carrying capacity will be equal to a large creature with a strength of 44, but my actual strength will be a bit lower than that, only 36.)
Anyhoo.. time to post some more!
Also, Dolgrin, your posts are excellent, if short. I mainly wanted my intro to be long and 'novelesque'. I won't always be able to post like that.
Faelar Braegen
Agreed, something tells me that Dwunderbran is probably crying with joy right now, Dr Logem crying in pain, Talon looking for whoever threw the tankard and Daelric ... Well Daelric is regretting come up to speak to Dwunderbran and he has just gotten himself into the middle of a fight he did not want to happen. All because he wanted him to apologise to the women.
Dwunderbran, I take my hat off to you for managing to get your brawl, even while held up by the belts.
