Okay, I sort of made a background I guess... Not really sure about it, but if needed be I can try better. Writting a story in a non-native language is harder than one might think.

It's a good story. I also didn't realize I had such a diverse group of gamers at the table. 3 different continents represented.

Farmageddon

Okay folks, here are some of the rules and expectations. Note, these are not just things I expect from you, but also things you should expect from me. None of you know me, none of you know my play style. Same for me to you. So expect some learning curve as we all get comfortable with each other.

1) I have a large vocabulary, but my spelling is terrible, forewarning.

2) I assume competence in people, and all that this entails. Sometimes it bites me, but I just keep doing it. That being said, I only looked over your characters. I did not rebuild them from scratch to make sure that you did them right. I am presuming that since no one asked how any particular part would work, that everyone knows how they work.

3) We will, on occasion, take breaks. A one-week period where I will only post one or two times in that week. They will mostly be around very busy times in my real life (mid to late August, mid to late May, etc). I will also be lax on posting when we roll back around towards Christmas time. You will get a heads up well ahead of time before any breaks. No more than 1 every 3 months.

4) My thoughts tend to come in bursts. And, as you all should know or will soon find out, there is limited time to edit posts. So, don’t be surprised to see me post a few times in a row as more things come to mind that I feel should be added.

5) I will allow you to rebuild your character before reaching level 2. That way, if you don’t like the mechanics of it, you can re work some of it.

6) In the discussion thread, don’t post under your character alias, use your actual forum name. Character in the gameplay. Also, all out of character talk should be in the discussion thread, that is what it is for.

7) Usual play by post rules. Speaking in character should be in bold, respect the spoilers, don’t be jerks, etc. If you’re not sure, check the recruitment thread for a post by OSWolf with a link to how to play play by post. I haven’t read them, but I am going to presume that they’re standard advice.

8) For you Zamdoc, I will eventually create an Alias for the Blackblade for when you get it and when it communicates. Be thinking about what kind of weapon you want it to be. Remember, it doesn't need to be a longsword (or a sword at all, really). Blade may be in the name, but from your background it sounds like an axe would be better suited for your character (presuming you're proficient with one).

Actually no idea if I'm proficient with one, but right now I am using a scimitar. Anyways, feel free to make the choice yourself so it better suits the story! I don't mind giving options away for more fun.

Also, if it's an axe, I think you may even houserule me being proficient with one, and it wouldn't break a single thing (An axe is not even remotely the best weapon a magus can get). Anyways, your call.

Giantslayer Combat Map

Noted :) @Zamdoc, your background looks great, there is a big tendency towards melodramatic back stories, but really the game itself is supposed to be the defining narrative.

Quote:

ha!...none taken.

Giantslayer Combat Map

LOL, I am as guilty as anyone, my background could be a Telenovela ;) You would need to change at least one name to Estaban granted...

Farmageddon

Alright everybody, the gameplay thread is now active and the stage has been set. Remember the rules and most importantly Rule 0: everyone have fun.

Yaaaay!

As a warning, tomorrow I'll go on a trip for four days. I should be able to post anyways, but if I dissapear for one or two days you know why it is.

I think Harness just broke someone's arm.

Giantslayer Combat Map

Can I ask about how aware people would be of Ratfolk and Warforged? Does everyone know about them? Or would it require a knowledge check? I guess I want to know if Elery should be like, "Ooooh a Ratfolk," or, "What the heck is that?"

Farmageddon

I would say that people would be aware of them here. Sandpoint is relatively well traveled and makes a living through trade. They're not common at all, but there are a fair number of ratfolk in Magnimar, so they've been through town.

People are probably stopping to look at Harness, but they know what he is even if they've never seen a Warforged in person.

Giantslayer Combat Map

Great, thank you :)

Well, I'm roleplaying like he's never seen anything but the most common races (Being from a small town and all), but he didn't see the ratfolk, only the warforged. His fault for being small in such a party :P

Giantslayer Combat Map

A Holy Symbol tattoo is available for 100gp by the books FYI, which would definitely be too much for Elery now.

Farmageddon

Okay folks, we are approaching our first combat, and you'll notice that we don't have a map. That is because I would prefer to run with the theater of the mind concept. But, does that jive with everyone?

Quick vote, do you want links to a map or just have me be very descriptive of the area?

Cleric (Herald Caller) 1: HP 10/10; AC 17, 15, 12; Init +2; Fort +3, Ref +2, Will +4; CMD 15: Perception +2: Channel Energy 5/5; Enlarge 4/5

Map please as I am running a reach spellcaster build, I think PF is virtually unplayable without one.

I know that the anniversary edition came with a lot of nice, easy maps. Could upload them on a google slide for us to use if you want along with pieces. And PF does have some places to improve when it comes to mapless combat with so many distance requirements involed.

