As Ferona mentions deciding she needs to get better prepared, the ranger tries to help, but ends up sounding like he's showing off. "You really want two skins of water. Every day. If you know the supply is in question, you can ration for a while, but your body needs more water than you think it does. Dried meats, nuts, hard cheeses, and sealed dried fruits are light and will store for longer periods, unless you plan on having these rations be your main diet? Of course, that sort of diet increases your water need. That's why we are taught to forage and hunt as we travel. Too much dried trail rations and things may . . . stop for a bit. That's bad, too."

I just had to!

Male human (Oeridian) Cleric of St. Cuthbert;

Peran politely listens to Nan and helps to retrieve the net.

Sorry for the brief post, but this is the 3rd time I have tried to post and unfortunately got frustrated in losing my post!!

Ferona listens to the Olf's words carefully here, digesting them and storing them for later. "Wise words indeed. Now that you mention it the last time I had the hard tack, which would have been on my voyage to Saltmarsh, I did feel the...after effects of that meal. Some wine helped alleviate the situation, as I recall." She gives him a reassuring smile, "Feel free to offer your words Rabalar. Trust me they are truly appreciated!"

With a little heaving, some cursing and lots of dust Naia and Peran retrieve the footlocker. And there, amongst a jumble of other strange and exotic weapons, lies the net. Naia gingerly removes it, handing it fold after loop to Peran. She stares at the other weapons for a second, shakes her head and closes the lid. The task is reversed, and the footlocker safely stowed, ready for a future Temlow, friend or lucky thief.

”Well, netman. After you...” Naia says with a wry smile, looking at Peran. She crouches down and begins to examine the relic.

"Sometimes what you forage and hunt are your only options for food anyway" - Grond adds as Rabalar and Ferona discuss provisions - "Well met again, I am Grond" - the half-orc adds, staring perhaps for just a moment too long at the woman's reddish blond hair.

Then he methodically continues going through the shop and retrieving the gear he had been looking for - "This establishment is very well provisioned" - he nods in appreciation of the owner, which is certainly observing him.

Berian's Supplies

The young man comes from around the counter. He was helping a farmer and had just finished the transaction with him when the first group walked in. As the second group walked in and he recognized them from all the stories being told he smiled.

He wipes his hands on his apron. He is not a small man and could easily fill a suit of armor if he liked. "Thank you! We try our best to keep any goods that would be needed. Even adventurers like yourself but sad to say we don't keep as many items for you as we do fisherman and farmers." He doesn't seem put off by Grond in the least. Listening to the various conversations he points to the waterskins and canteens hanging on the wall in a corner. "We have four or five waterskins and maybe six or seven canteens. All new and in good shape. My father insists on testing them so they have been filled with water to check for leaks and emptied and allowed to dry. We also have rations, and a good variety as well, if you need them. We have common trail rations, Halfling rations and Wandermeal rations that we purchased from the family that just left. They always sell us a fine assortment of rations each time they come. Although, a good portion of them were recently purchased...nearly half of our stock along with a few barrels of our Honey Mead. But we got two nice barrels of wine in trade and some of that nice silk over there that my father is working on selling. We were hoping Direcroft would purchase it but he didn't seem interested in it said he had a good stock of silk." It is obvious that Bernot likes to talk. "How is Naia doing? I was hoping she would come by. I was sorry to hear about Zove and wished to offer my condolences. She will be missed. My father and I plan to attend her funeral service."

Narciso joins Grond by the counter. "Naia? She's well. I think she was looking for something. Not sure though. I need a simple lantern, preferably sturdy in case it gets bumped against something. Wouldn't do if it cracked open and burnt up all of the oil left in it in a flash. And a couple of flasks of fuel, and a fire starter to light it. I don't see in the dark as well as my big friend here!"

