Thistle lets out a resigned sigh, the fate of this unfortunate entity all but sealed in his mind. He takes a step back to get out of the way of his more powerful friends, and mumbles a prayer under his breath to aid their efforts against this guardian.

Thistle grins a confident grin as he watches his companions batter the guardian. Feeling inspired, he holds his ground and takes in the awesome sight.

In the back of his mind, he ponders whether or not he would be able to utilize a new, divine power granted to him by the goddess of all healing. Thistle studies the movements of the mechanical device carefully, ready to pull the divine strings of fate at a moment's notice.

I am going to delay for now, not much I can do at this point. However, I have a new feat called Divine Interference. To use it is an immediate action. So to help save some back and forth I will just declare now that the first time the construct makes a successful attack against one of the party members, I will activate that ability, sacrificing a level 2 spell in order to make him re-roll the attack at a -2 penalty.

Thistle nods his head to the side slightly, shrugging his shoulders at the impressive prowess that his companions continually display. He reads Caranthir's lips and nods in agreement. The walking nagaji tank moves forward to defend his companions as they make to enter the door.

Bruce opens the door, and has a good look at the chamber behind it. This huge chamber was once square, yet the northern half has bubbled and run as if melted. Above, the ceiling arches up in a dome braced by grand arms of stone carved to resemble the ribs of some great beast. From the dome’s zenith, the perfect green glass column of the Emerald Spire spears downward.

Where the Spire meets the floor, it is clasped by two wide, horizontal brass doors set flush with the stone. The Spire pierces these doors along their seam, where the bronze conforms perfectly to its smooth cylinder. Runes and hieroglyphics—some crude, some incredibly intricate—cover the doors.

The runes on the door seem to be written in every language imaginable, but they all say the same thing: "WARNING".

A mechanical being, similar to the one in the previous room stand guard, looking warily at the strange, warped, worm-like creature in the other end of the room. When the party enters, though, he turns their attention to them, and says Unauthorized intruders, you will hereby be removed from this area. None are allowed to breach the seal!

Caranthir feels his memory becomes poorer as the wave of randomness hits him. EVen worse, the spell causes him to feel bloated and flabby all of a sudden, and he notices he is no longer holding his bow. In fact, he no longer has his arms, or legs. It's a bit hard to tell from his position what has happened.

Everyone but Caranthir:

Caranthir has turned into a giant, four-eyed fish.

The wave of randomness finds more victims in its wake: Bruce feels a lot less powerful, and Jelani starts crackling with electric energy as soon as the wave touches him.

Thistle screws up his face in confusion as his body begins to glow, wondering what creature could pull his divine power from him unbidden by him. Panic creeps in just a little as the light is clearly tainted by an other-wordly force.

When the light explodes, singing his garments and leathers and leaving a faint smell of cooked snake wafting through the air, he breaths a sigh of relief assuming the effect is over. He flicks his head back and forth, surveying the chaos in front of him.

So far back from the crux of what is happening, Thistle decides to get a little closer to the action. He sidesteps the hulking Jelani, plowing past the machine guarding the door without regard to the openings he creates. Inside the room, he braces himself for the next wave of chaos.

SPECIAL ABILITIES

Death Flood (Su) When a grodair is killed, it immediately explodes in a 15-foot-radius burst of highly pressurized water that deals 5d6 points of bludgeoning damage (DC 17 Reflex for half). After the explosion, a successful DC 25 Survival check allows a creature to recover a cluster of strange organs from the remains. This cluster functions as a decanter of endless water for 2d6 hours, but can only produce a "stream" or "fountain" effect. Failing this Survival check by 5 or more causes the cluster to burst, dealing an additional 2d6 points of damage to that creature (no save) and destroying the organs entirely. The save DC is Constitution-based.
Muddy Field (Su) As a standard action when on sand, soil, or other types of loose earth, a grodair can gush standing water into the area surrounding it. Upon doing so, the land within 15 feet of the grodair is treated as a shallow bog. This water remains as long as the grodair is within 15 feet and wishes to maintain the water. The bog instantly disperses as soon as the grodair is killed or moves out of the area.
Water Blast (Ex) The grodair's ranged attack is a pressurized blast of water. This attack has a range of 60 feet with no range increment.

The serpent-like creature unleashes another wave of chaos while it moves to bite at Bruce, clawing him badly before grabbing a hold of him with its tail.

