Soros looks at D'ogryn for a moment. "I am glad I could help. If there are any items you have I can sense if they are magical and I might be able to pinpoint what type of magic was used. If you need me too. "

There is the leather armor that has some enchantment on it...I just cleaned the it last night. It still needs time for the oil to settled in. Maybe layer today you could take a look at it?

I would like that.

As they walk D'ogryn keeps his attention visibly towards Soros. His eyes keep looking around at those that may be watching them as they walk. He tries to take mental notes on whose eyes remain fixed on them too long.

You are pretty sure that no one is watching you are following you at the moment. You spend the next five minutes walking from Soros home to the barracks. You turn west on Common's Road and the two of you turn north on Fisherman's Road and then a lazy right hand turn down Hymn's Road. Normally you wouldn't be paying attention to what was exactly on the cobblestone streets as it was really good to get into the details of it but you notice some very distinct brown and reddish-brown "spots"...rather large ones that look like blood. At first, you wave it off. But your instincts tell you it is not normal and as you and Soros walk you stop and look at two of them spread about nine to ten feet apart. It is clear that two people suffered grievous wounds on these spots. It is also clear whatever it was that wounded them was used by someone with a great deal of strength as the spatter was on the house to the east side of the street. The bodies are obviously gone and there doesn't appear to be any other signs of the fight...

@Narciso - D’og cleaned his magical suit of armor. Naia wants to clean her own mundane armor.

Naia is enchanted, with unfeigned glee she laughs at Narciso’s small magicks.

”Well, I need the stink of sweat and worse taken from my armor, and generally clean away the stains...so if’n you can accomplish that I’ll be in your debt!

Narciso looks the armor over and chuckles. "There's no debt. This spell is fun! He casts the spell and directs it to clean the armor, adjusting the color where the armor shows scuffs, then also casts Mending if there are any deeper scratches or cuts. "I can also use the mending cantrip to make minor repairs, like fixing this scratch here.... Mending can make actual repairs, unlike Prestidigitation that just makes things look better. Antas turns and sees the cutthroat is not backing down and lifts his polearm up and brings it down as he drops his hips with his full force.

The blow lands cleanly and the man's head pops has the hammer through it and into his neck and sternum. The limp body falls the hands and feet jerky as it fights to stay alive...

Ferona and Peran seeing Antas kill the third man with his hammer they both turn and see the man to the north preparing to turn and flee. It is apparent he has no stomach for this fight any longer.

Above and around you from the windows you can hear the call for the watch.

Oi...be quiet! Shots an old middle aged women but when see looks down in the shadowed street she sees the gruesome scene of the three bodies. Watch! WATCH!

From your north you hear and old man shout Get the GUARD! Yes...WATCH...WATCH!

You hear the echo and call for the town guard several times.

Edan and Rabalar

Edan and Rabalar finish up eating and they help with the clean up the area that the group quartered in. Rabalar checks his gear and spends a few moments checking it all.

Rabalar turns to the group. "We should get to the barracks. We can visit with Thout before we meet with Geolin."

Edan nods his head and seems to agree with the Olf.

Ferona staggers slightly as the enormity of the situation sinks in here.

Three men are dead here...Has the poison I have witnessed in otherr cities made its way to here as well...?

Helping Antas to stay on his feet she murmurs softly, "We should wait for the Watch here. Pray they are sympathetic to our plight. They assaulted us without warning or provocation..." adding uncertainly as she fingers the Lord Mayor's letter in her pouch.

I fear we may already be in too deep to withdraw here...

Round 4

In the distance from the harbor and from the market square you can hear the call of the town watch being echo'd along with calls for what is going on.

Boarding Crossbow:

This was taken from a 3rd party (3.5) book but I can't recall which one.

Used it for a while now.

Boarding Crossbow – a smaller handheld crossbow with a smaller bow than a traditional hand crossbow thus the shorter range and small critical range for damage. These are often seen on ships with crew who fire the weapons, drop them and engage their opponents. Two weapons can be fired as if both are light weapons. You can draw a boarding crossbow back by hand. Pirates, privateers, and buccaneers are infamous for using these like pistols as do swashbucklers and gunslingers (Bolt Ace ). They do have a chance of breaking after firing (5%) due to the torque of the smaller bow on the base. If it breaks you are unable to fire the weapon until repaired.

You can shoot, but not load, a hand crossbow with one hand at no penalty. You can shoot a hand crossbow with each hand, but you take a penalty on attack rolls as if attacking with two light weapons.

Boarding Double Crossbow – This is similar to the Boarding Crossbow but with an over/under configuration with two separate triggers. Two weapons can be fired as if both are light weapons. You can only fire one bolt at a time per attack.