Bernot - Berain's Supplies

He turns to Narciso. "That is good hear. I am Bernot and I am the son of Berian who owns this store." He looks around for a moment and then walks to a set of shelves. "Follow me." He gets to the shevles and you can see several different kinds of lanterns. "We have a few kinds due to the needs of the sailors and fishermen." Then points to several in order. "We have the more common Hooded Lantern which we normally sell at 7gp but for you and your team I will sell it for 5gp. The Bullseye Lantern, which many sailors use on their ships to spots things in the water, and is 12gp but I will sell it to you for 10gp. It is more useful in casting light down a distance instead of lighting up the area you are in like the Hooded Lantern. We also have Miner's Lanterns which are useful if you need both your hands and we sell them for 15gp but I can sell them for 12gp to you. We also have waterproof versions of them which is an additional 3gp. I also have torches (ready to use) as well and will sell them for a 10% discount. I also have five or six sunrods if you like alchemical lighting but they are in short supply and are being sold at 5gp each and only last six hours or so. If your group buys three lanterns or more I will throw in 1 flask of oil for each lantern and I will sell you any additional pints two for 16 coppers."

He turns to the rest of the group. "What else do you need and I will pull the provisions for you."

THe three of you never had time to inspect the bodies of I remember correctly. A pouch was handed to you of the belongings of the 3 dead men along with what was left of their weapons for you to see. The weapons were as you expected...cutlass and daggers with signs of salt marks but well taken care of. Each pouch had a mix of silver and copper coins from all over (total - 39 copper and 14 silver) You also found 9 gold coins all Keoish and a mix of new to five years old. You also have a silver earring, a gold earring, two copper bracelets, and 1 silver arm band. Need appraise to figure the value. Walthas told you it was all yours to do with since they attacked you.

As the man mentions Zove, Rab's jaw clenches, but he doesn't reply. Keeps him from commenting in response to the question after Naia, too.

"I need to replace my rope, and I was hoping Grond here would carry some as well. Otherwise, I think I'm okay, for now." He seems more formal, more curt, than he did when speaking just moments ago.

Grond nods at both Narciso and Rabalar as they refer to him, then turns back to the man, satisfied he did not have any exaggerated reactions to his heritage - "Well met Bernot, son of Berian - I am Grond" - he adds - "I have a long shopping list, but it seems I am in the correct place - lets see... I need a Bedroll and a Winter blanket. A coil of rope obviously, plus a backpack, two of those waterskins and a week's worth of trail rations..." - he pauses, looking around and picking up a crowbar - "I am taking one of these, a bandoleer and a grappling hook"

With another short pause to ponder, he asks - "Do you sell any weaponry Master Bernot? I am looking for a sling and a dagger as mine was damaged on the last outing... Last but not least, I am looking for writing implements as in ink, quill and perhaps some scrolls, and I think I will take some of that wine also" - the half-orc smiles - "Lets say a bottle. And perhaps the strangest item of all I am looking for - do you trade in wrist sheathes?"

Has Narciso looks at the selection he turns to Grond and listens to the half-orc as he gives his list. "Thank you Grond and it is good to meet you as well. Any friend of Naia's is a friend of our store. As you may well guess we like long shopping list!" He smiles and as you go down your list he turns and starts to pull the items for you.

He goes to the bedrolls and looks at several and finally pulls one. "This will fit you best and here is a winter blanket." He unfolds both and shows you and as you nod to confirm you are ok with them he then places the winter blanket inside the bedroll and rolls it up and straps it and then hands it to you. He then grabs a coil of hemp rope, a backpack, two waterskins, and he grabs 7 days of trail rations. He also grabs a grappling hook but as he goes to a shelf near some weapons he notices he doesn't have bandoleers.
"I don't have any currently but I will get with our leather workers in town and make sure I get some stock in for you at a later date. Our last one was purchased a few days ago." He walks over to the countertop and lays it all out."This would all cost a little over twelve gold pieces...twelve gold and three silver but as I said I will discount this for you to ten gold pieces."

Bernot grabs another coil of rope and brings it up to the counter for Rabalar. He lays it out and realizing he might have offended the olf he smiles and says:"I have better rope if you need it master Rabalar but this is good hemp rope and would be suitable for most purposes. Is there anything else you need? It will be eight silver pieces. Not sure if you have one but a nice whetstone would make those arrow heads sharper for you."

