Naia's eyes widen as she see the dolphin.

A freshwater dolphin! How beautiful...oh! her thoughts finish as the dolphin leaps gracefully then dissipates.

Her mind turns to the practicalities of goblin-hunting. She slides further toward the goblins and throws her harpoon at one of the creatures, cord attached to her other wrist.

"Hai!!!

Not sure what you want for movement: +2 if Reflex or Dex, +3 if Acrobatics, +7 if Swim:
Move Action: Move further down cascade toward goblins.

Movement: 1d20 ⇒ 9 ...so Reflex/Dex: 11, Acro: 12, Swim: 19

Standard Action: Throw harpoon.

Zwirrr!!!: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Tnnnkt!!!: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

Grappling Weapon:

* On a successful critical hit with a weapon of this type, you can grapple the target of the attack.

* The wielder can then attempt a combat maneuver check to grapple his opponent as a free action.

* This grapple attempt does not provoke an attack of opportunity from the creature you are attempting to grapple if that creature is not threatening you.

* While you grapple the target with a grappling weapon, you can only move or damage the creature on your turn.

* You are still considered grappled, though you do not have to be adjacent to the creature to continue the grapple. If you move far enough away to be out of the weapon’s reach, you end the grapple with that action.

If hit:
Free Action: Grapple
Grapple: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17 [+4 CMB]

Note Naia has 50' of hemp cord as the weapon's "reach"

Two highest up are 50 feet away. The one near Okware is 40 feet up on a narrow ledge. Okware is in the water.

movement in Glen:

Movement is limited at the bottom of the glen. You can't run or charge without making a REFLEX check DC15. If you fail you slip and take 1 hp of non-lethal damage (river rock/debris). You can Hustle but there are limitations to your movement (See below):

On the shoreline it is considered rough ground and loose sand with pebbles: every 30 feet is 25 feet of movement.

In the water (moderate moving) with sand and pebbles - less than 2 foot: every 30 feet is 20 feet of movement. You can hustle but you need to makea REFLEX check DC15. If you slip you fall into the water you take 1d2 non-lethal damage as you fall into the water face first. (drowning).

In the water (moderate moving) with sand and pebbles - more than 2 feet not above chest line: every 30 feet is 10 feet of movement. Walk and Hustle but DEX check of DC18 if hustle. If fail you slip and fall back into the water and take 1d2 non-lethal damage from drowning.

If you slip or fall back you lose any remaining movement that round and will need to stand and regain your footing next round (DEX SAVE).

Bear in mind cover and concealment are in play here on both sides if used properly.

Naia continues to swim down until she hits the ledge and pops up and sees the goblin that was shooting at the beautiful dolphin in the water. May the gods guide the point of my harpoon into that b@$t@rds heart! She cocks her arm back and quickly adjusts for the height and distance and throws the harpoon! As she does the beautiful sea creature leaps out of the water right at the goblin, nearly fifteen feet out of the air and explodes into a spray of emerald green leaves that disappear into a golden shimmer that lands on the side of the cliff and the water. The Goblin leaps back in surprise and nearly stumbles on the narrow ledge but as he rights himself he is slammed into the side as he takes his last at this world and the harpoon that is stuck in his body and poking out the back. He tumbles into the water just in front of Okware. Making a loud splash and surprising the cat as the dead goblin penetrates the water. Naia pulls the slack in from the rope as the goblin's lifeless body plummets to the water.

Naia Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

Zove moves south wading through the water right behind Naia. She sees the Dolphin in the water rushing towards the wall and realizes the creature is going to attempt to make an impossible leap at the goblin on the ledge. As he breaches the water she can feel her spell begin to falter and the creature depart from this plane back to the ocean's of her own. At that same moment she sees Naia throw her harpoon and the raw brute power of it slamming into that goblin that never stood a chance against the force of Naia's arm! She realizes that her melee weapons will do no good her.

