Nexus of a side adventure
As promised when I recruited Rise of the Runelords, I promised side adventures. In reading through the supplement, City of Magnimar, there was this curious reference:
N3. Kaijitsu Villa: For a time, the Kaijitsus were the newest aristocrats of Magnimar, yet after a disastrous storm resulted in the death of the family’s leader in 4687 ar, the Kaijitsus have increasingly focused their attention on their interests in Sandpoint, leaving this villa to slowly fall into disrepair. Magnimar’s nobility have been pushing to force the Kaijitsus to either return to care for the property or to abandon their claim to it, citing rumors that “undesirables” have been squatting in the villa as their primary concern. Yet to date the villa remains in its semi-abandoned state.
The next step was simply to find some "undesirables." The party does not yet really know this, but Magnimar will become more of a base. Sandpoint, though ideal at low level, is too small to support a higher level party. So if Magnimar is to become a base, then what better base than a prominent Estate just a few villas down from the Estate of the Lord Mayor. It is a far better abode than the Foxglove Townhouse. By the way, where is that again?

Garrath Tricks the Giants |

He was at 8 hp with rage up before Stone channeled that last channel. With superstitious up, he saved vs the heal so took 1/2, which put him at 13 hp, rage went down, which dropped 12 hp.

Brandark Plainswalker |

You ended up cutting that close Garrath. :)

Kelvin Fleetwood |

GM Mazra and all,
I am going to drop out of this PbP, in fact I am dropping out of both of the PbP that I am a PC in. I intend to keep GM the three that I run, but I am just not into being a player anymore.
Good luck and good gaming to all,
-- david (aka Kelvin)
ps. DM, please uncheck my main ID and my character ID from being active.

Brandark Plainswalker |

Good luck Kelvin, and sorry to see you go. :(
Yes, we should have a rogue/skill character

GM Mazra |

This is a response to Elektra's post in the Gameplay thread:
It is sad but true that French Police is likely combing through photos, surveillance cameras, etc. It is horrible what is happening in Paris. It brings back the memory of 9/11 to me. And though I believe that another 9/11 would be difficult, every city in the world is vulnerable to attacks like the ones that struck Paris last night. The whole of Western Society is under attack.

Brandark Plainswalker |

Mazra, every city which has civil liberties is vulnerable to attacks like that.
Which, I hate to say, means that all cities in the western world are vulnerable.
Yes, it was a horrible attack, and I agree, this was an attack on our society.

Garrath Tricks the Giants |

Sorry to see you go Kelvin, good luck on what you choose to do.
A skill monkey would be good ;).
Agreed on Paris too. I was shocked, and saddened. What Brandark says is also true, those societies that have freedoms will be open to this type of thing simply because they have freedoms. But, nothing galvanizes those societies as much as things like this do. Not only does it galvanize the place that it happens, but all the societies that are like minded.

Elektra Stardancer |

Well I was raised 5 minutes to the french border. I spent many a morning in Paris as a young man, when we thought it would be cool to breakfast in Paris. I was on my first honeymoon in Paris, and on the first trip with my new wive and her son. I also worked for a time in Paris.
I do know the country and their people well. And I know if they think they can break the spirit parisienne with this little attacks, they have never understood the french and the people from paris. And I say little, because the french and the people from paris have endured like very few people in their history. The romans could not break them, the english not, they themselfes not, nor the nazis.

GM Mazra |

I agree that the French have great resolve. They are the United States oldest ally. But in the US, passisism is in rule. I hope the same is not true for the French. I was glad to see the French President call it an "Act of War." The US President still sees it as a "Criminal Act", something where people can be brought before courts.

Brandark Plainswalker |

I just wish the political leaders would call a spade a spade. It is an act of war. How to respond though, should be thought of instead of a knee jerk reaction.