As a magus I'll probably have more than one issue playing without a map (Since being a melee spellcaster makes me abuse 5ft steps a lot). I'm open to try it without a map, but seeing oue party I think having one will be a better idea.

Male designation Warforged Fighter 1/Warpriest 1 HP 21/21; DR 2/adamantine; AC 20/11/FF19; Fort +7, Ref +1, Will +1; Init +1; Per -1; Spd 20 ft. CMB +5 CMD 16

I'm ok with mapless/ theatre of the mind, but it seems the vote is going for maps... I think Pathfinder can be played simply, without maps, but so many mechanics will be lost by the wayside without the granularity of exact distances, flanking, auras, ranges etc...

Ditto.

For Pbp I prefer mapless. I don't have much experience with using maps online but am willing to learn. I AM playing a rogue and line of sight/cover/flanking would add some complexity to my turns and may simplify the GMs job in describing the area.

Farmageddon

Okay folks, we are moving into our first combat. As I said earlier, I have never run play by post before. So I'm trying to figure out this whole map thing for combat. Sorry if it looks crappy. Open to suggestions.

Looks fine to me.

Cleric (Herald Caller) 1: HP 10/10; AC 17, 15, 12; Init +2; Fort +3, Ref +2, Will +4; CMD 15: Perception +2: Channel Energy 5/5; Enlarge 4/5

Looks great :) Can you give us permission to edit? That way we can move our own characters rather than give a grid reference, etc. I always just used to open it up to anyone with the link.

Male Human

Looks great GM Sphen!

Map looks great! I'll post my turn as soon as I can, I'm travelling right now so that will be in a few hours.

Farmageddon

Anyone who wants permission to edit just needs to request it. And please do as Elery did and put your character/alias name in the request so I know who wants access.

Plan is (and no idea if it's going to work) to just keep adding to the slides per chapter at least. That way you can look back on other areas. Also, feel free to swap out your tokens in you wish.

Tactical note: Snyk can pull any mundane item out of his pack that costs 30gp or less once per day.. If you think of an item that would help in a particular situation, let Snyk know in character.

I must say, I love this ability. I am going to have so much fun with it if only Snyk lives long enough.

Cleric (Herald Caller) 1: HP 10/10; AC 17, 15, 12; Init +2; Fort +3, Ref +2, Will +4; CMD 15: Perception +2: Channel Energy 5/5; Enlarge 4/5

I am with you, that is an amazing ability. Do alchemical items count as mundane? I swear the collapsible bath costs less than 30gp, there must be a use for a collapsible bath.

Sorry guys it's taking a bit longer than intended. Should post in an hour or so!

It says no magic items and must fit in a backpack. I assume Alchemical items would be okay since the rulebooks differentiate them from single use wonderous items. but i'll leave it up the GM.

Male Human

Away from computer - can someone move Harness four squares to the north/top?

Oceanshieldwolf wrote:

Moved both of us. Position is fine or did I forget how to count properly?

What is the name of the actual ability again? I review the wording and tell you, but I would default to a no on that. But it is a soft no. And partly because I want to be able to build up this ability. Eventually give you the power to pull higher gp value items, then low level magic stuff, etc. Kind of like the really older Kender ability.

Also, welcome everyone to the new paizo.com color patterns. Surprised? I was. I've already noticed that links are much more difficult to tell apart from regular text now. Any ideas anyone? Maybe adding a * to the text to make them stand out?

Farmageddon

Snyk, as concerns your stealth roll with the goblins; I'm not even going to try.

Cleric (Herald Caller) 1: HP 10/10; AC 17, 15, 12; Init +2; Fort +3, Ref +2, Will +4; CMD 15: Perception +2: Channel Energy 5/5; Enlarge 4/5

Ooops post in wrong thread!

Male Human

Not a fan of the font or the inability to click on tabs in Safari. Or sign in. Or.... Switching to Chrome.

Finally we hit them (Even if it was me), I was starting to worry seeing everyone missing while still being in front of the goblins...

Giantslayer Combat Map

LOL, not the most auspicious of starts:)

Everyone please remember you have bless if you are within 50ft. of Elery, so +1 to hit! Might not be much, but it can make a difference.

Dayum, didn't remember that. I'll take it into account next turn! Anyways, so I don't forget (Maybe you did, then shame on me), try to say what the spell does next time so I read it. I usually have good memory but I almost never play religious characters (Too hard for me)

I just saw you wrote it. Dayum I can't read.

Is any of the goblins still alive after your turns? I could do something different instead of attacking nothing if it's the case.

Male Human

Nice running of the combat GM Sphen.

Thank you. And thank you to all of you for taking your turns in a timely fashion. That way I didn't have to skip anyone.
