Mirabella Lindenbrook |
I've removed the black square and taken the liberty of moving everyone inside. We won't quite fit, but I assume we can squeeze together.
When she is certain that the entire group is inside the cramped hallway, Mirabella uses her magic vestment to cast the detect thoughts spell from her scroll without expending it. Motioning for the others to stay calm, she spends several moments moving between the three doors in the hallway, concentrating at each one in turn.
Scanning for sentient minds and picking up any surface thoughts.
Jesper Roland Sørensen |
I've colored each of the rooms so you know which I speak of before opening any doors.
Red room
Mirabella detects the pressence of five people in this room, she doesn't pick up and surface thoughts. Since this should be the guards quarters they minds inside are likely fast asleep.
Yellow room
Mirabella doesn't sense anything from this room.
Green room
Mirabella senses a single mind inside and picks up a irritation with a inspection being carried out now of all times.
Mirabella Lindenbrook |
Very quietly, Mirabella relays what she learns through her spell.
"Can we lock these doors Red and the door to the battlement? That will buy us some time if the sound of combat alerts the guards."
Once her spell expires, she prepares to cast haste and begin her inspirational song as soon as the entire group is ready to begin the assault on the commander's office.
Canacha Bais |
"i think i can use a pick and well jam the lock... but we wont be able to get in the room if we need to either...
She whispered back to mirabellas plan... this sneaking about wasnt as easy as she thought it might have been.
Mirabella Lindenbrook |
"Jamming the locks or spiking the doors could both work, provided we can do it quickly and quietly. We do not want to alert the commander to our presence or wake the sleeping soldiers. And Canacha is right, we may want to open those doors in a hurry ourselves."
I guess we should just do a quick pre-buff and get going.
Logan Tanessen |
Logan will do the buffing I posted previously. So he's pretty much ready to go!
Jack Duncloak |
Jack pulls out a pinch of dirt from a pocket and chants a quick spell while rubbing it lightly against each leg of his pants. "Ready!" he whispers to the others, giving Canacha's hand a quick squeeze.
Jack suddenly remembers that he has spells and casts longstrider on himself.
One last thing: Jack's Initiative modifier is only +3, as he's outside of Kintargo.
Jesper Roland Sørensen |
Initiative Jack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Initiative Logan: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Initiative Mirabella: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Initiative Canacha: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Initiative Bicks: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Initiative Thrune: 1d20 ⇒ 8
As you open the door into the Lucians room, you see the commander standing ready in his full plate armor and a greatsword on his back. "I suppose you are the rumors inspection team. I knew something was up since I didn't get a telepatic message about such events from the Lord Mayor. Come let me beat you upstarts, so that I can join the fight against the crusaders instead."
Party surprise round.
Canacha,Bicks, Mirabella, Jack
Lucian
Logan
Jack Duncloak |
Jack takes a moment to use his hunter's bond (companions) ability to grant his fellow "upstarts" an extra boon against Lucian Thrune. Then he uses a second move action to engage the enemy, attempting to draw any attack of opportunity the commander may have to spare his friends a potential wound. Jack banters a bit as he moves in. "Telepathic message? Now that's impressive! Maybe Barzillai has more gray matter inside that big, ugly head of his than we gave him credit for!"
Jack scoots into the corner, keeping secret from the commander that he and his allies are hasted.
Haste Effects This Round: +1 dodge bonus to AC and Reflex saves.
Hunter's Bond: Grants half his favored enemy bonus against a single target of the appropriate type (in this case, Lucian Thrune). +2 bonus on weapon attack and damage rolls; +2 bonus on Bluff, Knowledge (local), Perception, Sense Motive, and Survival checks against Lucian; duration--1 round only!
Mirabella Lindenbrook |
Still singing her inspirational song, Mirabella slips through the door and into the far corner opposite Lucien.
