@Celia: No, your readied action went off against Orange (you can't tell one goblin from another). So, I didn't bother to move you since you're in tthe same block.
You can fire at either of them now.
Jacobadiah 'Squint' Nirodin |
Squint looks around to see if he can spy any other way of getting across.
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Very likely a failure.
Not spying anything of interest, Squint awaits the help of someone with a rope from within the chamber.
"Can you help me?" he pleads.
Backalley Barkot |
"Celia, jus' climb outta da damn pit! Ya asked fer a rope, dat's what it's fer!" Barkot calls out in frustration.
He looks up at the halfling, still standing in the doorway.
"Sorry, Squint. I t'ought Celia wanted ta climb out. Want me ta jest carry ya across? I ain't gonna make habit of it, but dere's no reason fer all of us ta get covered'n crap."
Barkot is carrying a light load - he should be able to carry a halfling without going all the way to heavy encumbrance, I think.
GM Brunoreturns |
Barkot is carrying a light load - he should be able to carry a halfling without going all the way to heavy encumbrance, I think.
Yes, that should be possible, at a point where you aren't bracing a rope for others to climb up (or providing climbing assistance for others).
If you choose to aid Reillana's climb attempt, I am going to charge you a standard action. The assist will be automatic (it doesn't take much skill to cup your hands for someone's foot)
If Celia climbs up the other side of the rope, I'll charge a move action to brace yourself. Celia will then have a rope and a wall, which makes it DC 5, I think
Putting the plank back in place is an option as well... Move action to pick it up, a standard from you and another from someone else to put it in place.
@Squint You guys have seen anything there is to see, as far as getting across the pit. Creativity is always allowed (again much better outside of combat where we don't have to worry about action economy)
Celia Hillore |
Celia, jus' climb outta da damn pit! Ya asked fer a rope, dat's what it's fer!" Barkot calls out in frustration.
Celia looks at the rope astonished and quickly shoulders her bow and grabs the rope and begins to climb. climb: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11 Sorry didn't notice you threw it down! kinda under fire here! Celia puts one hand over the other ascending the rope with ease with her feet braced against the wall.
Don't know how deep the pit was GM but Celia would have used one action to shoulder her bow..at most she'd be 7.5' up that rope (1/4 movement) by the end of her turn.

Paëral will turn around and fire at orange...

To keep things moving, I am going to say that Paeral 5-foor stepped out of Reillana's way, and that Barkot 5-foot stepped into range to give her aid during her climb.
Both Celia and Reillana are standing on the ledge now. Remember the DC 10 Acrobatics check if you decide to change your position inside of the new room. I am not requiring a check to move from the doorway 5-feet into the second room (which is why I didn't roll one for Paeral's move

"Once I see what they are firing at, I can call for a flying friend to come and help us. Hurry!" Squint urges the half-orc.
Celia Hillore |
Celia attempts to move slowly along the ledge acro: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22. She the re-draws her bow. That's Celia's entire turn..at least she didn't fall back into the pit!
Backalley Barkot |
I'm not sure how best to describe this in terms of the action economy, but it seems like it probably takes Barkot's full turn and at least Squint's move action for Barkot to step over to Squint, Squint to get on Barkot's shoulders, and Barkot to walk across the pit. Does that sound right? That would leave Squint with an action to clamber up to the ledge on the other side once Reillana is out of the way.
Barkot steps over to Squint and reaches out to help the halfling get seated across his shoulders.
What da heck wuz I thinkin'? He better not t'ink I'm gonna be his pony ride whenever dat big whatchamacallit of his ain't around!
The half-orc trudges across the pit with Squint on his back. Ah, Hells. Dis ain't too bad. Mebbe I could get used ta dis whole "working wit' udder people" t'ing. Da gals are OK, an' dat elf guy knows what he's doin', even if he is pretty full of himself. An' ol' Squint's all right - he gets a little pissy, but den, so do I. I still ain't gonna be his pony ride, dough.
Barkot stops when they reach the far side of the pit. "All right, Bub - dat's as far as we go."
Jacobadiah 'Squint' Nirodin |
GM, you're the ultimate judge and determinant of how all of this works in the action economy of battle.
As Barkot carries Squint across the foul-smelling pit on his shoulders, Squint thanks him profusely.
"Thanks a bunch, Barkot!" Squint shouts as he alights at the doorway next to Reillana.
I'll use my entire round for movement.

