@gm: how do you feel about varient multiclassing from Pathfinder Unchained?

Standard multi classing.

Any thoughts on playing a Sin Mage specialist? Seems thematic for the adventure. Any problems plot wise if he's not evil but just has a problem in one area of life?

Or possibly a Elven Spellbinder if not. Anyone know any renowned spellcasters in the area?

@Famfrit,
I'd be one hell of a backstory as to why a Sin Mage would be in the area and willing to help out the town. One I'd be interested in reading.

As for the other, there are no renowned spell casters in the area.

Cleric (Herald Caller) 1: HP 10/10; AC 17, 15, 12; Init +2; Fort +3, Ref +2, Will +4; CMD 15: Perception +2: Channel Energy 5/5; Enlarge 4/5

There are probably some noted spellcasters in Magnimar, at the Golemworks, etc. Not local as such, but the closest City. And the Twilight Academy I mentioned in an earlier post is at least in Varisia.

Vote: Yes for Background Skills.

I'll abstain on background skills it since I don't know what they are or if I'll even use them.

Background Skills quick summary:

Each character gains 2 bonus skill ranks that can only be spent on:

Appraise
Craft
Handle Animal
Knowledge (engineering)
Knowledge (geography)
Knowledge (history)
Knowledge (nobility)
Linguistics
Perform
Profession
Sleight of Hand

You can spend your regular class skills on those too.

Also there are two new skills
Artistry= like a blend of Craft, Perform, and Profession but more abstract creations (musical compositions or philosophy etc)
Lore= like knowledge but more specific topics. (a specific noble House instead of Nobility in general etc)

I vote yes for that

I'm going for a skilled assassin-type character with a life-debt to one of the other characters.

Still toying with builds. Couple of questions:

Would you (GM) be willing to waive the Evil prerequisite of an archetype or Prestige class and allow me to play LN?

Would Ninja be wrong thematically for the game?

What are your 'Paizo Race' limitations?

and who (players) would want a begrudgingly indebted LN assassin? Anyone need a splash of flavor to their backstory?

Cleric (Herald Caller) 1: HP 10/10; AC 17, 15, 12; Init +2; Fort +3, Ref +2, Will +4; CMD 15: Perception +2: Channel Energy 5/5; Enlarge 4/5

@SkaTalon: I would just say make sure you can justify your character staying with the group if whoever you tie them to vanishes/dies, this being PBP attrition is sadly not uncommon.

@Famfrit maybe the http://archivesofnethys.com/PrestigeClassesDisplay.aspx?ItemName=Cyphermage would suit your purposes? Would take until 6th level, but all the prereqs make sense for a character studying Thassilonian magic, and its pretty decent, full spellcasting, 4 skills per level, some of the lore abilities are pretty damn good.

@Elery - Thanks. Good recommendation. I was also taking a hard look at the Runesage as well.

@All players
Anyone from else from Magnimar. Seeing if any other backstories might make sense to be connected with or not.

Still thinking about the build. It has to be a str based one, since the black blade could not be finessable (If it's a longsword I'll be screwed) and in any case, I don't even wanna know or make the gm adapt to my character, so it's going to be made of paper. I hope any of you makes a frontliner or I see myself exploding on the first-second combat of the campaign unless I play defensively.

Oh, and my character is probably coming from the Twilight Academy. He wants to see more world and study more magic, and in an academy he's not going to see much. Ancient ruins about an empire lost to the ages (One that looks like it had great lost knowledge about magic) sounds interesting enough for my magus to travel to Sandpoint (Maybe passing by and grabbing some supplies while enjoying some rest in a festival). How does the idea look?

I've made a lot of exceptions already, not looking to make any more. So let's keep it to the guidelines I've already set down.

As far as Paizo races, what appears in the Advanced Race Guide.

And Background skills have been voted in with an overwhelming yes. 2 days left for your characters. I'm pleased with what I'm seeing.

Male Human Expert 4/ Geodesic Crafter 3

@GM Sphen: thanks for the Update. I'll decide later today.

