Male human (Oeridian) Cleric of St. Cuthbert;

Brother Peran looks over at the lady stating she needed a net.

"What kind of net are you looking for Miss?? I know a little about nets...my father and I were fishermen out of Seaton. Perhaps I can help?"

Naia’s eyes widen a little.

”Ah...Miss Naia, Master?” she asks the sailor’s name.

”Seaton you say. Hmm, me I’m a Saltmarsh whaler. Well [here Naia looks at Peran criticially as if to judge his worthiness, trustworthiness and general sailoriness...] I’m looking for a weighted net I can throw over a foe to tangle them up. We’re not talking bass or tuna, but live, two-legged folk. It needs to be about so big [here Naia indicates on the floor with her harpoon’s butt] and, um, I guess the headrope could be strengthened with a strap, to form a kind of handle for when I toss it, and then the trailing rope might also be stronger....um...” Naia continues, leaving space for Peran to add his expertise...

Male human (Oeridian) Cleric of St. Cuthbert;

"Ah, I am sorry. I am Brother Peran of St. Cuthbert. So you are looking for a net to entangle your foe? Well, weights would work...but what about hooks...or perhaps a combination of the two..."

Looking at the group, the young priest blushes and mummers Sorry..maybe we should take this outside...

Naia nods to Brother Peran, oblivious to any social gaffe she might be engaged in.

Well, to be honest Brother Peran, I think the net itself will be enough to tangle ‘em, and keeping the hooks from catching even before I throw it could be nigh impossible. The weights are more to help it fall and if we distribute them away from the... she can be heard saying as she walks outside, deep in their conversation

"If anyone is going back, there are a couple of things they should probably take we didn't have enough of last time. We barely had enough light. We ended up using quite a bit of rope for various reasons, so getting and taking more rope could be important." He stops and thinks for a minute before pointing to some of the others. "You were talking about something being under the house. Might need a LOT of rope, and some climbing gear, if we need to move down and up the cliff. And ammunition, of course."

Hearing Rabalar's warning Narciso can only shrug. "I haven't done any underground work before so I have no lantern or torches. I can see in low light as well as a full elf, but don't have the darkvision like Grond. I probably should have learned the Light cantrip, but didn't see the need before."

Need an updated status of everyone's HP and conditions after a full 8 hour rest. Which means you get 1 HP per LVL plus CON bonus. Antas is still probably bagged up because I don't recall any healing done after they got back but I don't mind if Peran does retroactively heal him as he would have done that as soon as they were safe considering he was in critical condition. He was at 1 hp.

Peran will heal anyone who needs it before going off and making a net with Naia.

Prior to Naia leaving with Peran and the group dispersing Edan stands up and asks who is in need of healing prior to the party leaving for the house. As he and Peran attend to the group he says his farewells to his friends.

All party members are back to 100% of their HP.

Rabalar, Naia, Edan, and D'ogryn visit with Thout but the poor half-dwarf is in and out of consciousness but physically he appears to be healthy. You find out that Lyra and a few of the others on the Church Council attended to him. He is currently suffering from the effects of the poison which appear to be causing him paralysis in the legs and these bouts of falling in and out of a deep sleep. Lyra seems to think in time he will recover fully but he needs rest.

Edan turns his attentions to what Thout will need during his travels and speaks to Geolin. Geolin has arranged for at least four retired town guards to travel with Edan.

Geolin and the Lord Mayor desire for the party to leave by mid-day to finish this investigation as quickly as possible and figure out what is going on in the town. In meantime they will continue to search for this assassin who murdered Zove and nearly murdered Thout.

Who is doing what? Naia and Peran are going to find a net and modify it. What is everyone else doing.

Walthas

As Peran and Naia move out into the Courtyard he calls out to Peran and Naia. Keep a sharp eye out and be aware of your surroundings! We don't know where this man is and we don't know who else is involved. Be careful!

Naia gives Walthas a salute and a meaningful nod of thanks. She rummages in her pack and pulls out a slightly crumpled sheet of parchment. She rolls it up and hands it to Edan.

”Give this to Thout. With strict orders to return with a whole and hale body!

Naia gives the Touv a bear hug, burying her head into Edan’s neck.

”Sorry, but you’ll have to come back too to get yuir portrait done.” she jests, her voice breaking a little as a rogue tear breaks ranks from an eye. “*sniff* I’ll miss you E. Take care.