Zove Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

4: East Near Goblin(DEAD)

Okware makes his way along the east bank of the cliff and as he does he can see a lone goblin that was climbing up from the ledge just fifteen feet off the water onto the ledge that the goblin just plummetted from. He roars as if warning those behind him of the presence of a new enemy! The cat seems to be looking for a path up the ledge to get to his quarry.

This ends round 2 and begins round 3

Oh, I thought the goblins were closer. Unfortunately the d20pfsrd lists a harpoon's range as 10'?!? I listed the cord's reach of 50' for the purposes of grappling. So maybe Naia couldn't have hit. Still 10' seems really lame, but I guess, not out of the ordinary for a throwing weapon...

Not a problem. I checked prior to doing my post. You were only 5 feet away distance wise and 50 feet up but I only gave you a -4 (30feet total) and he lost his cover/concel) when he was surprised by the Dolphin exploding into leaves (thank Zove). You got a 20 (15+5) and so you just hit as their AC is 16 normally.

This brings me to another point. I am not sure I totally agree with the 10 ft range increment of the harpoon. That seems really short considering the weapon was designed for throwing and based on the javelin. Most 10ft weapons the range is based on it being a secondary purpose or not really made for throwing. 20ft might be too long (but I am open to the argument) so what about doing 15ft?. I have not dealt with the harpoon before so that bothered me last night as well which is why I gave it only -4. I didn't think a -8 was realistic or fair.

I am away from my home laptop at the moment. Something I wanted to reiterate to the group. Don't hesitate to make a post with your rolls, attacks, damage, and such..including skill rolls and a note on what it is for... You can be specific. I will work it in or adjust but in my opinion the more input I get from you the better. I can adapt it on the fly. Even if your view of what is going on is wrong I can adapt it. That is my fault if I didn't give a clear picture. And don't hesitate to ask for more detail, I don't mind giving it or providing it in a different manner. I will try and add pictures and such to give you some depth of feel.

Also when you do an attack include ATTACK/DAMAGE/CRITICAL roll. If it is needed it speeds up the process. If you plan to use an alternative critical other than damage add that as well like OSW did for Naia with the grapple. It wasn't needed but it helps to have it right there.

Understood DM. I would ask for 20' but the weight of a harpoon is well beyond what other throwns wepaons that reach 20' (chakram for example). Historically I wonder if harpoons were ever required to go very far, I can imagine that European whalers would have thrown down from a deck higher than the water, and that tribal hunters may have been quite close (given the non-metal nature of their bone/wood tips) and in numbers to bring the creature down/in.

So let's go with 15 feet. It boggles my mind that a throwing axe range is only 10 feet, but then I guess that is the comfortable range, and you can throw beyond the first range increment? Is there a second range increment and so forth? There used to be in ADnD1e...

Soros carefully wades forward to keep pace with Naia and Zove. Let's see if I can't sow a little discord. Once again casting with exaggerated shout and flourish, Soros summons four globes of light resembling will-o-wisps around the goblins on the eastern ridge above them. "Lumina saltatus!"

The Glen - Goblin Encampment - Round 2

Goblin Encampment Battle Map

D'ogryn Acrobatics: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2(-3 for critical)

D'ogryn attempts to maneuver himself so that the large oak tree between him and the goblins stay that way. He spins and cuts to the tree as he jabs with his knife. He manages to put the tree in front of the two goblins but the burning and sharp pain his chest at the shaft moves to the contractions of his muscles makes him wince and his movements are at best erratic.

D'ogryn has soft cover due to the oak tree. Soft cover provides +4 AC. If you had made the acrobatic roll agains his CMD (12) I would have given you full cover.

The goblin left of D'ogryn panics and takes a step to his right and pulls up his short bow and fires. Not knowing what else to do with this human dancing all around him he nearly bolted.

goblin short bow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
goblin arrow damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3
critical: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17

The other goblin takes a step back, drops his short bow and pulls out his handaxe. He seems prepared to stand his ground as he yells out something in goblins that sounds like a cat being skinned from the bottom up. This goblin seems more clever than his friend...

goblin:

Dirty human!!! Me going to skin youtz!