@SkaTalon - we could try this - you found me, and helped me escape from servitor status to some less than scrupulous magi/traders in exotic items in Magnimar. Somewhere in the escape, I saved you. So the lifedebt goes two ways.

@GM Sphen - would the above background work? If not I'm easy for SkaTalon to work it with someone else.

5d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 1, 5, 2) = 12 x 10 = 120. So min 150 then.

@Oceanshieldwolf, I'm down for it if you guys are. I'll be introducing a good (read generic) way for you guys to introduce more characters if yours die, but feel free to take liberties with the surrounding area. As you may have noticed, I don't anyone to tie to closely to some of the more important dramtis persona, but that is about it.

Cleric (Herald Caller) 1: HP 10/10; AC 17, 15, 12; Init +2; Fort +3, Ref +2, Will +4; CMD 15: Perception +2: Channel Energy 5/5; Enlarge 4/5

Since background skills are in I have added Profession Gardener and Appraise, since she was not actually brewing at the brewery, but working in sales, etc.

Half-Elf Ranger 1 | hp 11/11 | Init 4, Per 12 | AC 17, T 14, FF 13 | Fort 2, Ref 6, Will 2 | longbow 5 (1d6/x3), longsword 3 (1d8+3/19) | Goblinoid +2, PBS

Alright. I pretty much have my character nailed down. Here's the background for you guys. Crunch for this ranger in profile.

Girnt

Character Concept:
-----------------------
Background
-----------------------
Girnt was born a half-elf, between an adventuring man and a young elf. A one-night stand, the elf was left to raise the half-breed among the many disapproving eyes of the elf-kind. Never able to measure up to the standards of the elves, Girnt finally ran away from the place as a young teenager, not willing to stay with his cold people anymore.

After traveling with a few caravans, Girnt finally discovered Sandpoint, a young, sleeply town that didn't discriminate and was surrounded by nature. Girnt decided to make Sandpoint his new home, and his skill at hunting and storytelling helped him settle down quickly.

Much happier surrounded by the warmth of humans, Girnt does his best to help out his new home, from keeping tabs on the nearby goblins to entertaining the kids during his free time. Things have been busy since the construction of the new temple started, but now the festival is right around the corner and the town is bursting with excitement.

-----------------------
Personality
-----------------------
Though Girnt looks stern and silent at first glance, he is actually much more open and forthright with people, a trait the elven people disliked. Girnt is especially expressive when weaving stories for the youngsters in Sandpoint. He seems to have a special touch when it comes to both kids and animals.

Girnt is also a follower of Erastil. First learning of him during his travels before Sandpoint, Girnt enjoyed the teachings of community and family and now does his best to follow them. He believes in hardwork and helping out where possible, while placing the community first. As such, he is very protective of Sandpoint as a whole.

-----------------------
Description
-----------------------
Girnt is lean and tall, his elven blood very evident in his appearance. However, his facial features lack the elven charms and he has his father's face and rough skin. His brown hair is lazily cut at the shoulders, and he wears a cloak and tough clothing for traveling through the wilderness.

-Fire Drake

Male Human Expert 4/ Geodesic Crafter 3

Ok, given the party makeup I'm settling on a melee martial. Going to select the Adamantine Body feat which will give me +8 AC as my in-body armor. With the Warforged's poor Wisdom and Charisma, my more favorite melee Summoner or Inquisitor concepts are out, and also Warpriest and Paladin are out. So the choices are:

* Fighter: feats, feats, feats!
* Cavalier: (Disciple of the Pike, Order TBA): Challenge, and Tactician providing Precise Strike teamwork feat to flanking allies - not so sure if Tactician is that great if flanking opportunities are not abundant
* Slayer: simpler in some ways than Fighter, with more skills

Anybody have any thoughts or options before I either go mad, choose one in a fit of pique or do a RNG 1d3?

