Sorry I haven't posted anything in awhile, I've been trying to force myself to post something to no avail. I'm just finding I care about Starfinder less and less due to a bunch of things, it doesn't have anything to do with any of you though so don't worry about that.
Mind to tell what the things are about Starfinder, you don't like?

I don't like a bunch of changes to the setting*, and I don't like how monsters and NPCs are built. There's a couple of other things but those are the main ones.
*Undead and Evil Outsiders can be any alignment as easy as anyone else, despite that they're Good aligned Goddesses (and Pharasma) that still want them wiped out... which doesn't make any sense if they're not inherently evil.

Yeah, that seems off to me as well and in any SF game I GM it'll be a change...albeit minor.
Undead are evil. Period. Evil Outsiders are evil. Period.
Any deviation would be a one off (IE the reformed Succubus from WoTR)
There wouldn't be for example a faction of Good Aligned Devils joining the church of Iomedae....
Foxy Quickpaw |
Your friend the Eoxian Ambassador might beg to differ. By that logic, all Eoxians are evil. Maybe I should have chosen a better example, as Nor is indeed LE ;)
But evil is only a label that gets put on monsters, NPCs and PCs to determine by what kind of spell they are affected. Obviously some of the monsters threatened to go on strike because: If those murder hobos stomping through our ranks and everything that gets in their way are allowed to call themself neutral, or even good, then we want that too!
Dame Tannhäuser |
And I don't care for that mindset about Alignment, it's not just a meaningless label that only applies to spells and effects to determine damage, it has meaning.
Foxy Quickpaw |
It sure has. I for example believe that killing people is evil. But if you apply that to the game, then it would be really hard to keep your party good aligned.
Even in the real world evil is mostly a label that a group who has their beliefs/morals puts on acts or others that don't belong to them or have other beliefs/morals. It's not like evil is some given law of nature like gravity.
GM Niles |
Except that in Pathfinder it is a law of nature like gravity...literally casting spells with the Evil descriptor will cause you to turn evil.
GM Niles |
Also, murdering sentient beings is most certainly evil...but there's a certain grey area that murderhobosAdventurers operate in...
Like, if an Orc Tribe is pillaging a town and the Adventurers slay all the Orcs...yeah that's not an evil act
If they then follow the Orc trail back to their lair and murder all the orc babies and orc women, that is an evil act.

Hey Rysky,
Sorry to see you go. While I'm not as bothered by that change, I can see where you're coming from - it's like they built the system for what had been the exception rather than making them exceptions to the rule. It was a pleasure to play with you, and a treat to meet the stoic, sly, often hsyterically funny Dame Tannhauser.

Has anyone ever studied the writings? Made an analysis?
"I reviewed the entirety of Zan’s original notes early in my time here at the faculty, and to my considerable knowledge, only Doctor Solstarni has studied them more recently. Zan’s methodology was imperfect, catering to an uneducated reader’s lexicon, fetishizing the ‘exotic,’ and conveying a pathological love of his self-image as an adventurer — likely to earn money or as an elaborate mating ritual. As a result, his work is scientifically wanting and his conclusions doubtful. Nevertheless, his notes provide enough detail to hypothetically retrace his steps."
"What piqued your interest in these files if I may ask?"
Want to rephrase your request?
EH-RK |
Done. I edited my post. Thanks GM
Foxy Quickpaw |
Damaya Lashunta Professor Muhali: You are welcome. We have need of your assistance. As contracted members of the Starfinder Society we came across the following writing. Eric sends over a HiRes photo of the script It is our belief that this writing was discovered by one Halkueem Zan, late of the Qabarat University of Xenoarchaeology and Exoanthropology. We wish to peruse his files and findings.
Before I give an stupid answer to that I'd like to ask: What are you showing Dr. Muhali and what do you mean by peruse the files and finding?
Ailabiens 21:2 is busy now collecting all the works of himself and Dr. Solstarni about the notes of Zan and then making a digital copy of the so far non digital notes. You get all that the next morning.
So if you approach her about permission to trace the steps of Zan on Castrovel as kind of an expedition, that would make sense, even though I don't know yet if she is the one to ask for permission. But that would be a lot of guesswork on my part from your post.
Please clear that up for me.
Manteca Imani, MD |
I think we can show her the script from the Drift Rock - but there's other examples of that script that Halkueem discovered, so that's what we're trying to find so we can figure out what the connection is.
GM Niles |
The part of "Eric sends over a HighResolution photo of the script" is where Eric sends over photos he took of the writing on the Drift rock.
Files and findings, IE whatever the university has from Halkueem Zan.
Eric is asking for the university's assistance as members of the Starfinder Society. He is specifically asking for assistance in reading, examinng the findings, writings, whatever of Halkueem Zan.

