Morvena Sarini |

^And I'll take Craft Wonderous Items to help share the crafting load a little...since, you know, wizards usually do that and stuff :3

![]() |

Pádraig, can you also give me a Fort save? I always hate rolling PC's saves for them :)

![]() |

Sorry for the delay, folks, I'm out of town for a few days, but still have my laptop with me to get a post in here and there. I'll be back at full speed starting Tuesday.

Morvena Sarini |

No worries GM, safe travels!

Issil Tanessen |

Pádraig, Morvena: We have wands of Hold Person. One of us could try to paralyze Lucella and the other two could hold the cultists.
If Lucella IS held, then we know she isn't a devil.

![]() |

Just waiting on the results of Sense Motive checks.

Roger Schmitt |

I've got some family stuff going on, I'll post when I can but don't hesitate to bot me.

![]() |

I wanted to give everyone a chance to ID things and chime in on next steps too before I update again, but given the time of year, less posting is definitely expected and totally fine. I'll be around most of the holidays and still expect to post frequently (if not more frequently than when I'm working!)

![]() |

PH would like to use the ring of protection +1.

Geoffrey Piersym |

Geoff would lay claim to the Potion of CMW, and also that cloak of resistance +1. His Will save needs some boosting he he

Morvena Sarini |

^Yeah, I have to admit that I've had pretty low desire to PbP the past few days due to being distracted with work and Christmas stuff. I'm working the next two nights and then will probably be incommunicado most of Christmas Day but I'll try to check in and post as I can :)

Roger Schmitt |

Victor would use the +1 chain shirt if Issil isn't interested. He is also desperate for a healing potion of some kind. He's got nil.

Issil Tanessen |

You can take the chain shirt and one of the healing potions, Roger. Issil is willing to sit this out and stockpile more cash.

Roger Schmitt |

Once I get the cash my next purchase is a mithril chain shirt so you'll end up with this shirt sooner than later anyhow.

Morvena Sarini |

Woo, I think I'm finally over the worst of my (figurative) holiday hangover and ready to ease back into regular posting again :)
(I know I said that yesterday but turns out I wasn't quite ready...)

We'll need 3 activities for this week, as always. We are actually on the lower end of your rebellion rank for this part of the adventure. It maxes out at rank 10 for this book, and I'd put us at roughly 70% or so through it at this point.
1. Earn Gold
2. Recruit Supporters
3. Reduce Danger (already at a minimum, but may go up during Upkeep phase that precedes these activities)
4. Refresh Marketplace
5. Gather Information
6. Recruit Team
There are other selections as well. Specific details are located on Page 26-28 of the Hell's Rebels Players Guide.

Roger Schmitt |

I would like to head right over to the candy shoppe for this ingame day, catch any more cultists if we can before we're ousted. But as far as weekly activities my votes are:
Earn Gold
Earn Gold
Recruit Supporters

Geoffrey Piersym |

I'll go along with Victor's suggestion here. Earn gold (x2), Recruit supporters, and check out the candy store.

![]() |

Concur with Victor's recommended courses of action, but wonder about the comparative advantages of recruiting supporters vs more teams. Haven't yet found the answer in the Player's Guide.
Have we reached the maximum number of recruited teams?
(The Natural Born Leader trait treats PH's CHA as 2 higher (18) for determining the number of teams he can manage and for determining the bonus he adds to the teams' actions.)

Morvena Sarini |

I'm also good with Victor's suggestion but I'm curious about Padraig's question too. If it'd be more profitable/productive to look to recruit another team then we should do that instead of recruiting supporters.

![]() |

You've got three special teams right now, and you can recruit up to 4. You've got the two teams of Peddlers (Traders) and one team of Freedom Fighters (Rebels).
You also upgraded the tengu family to Merchants a week or two ago, allowing them to earn more gold. That family (as well as the Order of the Torrent Armigers) do not count against your team totals.
Of the remaining team types, you don't have any Advisors or Outlaws.
There are just tons of rules in this AP, let me know if I can clarify anything!

![]() |

How about Earn Gold, Recruit Supporters, Recruit Team (Advisors)?

Geoffrey Piersym |

I'm OK with that.

Roger Schmitt |

Ya I'd rather we ran another business for more gold. I'm not sure how much we need advisors at this point vs cash.
If we are behind in supporter size we should think about that soon as well.

Geoffrey Piersym |

I have had a family emergency come up. My posting will be sporadic for a while. Please Bot Geoffrey here thanks!

![]() |

Just to clarify the doors. The trap you dispelled blocked Luculla's bedroom, but the sealed doors were further back in the haunted hallway and are still sealed. There's probably a magic spell or two which may knock those doors open...

