I don't have the Shield of Sunrise on my Herolab, so I just took a Bolstering Shield instead. Hope that's okay.

I paid a bit extra. Took a Light steel shield and added a +1 enhancement and the Bolstering ability, And a Breastplate and added +2 and made it mithral. I'm open to suggestions though. Just dont have cash to buy the book for Herolab and the new site was confusing so couldnt even find the Undead Slayers handbook that the sunrise shield is in.

So question, would a spell like, oh I don't know, Slay living, if I touched the flytrap affect Spugs in any way?
With three grabbed and pinned I say this will probably be a 3/4 TPK unless Stam can Dimension Door out and/or Darius has that low level Word of Freedom spell. These critters just hammer everything with massive grapple scores.
I need to read up on the combat maneuvers and grapple rules. But as far as I know at least it can only eat one character at a time. Maybe I find some other rules that help out here.
I did stop Power Attacking, but of course I rolled a 1 and a 2 on my first two hits.... The third attack may have hit but only because I rolled an 18.
I may need to spend a round casting divine favor to get me a + 3 to flip the odds in my favor to hit the thing.... That would at least give me a 50% chance to land 2 hits a round on the thing...
That's actually the way Venus fly traps work. The pods snap on a fly and over the course of 24 hours it dissolves the fly and "drinks" the slush. Then it opens up again to repeat. It's actually pretty cool.
That's what they are going for here just must faster.

Sorry guys. I went away for work last thursday and didn't let anyone on the boards know. Just got back today.

All the fights so far in this chapter have been "interesting". Far more then most of them have been the past few chapters.
I'm not sure if we just are behind on the power level or if we just had bad luck.
I guess it is a change in book and the author throws difficult encounters at the group. You're right where you should be, level wise.
Your wealth in items is probably lacking a bit as you still play with +1 weapons and 12th level Valeros wields a +3 weapon.
But what I noticed is: Grergof is the main damage dealer and if he doesn't hit, it goes down south. Spugnoir does damage with his bombs, if he is not incapacitated. Stam can do damage if he wants to, but usually doesn't. And my support as evil twin of Darius is lacking as I have no exact idea where his strengths are.
But an encounter design where the enemy can grab the whole group in the first round and then swallow one per round in the rounds to follow with no chance to ever get out again, but rolling a nat 20 is rather harsh.
I guess I need to take a closer look at the enemies to notice before the fight that you might be screwed.
Usually I fall off the horse the other way. I think the enemy is too dangerous, don't open with its strongest ability, and find the monster dead before the fight really started.
You tell me if I should go easier on the party, or if that is still fun. Or maybe for some the fun is starting when it gets close.
No that's fine.... We are making it through so far.
I'm just saying we all need to know things are getting serious now and Grergof can't carry the bulk of the damage dealing in a fight any more.
High level Pathfinder is a whole different game when melee starts to fall behind.
We may actually need to start being careful.
And yes, Spugs, Freedom of Movement is Very Helpful.... There's a reason I was looking for that ring.

Sorry guys, past couple weeks have been hectic and stressful. Family drama and catching up with work. So sorry for the slow posting.
I'll be on the road traveling starting tomorrow and not returning until Tuesday of next week. I will try to post if I can, but I have no idea of internet access throughout all this trip. As such feel free to bot me for the next 6 days if I don't respond within 24 hours.
Did we lose the story thread here, or is this an investigation where we need to find our clues?
I think so far we could:
1) Talk to the city guard and try to get more info about the killer
2) Try to find the inside source in the vampires that is giving info to the killer.
3) Try to lure the killer out into a trap (if we could find his method of operating)
4) Skip all this and try to track down who is trying to become a lich (but I don't know that we have enough information here)
5) Play with the key again and see if we can actually pass the test this time and go into whatever portal.
Am I forgetting anything?
I honestly don't know that just randomly talking to nobles is going to get us anything.

Hey everyone. Sorry for going missing again. Real life i kicking me in the nads.
I'm overwhelmed with work, which is chewing up a lot of my time. Family issues, which isn't so much distracting each day but emotionally is talking a bit of a toll, and currently looking for a new place to stay as I've been crashing on the floor on a camping mattress since January so I'm perpetually tired all the time. Hopefully a move will help me get some kinda equilibrium again.
And I hate having to go silent and leave you guys hanging all the time, so I think it best to count me out of the game till further notice. Might be able to come back in in a couple months as I was really enjoying the games I'm currently in, but I'm always too mentally exhausted to post and read through the posts.
I've been agonizing over posting this for the past two weeks but think it's for the best for now.

Thanks Clone Darius, I will definitely pop in again as soon as I have a handle on things here. :)