It looks like the interest in this game is at a new low.
Who is still interested in playing? I'd guess Manteca and EH-RK from the latest posts.
Please tell me if I'm right or wrong and if my guess is right, how to proceed.
This is a nice point in the story to just assign a few federal agents to our team, so we could recruit new people who are interested if the interest of some of the players here got lost on the way. Or we could at least recruit the missing 5th member. Your thoughts?
Jelloarm |
Still in and still interested! My posting's been erratic cuz I started a new job and was gone this Sunday/Monday, but I've got to see what this plucky little shirren envoy has still got up his sleeve.
I'm up for any other options - recruiting new people if anyone else is ready to get out, or just adding the fifth player.
EH-RK |
I'll be real sad if this game dies. Let's find some new blood if it'll keep us moving. We can RP this as finding some porters to assist Manteca and Eric in finding the missing Solstarni
Boreal Typhon |
I have been struggling to maintain interest. I think part of this is down to the fact that I was really excited about the interaction between Boreal and Tannhauser. After Tannhauser left I have felt Boreal is just not able to interact with anyone else in a way that comes close to as interesting.
I am thoroughly enjoying the story and want to carry on. I am just not sure how to get involved again.
EH-RK |
I'm not telling you how to play your character, but a Stoic taciturn warrior might not fit well with a hyperactive drug seeking doctor and a knowitall autismbot.
Now that I think about it, that might fit awesomely.
Boreal "We need to flank the position and lay down cover fire"
Manteca "Hmm. That reminds me of the time when I drank that substance humans call Firewater. The vomitus was exceptional."
Eric "Humanoids: There is a seven seven point oh two chance that if Shirren Manteca Imani consumes Firewater at this moment we will all die."
Boreal Typhon |
I was thinking that might be the only way to really add to the RP. I do worry it would become tiresome quickly.
To be completely honest I am not even sure what I enjoyed about the previous RP. I just found it thoroughly entertaining. That makes it hard to figure out how to begin to fix the issue now though.
I think I could see Boreal coming to understand the other party members more as they travel. I think I just need to jump of the deep end and have Boreal interact with them more in a not combat environment to develop a relationship with them.
If you guys are happy to help with that obviously...

Role playing? In an RPG?? Not on my watch![/kidding]
But for realzies, I think that Boreal is an awesome personality already. I have a Meleechanic vesk who has a lot of similar DNA - big, brusque, tends to favor a direct route through issues and/or encounters - and I've been getting a lot of RP mileage out of playing up a certain amount of semi-competitive ribbing the other players for their combat non-readiness - at least by vesk standards. Might be some seeds you can borrow there, or maybe Boreal's previously-revealed 'softer' side is something we can start exploring more. Can we get Boreal a pet?? That'd be something I'd like to watch...
Plus don't worry, we'll see if we can't find you another muscley Solarian to get a case of the heebie-jeebies for ;)
Boreal Typhon |
Haha
I would love a baby crest eater!!
I did try some RP off of the fact Manteca was struggling to heal anything on the drift rock.
I got the feeling you were put off by it/really didn't like it. So I have tried not to do that again

Oh no! Me as player thought that whole interplay was awesome! Manteca was a little overdramatic about it all, but that was one of Manteca's highlights for me - overcome by self-doubt over his abilities and combat readiness, he doesn't recognize the fact that he's yelling down the bad-ass mook-cleaving vesk soldier.
Plus I did make Manteca take Skill Focus: Medicine so hopefully that s%~$ stops happening XD Looking forward to having the credits to get an advanced medkit too.
Manteca Imani, MD |
Of course! And I'm sorry I didn't express that more clearly as a player - I view this as a game, and if I have something to say in-character, that's the sign that I'm engaged and excited. If I think something is wrong or a dick move or whatever, I'll move it to the Discussion threads - though given the group, I don't have a lot of worries about that :)
Boreal Typhon |
To give some background on Boreal...
I have tried to model her somewhat on a version of the Spartans from 300.
She doesn't fight for the sake of it, as to fight without cause is dishonorable. However she will readily fight when she is given reason. If people use force on her she retaliates in kind.
To this end she has never struck first.
She is capable on heavy weapons but specializes with melee.
She loves the risk and adrenaline of closing the gap and fighting up close.
I may have intentionally focused on melee specifically to make use of the Jet Dash feat and plan on literally jumping over parked space ships.
Boreal is pedantic about names and will take offence if her name is not used properly. She tolerates the shortening of names during combat as a necessity but at all other times she wants her name respected.
Beyond that she was rather awestruck with one of our previous characters and is sombre/almost mourning the loss of the possibilities that would have brought.
I will gladly answer any questions this raises
Boreal Typhon |
She has yet to be physically violent to anyone in the party.
You may want to rethink always using her given name as her given name is Boreal Typhon, Daughter of Zerukesh "Hornbreaker" Typhon, Daughter of Tarsonis "Jaeger" Typhon
Boreal Typhon |
If I do ever feel the need to resort to physical violence with her I will pass it by you first, and it will be more intimidation style tactics than actual violence.
I will not do anything that makes you uncomfortable to play your character.
I may suggest doing stuff like bumping into you quite forcefully or things like that. If she gets properly peeved I may ask about picking you up by the collar and being very in your face.
It should not need to come to that though.
It nearly went there with Boomer, one of our former companions. But he was a self titled "bit of a jerk"
Corporal Jazzming Brokato |
Oh, no, I'm very "go with the flow", not much really bothers me much. I do appreciate the warning, though. Besides, Jazzming is a kindly woman, and does nicknames in a friendly manner. Plus, I meant my comment as a joke.
Boreal Typhon |
It was a good joke. But you know what they say "Many a truth said in jest". Besides it is an important topic to mention as I know I might be quite put off if someone started interacting with my characters in some other games like that without warning.
DM Greaek |
Hey foxy i feel really freaking stupid asking this and not realizing that it was dead sun before, but i am currently DMing a dead sun game. I feel confident in my ability to keep IC and OOC knowledge seperate, but can understand if it eliminates me from the game, apologies for not realizing this earlier.
