Description:
Angrin is rather slender for a dwarf, his arms about as thick as a human's (albeit a rather muscular human), and his body not quite the stocky norm for dwarvenkind. He wears his red beard in tangled mourning at the moment, and his deep brown eyes are too weary for one so young. The dwarf keeps his rapier close to his side, and will always squint in bright light. To many, it is clear that he comes from the deepest depths of the Sky King Mountains, within Varrok's Deep. His constant alertness and the tension in his body say as much, to dwarves, at least. He wears finely crafted leather armor, studded with tiny metal studs shaped like gemstones, at nearly all times, almost as if to defy those who would dare question his dwarfishness. Backstory:
Angrin was born 59 years ago in Varrok's Deep, the son of Agrak and Harla Thronebearer, the morale officers (brewers) there at the time. Varrok's Deep was constantly under siege by a variety of enemies from the Darklands, sometimes drow, sometimes aberrations, sometimes even duergar (though those were rarest). Angrin grew up in a world of battle, where anything could and would be taken from you if you let down your guard. Even as a beardling, Angrin was never as tough or as muscled as his elder brothers were, but he made up for it with his cleverness and crafting skills. Learning about running a brewery and making drinks from a very early age, he quickly developed a knack for it. However, as Varrok's Deep already had two fine brewers (his parents), Angrin was pressured to become the apprentice of one of the other dwarves, the trapsmith Naggok Grimsbane, whose daughter had died in a drow assault fifteen years earlier.
Thus, at the age of 20, Angrin was sent over to Naggok's workshop, where he would live for the next dozen or so years learning the trade, as it were, of making traps. Naggok, ever careful, also showed Angrin how to disable the traps of others, or use the traps of a third party to end the threats his enemies posed to Varrok's Deep. Taking to it like a dwarf to ale, Angrin quickly established himself as a talented trapsmith, working together with Naggok on numerous projects. When his training was mostly complete, at the age of 50, he was sent down into the Darklands, to seek out his family-name. It was there that he first met Orian Sailarn, of House Sailarn. The drow necromancer came upon the young dwarf when he was battling a pair of chokers, just about to be overwhelmed. Orian, sensing an opportunity, burned the aberrations down. Angrin, who should have known to simply slay the dark elf then and there, was instead surprised when the drow introduced himself in Undercommon, saying he was a renegade, and that he hoped the dwarf would spare him, at least this once. Angrin, somewhat bemused, responded that as long as the drow swear never to attack Varrok's Deep, he would not harm him. Orian did so, and the dwarf let him live, a foolish mistake. Angrin returned to his task, seeking out his family's secret name. After several days, he found it. After praying and meditating in the secret area, he turned to leave, only to find a small horde of kobolds. It was here that the tactics Naggok taught him came into play, as he used the traps surrounding the sanctum to devastate their ranks before slaying their leader from the shadows and commanding them to flee in Undercommon. Naturally, the kobolds had been slaves sent by Orain to follow the dwarf, in the hopes that he would lead the wizard to treasures that only dwarves could find. Orian, largely uncaring, kept a careful magical eye on Angrin, waiting to see whether he could be of any use. Angrin, meanwhile, returned to Varrok's Deep, where he told of the kobolds. Immediately, as they already had a trapsmith, he was assigned to going and finding treasures that were known to be lost, but that had numerous lethal traps surrounding them. For the next 9 years, Angrin went about doing just that, inadvertently foiling most, if not all, of Orian's plots, and occasionally meeting the drow himself, in his innocent guise, to talk with him. The drow became increasingly annoyed by Angrin's exploits using traps, but the final straw was six months ago, when he used a devious "death room" to utterly massacre the drow party that had followed him to a very rare relic of ancient times. Orian was punished most severely by the matriarch of his House, and for what, a dwarf? How dare he? Orian took his most faithful servants, armed them well with magical weapons and armor, and led them to Varrok's Deep. Having watched Angrin set and reset traps for nearly nine long years, he was able to get through with minimal losses, and struck a fierce blow. Angrin was there, and saw Orian slay his parents, his brothers, and his master, then reanimate them to attack him. Outraged and terrified, he was nearly next, until the warriors finally managed to beat the drow back. Orian gave the dwarf a mocking grin, and teleported away. It was shortly after this attack that Varrok's Deep received the news that Hraggir Skuldafn was dead, sending the community into yet deeper mourning, as the master of coin had always been good to the people of the Deep, ensuring they had plenty of funding and support when they needed them most.
Personality:
Angrin is currently in turmoil. All the people he has considered precious in his life are dead, and he is not fully aware of what he wants to do. He is generally a friendly sort, though, and doesn't really let it show (stiff upper lip and all that), and often enjoys testing his brews on fellow dwarves. One thing that really ticks him off, though, is the idea that because he doesn't swing an axe or a hammer, he isn't as dwarvish as the other dwarves, and to mention it as a "pansy weapon" is a sure way to get his hackles up. He utterly despises drow, especially those who follow Orlian. He's a little ambivalent about the surface elves from Kyonin that fled their homeland once the meteor crashed, finding it difficult to trust them, even as he is aware that they need the dwarves' help. Nevertheless, he is curious about the upper world, having never seen the sky before, save in pictures, and would love to go exploring the deeps of another land... Though not too deep. You wouldn't like what's down there. Thanks to recent events, he has acquired a fear of the undead, primarily the rotting, very dead looking ones. He also is somewhat bemused by the surface dwarves' carelessness with their odors and their sometimes odd ways, and is often forced to shrug helplessly at the wonders of what goes on on the surface, a place he never thought he'd need to be too concerned about. Nevertheless, he likes them. They're his people, after all. And without the support of the rest of the Five Kings Mountains' dwarven population, the Deep would be a lot worse off, something the trapsmith learned from his father, who had needed to occasionally import the ingredients for the brews he made from the Sky Holds. In particular Hraggir Skuldafn, the master of coin, was generous and kept the Deep afloat in times of need, hence the deep sorrow at his demise. Family:

Orian Sailarn, of House Silarn.
Orian is a young drow noble who has a fascination with dwarven goods, especially those buried in ancient crypts. A necromancer of no small power or influence in his House, he was charged with collecting what powerful or valuable relics and artifacts of Tar Taargath he could. It was there he met Angrin, and decided to use the young dwarf rather than slaying him outright. This led him to many treasures, most of which he lost to Angrin's constant meddling. At this time, he regarded Angrin with an amused sort of irritation. It even became something of a game, sending his kobolds, orcs, or goblins to harry the lad as he sought out relics. However, when he heard that there was a potentially potent magical artifact that could be of value to him, he alerted his Matriarch, who sent his younger sister to get it for him, along with her favored consort. This led to Angrin humiliating and eventually leading the drow to the death room, which killed them all. Orian was severely punished for his blunder in "not slaying the dwarf when he had the chance," never mind the fact they wouldn't have learned about the artifact if he had. Thus, when he was commanded to attack the Deep in retaliation, he did so with great pleasure. However, he could not slay Angrin, much to his frustration. Now he watches and waits, planning to take his vengeance for his humiliation and punishment. Orian Sailarn, drow noble necromancer