Brandark Plainswalker |

Stone, carrying this on here instead of in the game thread.
I tend to leave things on the treasure sheet for a couple of days, to allow people a chance to claim things.
The only exception will be with new people, in which they will get things from the point that they join us, but I try to be as fair as possible.
As for claiming things, People whom claim things will get first crack at them, but if they are more suited for someone else they will get it.
As an example, your scimitar, if garrath had wanted it, I still would have given it to you, as you were more suited for it. :)
If there comes an argument over who should get something, I will defer to the group as to whom should get an item, and it will go to a group decision. As for the group, decision, all it will take is a second person saying that this item should go somewhere else, and I will leave it up to the group.
This is to reduce in party strife.
As there are 8 shields, there is not going to be a problem with you getting one of them :)
I will update the treasure sheet tomorrow to account for you grabbing one of them.

Garrath Tricks the Giants |

How big are the Chakram? Depending on their size, Garrath will take a couple, or just one.

Elektra Stardancer |

You ever played Frisbee? Chakram

Brandark Plainswalker |

How many did you want Garrath ?

Flynn Elric |

Sup people, dropping in to say hello and nice to be on the team.

Brandark Plainswalker |

Congrats, and welcome

Garrath Tricks the Giants |

Welcome!
Brandark, 2 of the Chakram would be great.

Garrath Tricks the Giants |

How much are we healing overnight? The normal 6/night?

Brandark Plainswalker |

Garrath, Allocated, consider 2 of them yours. :)
As for the healing, unless Stone decides to throw some more our way, it should be level per night.

Brandark Plainswalker |

Ok for sale
War Razor +1
Rapiers Mwk x 8
Chakrams Mwk x6
Leather Armour +1
Light Wooden Shields x 7 (+1)
Studded Leather x8 (+1)
Ring of Jumping
Wand of Produce Flame
Wand of Tree Shape
Painting
All the gems that were found
If anyone has any objections or additions from the treasure, let me know.

Brandark Plainswalker |

Stone, I already allocated one to you

Garrath Tricks the Giants |

would there be any issue if Garrath sold the +1 Bastard Sword, and then used that money plus his own to get his Greatsword enchanted?

GM Mazra |

That works.
At the Bazaar of Sails you will find that the trading is amazingly fair. However, there is a 20% chance that you will not find what you are looking for when seeking any magic item below CL8. Make this roll first. Any Magic Items over CL8 you will need to ask.
At the Bazaar of Sails it is 50% book value to sell. Book value to buy.
A DC20 Diplomacy check gives you a 5% discount in the Bazaar of Sails, either way, per item checked.
A DC25 Diplomacy check gives you a 10% discount in the Bazaar of Sails, either way, per item checked.
Other shops below the cleft are 10% higher than book. The advantage is more stable inventory with only a 5% chance of a shop not having the item.
Shops above the cleft are 20% more expensive. Their advantage is in the safety and security. Those caught stealing above the cleft often go to the Hells without a trial. Those put in the Hells seldom return.

Brandark Plainswalker |

Garrath, I have no issues with that, I doubt the others would as well.
Was thinking something like that with the longsword that I carry, to enchant my axe.

Elektra Stardancer |

same. I want you to have a good, no a great weapon. Although Elektra would advice a falchion, a friend of hers, also someone with anger issues, is incredibly devastating with that weapon.

Brandark Plainswalker |

GM, can I handwave the sales, as it seems no one had any issues with the list that I put up.
Assume the sales will be done in the Bazaar of Sails.

Brandark Plainswalker |

In that case I think we can RP the visit to the sails, as there are some purchases that I know I would like, and Garrath would do. :)

Garrath Tricks the Giants |

I got in-lawed this weekend. In law came for Thanksgiving, and then stayed a day or two later than expected...

Elektra Stardancer |

More or less same here. We had the christianing of our baby daughter.
And I don not go well with my in-laws. Non at all. Marxist rednecks vs capitalistic white collar. Luckily I had the mother of all flus and could stay in my little room upstairs.
