Re the Event's Security check, Pádraig Henry's STR mod is +1 and his WIS mod is +0. Someone else is probably better suited for the skill check.
However, as Sentinel, Pádraig Henry can
aid during all Organization checks attempted to resolve one event during the Event phase.
Aid Another's Security Check, STR mod: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
The Helpful halfling racial trait grants the ally +4 bonus instead of the normal +2.
Roger Schmitt |

Oh I was just going by the security bonus on the rebellion sheet. If I did that in error just apply the proper bonus to my roll. Definitely have the helpful halfer help!

![]() |

I only read the Sentinel's section. Not sure about Victor's applicable stats vis-a-vis his role in the rebellion.

![]() |

Apologies for the delay yesterday and today, I will move us ahead this evening.

![]() |

It probably makes sense for all of us to Take 20 on Disguise checks, whenever time permits. Can we adopt that as a party-wide SOP?

Roger Schmitt |

Is that even possible? I thought disguise checks were technically something the GM was supposed to roll?

![]() |

I think you're right, and I should be rolling them. I will assume going forward that you'll usually attempt to disguise yourselves when in public given that your physical description was made public not long ago.
Regarding this particular rescue mission...
I hadn't expected it at all, though I should have: Of course you'd want to save Octavio after hearing he'd been taken. This isn't specifically described in the adventure. I therefore have been adlibbing most of this and sometimes get the I have no idea what I'm doing feeling. I don't expect to be anywhere as skilled at story writing as the scenario authors, but I'm trying and I'm also trying to include other NPCs, named groups and such in the mix at the same time. Running an AP has been pretty challenging as the world changes as you're moving through it, requiring a lot of tracking of parallel events and happenings - something not seen in a shorter PFS game. Hope I'm doing alright.

3 people marked this as a favorite. |

You're doing great. The significant effort is appreciated.
Keeping things as simple as possible is the best advice I can offer. A place, some bad guys, a precious cargo to rescue.
And a chest full of platinum pieces...

Morvena Sarini |

I agree; you're doing just fine! And while I can't speak for anyone else, the simple willingness to ad-lib in the first place instead of refusing to alter anything goes a long way in my book, independent of how said effort turns out.

Roger Schmitt |

Oh ya, you're doing great. Always remember: we don't know what's written and what you're adlibbing. So whatever makes sense to the game and works for you works just great for us. An AP like this seems much more '3D' than a standard linear '2D' PFS game.
I also find it hilarious a bunch of spellcasting thugs. I can imagine a LE version of Mr Peppers running the crew from the safety of his arcane hideout.

Issil Tanessen |

Evil Mr. Peppers would have a "NO GNOMES ALLOWED" sign out front.
You could bring in a different encounter from a Pathfinder Scenario designed for level 4 characters if you're pressed for time.
I usually put my disguise checks in spoilers. That extra click is usually enough to discourage me from peeking.

Roger Schmitt |

gnomes welcome... 'evil laugh'... deep spiked pit full of gnome bones.

Morvena Sarini |

Suddenly I am so sad that Nina isn't of appropriate level for a Red Arm Guest Appearance...

Roger Schmitt |

Not so sad! No gnomes allowed. Took Mr Peppers a long time to rid himself of that one gnome already! :)

Geoffrey Piersym |

I think you are doing great GM Red!

![]() |

My understanding re the mechanics is the Disguise check is opposed by a Perception check. Whether we roll them or you roll the Disguise check on our behalf, the GM would roll a Perception check for a NPC to see through the disguise.
But I'm totally okay with whatever makes you comfortable.
I was merely suggesting that given the threat, whenever time and the situation permit, Pádraig Henry would take painstaking care to apply his disguise to the very best of his ability before heading into town or other danger areas. If there were no need to hurry, he wouldn't rush things.

![]() |

Thanks very much for the feedback, guys. I really appreciate it!
I didn't know that about Disguise checks, PH, but it makes sense. I will take back my idea to roll Disguise for you, then, and go with that: you roll disguise, and I'll roll opposed Perception checks behind the virtual screen.

Morvena Sarini |

Padraig has a good point too; we really all should be Taking 20 on Disguise when we can so I'd be happy to adopt that as SOP going forward.

Geoffrey Piersym |

I agree, taking 20 on Disguise checks whenever we can should be SOP.

Morvena Sarini |

Though it shouldn't affect my posting too much, my work schedule has been shifted to solely night shifts in the wake of our one dedicated night shift person quitting unexpectedly. This will probably be what I'm doing for the somewhat-foreseeable-future so you'll be less likely to see posts from me during daylight hours (say, anywhere from about 8-10am up to 5-7pm CST).

![]() |

Is selling the cubic gate an option? 82,000gp would be a nice windfall for the party and the rebellion.
Unless, it's a quest item tied to the story arc.

Geoffrey Piersym |

Sadly I think the only group in Kintargo rich enough to afford the Cube would be House Thrune...sooo I am going to go on a limb and say this is a quest item he he.

