Asuna makes a compelling argument to use the pregens for the slow levels...I have several characters who would love to use the level. I think I'll join her in that...

![]() |

I would consider the same thing with the pregens as long as it doesn't bother our gm. I can't say I wouldn't mind having the ability to plop a level on one of my other characters once they reach the appropriate level to do so... I am sure I can find a nice healer cleric (doesn't seem to be any oracles) that I can skin as Thistle for 1 level of the dungeon.
But I don't want to mess with what we have going here either. So GM, please speak up if this new trend bothers you at all. I will at least be using this character for the next level, and can worry about slow/fast track and pregens once we finish that.

![]() |

I looked over the pregens and will be trying out the arcanist.
I'll make an alias for her later on.

DM Kludde |

I'm perfectly fine with you guys using preens for the next level. Some quick tips: create an alias that says '{{player name}}'s Pregen', so you can switch out the kind of pregen you're using for future scenarios. The paizo boards don't allow duplcate names, and they don't allow you to change the name after 10 posts, so having a generic pregen alias help prevent clutter on your account.
I still have to get fully familiar with all the ACG rules (and I don't have the book, though all the info is in the prd these days). I might pose some questions every now and then.

All done. Meet Enora.

DM Kludde |

I made Landgrab chronicles for Caranthir and Fellgrim (and, for completeness' sake, also one for Jelani). The empty first page on the original chronicles was an artefact of the pdfwriter I was using, I fixed it in my newer version.

DM Kludde |

Boon Rolls:
DMK: 1d20 ⇒ 4
Asuna: 1d20 ⇒ 13
Bruce: 1d20 ⇒ 19
Caranthir: 1d20 ⇒ 8
Fellgrim: 1d20 ⇒ 9
Jelani: 1d20 ⇒ 2
Thistle: 1d20 ⇒ 16
Boon of players choice on a natural roll of 1 or 20
**Re-Rolls not allowed on boons**

DM Kludde |

Shall we finish this level, and move to the next?
Can you all put the right initiative for your new character in the textbox on the map?

![]() |

Is there anything left to explore here? I can't access the map right now... I will keep Thistle for this next level and use the pre gen for the one after.

![]() |

Thank you for the land rush chronicle ... Fellgrim is ready to proceed (no pregen for him on this level).
Bruce ... thank you for the formula copying info. Looks like I am burning 80 gp then :-)

![]() |

Thanks for the chronicle. :)
Yes, let's finish this level and move to the next.
I was thinking of trying a re-skin of Caranthir for the off-levels to keep continuity like Jelani is doing.

![]() |

Just fyi, while you can't change the name of an alias after 10 posts, you can change the picture freely... So if you want to use the same picture as your avatare, that would help with the visual continuity...

I've put up the map for the next level. Please be advised that I'll start this level whenever you're ready, but that I'm on holiday Dec 18 to Dec 28 - I won't be able to post during most of those days.

Jolly Roger's Alias |

Perhaps we should make sure that not everyone uses his pregen this level and a few do it on next level?
Otherwise we might be in for a challenge with non-optimized characters. Though this one seems pretty ok.

![]() |

I'm using Thistle this level, pre gen next. I'll keep everyone alive, no worries :)

Ok, so this is the chronicle sheet I was talking about. The boon is Explore, Report, Cooperate. However, I realized it is for a different character, so it might not work anyways. Either way, let me know, if it can apply, I would like to use it to find out if we are just fine skipping this implied puzzle. If not, then I suppose I can play the oblivous deaf guy... :)

DM Kludde |

I'll be on a vacation from Dec 18 to Dec 27, with very little to no posting capability. Enjoy the holidays, all!

Have a merry Christmas dm!

I feel we are somehow expected to pick a fight with them. Since we could just go to the next level no issues. Feels wierd...

I think there is still something here to learn... Just not sure exactly what questions to ask. I think if we explore some more we might get a few more clues.

![]() |

Yeah ... does feel like we might be missing something ... from the description, I think we need to turn the thingy off with the door plates; but I am not sure why yet nor if it is worth starting a fight. I figure we can always cleanup later right?

DM Kludde |

Just to give you some guidance: this level is a bit strange in the PFS format (remember, it wasn't originally designed for it), so some things may be counter-intuitive.
The rewards for this level are set up such that you get progressively more XP/PP for completing more objectives (and the chronicle is unique in that sense):
- You've definitely earned your way through by offering to the god box.
- You've also noted the valuable trinkets stuck to the super magnet that is the god box, and identified a way to interact with it (the slots and the doors). You guys are pathfinders: isn't this a unique artefact?