Soros

He decides to make his way to Berian's Supplies since that were everyone is heading except for D'ogryn and Naia as well as their new member Peran. Hopefully Naia found what she was looking for...

He makes his way up to Berian's keeping an eye out for anyone following him or watching him.

Perception 1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Perception 2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Perception 3: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23

He walks up to the porch of Berain's and looks inside the window. Rabalar and Grond seem to be talking to Bernot. As Narciso talks to the other two new companions...Ferona and Antas...he thought. Ferona is interesting and I would love to sit down and talk to her for a time.

He opens the door and walks in and puts his gear down by the door. Bernot turns and sees Soros coming in acknowledges him quickly. Bernot tells Soros "Good Morning! Feel free to look around and if you need any help please let me know."

Bernot snaps his fingers. "Master Grond I forgot your other items. I am sorry give me one moment." He walks over to a weapons rack and a barrel and on a shelf he grabs what looks like a leather cord but has he unwinds it you can see it is a sling he then grabs a pouch. He looks back at you and then picks up several daggers and decides on bringing back three. He lays them on the table two daggers are man made and Keoish...the other is Dwarven made. He then grabs the writing material you are asking for. "Master Grond, the ink is rather expensive as is the journal but I can give you a discount on all the items you are purchasing for total of twenty six gold pieces all together. It would normally cost you thirty gold, five silver, and four copper. That is just a bit more than the 10% discount I promised." He looks at the daggers. "I didn't include the daggers but I if you choose the Keoish Dagger I can give one of them to you for 18sp or the Dwarven for 25sp."

Narciso looks over the options for the lanterns. The miner's lanterns look like they might be fun.... but he finally decides to keep it simple. "I'm only buying for me, and hopefully I won't need it long. I just need to light up a dark area, not spotlight, so just a hooded lantern and two flasks of oil should be fine. Oh, and I'll need flint and steel to light it."

"Hmm, my weapons could use a bit of work now and then too. Maybe I could use a small whet stone. I don't have a huge blade like my friend here. Just the points of my rapier, javelin and some darts...."

Bernot finished with Ferona and nods to Antas' request. Master Di Santos I am not going to be able to fill all of this request. Some of this is beyond our supplies. He grabs two whetstones and hands one to Rabalar and one to Antas. "This is on the house Master Di Santos."

Bernot turns and walks to another shelf behind the counter. Grabs a flint and steel and walks to the back and then back to the counter.

"I only have two folding cots but these cots are nearly 30lbs each. So unless you plan on getting a horse, a cart, or a mule, I would not bother getting the cots as they will be a burden to carry." He turns to the back and points. "They are 1gp each but I can let them be sold to you for 15 sp each. But you will really need something to carry all this stuff you are buying. If you have gems, precious metal, or jewelry I will look at it and if it is something I can sell myself I will buy it. What do you have for me?" Bernot snaps his fingers.

Grond offers a toothy smile, satisfied with the man's attitude -"Thank you for your service Master Bernot, I will make sure to recommend it to any who might inquire" - he nods - "I will take the dwarven dagger - their workmanship is hard to rival" - the half-orc adds, placing a total of forty gold pieces as payment - "Let's just leave it at that"

Bernot

He turns to Ferona. "One moment Mistress Ferona." He turns to Grond. "You are most welcome master Grond. I wish you much success. All of you. Most might not say it but the town appreciates your efforts in these times."

He takes the forty gold pieces and puts them away and finishes wrapping up the supplies for Grond.

He turns to Ferona. "Excuse me for that Mistress Ferona. Let me take a look at what you have." He grabs a cloth and a jar of something you have not seen and wipes down each piece then dips the cloth in by a fingertip into the salve and then cleans each piece off and wipes them down one more time. He then inspects them closely. "I am sure you realize these are sailor heirlooms. They have value but it is not much. It appears this silver earring is worth 2gp, the gold earring is worth 5gp, the match pair of copper armbands are nice and are worth 12 to 15gp depending on where I you sell these at. The silver arm band is worth 13gp. If you would like me to purchase all of them I would buy them at 21gp as the total value is 32gp. That will allow me to resale them for a profit."