"You will soon leave this post, that much is true. When you get to Hell, prepare to be laughed at for being defeated by a halfling and her friends before the eternal punishment for your failure begins," she taunts.
Demoralize using Taunt (+2 from Hunter's Bond): 1d20 + 18 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 18 + 2 = 25 vs DC of 10 + Lucien's Hit dice + Wis modifier
Canacha Bais |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
right before the door opened she palmed her mutagen taking deep almost hyperventilating breathes until jack squeezed her hand.... She nodded softly squeezing back as she lifted the strange liquid up to her lips and tilt her head back...Her skin grew even paler as her eyes lengthened and her irises turned dark. Her fangs grew even more pronoucnced adn hse arms lengthened slightly her fingers and nails both growing out. She let out a gasp and an eerie giggle as she drew her rifle to her shoulder taking aim... and firing.

"DIE DIE DIE Thrune DOG!
Her voice came out a eerie high pitched almost ethereal growl
Mirabella Lindenbrook |
Oh my God…the quarterback is toast! Great shot, Canacha! If I’m not mistaken, that a brutal 93 hp of damage from one attack. And have you remembered to include the bonuses from Inspire Courage and Jack’s Hunter’s Bond (+4/+4 total)?
From her position in the corner, Mirabella marvels at Canacha’s expert marksmanship. For a second, she almost feels sorry for Lucien Thrune. Almost.
Canacha Bais |
the crit hit would be 51 bullet damage and 26 acid damage from the crit shot and 16 bullet 5 acid from the first round so grand total of 62 bullet damage and 34 acid damage i think. The acid is part of the rolled damage
WAIT! I didnt add jacks bonuses to that shot That will be another 10 points of damage! AND A 25 TPUCH CONFIRM ROLL
Mirabella Lindenbrook |
I’d say that’s a good chance we’re looking at an insta-kill. A headshot crit from a Plasma Rifle in Fallout comes to mind.
Jesper Roland Sørensen |
Lucian Thrune is bleeding heavily but somehow manages to remain standing if just barely able to hold himself together. 103/103 damage, he is gonna keel over from a small gust.
Jack Duncloak |

Spit on him, Bicks! Or maybe fart in his general direction!
Jesper Roland Sørensen |
Bicks attack drains the last resistance from Lucian's body making him fall over. As you enter the room Jack notices the walls behind the command is slightly ajar. It looks like Lucian might have just come through that door after returning to the fortres.
Jack Duncloak |
Jack alerts the others to the partially open door. "Shall I push it open with the tip of one of my blades?" he asks, seemingly to Mirabella and Bicks, in case they have a magical alternative.
Logan Tanessen |
Logan stared open mouthed at Canacha and whispered, "Damn. He went down like a sack of..."
When Jack suggested opening the door, Logan took up position and nodded.
Mirabella Lindenbrook |
Breathing a sigh of relief to see the commander brought down so swiftly, Mirabella uses her magic to swing open the hidden door, then scans the room and dead body for magic auras.
”Thrune’s death should have released Zorumar from his binding. But those gunshots are likely to have alerted the soldiers outside. We must make our way back to the kitchen swiftly. Zorumar mentioned Lucien was out riding his wyvern, so there’s a good chance that passage leads to the wyvern stable. We can either go that way or take our chances against the soldiers.”
She looks around the room for chests and other sources of magic.
”We should move while our haste lasts, but let’s invest the time to grab anything that might be useful. After all, we plan to bury this whole keep under tons of rubble, so we won’t get the chance to go back after it.”
Mage hand, then a couple of rounds guiding the rest of the party to the most valuable loot via detect magic.
Canacha Bais |
Despite being deep in the thralls of her mutagen and notably a bit more bloodthirsty the petite dhampier was spooked. a simple pull and the man once haughty and threatening was a corpse. She reloaded her rifle and used her nervous energy to go to the corpse of the man... rifling through his pockets... removing everything from him but his small cloths.