Bruce feels his bones become weary, and feel very, very tired. Fatigued

I read the Polymorph spell to see how I might dispell it, and it says specifically that it can't be used on an unwilling target. Just wanted to check to make sure that was right. Otherwise there doesn't appear to be any provisions for ending the effect early.

His blessings bestowed on his companions, Thistle shuffles forward to get closer to the chaos creature. He bangs his morningstar on his shield, trying to get the other's attention and bring them to what he feels is the real threat.

I cannot help Caranthir. I... I don't know how... he laments, becoming worried about what might happen now that his powerful friend has been removed from the fray.

Thistle winces a little as Bruce takes a beating from the chaos beast. He begins to get impatient, lamenting Caranthir's circumstances and hoping they can finish these things off quickly.

What's a chain breaker? I am unfamiliar with that weapon or it's source material.

Edit: You also need to have the point blank shot feat before you take precious shot. Sorry I noticed you said you haven't played this guy in a long time so I did a quick glance to make sure he's up and ready. Unless you got it from a ranger thing in which case you can just ignore me :D.

Chain Breaker is the name of his +1 earth breaker. I get Precise Shot without point blank shot because of my Archery Combat style.

The next one is also 3-5, so I'd have to sit out two. Man, in the old days it didn't matter what level you were, you could play whatever you wanted as long as you were the minimum level of the scenario. When did that change?

FAQ re Early Entry:
Spell-Like Abilities, Casting, and Prerequisites: Does a creature with a spell-like ability count as being able to cast that spell for the purpose of prerequisites or requirements?
Yes.
For example, the Dimensional Agility feat (Ultimate Combat) has "ability to use the abundant step class feature or cast dimension door" as a prerequisite; a barghest has dimension door as a spell-like ability, so the barghest meets the "able to cast dimension door prerequisite for that feat.

Edit 7/12/13: The design team is aware that the above answer means that certain races can gain access to some spellcaster prestige classes earlier than the default minimum (character level 6). Given that prestige classes are usually a sub-optimal character choice (especially for spellcasters), the design team is allowing this FAQ ruling for prestige classes. If there is in-play evidence that this ruling is creating characters that are too powerful, the design team may revisit whether or not to allow spell-like abilities to count for prestige class requirements.

Re Jelani: I am fine waiting for Jelani if he wants to wait. That said, he does scare me tremendously with his incredible combat prowess coupled with his -1 Will save. I do hope your next purchase is a Clear Spindle Ioun Stone to put in your Wayfinder, and also that Asuna has a way to get you back under control quickly should you be turned against us. :)

My current plan is to sit out two levels then, if that's the best solution we can come up with. I'd be fine with delaying leveling up as well, but that's probably illegal or something.

The next chronicle gives 1856/3711 gp (slow/fast).

I'm fine with holding the spot for Jelani. Would you consider running a pregen for the two levels you have to sit out? That way you'd keep up with the story and character development, and you won't have to be inactive for 2+ months. The new ACG pregens are pretty interesting.

There's pregens for most classes at level 1, 4, and 7, that you can use as a character in a pfs game. So, for a tier 3-5 game, you can use the level 4 pregen. You'll get a chronicle that you can apply to any character (in the right range). The pregens can be found under player resources on the pathfinder society page.

You must start with them as listed, but what players sometimes do is sell their stuff and replace it with something else. It makes more sense at lower levels, though. I'm fine with calling Crowe 'Jelani', and I appreciate the continuity

Okay, Chronicle looks good and I'm ready leveled and ready to go.

The only issue I have is that in the dropbox none of the first pages show up with the "Land Rush" chronicle sheet (when I look at the sheets of everyone who was here for level 1), so I've never been able to see what I can buy with that.

I'd like to see that if you get a chance or if someone else can post that.

My shopping list is much smaller.

Purchasing a wayfinder (not sure why I didn't have one yet for this character and enchanting my mw alchemically silvered morningstar to +1.

I can now cast 3 level 2 spells, and I can cast lvl 2 spells 4 times a day.

Cure Light, Cure Mod, Lessor Restoration, plus channeling positive energy at 2d6 a pop 5 times per day. If you guys die, I am doing something seriously wrong.

I think I'll also go for a full chronicle next one and play it with a pregen. Then the adventure after I will play with Asuna again. I can give another char a free lvl then :).