Loading both in the same round is a full-round action that provokes an attack of opportunity.

Boarding Crossbow 40gp 1d3/1d4 20/x2 15ft 2lbs P (5% to break)

Double Boarding Crossbow 60gp 1d3/1d4 20/x2 15ft 3lbs P (5% to break)

It was never intended as a big damage weapon but more as a fire and forget. I wish I could remember what resource I got it from and now I will need to dig into my stuff and find it. I always thought it was a cool little weapon.

D'ogyrn?

Antas, Ferona, Peran
End of Combat

The three of you start to feel the adrenaline subside and your hearts stop pounding on your chest. Ferona feels a wave of dizziness and sickness come over her as she realizes what just occurred around her. Peran and Antas seem to stand in a daze for a bit but Antas quickly snaps to attention and looks around to see if there is in fact any thing else that would present a danger to his group. The lone cut throat runs off into an alley and disappears into the dark. His foot steps fade away.

The sounds of calls for the watch and more eyes glaring down on you makes you feel uncomfortable and uneasy. A few moments go by and foot steps and shouting break you back to reality.

DOWN HEAR! DOWN HEAR! AT THE CORNER! comes a shout from a window on Hymns road that runs east to west. You see to guards turn the corner and come to an abrupt stop as they see the bodies, and their condition, and Antas standing their with his tall hammer and the two of you covered in spatters of blood.

Oi. Hold! Don't move! The middle aged guardsman holds his club out and lifts his torch. The other man holding a club as well seems to peek at his sword on his belt realizing that they are out armed and clearly outmatched. From the west, coming from the harbor, another pair of torches spring out. These are the two guards from the docks that came to Peran' aide earlier. Both of the young men holding torches and clubs turn the corner from the dock and look at the scene. One looks squeamish and the other looks horrified at the bodies on the ground. The one nearest to you raises his club and lifts his torch. DROP YOUR WEAPONS AND PUT YOUR HANDS UP!

A voice from one of the windows on Fisherman's road just above you calls out. A male voice from the sound of it..."The guard caught the murderers they did! Those sailors were trying to stop them!"

Confusion sits in for a moment as calls from the windows seem to bicker over what exactly happened...most are just guesses but that one lone voice is gone.

The four guards stand holding torches and clubs waiting for you to drop your weapons and raise your hands.

Male human (Oeridian) Cleric of St. Cuthbert;

Taking a deep breath, Peran returns his club to his belt and, showing his hands are empty, moves towards the two guards he spoke to earlier this evening.

"Well this has been an eventful evening for you two. I hope you remember me, Brother Peran...you offered me some assistance earlier this evening with a fellow who was bothering me? Well looks like I should have taken you lads up on the help...seems he had friends who wanted to see me and my comrades come to a rather sticky end."

He continues to talk trying to defuse the situation.

The three of you need to handle this with care. It will require a diplomacy check from your group. How you handle that is up to you. Right now the two guards from the east you have never met. They are currently UNFRIENDLY to you. the pair from the east know Peran and they are INDIFFERENT to you. The calls and talking from the windows is causing some issues as well and that will add +2 to the DC as it is causing the guards to become more suspicious of you.

East Guard Pair (You don't know) - INDIFFERENT DC 16
West Guard Pair (Peran knows) - UNFRIENDLY DC 21

If you roll a SENSE MOTIVE DC15 you will be able to discern this.

Between the two of you speaking it doesn't seem to help your situation at all.

The two guards to the east...mainly the older one looks at the bodies on the ground and the clear prooding of the onlookers take a step forward to the group looking at Antas. Draw swords! Has he glances at his fellow guards. Drop your weapon or we will make you drop them! He looks at his mates. The one standing next to him drops his club and draws his longsword. The other two to the west however seem unsure but hold their ground. The one that spoke to Peran looks to the older guard and then back at Peran.

Drop your weapons and do as he says! Now or we will be forced to make you!

The other guard by him looks at Peran and at Ferona. We should get one of the officers.

It is but a smaller version. The bow is smaller from what I always gathered. Thus the breakage chance.

Hand Crossbow 100gp 1d3/1d4 19-20/x2 30 ft. 2 lbs. P

The boarding crossbow is like a cheap version of a hand crossbow. Smaller range, chance of breakage, and small crit range.

Ferona glances at the guard with a surprised look in her eye at the news Peran was assaulted previously, before shifting her gaze back to Peran.

Interesting...I look forward to questioning Peran further concerning what he found out...

"We have no desire to take offense with you,' addressing the guards here, "I would like to know why these men decided to ambush us."

Ferona glances towards Antas with a look of uncertainty on her face, "But why would he move against us so quickly...surely our disappearance would raise a few questions..."

