hey GM: have fun on your journeys!
Thank you! I'll let you all know when I come across things that are particularly interesting.

GM BrOp |

Now firmly in Korea for the next 2.5 weeks. Plans include some light sightseeing interspersed with frenzied eating of wonderful food.

Lia Tani |

I was thinking about those propped up scarecrows, and how we could easily distinguish the dangerous ones from the hostages.
And then thought back to the previous battle. And then to Drasven:
You are a Warpriest, that means you should be able to Channel Energy, right?
I know it gets stronger slower than for a vanilla cleric, but if we run into another set, it may be worth remembering and keep the option open, if only as a AoE identification burst.
Also, while we're there talking planning our next moves: Karmid is still banged up pretty badly - maybe we'll want him at a higher HP total if we break into the house :)
Also@GM: Do enjoy. I'm envious.

Karmid Groundbreaker |

I appreciate it! I try not to complain too much about my HPs because Karmid can be reckless he tends to have plenty of them. It does not help his AC is a little low at the moment, but I hope to improve that in the future.

Drasven Hammers |

I'll have to use 2 fervor for 1 channel.
Total Fervor uses I have is....5

Karmid Groundbreaker |

I've still got like...8 vials of Holy Water if we need them? We can use the channels as back up if we use up the water.

Lia Tani |

Aye Drasven, I understand it would be situational.
But as said, it's good to keep in mind.
Using 2 Fervor to burst several undead could be quite valuable, especially if several are wounded and the blast could finish them.
Or if we get the drop on a mixed group and quickly need to identify targets.
I am not advocating using the Channel in every situation, just saying we should not forget the possibility exists.

Matrim of Shadows |

I received a scare yesterday at the hospital and will have to go in for some more tests in one week. The problem is with my liver, which is funny since i'm not a heavy drinker. The doctor said it might be something to do with my kidney.... So i am a little concerned about that. But what ever it is, the damage is still slight and they caught it in time. So with a good diet and checkups. I will be fine.
Just some added stress onto me in an already stressful time. :/
I should be able to post again today, just somewhat worried about my health.

Karmid Groundbreaker |

I understand becasue I've been there.
I've had NASH for years.
N.A.S.H. = Non-Alcoholic Steto-Hepatitis (Sp?)
Basically it is Cirrhosis (damage) of the liver...for people who don't drink much. So I get the liver damage of alcoholism, without any of the buzz or blackouts. Like ever. I've never been drunk in my life really.
So I kind of know where you are at there...
Good luck Matrim! I hope your diagnosis is better than mine was!

Matrim of Shadows |

Thank you guys.
The check to see if its something with my liver is tomorrow. I'll hop back on here and let you know how it goes.

Drasven Hammers |

Good luck Matrim.
May you get the best positive results.

Matrim of Shadows |

It looks like all my checks and hospital visits will be done by next Thursday.
So far, they haven't found anything too serious. And they caught my blood pressure and liver damage at a very early stage, so I should make a full recovery. They are doing a sonogram (i think) next week to check out my kidney and make sure everything is alright.
Like i said, I'll keep you updated and should be back in a weeks time.

GM BrOp |

Thanks for the update, Matrim. Glad to hear that it will be manageable. Hang in there, I know it can be scary.

Drasven Hammers |

Good news.
It will be better news from then on.

Jiliana Dalca |

I'm so sorry for the slow posting. I've been swamped for the last couple of weeks with work. I'll try my best to get back on a regular posting schedule.

Jiliana Dalca |

What I'm seeing is Lia and I are down for burning the barn down without opening the door and checking for non ghouls first.
Ro and Kharmid want to open the door and let the ghouls pour out. That way we can be sure there are no hoomans inside.
What does the rest of the group want to do?

Drasven Hammers |

No one can climb the roof or peek through windows to check on that?
Just checking on other possible ways.

Karmid Groundbreaker |

No windows. I'm on the roof. No way to see or get in from there.