Yes, I think two move actions for both of you covers it. That is a mount/dismount for Squint and two moves for Barkot. As long as Reillana moves out of the way, everything should be fine.
Reillana Myerishil |
Stepping aside to make room for Squint, Reillana draws her bow--grimacing as filth smears the polished wood--and fires at the next goblin to pop up.

As Barkot carries Squint across the foul-smelling pit on his shoulders, Squint thanks him profusely.
"Thanks a bunch, Barkot!" Squint shouts as he alights at the doorway next to Reillana.
Huh. How 'bout dat.
"Hrrm. Yer welcome, pal."
Barkot looks around, realizes he's the only one still in the sewage-filled pit, and sighs.
Now how da hell am I gonna get outta here?
"Uhhh, c'n somebody hang onta da udder end o' dis rope fer me?"
Reillana Myerishil |
"We'll have you out in a moment, Barkot!" Grabbing hold of the rope, Reillana offers the slack to the others to help pull the half-orc up.
That accomplished, the masked elf refuses to go further before taking the time to liberally use her magic to clean the filth from her clothes, hair, skin, and gear. She offers the same to Barkot and anyone else who wants it.
Liberally casting Prestidigitation until clean.
Backalley Barkot |
Barkot hauls himself over the corner of the ledge and back onto his feet. "Hrm. Thanks. Reillana, could you do summa dat ..." He searches for the word. "... perspiration - dang it, dat ain't da woid, but ya know what I mean - on me while yer at it? I jest hadda bat' last night!"
Celia Hillore |
With a *grunt* Celia pulls the small bolt out of her shoulder.
(since I'm not threatened will take '10' on acrobatics) Celia moves to the nearest position she can to the goblins small dugout on the ledge. Paëral, after you're through hauling Barkot up..toss me that rope will ya? Does anyone have a grappling hook? Perhaps we can shimmy over to the Gobs little ledge there? Celia grimaces in a little bit of pain. Do the Gods owe any of you any favors? I managed to catch one of the little buggers bolts in the battle...it's not bad, but it could slow me a bit in the next battle.
Backalley Barkot |
Celia's already up - Barkot was last.
At Celia's request for healing, Barkot nods, then hesitates.
"I dunno about gods or favors. I c'n draw from da well a couple more times 'fore it runs dry fer da day, but dat's it. Yer shoulder don't look so hot, Celia, and Reillana's wound looks even worse, so I'm willin' ta try. I jest won' be much good fer da rest of da day."
After a moment, he adds. "'Less somebody wants ta try out one o' dose potions we took offa dat wizard who tried ta ambush us. Anybody know how ta figger out what dey do?"
Reillana Myerishil |
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Reillana passes a hand over her injury, knitting the wound closed. "You needn't worry yourself on my account, Barkot, though it's sweet of you to do so. I think I should see a priest soon though...sewage in an open wound is a guaranteed infection."
Inclining her head to indicate the door Celia is standing by, Reillana puts away her bow and draws her blade. "We should check the rest of the building first."
Jacobadiah 'Squint' Nirodin |
I'll withdraw Ernesto the Eagle and save that summons - thanks, GM!
Squint squints up at Barkot as he mentions the potions of the would-be ambusher.
"I could try to identify them," he says slowly. "I think."
The halfling takes a proffered vial and sniffs at it, using his arcane skills to puzzle out the enchantment.
Spellcraft Check to identify potion: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25 Cool!
GM Brunoreturns |
There are two Light Blue potions that radiate Faint Conjuration magic, 1 yellow potion that radiates Faint Conjuration magic, and an Orange potion that radiates Faint Illusion.
Which are you identifying?
GM Brunoreturns |
You believe the Light Blue potions with imbue a small amount of positive energy into the consumer. Cure Light Wounds
Celia Hillore |
After Squint identifies the potion, Celia waves off Barkot. Um well I'm going to live hehe.., maybe I could just keep that healing liquid handy and on my person...just in case another gob decides to stick something in me? Celia flushes when she realizes the double entendre, she just uttered. She stutters a bit blurting, Umm what I meant is well...um ...never mind...I guess I should be O.K. Celia puts her head down absently kicking at some dirt.
GM is there a door behind Celia here on this part of the ledge? Is that what Reillana is pointing to? Or do we need to figure out a way to cross the chasm to the goblin portion of the ledge?
GM Brunoreturns |
Yes, there is a door. Your token is currently sitting slightly on top of the door. Perhaps that is why you don't see it.
You can also go across to the crates, if you want. There is a small-sized hole in the wall that appears to go into the same room. If you wanted to get across to there, maybe there is a plank of wood somewhere in the building that you could walk across.
Backalley Barkot |
I can take a hint.
Barkot pulls up the board from the first room.
"Could one a' youse gimme a han' gettin' this set up? Might be easier'n tryin' to hug da wall walk' 'roun' dat ledge."
Jacobadiah 'Squint' Nirodin |
As Barkot and team are trying to determine the best way through the building, Squint concentrates on the other two potions.