Player - Name, Gender/Race/Class (archetype)
Placeholder- Elery Deverin Female Human Cleric of Erastil (Herald Caller) [Sandpoint local]
Zamdoc - ???/???/Magus (Bladebound)
Oceanshieldwolf - Warforged Martial
SkaTalon - Skilled/Assassin type
Fire Drake - Girnt, Male Half-Elf Ranger (ranged) [Sandpoint local]
Famfrit - ???/???/arcane caster

Male Human Expert 4/ Geodesic Crafter 3

Ok, folks never mind. Warforged Fighter it is.

@GM Sphen - are you fine with me dropping Wis and Cha to 8? Thinking of a tortured-soul armored-hulk type who was made for brutal war and heavy laboring - he has a heart of gold but is quite naive in his experience and not great at relating to people socially. Not really what I had in mind initially, but with 10 Intelligence he will at least be able to converse easily enough.

I imagine he was probably a rural farmer before being 'forged...

@Firedrake: This looks good. Fan of Dragonlance Chronicles by chance?
Also, if this is your desired background... well, how familiar are with Rise of the Runelords? Have you played enough to encounter Shaelu?

@Oceanshieldwolf (you really need a nickname, probably going to just start calling you OSWolf if that's cool): You can drop them as low as a 6 if you want, by the RAW. And just to make sure, the Warforged have no memories of previous lives.

@Everyone: It's time to make your final decisions and start the number crunching. I want everyone to follow Elery's example and put the most important details under the name for quick reference (mostly mine). Game will start tomorrow night officially, so if you don't have your character done by then, you'll have to miss the beginning and come in at the next break point. I'll post the actual game rules/expectations/etc tomorrow afternoon.

Cleric (Herald Caller) 1: HP 10/10; AC 17, 15, 12; Init +2; Fort +3, Ref +2, Will +4; CMD 15: Perception +2: Channel Energy 5/5; Enlarge 4/5

@Girnt +12 perception is awesome, you can be our early warning system :) Looks like Elery and Girnt would have interacted quite a bit, and they seem to have broadly similar out looks so I would imagine they are at the very least friendly acquaintances.

Okay. I'm whipping up Snyk, a Ratfolk Unchained Rogue (Knife Master)

@Ocean: How about this? Snyk was contracted to eliminate the merchant that was your former master. After killing him (and inadvertently freeing you) you saved his life during his botched escape. Now in a strange twist of fate, he is honor-bound to be you servant and considers you his master.

I can add more details when I post the statblock.

Well, let's see the monies!

4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 2, 5) = 13 x 10 = 130

Jesus christ I'm poor. Guess it's 150 for everyone :(

GP: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 6, 2) = 15
hey hey 150gp either way.

@GM Sphen: I actually happened upon the main four books in a used book shop a year ago in near perfect condition. Traded in some unneeded books and got them for free. So glad I made that trade.

Also, I've gotten as far the glassworks in RotR, so I'm thinking that Girnt might keep in touch with Shaelu occasionally to help keep tabs on the goblins tribes around Sandpoint.

@Elery: Actually, I was completely surprised when my Perc added up that high. I even triple checked myself. :p Guess racial advantages can give you that edge.

But, yeah, I think Girnt and Elery would know each other, especially in a community as small as Sandpoint when both are Erastil followers.

Backstory and equipment are forthcoming. they'll be up tonight.

Female Human (Varisian) Tattooed Sorcerer 1 [HP:7/7] [AC:12 T:11 FF:10 CMD:11] [Init:+2] [Perc:+6]

@GM: Sorry took so long. I think I lost everything like 3 times, and just got so angry. Let me know what you think.