Rojava Brishen |

Maybe I should lay out clearly what I'm trying to do with the fire. The idea isn't to burn down the barn, but to block the exit to give us an advantage. The ghouls inside won't be able to come straight out without going through the bonfire. I don't know if doing so would actually hurt them much, that's a GM call, but it shouldn't look like a great idea to them.
To avoid the fire, they will have to squeeze by it to the left or the right. This will slow them down coming out, and/or split them into two groups separated by the fire (at least initially). We should have an easier time ganging up on them one or two at a time that way. Most importantly, it will prevent them from ganging up on any one of us too easily.
I wouldn't worry about all this so much if the ghouls weren't able to paralyze. But between that ability and multiple attacks, it's a real problem. Especially when there's a group of them, it's way too easy for a failed FORT save or two to put us in serious trouble. Ro does have Remove Paralysis as a Domain SLA, but that's a 1/Day use. Frankly I'm astounded I haven't already had to use it.
Now, it is possible the ghouls will refuse to come out. That's why I want them to believe the barn is actually being burned. It'll create a lot of incentive to leave. The doors will remain barred, but I doubt a couple of bracing branches will hold up long against a determined effort to break open the door. In any case the fire can include the bases of the branches bracing the door so they will burn and weaken, ensuring the ghouls can force it open. Once the door is open, they'll just be seeing a whole bunch of fire, which should reinforce the idea that the whole barn is burning. Without windows, etc. they have no better idea what's happening outside than we do about what's up inside.

Karmid Groundbreaker |

I get it. Kind of the reverse of my original idea of luring them in with a bonfire...

Lia Tani |

Well, I'm all for burning the whole place down.
A matter of calculated risks.
There are more in the house, most likely. And we have to see this through. If we are out of resources and retreat, they may well realize their gig is up and either aggressively expand their numbers raiding surrounding farms, or disperse.
What they will not do is let us rest and recover and wait for us to come on a fresh new day.
By that reasoning, Lia wants to conserve our strength and capability as much as possible. If we can burn down the Barn and eliminate the Ghouls inside, without needing to get into direct combat with them, we don't expend resources/health/abilities on that, giving us a better chance against those in the house.
Even IF there is a non-Ghoul prisoner inside the barn, it would be better to make sure they are stopped today, now, rather than risk some getting away because we are too weak.
Looking at our fallen Aasimar and Ameikos brother, the infested patient and Aldern Foxglove, Lia took away that not everybody can be saved. And the longer she waits to act, the more people get involved and die. Trying to save everybody just makes things worse.
She can't express it like that, but thats her emotive state.

Flutter, Figment Sage Butterfly |

(That said, it's how she and I feel, but I'll obviously not sabotage your plan. Lia simply stands by and wonders why you don't build the fire close enough for the barn to burst into flame.(well, unless the fire spreads - if you build it large enough to actually cause damage and not allow them to jump over it - while still funneling them - it DOES have a chance to spread to the Barn))

Drasven Hammers |

I'm fine with letting it roll.

GM BrOp |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Sorry for my delay. I was savagely beaten for two days by an iconic mouse and am still in recovery (i.e. my family and I went to Tokyo Disney).

GM BrOp |

So has everyone moved themselves? I'm assuming so, but want to give everyone a last chance before I begin combat later today or tomorrow.

Drasven Hammers |

Pretty sure I've moved.

Rojava Brishen |

Oh, that's a good point. We do want to be outside the barn door. I guess it could be the other building instead. BrOP, could you place the fire we built on the map?

Karmid Groundbreaker |

Please place your avatar on the map where you'd like to start the combat. The door to the barn (which is the building in the top-right of the map)is located just to the "east" of the lightsource on the outside. The barn doors are about 15' wide (3 squares).
I think we are in the right spot.

Lia Tani |

Well, I am open to suggestions.
Normally, I would try and create a pit on the inside of the barn, in hopes of dropping the burning hay and a few ghouls on their way out into it, but Lia vowed not to use non-instantaneous area spells any more.
I could ready to snowball one that succeeds in paralyzing a target.
Or give luck to a frontliner for double rolls.
Right now, I'm kinda at a loss-

Rojava Brishen |

My apologies again for the long absence. I'm still in the process of buying a house and the number of chores involved doesn't seem to ever get any shorter. It will be over soon though. The deal will be closed and I'll have keys in hand on 10/31. After that things will be getting back to normal.
