History:
My mother was from Wellsford, a worker at the Boot and Wheel. I've been told that she was beautiful. As a child of course I just considered that she was my mother. They said that her hair was a platinum blond that reflected light almost like it was encrusted with diamonds. That was probably what attracted my father to her. I wouldn't know for sure though as I only know what I've been told about him. He was a travelling merchant and stopped dealing with her when he realized what had happened. He never even considered that he might have been the father. Apparently my mother also did sex work, which was what caused the problems for her and me. The Boot and Wheel was run by Elimia Takala, and she didn't appreciate finding that my mother was working as a prostitute. She was fired and had to suffer the final months before my birth without any income. If it hadn't been for the charity and kindness of Antal Silverleaf, she probably would have died and I wouldn't have been born. A month after my birth, Antal went with my mother back to Elimia to beg her to hire her back, with a promise to never risk Emilia's business again by her unauthorized work.... Growing up in Wellsford was interesting and fun when I was little. Antal was a good friend, especially once I could walk at a good enough speed to keep up with the halfling man. He taught me to speak several languages other than the common human merchant tongue, dwarf, elf, and of course halfling. He also taught me about religion and his God Behron. I wasn't interested in dedicating my life to a Deity though.... I don't remember when I realized that I wasn't fully human. I have the obvious traits of my father, but there were only two half elves and no full elves in Wellswood. Sometime after I started playing with other kids someone teased me, calling me a "halfy". I didn't understand which just made them laugh harder. It took several weeks and finally a long talk from Antal before I understand about the loser that was my father, and many years until I accepted that my father was the real loser in the story. He never got to know who I am! My mother died when I was twenty. The health difficulties she had in the last days of her pregnancy weakened her, and the lower income along with raising me.... I never realized how sad she was until she passed and I was alone. Less than a year later a traveling troupe came through town. I was intrigued by them and joined them as they left town. I do have to admit that at first I fit in with the group well. I was technically still a kid and their life on the road was entertaining. I learned many songs and a little about playing a couple of instruments. They were very free with everything and I also learned about women. After a few years though I started to understand what their "free with everything" attitude meant around the people in the towns or cities where we visited. We weren't trusted and frequently we left in a hurry at night time. When they approached me, wanting to teach me to pick pockets and how to break in to homes, that was the end of my being with them. I watched for my time, and when the time for the hasty departure came I hid in the town. The next morning I was able to charm the people and accept me for the hard working young man that the troupe had rejected. It wasn't too far from the truth so I was able to live there for a while. About a week later I met Vincent, a semi-retired halfling bard. He had heard me sing and decided that maybe I could be taught. He was also impressed with my knowledge of other languages, including his racial tongue. I lived with him for almost two years, learning some more songs and stories, a little bit about magic and the peoples of the lands. He even taught me some magic, explaining how he used will power and music to channel arcane energy. He was surprised how easy it came to me. He taught me the proper way to travel, helping out with caravans and occasionally joining pilgrimage groups.