With that she leaves with Peran.

Ferona motions for Antas to accompany her, "Should we be forced to spend the night at this place I believe we should equip ourselves for the trip. A bedroll would be wise and also extra rations." She turns to face Geolin, "Where would the best place to go to equip ourselves here? I believe we can get some food and water back at the Rest, so we just need basic supplies."

Ferona would like to purchase a bedroll, a couple of extra waterskins, and several days of food. Preparedness is key to survival :)

Antas holds Ferona and says we will require some rope, some oil, some torches, a small tent with six cords six pitons and a hammer, a couple of water canteens four ifn you have em, a bedroll each and a backpack each. We are working for the city so please ask for these supplies so we may do that job. Thank ya. Antas says with a military precision of years of training both as a soldier and a blacksmith

Grond takes a look at his pouch, then back at Narciso - "Ok, I guess we are supposed to take care of ourselves as everyone else has done" - he shrugs, motioning his companion to follow him, as he addresses Ferona and Antas - "It seems we are all in need of added gear? My friend Narciso has a knack for finding the right shop, at the right place, for the right price. Would you like to join us?"

Grond wants to buy:
- Bedroll
- Winter Blanket
- Rope
- Backpack
- Waterskinx2
- Rationsx8
- Crowbar
- A Sling and some ammo + pouch
- A dagger
- A bandolier
- A wrist sheath
- Grappling Hook
- One bottle of fine wine

(Actually Grond had not purchased most of his gear yet - he should have about 13gold left after this :P)

"Thanks for the vote of confidence Grond, but the others here know the town better. And I think we need to add a light source as Rabilar suggested. Few of us can see in the dark like you can. And if we are going into the basement of the house, and possibly deeper, we will need some way to brighten the way. I never learned the cantrip for that so a lantern and some oil will be needed."

Since others are suggesting rope I'll pass on that. But the lantern sounds like a good idea. (and flint and steel to light it!) Of course, if/when we level up I do plan to add the Light cantrip to my list of utility spells!

The Lord Mayor, prior to you leaving passes on a bag of coins to Naia. It is 100gp. The Mayor says the town will honor the 50gp reward but will also give the party a bonus for their effort to finish the pursuit of the goblins of 50gp as well.

The bag is heavy and as Naia looks in it she realizes it is the most money she has probably ever held in her life.

Soros

Listening to Grond and Narciso Soros speaks up. "Berian's Supplies would be the place to go. He and his younger son Bernot are very good people and would be a great deal of help in what we would need."

Iborian - Lt. Commander of the Watch

The half-elf speaks up after Soros speaks up. "Antas, unfortunately, the supplies we have are limited. We don't have a fully garrisoned barracks as you can see. This is really just a town watch and honestly whatever supplies you need will best come from Berian's. I can have rations and water pulled for each of you for a few days. Give you some additional quivers of arrows, maybe some torches, oil, but that is about it."

Naia thanks the town on behalf of her group.

”We will put this to good use, sir.

Naia will necessarily want to pool the new 50 coins for our new mega-group, and split the 50 amongst Soros, Edan, Thout, D’og, Rab, herself and Zove’s dad. I’m guessing Thout would be a part of that deal...Thoughts Rab/D’og?

"Come now Antas," Ferona gently chides the man, thought her eyes regard him warmly. "I am sure we will have access to any funds we need, and should it be required then whatever coin we gathered from those thugs who assaulted us previously would do nicely."

Once the meeting is about to adjourn she addresses her fellow Suloiseman D'Ogryn, "Where would you prefer us to gather prior to our departure? I have no problem meeting at Berian's yet I also feel that may raise some suspicions should we all meet there. Perhaps outside of town would be better?"

D'ogryn does not hesitate when responding.

Everyone should meet outside of town. Keep your eyes open as to who is watching and be calm about it. You should be able to tell who is just curious and who is actually paying attention. Get your supplies and be careful of what you say, how you say it and how much you say...and again be wary of who is curious and who is...a talesman.

He turns to Soros.
I guess I will have to ask you to look at that armor sooner rather than later.

Over his shoulder he says.
I need to get my shifts covered. I will meet everyone outside of town.