The shot was to fast and it simply flies by D'ogryn's head. Naia, Zove, and Soros can hear the scream of the goblin and see the arrow fly from west to east over the pool and into the trees on the other side.

D'ogryn can take an AoO of he likes.

The Glen - Goblin Encampment - Round 3
Goblin Encampment Battle Map

The goblin that came out of smoke raises his short bow and points to Naia and yells in goblin!

Goblin Leader:
Get the red fur one with the horse poker! Killz her quick!

As he yells that and Naia begins to tug on her line she, Zove, and Soros see two goblins break the edge of the ridgeline on the east side and fire their bows.

goblin1 SB: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9+2 elevated position
goblin1 damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4

goblin2 SB: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11+2 elevated position
goblin2 damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4
critical: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

Both arrows fly down and smack the water and are washed down the small waterfall. Soro's notices that the water gets cloudy as the small containers on the arrows shatter as they breach the water. The water briefly turns yellow-green and then washes out with the incoming water. He finishes his spell and on the ridgeline four lights, flittering in and out dancing around the two goblins. The two goblins jump as this happens startled by the sudden appearance of these demonic creatures. They begin to slap at the lights with their bows using them as fly swatters. Their attention seems to turn to the lights that seem to be pestering them and for the moment the clever distraction Soros created was working.

"We must not let him fight on his own."

Edan comes up fast and hard on the goblin that fell back away from D'ogryn. In his rush to engage the goblin he overcommitted and his swing came up short. Although it missed it surprised the goblin who now realizes that the young human is not alone and he now has to fight an armed man in armor. The goblin seems to curse under his breath and turns to keep Edan in front of him.

The Glen - Goblin Encampment - Round 3

Rabalar closes after he finishes wiping the snot away from his face and picking up his bow. Rabalar closes and stops at Rabalar's right flank, draws up his bow aiming at the goblin near D'ogryn. He yells out something in goblin and the goblin turns his head and sees the olf and begins to panic as he sees two more humans pressing down on his friend and more importantly himself! If I can't shoot him maybe I can scare him away from the cook!

Rabalar's shout in goblin:

Run while you have a chance or I will kill you where you stand!

The Glen - Goblin Encampment - Round 3

Two goblins who were sneaking around the west side of the cliff have now shown themselves. One goblin comes up on the ledge covered in ferns and grasses looks over the ridgeline on the west side and and fires his bow at Zove.

goblin bow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
goblin damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3
critical: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

The arrow shatters right between Zove and Naia surprising both of them as the arrow's debris flies everywhere. At first Zove spins her ahead away from the point of impact but realizes it didn't have the sneezeweed bulb attached to it. Naia seems to shrug off the face that an arrow just flew right behind her. Soros, however, realizes where one arrow can come more will follow.

Naia sees out of the corner of her eye the other goblin slide down a woven vine on the west ledge. He lands on turns and seems to be getting his footing as he turns around looking at the narrow.

Zove moves up quickly and with a bit more caution from the experience of the party in the past few moments. As she approaches she realizes Okware's frustration as there is no real way up the wall from this point. Okware seems to notice a floating old dead tree tied to the side of the wall and just below a ledge that is about twelve to fifteen feet above the log. As Zove finishes here command he leaps towards the ledge using the floating tree as the base of his jump.

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12

The graceful cat bounds off the floating tree and lands just below the ledge and manages to get a hold of the vines and holds on. He is just below the lip of the ledge maybe three or four feet down. It was an amazing leap but one that would have been difficult in the simplest of circumstances. The goblin leader seems to take note of the cat and slides away from it.

She notices at the bottom of the fall just as you enter the poll are a line of stakes lying on the bottom laying flat and to them is a line tied on both sides so it can be lifted to trap anyone inside the pool so they couldn't leave the narrow once the stakes were raised. Herself and Okware could now be trapped inside the pool with no support or way to escape if this barricade is raised.

