The Glen

Rabalar lies prone on the ledge scanning from left to right looking for any hint of the goblins, a foe he detests, that is when he sees his adversaries!

Rabalar Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26 +1 for elevated position/+2 for goblins

Has Rabalar scans from side to side this time more slowly and looking for little details. On the east side on the nearby shelf close to the narrow he sees a bit of the ferns and wild grass move and that is when he notices that the back, legs, and shoulders are covered in some sort of cloak with ferns and wild grass woven into it. As he begins to scan he sees two more goblins on the nearby ledge also lying prone with the same camouflage. He is unable to see back towards that shallow cave as the smoke is masking any sort of clear site. But as he turns back west on the wall on his side he can clearly see a goblin lying prone on the forty foot shelf as well and he sees two more on the ledge just past the goblin and below. All of them are still for the moment but he begins to trace back to the other shallow cave on the west side and again he is unable to discern anything on it but ferns and wild grass and the slow rise of smoke coming from the cave itself. What confused Rabalar was how quiet this group was...

Goblin Leader Perception 1d20+2

NOTE I made a mistake...this is not Rabalar it is actually D'ogryn.. Exclude the +2 for Goblin and he still rolled a 24. My fault. Rabalar is still crouched at the willow tree that has the rope anchored on it.

Map is updated with what D'ogryn sees. He is not aware of Rabalar's ascent and Rabalar is not sure where D'ogryn is though he knows he headed south on the ridgeline.

This will be surprise round - D'ogryn is currently the only one aware of the goblins and they are not aware of him. After that initiative will begin. He gets a standard or a move action. He can maintain the element of surprise if he does not allow himself to be seen/heard.

Initiative rolls once surprise is complete.

Initiative rolls
D'ogryan 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Edan 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Naia 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11

Keeping himself low to the ground, D'ogryn moves back up the ridge towards his companions. Once at the corner where he can see over at most of them, he informs them of his discovery. He makes sure his voice is just loud enough that they can hear him.
Three camouflaged goblins on each side as the river widens just ahead into a small pool. Both groups are up off the ground. East group is about 40 feet up and the west ones are about 15. They all have cover. The back of the pool is hidden from view because of the smoke. I think some of those with ranged weapons should hit the west side from above as we set of their trap.
Be careful of any traps that may lie in the water just as you enter the wider part...If it were me...That is were I would place more traps.

As D'ogryn moves back to the ridgeline he hears hoots and whistles from further to the south and to the east. He then hears more whistles and hoots in response. It is clear that as D'ogryn moved back the sapling he brushed that was well over seven feet tall was what gave him away. That was when he realized he was all by himself...

This begins initiative. Those in the first group may move first.

Goblin 3E climb 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Goblin 4E climb 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19

D'ogryn can hear movement behind him back towards the pool near the ridgeline. He can hear hoots and whistles as well from the east and the southeast. As moves back he can see that the two goblins on the east and west ledges have just climbed up on the ridgeline and the two goblins on the shelf are scanning and looking at your spot and back down to the narrow at the same time. They appear a bit more nervous and not being as still as they once were.

Rabalar, Zove and Okware can hear hoots and whistles as well. Okware turns and tenses in the water almost as if ready to pounce at a moments notice.

East and West 2 Ledge Goblins have completed their movements. Soros and D'ogryn are next.

Not sure if I can post this or not but here it is.

Damn it.
D'ogryn wonders what he should do. The group is a sitting duck down there if he does not warn them. But if he moves he will lose sight of the goblins.
F$~% me! Well let us make this worth it...F$*&!
Still laying low and down, he calls out loudly
some of them started to climb up the walls on both sides...

He moves back into the brush to hide himself and prepare to ambush goblins.

Awaiting Soros for first group to be complete.

Round 1

Soros furrows his brow in concentration, tracing out the lines of an imaginary pentagram with himself at the center in his head, then sets it to spinning about him. My mind a fortress doth create, five walls crossed to fifteen make, and on three axes to rotate. His protective ward complete, he steps forward to the waterfall's edge to include Zove's great cat within it's bounds.

"I have conjured my protections," he informs those nearby.

All allies receive +1 deflection bonus to their AC while within 10 feet of Soros.

The 2nd group is now up.
2: Rabalar
2: Edan
2: Hidden Goblins

Edan trusted Rabalar to know what he was doing, but he moved to stay within the distance that Soros specified. Cautious, he tried to look ahead to make sure that they were not surprised by them. "Ah! There you are...", he said softly, as he felt a thrill race through him.

D'ogryn grips his daggers in anticipation.

Zove hear's Amaidar's warnings and the hairs on her neck stand on end almost as jagged as her feline companion's.

Edan

This is an adjustment to Edan's movement. It starts just before the surprise round.

Edan sees his friend Rabalar move to the rope and he taps Naia on the shoulder and nodes to the rope signaling he is going up the rope with Rabalar. He grabs the rope and realizes this is not a skill he is very good at. Having spent so much time in the monastery and at the forge there was never a need to actually climb a rope. He says quick prayer under his breath and begins what looks like a rather long climb up.