Chuckling at Rabalar's comment/question Narciso sets out with Grond and whoever else is heading to Berian's. "While I'm sure Grond could carry more than most pack mules, he'd be less effective with his axe. And ever since the first time I saw it hit an enemy, I've always been glad to not be on the business end of it!"

He casually whistles a tune as the group strolls down the road, watching to see who might be watching the group.

Soros

He turns to D'ogryn quickly as everyone scatters. "Do you need a hand carrying all this stuff?" He looks back at the rest of the group and back to his friend. "I can go with you and then we can stop at my place to grab my gear as well."

Once there, the young olf wanders around the shop seeing if anything catches his eye before replacing his rope.

No, I'm not begging for a shop or inventory description. I have no idea how much money he's getting, so I don't see a reason to search out goods he probably can't afford!

He moves slow and keeps checking his path both where he is going and from whence he came from. The current situation has him on edge but he does his best to keep that to himself. Stopping several times to just be certain of his environment. Returning to the Merry Mermaid, D'ogryn again enters in through the back door to the kitchen. Sitting down at the table, he waits for Irwish to come in. Seeing the man brings him much joy and he smiles both inward and outward to the man.
It is good to see you. I hope all is well and that there were no problems while I was away. There were no problems...right?

He pauses and waits just a bit before he continues.
We were successful with the goblins and such but the council wishes us to be sure of our success. We are not done with the goblin problem just yet. I had hoped to be back at work today but that is not the case. We stirred up a hornets nest following those pesky creatures and...just be careful while I am gone. Please.

He looks around the kitchen...
I would like to take a few herbs and such with me...if you do not mind. Not much, just somethings for the road. A few days worth that is all. I will leave coin behind when I leave.

After some more talk, the young man leaves the kitchen and heads to his room. Still very cautious of his surroundings. Once in his room he looks around to make sure all is in order as it should be. He takes his time to look over his supplies. Putting the armor that he claimed for his own over his frame brings a sense security to his demeanor. Placing several items in his satchel and leaving some behind, D'ogryn goes about preparing for the days to come. Grabbing all the coins into his coin purse. He takes a cloth form his night stand and wraps up the
two vials of sneezeweed, two vials of goblin poison and places them in the satchel. He places the three flasks of oil into his belt pouch. He sticks four torches into the satchel so that they stick out the side slightly. Into the pouches on the sash he places all doses of poison that the thugs where using along with the one remaining dose of antivenom.

The cook looks at his weapons that are scattered on his bed. So many blades to choose from. Taking the spring blade in hand, he looks at it close up. Deciding that it is small enough, he places it in his boot. Taking the Keoish dagger that Rabalar acquired for him and places it on his belt at an angle so that it rest at the center of his back. He then straps two other daggers along his right thigh. Looking at the reaming four daggers on the bed gives him pause. He is not sure how to proceed with the remaining weapons. Taking his mother's recipes book down from a shelf and laying it on the bed, resting the two normal daggers on top. He picks up the two daggers with the handles that are shaped like sharks and places them in his satchel.

He takes the remaining treasures that the group has found over the last couple of days and places them under a loose floorboard.
Leave nothing behind that could lead to my involvement with the death of those thugs. I hope that will help to keep Irwish and family safe from my actions.

He picks up his book and daggers, walking back to the kitchen. He places the book up on the shelf in behind the other recipe books. Walking over to the table with the utensil for cooking, D'ogryn leaves his last two daggers behind.
He will have a better time at defending himself with these than any of the cooking knives.

Grabbing some vegetables, hardtack and spices, the cook adds these items to his bulging satchel. Looking one more time around the kitchen that has become his home over the last couple of years, brings a sense of dread to him.

Leaving out the back door...a gold coin remains behind on the table.

D'ogryn again keeps his wits about him, watching the shadows for anyone that seems to be too interested in him. Making only one stop before meeting the others. With the new water skin in his possession, he felt that he was as prepared as he can get.

When they get to Berian's Narciso glances around. He really isn't interested in 'shopping' so just gathers up what they think they'll need. He mentally considers the count and decides that two flasks of oil should be sufficient, and all that he feels like carrying. Sniffing at the oil he again wishes that he'd learned the Light cantrip....

Buying 1 hooded lantern, flint & steel, and 2 flasks of oil. CS updated.

Irwin looks at the young man with a weird look on his face and then seems to look up to the upstairs. "I am fine lad but...I thought...well...I had thought you were still up in your room. The lasses said they heard you moving around up there but not just a half hour ago..."