Backstory:

Raised with a caravan of Varisian troupers, Fela grew up accustomed to always being on the move, always seeing new faces, and always performing, whether on the stage or on the streets. The time was free and fun, and her favorite memories are all of the stories she would hear or be a part of along the way.
One night near the Sanos Forest, an event that Fela was unaware of changed her life entirely. During a wild night by the fire, after she had gone to sleep her father and others began to play their instruments, and they played so well, that they drew Fey from the forest to dance for them. In the passion of the moment, Fela’s father went off with one of them. When he returned, all his belongings were left in a bag by his mother.
Eventually, Fela and mother fought too much without dad to play the peacemaker, and she was sent off to Magnimar to study under a wizard at Golemworks, Inc. The employment proved short lived, as the Fela was far too passionate to study under the iron handed teacher.
But while in Magnimar, she fell in love with the city, the people in it, and even its rich history, ever longing to brand her own story in history that many troupers would tell around a fire, and perhaps even perform in theaters.
For now, she has to make a living, so she’s recently moved to Saindpoint, in attempt to find some work. Fela figures, if she can’t imprint her story on mankind, at least she could brand them with ink.

Female Human (Varisian) Tattooed Sorcerer 1 [HP:7/7] [AC:12 T:11 FF:10 CMD:11] [Init:+2] [Perc:+6]

So who has completed backstories now so far?

Elery, Girnt, Fela, Anyone else?

Male Human Expert 4/ Geodesic Crafter 3

@GM Sphen:

* Ok, I might drop Cha to 6 and either put Wis to 10 or add to something else.

* Yep, no memories of past life. Just putting it out there in case it helped you with ongoing plots.

And OSW is what folks use most. Or Ocean. OSWolf if you like. :)

That is great, particularly that you weren't trying to rescue me, and then got rescued. Harness will likely go on endlessly about you were so kind to rescue him, equally and completely inadvertently doubling up on your "guilt" for having been rescued while trying to escape. Harness is devoted to Snyk, and won't see harm come to him. A bit of Groot methinks...

Backstory is posted on my profile up to the moment that Harness intervenes and saves Snyks life. (sorry if its a little long, I get carried away sometimes) I didn't want to put words into Harness's mouth without giving OSM the opportunity to say what Harness would have done. you can PM me your input or I could finish it myself if you'd prefer.

Harness and Snyk:
When the mage was killed, the bonds of eldritch servitude sloughed off the warforged like so much chaff in the wind. His warforged brothers, loyal to this mage for far longer, and most assuredly to each other, were much slower to feel this new found freedom - if at all. Suddenly impressed with a sense of ... what was it? Longing? Belonging, or rather, the lack thereof? Destiny? The warforged knew not what it was, and could see only that a small creature, a living being, was being slowly crushed to death. By his own hands! The warforged dropped the creature and turned on his war forged "kin". They were slow, and lumbering compared to him, he who had been created for war and savagery. They were mere bodyguards, but he, he was a warrior, a shining exemplar of battle.

The battle was as quick as it was bloodless. Only flashes now recur in his mind, and what little of that he can bear he pushes far to the back of his memories. Pain. Subjugation. Longing. Fear. Loathing. So much negativity had consumed him, completed him, filled him. Now he was...free. Free to find a cause, or a path, or a name. He named himself. Harness. What was - harnessed. What is, a harness of his own, his own engine of belief and destruction. And he is free. Free to think, feel and do as he wished, and with his new friend Snyk, honourable and kind Snyk, who looks to Harness, who helps him plan and make his way in this world. Together they will find their destiny, of this Harness is sure...

How's that Snyk? I left it fairly vague to allow some wiggle room for Snyk. ;)

Ok, Harness is complete apart from having some funds to spend...

@Snyk, would you designate Flat Footed and Touch in your quick reference for me.

@Harness; yes it would. It'll be awhile before you'll be able to improve your AC, so it'll be a little over powered at first, but then will balance out.

@Snyk; I was reviewing your backstory and your stats... River Rat takes on a different light when you combine it with the fact that you grew up in the sewers. gross

This afternoon..change of topic real quick. I live in Central Illinois, so I am in central standard time zone. Just a heads up for everyone. Could everyone let me know where they're at? If you don't feel comfortable with everyone knowing, feel free to send it in a PM. Mostly just want to know the time zone you're in for reference.

Okay, back to my original thought. This afternoon, I'll be posting some game rules as well as some things you should know about me as the DM.
