Profile

Appearance

Ranging two or three inches over most other Dwarves this white haired and pale skinned dwarf looks like he might already be half in the grave. He bears prominently on a chain about his neck a silver flask in the shape of the symbol of Kols. He is dressed in black and purple robes over a shinning sliver breastplate. His sunken eyes dart about as he looks around with a somber haunted look perpetually upon his face. Slung across his back is a repeating crossbow of fine quality and over it a shield. Whilst at his waist hangs a lump of iron rough forged into the general shape war hammer. A dagger is belted opposite it.

Personality
Somber even for a dwarf he opens to very few people and even then only deep in the influence of strong drink. He seeks to protect those around him as if every danger they face is life threatening. And perhaps even stranger as if every hurt they suffer is his fault. He is haunted by the loss of his kin and clan. He will never forget what caused thier loss. He is never without a word of warning for those going into the deeps.

History

Born to Bjorn Harathgar Thane of the Skybreaker clan first lairds of sky. Who owed loyality to no one but Jarl Skuldafn. His clan was all those years ago the first in Five Kings Mountian to find Sky funnily they would find their doom in the deeps they left so long ago. Magnus was afforded many of the best opportunities as a young dwarf but was obsessed with the Gladdringgar for it brought much honor to the clan, to his family, and most of all to himself. His favourite of the Gladdringgar games was the deep dive. Where others would dive to the sides or diagonally. He would dive deep and often going miles beyond others marks and there and only when he had seen another mark for at least a day would he make his mark. He would always bring back a piece of stone from there and carve it into a petroglyph sphere for his collection. Soon there was no where left but the deep reaches tunnels that gave way to caverns that had never been explored even when they were first opened.
For weeks he traveled deeper and deeper first ten miles then fifty then one hundred and fifty. Finally three and a half long weeks into his deepest dive he saw it. The place he named the cavern of night. It was dark as far as the eye could see and yet in the roof of the vault were pinpricks of light almost like stars. But there in the center was the place he knew he had to mark. A pillar a mile tall of pale glowing stone. The darkness was cast back from it except in a few places where it pooled like water.
He made his way to it and began to climb it there halfway up the took two days to carve his mark so large it could be seen from where he entered the cavern so no one looking upon it could fail to see Magnus was here first. He took his sample there from the glowing pillar and upon breaking it free the unthinkable happened.
His rope snapped and he fell. Into those strange pools of shadow. Which turned out to be not shadow but Shadow. He had delved so deep he had found one of the places where the shadow plane touches ours. And not just any part of Shadow but Deep Shadow the darkest of that midnight realm. There he lay for days as if lost to death the very color seeping out of him lost to Shadow.
But then he heard a voice he called to it for help but it laughed at him. "I am not here to help you morsel you are here to help me. I shall mark you and send you but from this day I will steal your joy and that of those around you. And one by one shall I take them here to devour. Then when the time is right I shall come through you to your world and devour it. Do not think to escape me by killong yourself that will just free me early. We wouldn't want that I wish to feed on your sorrows and those comming to your people before I suck the marrow from your worlds bones."
He felt as if something was ripped from him and a chill he had never known entered him colder even than Shadow. From then he was never warm again.
After he was Sundered he was cast again into darkness. The next thing he knew a deeps patrol of his people had found him. Three days later he was home safe. Three days after that the patrol that found him was found frozen to a man inside their barracks. A week after that his sister was found ripped to pieces by claws not five hundred feet from her home. A year after his eldest brother disappeared on patrol. His patrol came back never remembering that he wnet with them. Dozens more followed his once great clan shrinking over the decades to a hand full of dwarves. Then his father died and the leadership of a broken clan fell upon him.
During that time he sought help from the priests they said he wasn't possessed or cursed as they could tell but a bit of his soul was missing. A toll of the deeps they said. Not even dwarves were ment to delve that deep, if only they knew.
He heard its laughing haunting each time it stole a clan member from him. So he studied and learned to find and fight its minions. But for each one he killed it seemed to have a dozen more. Always its laughter mocked him. He had to find a way to freedom.
Perhaps if he swore himself to the gods he thought. So he swore himself to the service of the Oathkeeper to guard the word of his people here and in the afterlife. It laughed as he made the Oath and trained as an Inquisitor. It told him he was already forsworn that it would have him after death instead of his gods.
So he has studied and fought and trained and still he knows not what this thing is only that it has consumed his clan and now haunts the wider reaches of Five Kings Mount. He must get away no one believes him when he tries to explain. They just shake their heads and assume he must be maddened by the fall of his clan. Shadows killing and taking people but not undead who has heard of such a thing?
He make a few friends during his training and service as an Oathkeeper. One of them was a young Daelric Morieth. He had been sent to collect the head miner of a small hold for judgement as the man had broken some oath about where he would and would not delve. Sadly this simple oath would be punished hard. The lesser miners under his directions broke into a new cavern unleashing a horde upon the hold. Magnus fought hard but there were to many until Daelric took up his pick and began smashing the goblins skulls one by one. The other miners were inspired and took up their picks as well. Soon the goblins were fleeing. Magnus took up his hammer and smote the gold fevered head miner and sent him to Kols judgement right there. He lead the miners to another hold and left them there for safety. Daelric he took back to the priests and told them the tale the beardling was to modest to admit too. They took him in for training.
Now he seeks to leave the Mount and find allies who will believe him and help him foght off this Terror of Shadow he has awoken.