The old man nods as you finish your update but sees the weird look on your face as you take in what Irwin told you. "Lad don't worry about your work here. We miss you we do...but if this your calling and you are serving the town then you are also serving us as well. Do what you need to do and the Maid will be here when you finish."

Irwin nods his approval to D'ogryn's request. "That will be fine lad take what you need. Maybe when you are done you can spend some time telling the story of your ventures to the folk out at the tables. Might help fill some seats for a few days."

You head up the stairs...

Soros

Seeing that D'ogryn was apparently deep in his own thoughts and didn't bother to respond to him he decides to head home and grab his gear.

He makes it a point to keep his eyes out for anyone watching or follow him. He makes several turns that would odd considering the direction of his home but it would also be unusual for anyone moving normally in the town. An odd alley that simply puts him right back on the same road or a turn down one alley to follow a parallel road and then right back into another short alley to put himself back on the same previous road. Always taking the time to check if anyone was actually following along.

He decided that he hated this and was glad he was not a "cook". He laughed to himself about the joke he just made but then checked again to see if he was still in the clear.

Perception 1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Perception 2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Perception 3: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Perception 4: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19

Once arriving to his home he felt as if he was not being watched or followed. However, he was no expert in this and if this "stranger" was what everyone thought he was there was a good chance the man would never be seen by him. That thought made him quiver a bit but he had no control over it so he decided to move forward. He preceded to go inside and grab up his stuff. He had not bothered to spend time studying for his spells today has he didn't really know what would happen. Now that he did he planned on sitting down for a bit of time and making sure he had the right mix of spells and enchantments for what he thought he would face.

As he made his way up the stairs he let his family know he would be going back out with the watch again. His sister-in-law seemed to worry about him a lot lately as did his mother. His brother hugged him and told him to be careful. "Stay away from the bugs this time." Soros saw him smile but at first he thought his brother was going to give him another lecture. But this time he saw his brother was really joking and at one point he thought he saw a smile creep along his serious face.

"I will do my best...I am not keen on being their meal..."

In his room he gathers up all of his belongings he will need. Then he sits down and opens his spell book. At first he run his hands over it...remembering just how this all started.

He starts to flip the pages and begins reading and studying. He finally decides on detect magic, ray of frost, jolt, read magic, and dancing lights. A good mix of cantrips that will be useful to the party. He opts to not prepare light and mending and have a more offensive set of spells and use dancing lights instead as it has a bit more use if the need arise. His studies lead him to under stand another spell called vanish and he intended on using that along with mage armor shield, and magic missile. Once he felt like he had the right mix of spells he closed his spell book and wrapped it up in oiled leather and tied it up and put that in his pack as well.

He made his way down the stairs and his sister-in-law stopped him at the door. "Soros be careful and come back home. It is good to have you home again. Your brother might not say so but he has missed you a great deal. Here take this as well." She gives him a small basket and in it are 6 muffins (dried cranberry) and cooked sausages six of them and six boiled eggs. He hugs her and thanks her and he goes on his way. Put the basket gently on the top of his backpack.

Six meals - good for 2 days before it spoils

Ferona nods in quick agreement with D'Ogryn's advice. "Okay we will meet you anon." Bidding the others farewell she exits the Barracks hall and quickly makes her way back to the Rest, ever watchful for any prying eyes on both her and Antas...

Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Being preoccupied with her thoughts does not help here though. Once she arrives back at the Rest she quickly hustles to her suite and gathers up her supplies, leaving none behind. Best to be prepared.

Once finished she leads Antas out the door and headed to their rendezvous point...

Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13

Ferona actually has supplies already so she will forgo the trip to Berrians.

Naia is with Peran making/adjusting a net. She’ll then go home and grab some food, taking Peran with her if they aren’t slready netting at her place.

The Exchange

Male Human Lt Commander, Chief Engineer

Antas gathers his few possessions and follows along to the town equipment shop hoping the coins they had found wound be enough to pay for their needs

Male human (Oeridian) Cleric of St. Cuthbert;

Do we need to make a roll or something to make this net? Just wondering...we could talk to the old net-mender down on the docks...he might be able to get us started

Naia and Peran leave and the two walk south down Merchant's Row and then turns right down Hymn's Road and south again down Fisherman's Road finally turning left again down the Coastal Road until the two of you come to three homes that sit on the south end of the road near the shoreline.