Morvena Sarini |

Yeah, I'm not even sure if we could sell it in Kintargo! It kind of seems like an item that might prove oddly useful or relevant further down the line.

Morvena Sarini |

GM, would you allow for the leaving of some spell slots open at the start of each day to be potentially filled in later if time and circumstances allow as per this section of the CRB? One of the reasons I tend to shy away from prepared casters is that I hate having to guess what spells might be handy during a given day and so leaving a slot open per spell level might help Morv be a little more flexible.

![]() |

Oh ya, I'm completely fine with that. I feel the same way about choosing spells on a prepared caster. Go for it.
As for the cube, I apologize, but I just scraped through Book 1 again and found this:
If the malfunctioning cubic gate is deactivated, the cubic gate itself is ruined but is still worth 3,000 gp as a curiosity
The cube was deactivated when you removed it from the museum basement. Still, 3,000 gp is nothing to sneeze at!

Morvena Sarini |

Thanks, GM! And in that case, let's sell the cube! Moneeeeeyyyyyy~

![]() |

Oh yeah! More coin!
Are we doing a time-jump re any ability damage on Victor, or are we proceeding as we are?

![]() |

Well, I dropped us in the shop for any last minute purchases, and then we'll do the time-jump.

Morvena Sarini |

Regarding selling stuff, my 2 copper would be to ditch:
Masterwork Greatsword
Vials of Unholy Water (if one could even find a buyer for these)
Scroll of Inflict Light Wounds
Ring of Swimming (if no one wants)
I'll make another pass through the various scrolls people are holding and see if there's anything else Morv could potentially scribe to her spellbook, a bit later.

Roger Schmitt |

Broken cube of course as well.
Is anyone using that MW heavy mace? Issil is using the +1 heavy mace right? Actually, we can sell off that hand crossbow, I usually just use my acid splash for a ranged option.

Geoffrey Piersym |

Geoffrey has no magical weapons, I thought Issil was using the Magical mace. If so then yeah sell the MW mace.

Roger Schmitt |

Well someone needs to use that +1 heavy mace. Thumb wrestle it out or something!

Geoffrey Piersym |

Well if Geoffrey is going to use the mithral short sword, then he can give Issil his silvered morningstar and take the +1 heavy mace for himself.
Roll a higher d20 to claim it: 1d20 ⇒ 9

![]() |

Apologies for the delay, folks, I'd had a very busy Wednesday. I've got some time now, though, and will update Gameplay.

![]() |

I'm going to wrap up the shopping tedium and move us towards The Lucky Bones soon. I'll also time jump to heal Victor's ability score damage... Let me know if there are any other things you'd like to do before embarking!

Morvena Sarini |

Hey guys, I'm leaving on a trip later today and won't be back until Wednesday afternoon. While I'll have my phone with me and might be able to squeeze in an update Tuesday, don't expect much until I get home. As always, feel free to bot Morvena as necessary.

![]() |

Hey guys! You just hit Level 5 :)
Well, 14,999 XP... But I guess Pug could stomp on a rat for 1 experience point.
Go ahead and Level Up!

Geoffrey Piersym |

Issil Tanessen |

Everything except my feat is decided. A question to the party:
Do you want me to start magically crafting via Craft Magic Arms and Armor or Craft Wondrous Item?
If not I'll put the feat towards magical blasting (either Spell Penetration or Energy Substitution). But you tell me.
Also, GM: When do we actually level up? And what about daily resources? Do we need to rest first?
Another level of Oracle (now 5 Oracle)
Feat: (REMOVE NOTE Choose one of)

Cinder Dance: You receive Nimble Moves as a bonus feat. (TODO Add Nimble Moves description)
Nimble Moves (Oracle Mystery, level 5)
Whenever you move, you may move through 5 feet of difficult terrain each round as if it were normal terrain. This feat allows you to take a 5-foot step into difficult terrain.

Morvena Sarini |

HP +6 (4 + 2 Con)
+6 Skill Points (Kn. Arcana, Kn. Local, Kn. Nobility, Kn. Planes, Kn. Religion, Spellcraft)
Gain 3rd Level spells - 2/day + 1 school
Gain Spells - Create Pit (2nd), Haste (3rd), Summon Monster III (3rd)
Gain Feat - TBD
Pavanna - Gained Feat: Improved Initiative
In response of the crafting discussion, I can start investing in some Crafting feats as well if Issil would rather blast or if she wants to take one feat (MA&A) Morv could take the other (WI). Otherwise, leveling is done besides selecting a feat.

Roger Schmitt |

Ok took Improved Initiative to keep those early sneak attacks rolling and rogue's edge is Stealth, giving me the realistic option to snipe (only -10 vs -20 to the stealth check to snipe)

![]() |

I don't know that there's a hard-and-fast rule on when leveling up actually happens. When I run tables face to face, leveling up takes a while, so I usually only award XP at the end of a session... But this is PbP, and XP gain can be realized immediately since there's more time between posts. I think you can and should level up right away. Let's go in there fresh. The alternative is you'd likely head back to the 'Nail for a rest anyway.