DM Kludde |

We might be close to the ending of this level (it's a strange one, I admit). Can I have your day jobs, and for those running pregens, the PFS# to apply the chronicle to?

![]() |

Day Job, Diplomacy (from Caravan Vanity): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30
Almost kinda wishing I had done the pregen on this level... all I did was talk... of course the diplomacy check was pretty useful :)
edit: wooo day job!

Pregen - PatheticWretch |

A couple questions:
1. What level characters can we apply this to? Is there a range, or does it need to be exact?
2. I'm guessing pregens can't do a day job check...correct?

DM Kludde |

This level is tier 3-5, so the character must be in that range. You can also apply it to a character of lower level, but it won't become active until you reach the right level.
(For instance: you can apply it to a character of level 2 that has played 5 regular PFS games . As soon as it gets the chronicle for the sixth games, it would turn level 3. When that happens, the Emerald spire chronicle would become active, and the character would instantly be level 4)

It's actually even slightly harsher than that: (See FAQ)
If my PC or pregenerated character dies permanently, what happens?
Player characters and pregenerated characters who do not return to the realm of the living receive 0 XP, 0 PP, 0 gold, and no items or boons. This is marked on their Chronicle sheet along with a note that the character is permanently dead. If a player was planning to hold the Chronicle from a pregenerated character and apply it to a lower level PC once the PC reached the level of the pregenerated character, they must either apply the Chronicle sheet immediately and report the PC as dead or assign the Chronicle sheet to a new level 1 PC (ie a new PC number) and report that character as dead.
(Though the part about creating a new PC number and killing it off seems a tad daft to me)
I'm reading the FAQ entry as: "The chronicle sheet should have the full PFS# on it"

Day Job: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14

Jolly Roger's Alias |

Never even had to cast a single spell :(.

DM Kludde |

There's a new set of chronicles - just have a look and see if they're correct.
(I'll post a bit of explanation on what was going on when I have a bit more time)

DM Kludde |

Because it is gameday 3:
Boon Rolls:
DMK: 1d20 ⇒ 13
BruceW: 1d20 ⇒ 2
Fellgrim: 1d20 ⇒ 8
Jelani: 1d20 ⇒ 15
JollyRoger: 1d20 ⇒ 13
PatheticWretch: 1d20 ⇒ 19
Thistle: 1d20 ⇒ 2
Boon of players choice on a natural roll of 1 or 20
**Re-Rolls not allowed on boons**
---
Unfortunately, no boons...

Curses! This is the 4th chance I have had... Still no luck... :) oh well...
I will be using the cleric level 4 pre gen for the next level, but I'll change her picture and skin it so it is at least similar to Thistle for continuity sake. Thanks again gm kludde! As always, it was a blast!
-Posted with Wayfinder

DM Kludde |

4th chance? This is the fourteenth (!) roll I'm making, and still no luck :-/
Thanks for the kind words.
As for the peculiarities of the level: there several pieces of information that might make sense.
I was looking as some podcasts on youtube (the know direction channel is nice for those who cannot go to gencon but still want to know what the paizo folks have to say - I love their stance on diversity), and I saw a Q&A with the Emerald Spire developers. Turns out, the developer for this level is a really old school guy (he was a developer on temple of elemental evil 1.0). The god box level makes sense in that perspective: in the developer's own words, he called it "Trog city, with a twist".
Long ago in another part of the universe, an autonomous probe designed to explore naturally occurring rifts in the fabric of space discovered one that led to a very unexpected place indeed—Golarion. Passing through the heightened magical fields surrounding Golarion transformed the probe’s artificial intelligence into an animating spirit and altered its internal systems while leaving parts of its original programming intact. The probe arrived near the Emerald Spire, pulled in by the planar energy. From its new vantage, it continues its centuries-old mission, peering through invisible and intangible planar rifts at countless weird and unexplored dimensions. Obeying its ancient imperative to nurture and protect sentient life, the probe uses its wondrous powers to provide for the local dungeon denizens, a tribe of very peculiar troglodytes who call their mysterious benefactor skraa-orm thagh in their own tongue, or “the Godbox.”
The level was never designed as a PFS level, so in its simplest form, you guys could've just said "Ok, we made an offer, the door to the next level is open, let's go". You would have gotten 1 PP/ 1XP for that. Other than that, the design of the level pretty much gave the GM complete carte blanche on how to resolve the trog interaction (something you did splendidly, I must say). In particular, it said the frogs would be protective, but would not be the first to strike. You pushed them to the brink, but never over it.
I'll be happy to answer any questions you have around the god-box or the level, in any form.