Spellcraft (Orange): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
GM Brunoreturns |
Squint is unable to determine the properties of the Yellow potion, but the Orange one causes light to bend around a person, making them difficult to see for a short time. Invisibility
GM Brunoreturns |
FYI: The DC for crossing the plank is the same as for traversing the sloping ledge (10). I am allowing Take 10 for the ledge, but not for the plank.
Note that there is currently no way to the goblin's platform without walking over the plank. There might be a way to get there in the next room, and there might not. Somebody will actually have to open the door/poke a head through the hole to find out...
Jacobadiah 'Squint' Nirodin |
Squint helps Barkot pull the plank out of the muck up to the ledge where he waits, providing the half-orc an easy way up and into the second room.
"This ledge is getting mighty crowded," Squint concludes as Barkot comes up. "Perhaps Reillana and Paeral, you two could go and help Celia with that door?"
GM Brunoreturns |
Behind the crates, Paeral spies the two dead goblins. The medium-sized heavy crossbows they were using have fallen to the ground, and there is a small pile of 6 bolts that they were sharing.
Again, if you want to do a more thorough looting, for the time being you'll need to specify, so I'm just stating what is out in the open
Taking a quick peek into the next room, Paeral spies yet another collapsed room. This room appears to have no floor whatsoever, the entire thing having collapsed into the sump of a sewage pit below.
The ceiling as well has collapsed, leaving only blackened rafters above.
Nailed to the wall next to the hole in the wall is another ladder leading into the rafters.
There is a door in the western wall, but only the debris of the floor and the sides of the pit below it.
Celia Hillore |
Celia shouts over to Paëral, Is it safe to open this door Paëral? Assuming he confirms he sees no ambush, Celia tries the door she's in front of.
Paëral |
Paëral shrugs. "You can open the door...but there's no floor..."
The Elf will search the goblin bodies...
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Is the ladder reachable from my position?
GM Brunoreturns |
Is the ladder reachable from my position?
You would need to squeeze through the hole, but then you think you could transfer from the hole onto the ladder
In addition to the crossbows, each goblin is wearing leather armor, with light wooden shields and short swords. All of it is filthy from time spent in the sewers.
Jacobadiah 'Squint' Nirodin |
Squint carefully shuffles past Barkot on his way to attempt to traverse the plank leading across the room to Paeral and the goblin crow's nest.
Take 10 for the ledge.
He takes a deep breath as he tries to walk the plank.
"I never had an opportunity to do this when I was at sea!" Squint mutters in an uncharacteristic bright fashion.
Acrobatics Check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Backalley Barkot |
Barkot considers his options. Once Squint is across the plank - Huh, da liddle guy can move when he needs ta, he thinks - he decides to try it himself.
"Gotta get ta da ladder somehows," he mutters. To Paëral, he calls, "We c'n pick up da goods from da gobbos on da way out - clean dat stuff up wit' Reillana's presto-whatchamacallit an' we won' have any problem sellin' it."
"Here goes nuttin." He slings his crossbow over his shoulder and hangs his buckler on his belt to free up his arms for balance.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Barkot steps on a damp spot on the plank and his foot skids a few inches. He pinwheels his arms wildly for a moment before tumbling off the board into the muck below.
”Whoops! Ah, shit!”
And this is why I have scrawled ALWAYS CAST GUIDANCE in red marker all over the character sheet for the oracle of time I play at live PFS games. Sigh.
GM Brunoreturns |
There is currently no room on the other side of the plank, so let's wait a bit before we see if Barkot falls in the muck again...
Celia Hillore |
Is there room for Celia to open the door in front of her and look on the other side? If so that's what she does.
perception (after light is cast): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
GM Brunoreturns |
The door is now open and Celia looks through and confirms there is no floor in the next room.
You can attempt to climb the wooden walls from any of the three rooms into the rafters above. The DC is 20, and the rafters are 10 ft up.
Another option is to drop down into the sewage and attempt to climb the pit walls to the other door.
That DC is 15.
Any other options would depend on your equipment or creativity.