...unless he fears we are closer to unearthing more evidence...

The corporal talks to the older guard for a while. The entire conversation is professional and to the point and is about what they came upon and what should be the next course of action. In the mean time the chattering from window to window seems to subside but a lot of figures still stand at the window looking down at the street and at the three of you.

The corporal turns to the three of you. You say you work for the council and the commander? Do you have proof? He turns to the older guard. Send a runner to the barracks to fetch a wagon and few able body men. Also best to alert the master of arms of this. The older guard nods and turns to his partner and passes along the instruction and to hurry.

D'ogryn and Soros

The two of you make your way to the barracks gates. Two young guards stand at watch and one of them waves you through as he recognizes you.

As you walk into the small courtyard there is wagon near the wall. No horses are attached to it but in the wagon covered by a canvas tarp appears to be bodies. You can tell because there are two pairs of boots and the top of what looks like a head but very distorted as if caved in or smashed in. The courtyard is empty and the stairs going up into the officer quarters is clear as is the hall going into the main barracks.

Grond returns inside fully equipped, after leaving a decent pile of pre-shopped wood as a silent 'gift' to the Temlow family - "Let us go then" - he agrees with Naia and the others.

"Thank you for your hospitality" - he bows his head to any of Naia's family members present - "It will not be forgotten"

Was this part of a pre-sale on wood as well? :)

The Group at Naia's

Naia, Narciso, Grond, Edan, and Rabalar finish cleaning up and head off to the barracks on the far side of the Market in Saltmarsh.

As you make your way north on Whaler's Road and you turn left on Common's Road. The large open field in the morning as the sun rises is a beautiful calming site. A few farmers and merchants are on the road as are town folk heading off to their jobs and duties. A few nod and tip their hat to your group. Especially Naia, Rabalar, and Edan who seem to be like celebrities. Narciso notices that Naia is rather uncomfortable with it as a few say good morning and try to talk to her only to have her keep walking as if she didn't hear them.

As you turn north on Fisherman's Road you make your way to Hymn's Road. You see a shift from townsfolk, craftsman, merchants to more fisherman, dock workers, and such. Again many say good morning to the group with a lot of them offering moments of conversation with Naia only to have her quicken her pace. In a way it is comical to see her deal with the notoriety by rushing away from it...

Roll perception.

The Corporal looks at Ferona with a bit of frustration and at Antas and Peran warily. If you have proof best do it now. Otherwise, we will be taking you the Gaol until the mornin when our officers are awake and wellrested lass! He looks at the bodies and the weapons in their hands. I don't doubt what you say but we have orders and I will not disobey them for you or anyone else.

Naia's Party

Edan Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Rabalar Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

Rabalar was busy looking up at all the building and watching all the people but Edan, as he was walking, was deep in thought and his eyes were on the cobblestone street. He noticed Grond catch sight of something on the ground in front of him as he was walking side by side with Narciso and Naia.

By Berna's blessings...the blood. At least three spots were somone fell and died from the looks of it. There is a lot of blood on the ground at all three spots... Edan stops and starts looking around and it catches Rabalar's notice.

Edan speaks up as Rabalar notices him. Looks like there was a fight here last night and not a scuffle. He points out the three spots and the dried blood on the side of the home to the north east. Splatter patterns cover it as if someone smashed a melon from the top down. Two of the spots in the cobblestone are covered in thick spots of blood that appear to sticky and nearly dried and one spot further to the west on the street is soaked in blood. From what Rabalar can see as he looks around and takes his time marking the area. Take 10+8=18 He can see that a bunch of people was involved...Maybe eight to ten but it is hard to tell with all the other foot traffic. Three died for sure or at the least grievously wounded but he doubts they made it considering they were lifted up and put into wagon from the looks of it.

Rabalar speaks up as the rest of them look at Edan. Grond's attention more on the area around them at this point. Edan is right...three fell and probably died here on the street. From a bludgeoning weapon...a hammer or mace from the marks on the cobblestone. This was a pretty big fight from the looks of it!

As your group comes up to make the turn on to what they call Hymn's Road Grond notices some out of place stains on the cobblestone street. He had seen these stains many times before growing up in the tribe but in a small quiet town, it was not something he would expect to see. The size of the stain...wait stains...three of them means something man-sized or bigger produced all that blood. At least three and maybe more...he looks around but he is unable to discern what happened here and just how long ago. The people on the street seem to be unaware of it and all the windows are all closed up.

Ferona sighs in irritation, feeling the effects of her magical exertions more keenly now. Briefly she considers calling the man's bluff yet as she considers this further she knows their time is shorter than she had estimated. She draws out the scroll bearing the Lord Mayor's seal, "Will this suffice for you Corporal? We are indeed on business with the Council."