Jack Duncloak |
Jack also immediately starts searching for anything of value: magic items, sure, but also any documentation or personal notes that may one day prove useful.
To save some time, I'll also roll Perception and Disable Device checks in case Jack finds a locked drawer or compartment.
Jack Duncloak Perception Check: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (9) + 15 = 24
Jack Duncloak Perception Check (find traps): 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (4) + 17 = 21
Jack Duncloak Disable Device Check: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23
Jesper Roland Sørensen |
Are you looting Thrune?
Jack looks around and spots a trunk that contains quite a bit of items.
The trunk is not locked and it contains eight fine noble’s outfits, a crate of eight bottles of magnificent brandy, a bottle of scent in the shape of a naked woman, a superb cup made of silver and gold with platinum studding, and a carved wooden wyvern on a tin stand inscribed “To Luci, with love.”
mwk full plate, +1 flaming greatsword, iron and silver bracelet set with small opals depicting devils being eaten by bloated dolls, long dark cloak set with black peacock feathers, soft leather scissor case containing scissors depicting a lewdly posed gnome, small vanity mirror painted with angels, silver-rimmed reading spectacles in an iron case, and an iron key.
Jack Duncloak |
Jack ignores the noble outfits but loots everything else, removing the bottles of brandy from the crate to hand individually amongst the party. He snorts (almost Canacha-style) as he stifles a laugh upon seeing Thrune's pet name on the wooden wyvern.

While the you are looting Thrune's bedchambers you listen for the sound of alarm or footsteps, the alarm hasn't been raised so far. But there are some movement on the battlement outside might be the guards heard something strange.
Mirabella Lindenbrook |
Mirabella helps Jack quickly store the most valuable items in her magical haversack. Then she pauses to listen to the movement outside.
”We need to move. I say we avoid the secret passage, since we don’t know where it leads. And returning to the battlement is likely to trigger combat in the open, which will alert the rest of the keep for sure. So, lets go through the door opposite this room and make our way back to the kitchen. We should be able to quickly overpower any human guards we encounter”
Jack Duncloak |
Jack gives Mirabella a nod and offers to carry any loot that doesn't fit in the halfling's haversack. Then he scoots over to the other door and checks it for traps.
Jack Duncloak Perception Check (find traps): 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (9) + 17 = 26
Logan Tanessen |
Assuming Jack finds nothing.
Logan nods at Jack and gingerly opens the door and steps through! He then strains to hear if anything is coming.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Jesper Roland Sørensen |
There is no traps, but I'd like to know which door you are checking. The red or yellow colored room?
Logan Tanessen |
Miri suggested 'So, lets go through the door opposite this room and make our way back to the kitchen'. I think that means going west into the red room?
Jesper Roland Sørensen |
Miri suggested 'So, lets go through the door opposite this room and make our way back to the kitchen'. I think that means going west into the red room?
I seem to have missed that one."
Logan as gingerly opens the door you notice a set of six none-too-comfortable-looking double bunks fill this room. Numerous footlockers sit at the base of each bunk—nearly two dozen in all. There are five guards in here in various states of waking up, they might have heard the shooting but none are fully in their armors.
Jack Duncloak |
"Well...that's unfortunate," Jack drawls. "For all of us, but mainly for them."
@GM: Am I correct in assuming that the guards are human?
Mirabella Lindenbrook |
"Indeed...although a room full of half-naked men does bring back certain fond memories."
Mirabella begins to hum the prelude to one of her favorite operas, then addresses the confused soldiers.
"Gentlemen...Lucien Thrune has been relieved of command...permanently! I strongly suggest surrender."
Begin Inspire Courage, then use Taunt to demoralize the soldier that seems most battle ready
Demoralize using Taunt: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (16) + 18 = 34
Logan Tanessen |
Logan's sword was drawn with miniature lightnings crawling it's length. He underscored Miri's words with a direct threat, "I'll be more than happy to run you through, if you don't!"
