I like how we all seem to more or less get on straight away, but Dwarves have always been social and compassionate with regards to their own race, so it makes sense. :p
I'm planning to change that with my submission, I guarantee it! She be dwarven, but unlike and standard dwarf's-dwarf. It should make for some really good party interaction if I get picked up.

Oh now I really want to see this dwarf.. :D

Naaah Dwunder, Celeador loves elves, remember? He'll be making Cacame Awemedinade, Elven King of the Dwarves.
An Elf so bad ass, with so much hatred of his own kin, that the dwarves accepted him as their king.
(Though a female version, since he mentioned it was a female!)

Magnus, do you like my idea of you being the one to recruit me into the temple? I noticed you are 55 years old than I, so it could work. In my back-story so far a priest of Kols was seeing a foreman of the mining sight when there was ana ttack. That priest could have been you and you could have been completing Kols work as the man broke an oath?

Haha, no! But the thing about pathfinder, and D&D in general is how I feel that not much has changed with the Dwarf and Elf races since Tolkeen. I like to take a standard race and flip the perspective around a bit. Play with pre-established ideas and tropes and tweak them. That's when you get into the really fun stuff, and why Teladon is from the Mordent Spire. And why my Dwarf will be both "dwarven" and yet not. Something I think you have managed to capture with Dr. Logem.

I used a different variation of Dwarf as the basis of Dr. Logem, taking inspiriation from Dr. Moreau and the Medic from Tf2, in addition to the actual doctor I made in Dwarf Fortress. DF has a twisted, sick, and hilarious sense of humor about it, and I tried to replicate that with Dr. Logem, not to mention the fact that not all Dwarves in the game are warriors, priests, smiths, or brewers. Even if the most 'valuable' dwarves in a fortress are likely the smiths, jewelers, and brewers.
And then theres their disregard for anything sane. I've had Dwarven mothers in the Militia take their children out into combat and use them as shields. I make my dwarves butcher kittens to keep the population under control. Its hilariously unstereotypical from normal dwarves.. :D (And no, I didn't draw either one of those. I wish I could draw that well)
I really do look forward to seeing what you come up with, Celeador.

On skills; Marla, while a Summoner, who gets very few skill points per level, has Profession: Chronicler and Craft: Bookbinding. Now these may not seem like they contribute to the building of a fortress, but I feel that the Dwarven values support having a Chronicler. Her skills can be turned to book-keeping and design of runic decorative features pretty easily. She also has some Knowledges; Nobility and History specifically. I may pick up a level of Bard of some archetype for more knowledge; Dungeoneering, Local, Nature, Religion specifically.
Any chance of creating a Feat similar to Boon Companion but for Eidolons? :D

Gotta say, Rin's accent is mega hard even for me to understand, but as I know what he's saying, I think the misinterpretations that can come about are going to be pretty amusing over the course of this campaign if picked, and who knows, maybe with enough time spent in the company of normal non-accentee's, his accent might clear up a little and become a little more understandable.
Re-reading what I type just seems to get worse and worse as things go on, but he speaks how things sound mostly, just with some beginning and ends of words cut out, almost as if he strings them together with no breaks between.
Needless to say, I haven't ever once played a character like this. The same as I've never played a Dwarf before, and as for his accent? I think it's a mixture of Irish, Scottish and Welsh. Hmm. He'll be fun to play/fight with though, and his Story Feat is about as ridiculous as his looks and speech.
He doesn't tend to waffle on too much though, so his conversations have been short and to the point, but I think he's finding it hard to get a word in as so many conversations are going on at once. So, I'm roleplaying exactly as him and that's why my posts are shorter than a lot of the others, but then again with the length of time it takes to translate his speech, I think it more than makes up for it! :p

I think my record was 32 or 34 once. I do not pity you Robert. I had to go through and like define categories and rate all the characters with 1-5 stars in each category before I was able to make a decision. A lot of APs with obviously competent DMs get into the 20s. It's a testament to your awesome that you've pulled in that many people with a personal idea.

So we've reached a point where we have a little more than three times the number of applicants that will make the cut. I think at this point with the interest in the campaign being catastrophically larger than I expected, I will likely be cutting off recruitment early.
However, because I know some of you have only just managed to finish your profiles and get into the funeral, I'm going to maintain the 19th as the date when the final team will be determined so as to allow all interested parties to continue playing in the funeral and give me a better idea of what to expect from each player.
That said:
RECRUITMENT WILL NOW CLOSE ON SUNDAY JULY 14TH AT 11:59PM EASTERN TIME (-5GMT)
Submissions made after that point will not be accepted. Submissions made before closure will continue to be able to play in the funeral until the final decision on the team of explorers is made on July 19th.
There's just so many submissions, you guys are amazing! Who knew there was so much dwarf-love on Paizo forums! :)

Seeing as Irvask has only made one post in the funeral, I don't believe I'll be able to make the cut, and rightfully so.
The rest of you guys are way better at RPing dwarves than me : P
Irvask can just be an npc brewer(profession-wise) for his sister if you'd be intersted in throwing him the extra members of the expedition.
Either way I'll be keepin an eye on who makes the cut/ how the game develops!

Well, I'd be up for that Faelar, but I would really like to join in with this one in particular.
I see things as going two ways with Rin:
1. He won't get accepted because nobody understands him, regardless of the fact he actually sounds Dwarven and every other Dwarf sounds human now. :p
2. He'll be forutnate enough to be chosen on roleplaying grounds and we'll all become accustomed to one anothers characters.
We shall see!
He's not an argumentative guy, and using Lord of the Rings as reference, he recited his family heritage, because well....most Dwarves seemingly do at the drop of a hat! ;)
I've still got my back story to do, but that is pretty much everything. All that's left of my build is to present my carrying capacity and sort out how much money I have after my gear. I'm in London all weekend so can't do too much between now and Monday, but I hope that won't go against me as I like this the funeral at the minute, even though I'm pretty certain most people are ignoring him as they can't properly understand him....which is why he'll be so happy to talk to Magnus.
@Magnus - If you go up a bit, I think I spoke to you in a paragraph or so. :)
Dolgrin Girndmar |
To be honest, Rind, I'm pretty sure we could all agree the language being spoken here is Dwarven, in which case I doubt there are as many variations in language as we are showing. Sure an accent or two based on geography, but I'm sure we mostly understand each other clearly. The reason we are typing in "common" and not in spoilers titled "Dwarven" is for ease of typing and the fun of using a Dwarven accent.

Not sure I'd phrase it that way. Might make others chaff a bit havin' their versions of Dwarfyness marginalized. I kinda looked at Rindovaan as something akin to a Pikey (as portrayed in Snatch) in present company. I'm sure it's completely natural where he's from, if foreign to a more refined clutch of dwarves. At the very least, it's an interesting hook to grab onto for interaction between characters.
I really regret doing so, but I'm officially out of the game. I can scarcely keep up with the deluge of IC interactions. In fact, it is a little intimidating.
Hope you have a good game, plenty of fun and no dropout problem. I for one am doing my part now.
Clearly another'n laid low by Dwunderbran's charming personality! I kid, I kid (mostly) but I may abuse that angle in the gameplay thread. Sorry to see ya dip out, I was diggin' the background.

I like that he has attempted to give himself a new Dwarven accent, but it is an accent that Daelric hasn't heard before and he is struggling to understand it.
Daelrics accent as previously mentioned in game was drilled out of him in the temple, but when he gets drunk or in a stressful situation, his accent comes back.
Sorry to see you go Irvask, Hyrin.
