Hi All, sorry to have to do this, but we lost someone at work and I've picked up a lot of job duties in the interim. With as fast as this game is moving, I know I won't be able to keep up with it. It has been a pleasure, and I wish you all the best. Please mark me inactive, GM.
Sorry to hear that, FC. Lolo will be missed. Best of luck with the new responsibilities!

EH-RK wrote:Eric calls out to the gang bangers in the next room.Bad case of auto correct? :D
Such a pun seems very emotional for our artificial friend.
Well, at least that part was narrative in nature and not Eric's speech. Also, not autocorrect just slightly poor word choice. I mean they *are* gang members, and gang banger has at least *one* other meaning...but yeah.
Ah well. All my posts can't be as entertaining as Atlas's
Dame Tannhäuser |
Sorry to hear, Lolo. Hope everything soon goes well for you.
EH-RK |
Yeah, lets just end this...we can patch the survivors up if there are any afterwards.
Let's be real here...we aren't gonna be Space Paladins anytime soon.
Boreal= Bloodthirsty Space Lizard
Manteca= Drug Addled Doctor
EHRK= Amoral Probabilistic Life Sized Computing Machine
Allison= Well, I mean...she's Allison
Tannhauser= The closest thing we have to a "good guy" in the group.
Ok, just for gigs and shizzles I looked over people's chosen alignments (I know, it means *literally* nothing in SF and I'm 100% cool with that).
Manteca= N
Allison = N (None listed but I'm gonna assume alignment here.)
EHRK = LN (Only Lawful because what the heck else would he be??)
Tannhauser= N
Boreal= NG ??!!?!!!?!! Good?>! What?!
Dame Tannhäuser |
*blink*
*blink*
Yeah...
Allison would definitely be CN.
Dame Tannhäuser |
Manteca = NG
Allison = CN
EHRK = LN
Tannhäuser = N
Boreal = LE

Aw, you think Manteca is good! I think he's going to skew a little CN before too much longer... Maybe - maybe - CG.
Allison - 100% CN
EHRK is holding LN well.
Tannhauser... I can see "N" but feels a little too mischevious. Dash of C in there for flavor?
Boreal's alignment is "You and your friends shot me, so f**~ you" - like a "Neutral Reactive"
Dame Tannhäuser |
@Jello, his cuddlyness clouds my judgement :3
And mischievous? Hehehe.
@Boreal, resorting to murder as a preemptive solution. The Lawful comes from the insistence on the names and protocols

No discussion on Allison's CN
EH-RK LN? - going straight by probabilities to get a favourable outcome for him makes him N but not necessarily L
Tannhäuser didn't give too much text with intentions but I'd tend to NG, might go to C once it goes against the big corporation.
The good Dr. Manteca is definitely G and I would even say LG.
Boreal I'd say LN. She is definitely L for following a strict code of honor. The ways she chooses are not good by any means but as the goals aren't evil she doesn't qualify as evil in my opinion.
EH-RK |
See, this is why alignment discussions never go well. We literally all have people pegged for different alignments.
Personally, I'd argue that the L part of EHRK is his insistence on logical solutions. Logic vs Illogic imho is a C vs L debate...
So, for these reasons I'm glad alignment has very very very very little mechanical ramifications in Starfinder.

Begone! There is room for but one Android Trope in this discussion thread!

Hi there. It's rules time here in discussion and because it has come up some information on Skills:Computer
Computer is a trained only skill, which means if you don't have at least one rank in computers you can't use these things at all.
There is one single exception to that:
Access Unsecured System
You can use Computers to access an unsecured computer system’s most basic functions. The DC to access the information or functions of a public computer with no countermeasures or firewalls is generally 10. Unlike other tasks of the Computers skill, you can attempt to access a system untrained if you take 20 on the task, requiring 2 minutes.
This basically means it takes you two minutes to google who played the lead character in Pirates Of The Caribbean on the public computer in the library.
I checked and found out that Manteca, Tannhäuser and Boreal are suffering from this embarrassing condition. If you want to play that out - and Manteca is really entertaining when he handles this issue - that's fine with me. But if you started the game with the wrong assumption that everybody can use computers somehow because its everyday technology you have now the chance to move a rank from a skill that you didn't bring to the game yet to computers.
Foxy Quickpaw |
While checking on who has which skills I also found that not all have their character profile filled with the information about their character as requested.
Depending on what device I'm on it's a pain in the ass to look at the linked character sheets. So please add this information if it is still missing for your character.
Foxy Quickpaw |
You may not have noticed it yet, but Starship Combat is approaching inexorable. Therefore I made a small listing about the skills that are helpful in such.
Captain
Demand (Any Phase) +4 -> Intimidate
Encourage (Any Phase) +2 -> Diplomacy (DC15+2/Tier) or DC10 of the skill you encourage in
Taunt (Any Phase, Push) -2,-4 -> Bluff, Intimidate
6th level - Orders (Any Phase, Push) +1 action -> Engineering, Computers, Piloting, Gunnery
12th level - Moving Speech (Any Phase) -> Diplomacy
Engineer
Engineer uses only the Engineering Skill
Gunner
Gunner uses BAB+Dex Mod+Piloting
Gunnery Check = 1d20 + the gunner’s base attack bonus or the gunner’s ranks in the Piloting skill + the gunner’s Dexterity modifier + bonuses from computer systems + bonuses from the captain and science officers + range penalty
Pilot
Pilot uses only the Piloting skill
Science Officer
Science Officer uses only Computers Skill