Morvena Sarini |

Okay, in reviewing the loot list Morvena will claim:
Scroll of Detect Secret Doors
Scroll of Protection from Evil
Scroll of Expeditious Retreat
Scroll of Touch of Idiocy (Padraig)
Scroll of Misdirection (Padraig)
Scroll of Daylight
All of the remaining scrolls that are unclaimed or being held by someone else are spells that don't appear on the sorc/wiz spell list. It also looks like we have two scrolls of Misdirection on the list? If that's the case then we can sell the other unless someone else wants to hang on to it.
I don't believe any of those spells are higher than 3rd level so Morv can just Take 10 on each to scribe them into her spellbook (personal funds permitting).
*edit* At some point during downtime Morvena will also cast Identify to determine the properties of that magical cloak we found.
*edit2: Electric Boogaloo* Whoops, forgot/missed that Silence isn't on the sorc/wiz spell list! Removed that one from my claim list.
*edit3: Revenge of the Edit* Ditto for Glyph of Warding. Apparently I should've slept longer today...
*edit4: This Time It's Personal* Okay, all of the above have been added to Morv's spellbook and the requisite funds for doing so subtracted from her personal cash total.

Issil Tanessen |

We need to keep that Masterwork mace, that's my best weapon right now. Geoffrey got the +1 mace instead.
Also, we never ID'd that Cloak.
Spellcraft, DC 24: 1d20 + 8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 8 + 4 = 16
Spellcraft, DC 24: 1d20 + 8 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 8 + 4 = 26
I assume it's been 2 days since we found it?

![]() |

Moving the discussion over here...
@Padraig: That makes sense to want to see what others have claimed. I recall there being a fight not along ago where you reviewed the sheet and recalled several scrolls we'd had on hand. I'll move out the claimed items to a second sheet rather than wiping them out.
The cloak is a handy dandy cloak of the manta ray.
I'll pause a little bit longer here so we can all get on the same page. I'll save my update for a little later tonight.

![]() |

PH could use the cloak of elvenkind, if no one else wants it. Should help make up some of the difference, since he doesn't have Stealth Synergy.
That would give him a +15 Stealth modifier.
PH picked up the scroll of raise dead. Someone else is welcome to hold onto it instead. PH would like to hang onto any scrolls no one claims. They might prove useful in a future jam. His UMD is only +7. Perhaps someone else has a better modifier.

Roger Schmitt |

Sounds good. Victor will use the manta ray cloak and Padraig the elvenkind?
The manta cloak is just way too awesome if we ever need to do anything underwater. And I'd be pretty surprised if the opportunity didn't present itself with that item being there.

![]() |

I was out and about and didn't get a chance to update today, but I'm off work tomorrow to celebrate being older (because IMHO no one should work on their birthday!), so look for an update morning/afternoonish.

![]() |

Red, you're birthday's tomorrow?! How did I forget/not know that? Mine, too! Happy Birthday, Brother.
54! I don't recognize myself in the mirror anymore. On the inside, I still feel like a goofy teenager, but my carapace is showing more than a little wear and tear. My wife says I act like a 12-year-old.
Larry

Morvena Sarini |

Hey, Happy Birthday you two! Hope you both have a fantabulous day :D

Geoffrey Piersym |

Niiice...I had my birth day a couple of weeks ago so I would say Happy Birthdays all around :D

Oh, wow, happy birthday to you as well, Larry! And a belated one to Eric :)

Roger Schmitt |

Birthdays all around. Victor hands out lots of free candy to everyone. It seems vaguely familiar...

![]() |

I'm tracking 2 of the 3 ghosts have used their howls. If/when the third ghost howls, PH will switch to inspire courage, guys.

![]() |

Guys, I apologize for my absence. Between my birthday Saturday and my wife's birthday today, there have been more than a few pleasant demands on my time.
I ask for your understanding and patience.

![]() |

No problem at all Larry, I'm not about to tell you PbP is more important than your wife's birthday. :)
On that note... I'm home quite late tonight and won't be able to update, but will do my best to squeeze an update in tomorrow afternoon.

Morvena Sarini |

Hey, no worries guys - PbP will be here when the more important stuff is done :)

PH has been feeling like the proverbial Dutch boy with his finger in the dike, offering a little healing to folks doing all the fighting and singing his Countersong.
I looked over the encounter's posts, and I'm a little confused. Did I miss something?
According to PH's Knowledge check in this post, Tormented Howl is a once/day ability as a standard action.
In the same post, Victor’s damage was applied to the blue ghost, and the other two (red and green) howled for the first time.
The red ghost howled again in this post.
Then the red ghost howled a third time in this post.
Green howled a second time in this post.
Unless I missed something, Blue died without howling.
Probably too late to retcon anything, if there was an error. Once PH realized that blue was a goner, and the other two were no longer capable of using their Tormented Howl again, he would have switched from Countersong to Inspire Courage (+2). He would have used his remaining 2 level-1 spells to cast saving finale as an immediate action to permit his companions to re-roll a failed save. Then he would have used a standard action to resume Inspire Courage (+2).
I should have paid closer attention and asked for clarification earlier. Mea culpa.