Edan is not strong enough to take 10 (11 strength) and has no ranks in climb. There is not enough time to take 20 so normal rolls apply.

Climb check: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (12) + 0 = 12

Edan manages to get up the first seven or eight feet but seems to struggle even with the assistance of the rope. The rocks are slick an covered with damp moss and it is a wonder that the young cook got all the way up without the assistance of a rope. He keeps working his way up the rope praying softly under his breath and dealing with what the Gods have put before him.

Climb check: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (2) + 0 = 2

Edan seems to slip and stumble and never gets any amount of reasonable footing doesn't seem to go anywhere after moving another two feet or so. Now ten feet off the ground and looking at another thirty feet of climbing he ponders the alternative but keeps climbing upwards.

Climb check: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (20) + 0 = 20

As he begins his attempt to climb he feels a wave of confidence wash over him and seems to find the right footholds as he nimbly climbs up the rope. Just before he was doing everything he could to get up this cursed rope and now it seems as if good fortune and a lot of repeated prayers would get him up the slippery wall. He looks down and can see he is now halfway up the wall and has about twenty feet left to climb but the wall seems a bit dryer and his new found confidence assures him he can do it.

+2 for exceeding a skill check by 5 or more for remaining rolls. DC9 to traverse the remaining part of the wall with a rope.

Climb check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

He goes to finish his climb with his new found confidence and quickly realizes his misfortune as he steps on a bit of loose rock and stumbles. Fortunately, he manages to quickly latch on to the rope and stop himself from falling off the wall and into the water. Now mad that he didn't notice the loose rock he begins to climb up again.

Climb check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12

He manages to cover another eight feet and is now twenty-eight feet off the ground and every muscle in his arms and shoulders are burning. He keeps moving upward as he repeats a prayer he has been saying all along...mostly to keep himself focused on the current task.

Climb check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

Edan spends a few moments slipping on moss and loose stone again and at this point Rabalar looks down to see what he is doing. He grabs the rope from the top and pulls it up slowly as whispers down to keep climbing.

Climb check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

Edan gets to the top and Rabalar grabs his near shoulder and pulls him up. Edan lays on the ground for a bit looking at the floor below and realizes he hates climbing...AFter a moment Rabalar moves a bit south and Edan rises and gathers himself and moves off towards him.

This concludes Edan's movmements up to present time. Awaiting Rabalar's movement for round 1.

The Glen - Goblin Encampment - Round 1
Rabalar - Group 2

Rabalar finishes helping his friend up and whispers to him. " I am going to work my way west and then south and try to flank any goblins that are moving along the ridgeline". He then taps him on his right shoulder and begins to move off to the west and works his way south and east with his bow drawn and keeping low as he skirts from tree to tree keeping bushes between him and the ridgeline to mask his silhouette. He does the scan from the ridgeline back to the west and back again as he moves.

Edan can see his friend go into hunter mode as he moves quietly off...in a way Rabalar reminds him of Zove's beautiful hunting cat when he goes to his place in the forest as he begins to hunt his foe.

Rabalar Stealth: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18+2 goblins.
Rabalar Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20+2 goblins

The Glen - Goblin Encampment - Round 1
Rabalar - Group 2

Rabalar seems to blend into the forest quickly and Edan realizes that he doesn't have the skills to stay beside Rabalar as he moves off to the southwest.

Rabalar doesn't see anything moving in the forest but he can hear the sounds of climbing and the noise of goblin grunts to the southeast about one hundred feet or less away.

Naia frowns in earnest. Nothing is happening as far as she can tell, but it is happening fast. In that she feels an immense pressure to do something. Having shirked her armor she eases into the water and begins to make her way into the pool.

Not sure how byzantine the rules are for not-quite-swimming. At this stage I'm kinda at a loss. Naia is moving with the current, dog-paddling to the cascade and then slipping down the steps/cascade. Full round action. Using all available aids.

The Glen - Goblin Encampment - Round 1

Has Naia dips into the water and begins to swim downstream. She hits the shelves that slowly slope down into the narrow. Here profile is low and Zove notices her as she goes by.

Naia enters the water and can hear the chanting finish as Soros casts his spell. Then Zove begins her spell it sounds musical in nature compared to the cryptic words that Soros was chanting. Even the feel of the casting was different. As she floated down the stream Naia could see the intense green and white light begin to swirl in the pool just thirty feet or so in front of her. Then as the light dispersed she could a form glide into the water. As if it slipped in from a hidden pocket in the water, a beautiful perfect dolphin.

The Glen - Goblin Encampment - Round 1

The near west goblin shrieks as he sees the creature in the water. Startled by the magic and by the creature he turns and fires his an arrow into the water. More out of fear than any form of readiness.

Goblin Shortbow to hit: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23

Goblin short bow critical: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Goblin short bow to damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3

The arrow hits the water and seems to curve for a foot or two and hits the mark. Piercing the side of the dolphin just behind his right fin. A small pool of blood trails out and behind the dolphin.

The Dolphin has 11 hp (Healthy) the arrow brings it to 8 (Grazed). The Dolphin is now grazed and takes -1 penalty on all attack rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks, AC, and caster level.