Intimidate: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (7) + 16 = 23
Jesper Roland Sørensen |
@Jack, all the guardsmen are human.
Seeing the party entering the room from the side leading to Thrune's quaters the guardsmen surrender quickly. "Please let us retreat to the east back to the chelaxian heartlands." the guards plead for their life.
Canacha Bais |
Canacha stalked amongdst the guardsman wicked intent in her eyes. She paused leaning torwards one and sniffing loudly.
"You in particular smell delectible. Run.... now im hungry."
She bared her already elongated fangs now all the more prominent under the effects of the mutagen.
Mirabella Lindenbrook |
"Not so fast...while these five may have lost their desire to fight, there's still plenty of other soliders and worse around. We don't want this lot heading straight for the armory after they raise the alarm. Up against the wall and don't move." Mirabella orders the surrendering soldiers.
She gestures to the doors leading from the room. "What's beyond these doors?"
While waiting for a response, she casts detect magic and scans both the room and the doors for magic auras.
Jesper Roland Sørensen |
The top door leads toward the kitchen and the bottom door leads to a stairway leading to the main floor. the guards respond to Mirabella being visibly terrified by Canacha.
Mirabella doesn't detect any magic.
Logan Tanessen |
"I think for now we shall have to tie this lot up." remarked Logan, "Of course if they resist... Well I imagine things will go poorly for them."
Logan didn't like killing, but they didn't need to know that.
Not sure mechanically what the best way of tying somebody up is, perhaps. Maybe it's not interesting and can be handwaved?
After the men had been suitably restrained, Logan suggested, "I think the Kitchen first?"
Jesper Roland Sørensen |
I think the best way is having manecles to restrain them otherwise you can do it with a rope where you make a strength check to tie them and they can either use strength or escape artist to get out of the restraints.
Mirabella Lindenbrook |
Let’s just go with the rope then. We don’t have to keep them for long and we don’t have time roaming around looking for manacles. Unless of course Canacha has some stashed away for that special boy-toy fun time.
Mirabella just nods at Logan’s suggestion, not wanting to give the captured soldiers any more information about their plans in case they get free.
Canacha Bais |
Maybe she has some stashed away... but that would be back at base. How much rope do we have?
"you there. one the bed and put you hands agaisnt the headboard...."
Noy unintentionally she almost straddles the soldier tying his wrists apart on the bed. Seeig the opportunity to make her lover blush she couldnt help but quip.
tie check: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (12) - 1 = 11
Look jack.... im getting practice
SHe threw a very obvious wink in case he wasnt paying attention.
one tied!
Jack Duncloak |
"Uh, yeah--right!" Jack replies, initially looking a bit distracted. He quickly regains any lost composure before adding, "No telling how many more enemies we'll have to tie up over the course of the rebellion!"
The ranger sheepishly admits that he carries no rope. Then, with a shrug, he walks over to Canacha and kisses her tenderly on the cheek. As he pulls away with a smile, he whispers, "Remember, love--no names...even if Jack isn't my real one."
Jack Duncloak Bluff Check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17 (Additional +4 vs. humans)
Logan Tanessen |
Logan helped tie the men up, he was rather rougher with them than Canacher was, tying them tightly indeed. He was certain the men wouldn't appreciate this, but it was far better than just killing them.
Str check: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Mirabella Lindenbrook |
While the stronger party members tie up the soldiers, Mirabella conducts a rapid search of their footlockers for useful items.
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29
Jesper, looking at the map, it looks like there is a room to the north that the soldiers failed to mention. Is there a door to that room in this one?
Jesper Roland Sørensen |
Ops that's my bad I missed that door because it was covered. The guard would havd told you it is the war room, where maps and other things needed to formulate tactics and strategies are kept.
Mirabella doesn't find much of value in the footlockers, except in one of them there is a ring hidden fairly well inside it.