I could have gotten that easier:
SKILLS AND STARSHIP COMBAT
Whether you’re attempting a complicated flying maneuver,
patching a power core, or scanning enemy vessels, skills are a
vital part of the system that governs combat between starships.
When choosing your skills, you might want to keep in mind
which role you’d like to perform in starship combat.
D If you want to be a skilled pilot, invest ranks in Piloting.
D If you want to be an effective engineer, invest ranks in the
Engineering skill.
D If you want to be a capable science officer, invest ranks in the
Computers skill.
D If you want to be an adept gunner and your base attack bonus
isn’t equal to your level, invest ranks in the Piloting skill.
D If you want to be a worthy captain, invest ranks in one or all
of Bluff, Diplomacy, and Intimidate, as well as any or all of the
skills listed for the other roles.
For more information on starship combat, see page 316.
Foxy Quickpaw |
Piloting(Dex)
Engineering (Int)
Computers (Int)
Also
Culture (Int)
Perception (Wis)
Life Science (Int)
From what I've seen so far these are the skills used most in the game. And most of them are Int based. I'd say taking Int as a dump stat as it gives you a negative here and also costs you a skill rank.
And in starship combat in Piloting often your ranks are the thing that counts. Not the overall skill.

To avoid misunderstandings. Soon there are going to come in Downside Kings at a rate of 1d4 per round. Who wants to be still there when that happens?
I would write a small escape for you if you want to cut that short, but so far no one seems in a hurry. Well, all but Allison.
Who also followed EH-RK's advice to state her planned action (to leave) and wait for the others to either agree or disagree. While Dame Tannhäuser created facts. Just pointing that out as EH-RK isn't here at the moment to do so himself ;)
EH-RK |
Eric is right behind Allison...
Foxy Quickpaw |
Gear Allison packed:
tactical semi-auto pistol with 30 rounds, datapad (tier 1 computer)
3 times: azimuth laser pistol with
battery (20 charges), club, credstick (150 credits)
vesks stuff: assault hammer, frag grenade I, shock grenade I, credstick (200 credits)
Boreal:
azimuth artillery laser with 2 batteries (20 charges each),
Foxy Quickpaw |
You already visited Otal. You got the tour.
You can cut that short by sending him a message telling him who you are. Because I don't have more material. But you still can get another coffee. You can take a visit to Astral Extractions to get that tour from them too. But you can also ignore that if you want. You just have to tell me what you want to do next.
Foxy Quickpaw |
If only Allison is missing I can add in that one roll to get it going. What piloting is to do here is no rocket science. But we'd need at least someone to man/woman the weapons. And the ship actually has cool weapons as a turret can shoot in any direction.
Outrunning the other ship is no option as we're at speed 6 and the other at 12 (I had 12 and 14 in mind as I wrote the post about the speed of the ships, but that shuttle is a sitting duck).
So who wants to fill which role for starship combat? Or shall I bring in three Skittermander NPCs to fill the roles?
Dame Tannhäuser |
Yus!
If the Skittermanders aren't interested Tannhäuser can take a combat role since she's Full BAB.
EH-RK |
Eric is gonna bounce between Engineering and Science as needed.
Foxy Quickpaw |
If all are there and willing all roles can be filled and we can go through the complete turn. With piloting and weapons operated we can do this. You just have to check what are your possible actions and post them for the round.
I'll do the pilot round for Allison and then the shooting can start.
EH-RK |
@Everyone Check out the link I posted. It's a summary handout of ship combat in starfinder. I found it hella useful in SFS games.
EH-RK |
Is Boreal gone for real? Because he's been posting in a bunch of other threads...
Foxy Quickpaw |
Changing Roles
You can switch between roles (or assume a role if you don’t
already have one), but this change must occur at the start of
a round before the engineering phase. You can switch to the
captain or pilot role only if that role would otherwise be vacant
(or if the character in that role is unable to take actions).
Which means in my opinion that you can't have more than one pilot or captain.