Most of the family is out in the water right now. Having seen whale sighting late last night and early this morning. Nan however was here outside watching the ocean as she always did on her rocking chair.

The small company arrives at Berian's Supplies. Rabalar, Narciso and Grond step up to the front door of the Supply Store. Rabalar had heard that Berian and his son Bernot are good people and very fair-minded.

Naia approaches her grandmother.

”Nan - this is Peran, Peran - this is Dara Temlow, my grandmother.” Naia smiles and looks out across the waves on the Azure. She crouches on her haunches and grabs a stick to fiddle with as she does when troubled.

”I guess you heard about Zove. There’s more to tell, but right now the council don’t want rumors spreading. You understand. Anyway, Peran and a few others have had their own run-ins with salty types, and there seems to be more to all of this than meets the eye.

Naia looks at her nan. ”The prisoner, from the house, the man that almost killed Thout. He escaped. So you all be very careful.

Naia sighs and leans back before standing up again. ”Our two groups are combining, and aim to return to the old house. I’m wanting to repurpose a net for combat. You ever see anyone do that? Peran here is a fellow sailor, and knows nets. He’s offered to help me...or in this case, maybe I’ll help him...

The old women smiles as Naia introduces Peran to her. She smiles...Peran can see this women has a world of experience about her. The salt and sun has worn many wrinkles into her face and hands. She has a smile that warms your heart and a look about her that portrays a good deal of common sense and wisdom.

"Good a fellow salt brother. The world is a better place with more fisherman and sailors I say." She ponders your request for a time. "I did hear about Zove child and I am sad to hear of her passing. She will be missed in this world as will her precious cat. I am sorry for you as well. It is never easy to lose a companion and a friend." She sighs and clasps Naia's hands. It is a hard life you want to lead little one...harder than that ocean out there and even more unforgiving so you need to harden that heart of yours and steel yourself for the loss you will experience. I hear that Thout will be heading home as well. He was a good lad...a bit cocky but you need cocky to make it!"[/b] She seems to laugh to herself at the quip. Her face hardens. "Poison...bah... A cowards tool if there ever was one!" She smiles at Naia and Peran..."When you start poking about and causing problems you will find there is always things that jump out of the bag that you didn't expect! Sounds like you gone and stirred up a pack of sea wolves you did."

Nan has told you tales of sea wolves....even a run in with a pack of them lead by a notorious assassin they themselves had to deal with called Hrarnok Sharkchum. Like a werewolve but half seal half wolf in their animal form. Plenty of her stories she told scarred you as a child...now you are not to sure they were just "stories".

"You know instead of building a new one there is an old snag net that your grand da took as a trophy from a scaly wag he captured decades ago. Up in the trunk... he used that on people himself.. had all sorts of hooks and barbs. Nasty little thing on the wrong side of it. It is in a foot locker up in the loft...old teak wood one with black leather straps and brass buckles. I will let him know you are going to grab it. Might need to mend it as it is not in good shape."

Something seems to break in Naia as her grandmother speaks of Zove and Okware. She exhales, and tears unbidden brim at her lids. Her eyes close and the tears flow. She sniffs and controls herself, shrugging and nodding with a smile of sadness as Dara continues. A furtive look to Peran lest he think less of her. A grimace as she remembers stories of the seawolves and reavers. And a bright eyed look of surprise as the old treasure is revealed.

”You were right Peran - barbs and hooks after all! Might take some use to get...used to it.

Naia wastes no more words.

”I know Nan. I get the feeling this is...a deadly business. I’ve been rash, and a little cocky, probably moreso than Thout. I don’t think he was cocky, just a brave young man. I’ll be careful.

The young woman looks to Peran.

”You’ll need to help me get it down from the loft...

Unless Peran wants to say anything to ol’ lady Temlow we’re good to go...

On hearing Antas wished to purchase some additional supplied she willingly tags along with him.

Perhaps getting some extra food and also water skins would be a wise decision.

Once the two have arrived she quickly makes a beeline for the others. "A pleasure to meet you once again. While I believed I was fully equipped for our...journey, Antas managed to convince me otherwise."

Ferona will purchase a pair of waterskins, one full of water and the other with wine.