She gets quickly to the goblin body and manages to pull her harpoon from the lifeless body floating in the pool. The goblin simply wiggles and squirms in the current as she pulls the harpoon out.

The goblin near Naia and Soros on the east side pulls an arrow from his quiver knocks and draws it. This time seeing Naia as the biggest threat he fires his arrow as he shouts out something in goblin to the goblin on the far ledge. He releases his arrow and it slams into Naia's shoulder with the feathered shaft sticking out the front of her shoulder and the head sticking out the back. It burns but she realized quickly she is only grazed.

Goblin shouting:

The goblin on the east ledge between Naia and Zove pulls another arrow and takes a shot at Soros ignoring Zove and Okware. Soros sees the arrow from the first goblin hit Naia from the side as he does the arrow from the second goblin bounces off his magical shield in a spray of yellow sparks and shattered wood!

-1 to casting spells?!? I'm going to cast one then!!!

A smile and a nod of acknowlegement was given to the goblin as Edan did not let it retreat enough to regain its wits, continuing to press the attack, resulting in nothing successful.

Edan closes the distance on the goblin and swings in a deadly arc but the goblin's small stature and nimbleness allow him to easily dodge the blow.

The goblin leader slides five feet along the ledge away from the hunting cat. As he does he pulls his bow up and fires an arrow at the cat.

Shortbow: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27+2 for elevation
damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1
critical: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

Okware cries out as the arrow pierces his flank and roars. It is not a call that any of the party has heard but everyone can tell that Okware is no longer amused with the goblin on the ledge.

Okware Fort Save:

Con Damage: 1d2 ⇒ 1
Paralyzed: 1d4 ⇒ 3

A few seconds later the cat begins to shake his head and then his body goes slack and he appears to be just hanging off the vines he got of a hold of...just by the claws on his paws. The goblin leader turns to Zove and grins as if to make a statement to the olf.

Is it the goblin scouts to end group 2 now?

Yes it is. I had to step away last night and couldn't complete their move.

The Glen - Goblin Encampment - Round 4
Goblin Encampment Battle Map

The goblin on the top of the ridgeline on the west side near the narrow begins to bounce up and down yelling at his companion on the short ledge behind him.

goblin shout:
Pull it! Pull the vine! Do it...he he he! Want to see them get poked!

As he does he turns and fires an arrow at the nearby wizard hoping to put a hole in his back! Soros hears the goblin shout and turns to the sound and as he does the arrow shatters into shards of wood and golden sparks of magical power from the ward that the young wizard cast. The goblin stomps his foot in frustration.

short bow attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

The goblin on the west side and on the small ledge. The companion to the one that just fired the arrow drops his bow and grabs a vine. Soros sees the action and realizes he is pulling on the vine. As he does he hears a wooden click and a pile of rocks bound in a net of woven vines splashes into the water with a loud thump on both sides near the narrow. As they do a fence of muddy, moss-covered wooden poles pop up right at the mouth of the narrow facing into the pool so to keep those in the pool from getting back to the narrow. It seems to lock in place with another wooden click! The goblin seems to jump up and down and clap his hands as he looks down at the party members in the pool.

Goblin:
"We are predators, not prey. You can run or you can die."

The injured olf taunts the goblins as he moves forward, trusting that Edan can handle the goblin at hand. As he slows behind the cook, he lets a shaft fly at the goblin which has been fighting the monkey-talented human.

bow w/ PBS, favored enemy, damage: 1d20 + 6 + 1 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (8) + 6 + 1 + 2 - 1 = 16

confirm: 1d20 + 6 + 1 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (5) + 6 + 1 + 2 - 1 = 13

My goal is to end movement adjacent to but right of Dogryn (as we look at the map), but I can't seem to move the icon on my phone.

This is a little wonky but I don't really know what else to do besides fail another climb check...can I use my entangle SLA on the cliff face to make a crap ton of vines snake out, and use them as hand holds to climb up and kill everyone?