The Goblin laughs with glee as it sees the hit and starts giggling and jumping up an down. Pointing at the wounded dolphin and back at his fellows. In his exuberance, he slips and falls off the ledge smacks his head and then plummets into the pool head first. Slowly a pool of blood forms around the now floating goblin.

The Glen - Goblin Encampment - Round 1

Group 4
Okware
near east goblin

Okware moves against the wall on the east side trying to find a way up the wall and to the goblins. Several times he tries to plant his claws into the wall and with no success in finding a solid hold. He manages to get just underneath the near east goblin.

The near east goblin scans the other side sees D'ogryn and fires his bow into the ferns and tall grass.

perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (20) - 1 = 19
short bow attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

The arrow missed but strikes a tree just behind D'ogryn and a crack and a puff of something flies out into the area forming a greenish yellow cloud just ten feet away from D'ogryn.

This ends Round 1.

He moves on your turn and you have control of him. He just appeared. As far as you can see all goblins are elevated. The only one you see for sure is the goblin floating in the pool face down surrounded by his own blood.

Naia Temlow wrote:

From Naia's perspective she is not sure. When he fell he split his head open so badly his brains are running down the side of the wall. There is now a ten feet wide pool of blood surrounding the goblin and he is face down in the pool.

Is there a way we can have a set place for the map links that we will be using. I am getting lost trying to find it on the old post. LOL....

Hearing the twang of a bow string and the natural reaction to duck from such noises is the only thing that kept him from being hit by the arrow. D'ogryn steps away from the edge and back into the treeline. His hopes was that the the trees would help provide cover for him from both the archer and the goblins that are closing in on him. He takes his time to put as much obstacles between himself and the archer.

He feels light headed and can feel the shaft biting into his side as he moves. The small amount of blood seeping out and dampening his shirt smells salty as his sense seem to light up.

-8 hps. He is now CRITICAL. -3 penalty on all attacks, saving throws, skill checks, ability checks, AC, and caster level.

I am fine with all that has happened but two things that I may have missed...Why the two stealth rolls for one action. Would they not have checks against my first roll? Did I not have cover or was that only for the goblins on the other side?

THere are two goblins on each side. Both get a perception check. The cover and concealment offer you a bonus for both sets and I factored that in as well. Partial cover and partial conceal.

D'ogryn knows that he has to move quick to close the distance and give the others a chance to engage. He moves to engage both combatants.
attack: 1d20 + 0 - 3 ⇒ (8) + 0 - 3 = 5
He is not one for up close and personal combat, he preferred to be out of harms way. These goblins got a good look at where he was hiding and he knew that that spot would not do him any good anymore.

Round 2
Granting all allies within 10 feet +1 deflection bonus to AC.

The wizard presses his lips into a thin line of disapproval at the chorus of bowstring snaps and whistling arrows from above. They're concentrating all their fire on our contingent above. If I am to protect them, measures will have to be taken.

In a dramatic gesture Soros extends his right arm, palm out with fingers splayed wide, and spins his hand at the wrist. "Clypeus magicae!" he shouts, summoning an invisible shield of force.

"Pathetic goblins, be warned - you risk the wrath of Soros Sull, servant of Boccob!" His voice rings imperiously throughout the canyon, as loud as he can make it.

Standard: casting shield; Move: none; Swift: none; Free: shouting.

The two goblins D'ogryn rushes out on jump back and are completely startled as they were fixed on the olf in front of them. Neither expected to have the young man coming out of the brush as he burst out from behind several small bushes and a tall sapling. Neither seems prepared to fight up close as both were in the process of giggling and laughing at the predicament Rabalar was in. Although D'ogryn misses with an arcing slice on the nearby goblin it was enough to rattle both goblins as they realize this was no longer ranged combat.

The farthest goblin screeches and looks ready to bolt.

Seeing D'Ogryn moving ahead, Edan paced over to assist Rabalar, doing his best to remain clear of the cloud that had incapacitated him. A minor use of magic caused water to spray from his hands, covering Rabalar, and hopefully preventing the cloud from traveling further.

Create Water used. If possible could it come out as a sprayed mist? I'm not trying to drench Rabalar specifically, but deter the cloud.

Round 2 - RP

The wizard glances up at the goblin's screech, alert for any incoming arrows.

Edan moves towards his friend Rabalar and casts his spell calling on his God in his time of need. Edan quickly adjusts the spell holding his hands like a closed and facing his thumbs towards Rabalar's face causing a mist of water to spray out clearing the cloud as the weight of the mist breaks up the cloud. Rabalar pushes his face into the mist and wipes his eyes has he blows out streams of snot and mucus filled with the pollen. The water helps to clear it but he winces a few times due to the arrow still lodged in his shoulder.

The spell is actually very flexible in how the contents can be dispersed so this was a very smart move. Rabalar is no longer STUNNED. Great use of the spell!

Looks like the 3 goblins on the east bank are 10 ft up from water, is that right?

The dolphin rapid fires towards the nearest goblin on the east bank, backflipping insanely out of the water as its nose glows with celestial energies, smiting the dastardly ambusher before dematerializing in a burst of dry leaves.