Ferona glances back towards Antas before she nods in reply, "Done. I believe that is a fair price for these heirlooms, as you put it." She nods towards where Antas is still gathering up his purchases, "Please use the proceeds to fund my companion's purchases if you would."

The young man nods and agrees. He turns and pulls the bag out. Bernot pulls out 21gp from the amount that Grond gave him and gives it back to Grond. He then takes the items and places them in a lock box and locks it and puts it away as well.

"Thank you Mistress Ferona for yours and Grond's business. Again I wish you well in your next endeavor which from the looks of it could be dangerous."

I think the cots are too heavy to carry as you say sir, if I might not buy them, and thank you for the whetstone. I appreciate the good deal Antas says with a nod to Ferona.

Make sure everyone deducts the amount you spent from your sheet or update the treasure list.

Soros

As each of his companions, new and old, finish with Bernot he walks around and grabs a few items. He picks a water canteen, a hooded lantern, a couple of flasks of oil. He turns to Bernot as he appears to finish up with Ferona and Antas.

"Bernot, we need a healer's kit as the one we had was depleted during our last venture. Any chance you have one and what it the cost of it?"

Bernot

He turns to Soros and looks over to a shelf. "I do Soros and it is 50gp but I can give it to you for 40gp. That is the best I can do as we only have two or three in stock."

Soros

Soros thinks for a moment as he fiddles with his money pouch. "I can give you 15gp now and if you put the rest on my families tab, but separately, I will cover the rest of the cost when we return. We have additional funds but D'ogryn is not here at the moment and he has those coins. Would that be alright?"

Bernot

He pulls out a ledger and opens it, it has many little tabs, and he seems to review it for a bit.

"Master Soros your father has an account with us and currently there is 45gp on it. I can add the remaining 25gp but it will cost 3cp a month until the balance is paid in full. Currently your family is paying 5cp a month on this current balance."

He notes it and Soros passes the 15gp on to him and he counts it out and places it in the box and puts both away.

Soros grabs the kit and puts it in his pack.

The olf looks shocked. "You would put our lives on a tab? I don't have much, but I'll give you what I have until D'og shares the rest. You used up the last kit working to save Thout's life! The replacement should come out of the proceeds D'og's got, I think, if there's enough, anyway." He pulls out his purse and makes it go even thinner, plucking his remaining gold from it. "It isn't much, but it is what I had left."

He hands 8 more small coins over to Bernot.

I had adjusted my gold back when I first made the post saying I was going to get another coil of rope. Guess I need to do so again, now, hunh?

Soros

He looks at Rabalar. "No Edan did and I was part of using it up. I am simply getting another kit as we used the other one up between me and Thout and I figured I would cover the cost of it since I probably used up a good bit of it." He looks a little hurt but seems to appreciate Rabalar putting in the coins.

Soros owes 17gp and 2 cp a month until it is paid.

Meh. So the player forgets who did what when. I am bad about that in short face-to-face games, too! The idea that the medkit is going to be used to keep everybody up and going stands.

I didn't even consider that...just playing Soros out. If you recall he was pretty much was throwing a fit so this is his is way of trying to make amends with what he thinks he did wrong :) Goodwiki set him up to be arrogant but loyal to his family and friends. So I more or less have him playing that way.

Waiting on D'ogryn to make his next moves as this will need to play out a bit with the situation in his room.

Yep, I’m waiting on whether Peran wants to add anything before moving on to provision myself/us from the Temlow dried fish/bread stocks. ;)

"I believe Miss Ferona meant the purchases carried out by our companion Antas..." - Grond chuckles.

Ferona, ifn it is alright with you, and ifn Grond does nae mind, please pay as much of the tab owed by our new friend Soros as I agree that no tab should hold an honorable family such. Antas says with kindness in his eyes easily seen
