DM Carbide |
Eva damages the serpentfolk further, and then Kali takes it down with a spell.
Round 4 (ongoing):
Initiative order
Serpentfolk-acted
Senja
Kali
Eva
Asvald
The remaining serpentfolk retreats and gestures, ending up surrounded by several duplicates of itself.
Party up!
Kali Starr |
Fort Save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
Having used up a good deal of her magic and weakened by poison, Kali hangs back and lets the others deal with the remaining enemy.
Delaying for now. Is it two saves or two consecutive saves for the poison?
DM Carbide |
Two consecutive saves.
Eva Baldursdóttir |
Eva moves smoothly into the room and up to the remaining snake, drawing her sword as she goes. Upon arrival, her blade whistles through the air and collides with... the monster? Or one of its doubles? Or nothing? Moved 45'.
Slish (rage): 1d20 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 11 + 2 = 16
Kali Starr |
Actually, coming out of delay after giving it more thought.
Spellcraft on spell cast by serpentfolk: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Thinking the serpentfolk might have cast a mirror image spell but not quite sure, Kali moves north 15 feet and casts an offensive cantrip to see if it makes any difference on the number of duplicates.
RTA Acid Splash - Melee, no SR: 1d20 + 8 - 4 ⇒ (14) + 8 - 4 = 18
Concealment: 1d100 ⇒ 35
Acid Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 3
Senja Kala |
Senja keeps up his mad laugh, hurrying as fast as his short legs will carry him to see where the fight has taken his friends.
Move action to cackle, move action to move 20' to where green serpent man fell.
Kali - don't forget you get Fortune hex every round, you can recollect one of your d20's from your last turn
Kali Starr |
I wasn't sure if the Fortune was still active. I'll reroll the Spellcraft if the GM is okay with that.
Spellcraft reroll: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
DM Carbide |
Nope.
Kali's spell hits the serpentfolk and leaves a sizzling wound.
Duplicate check, 1=actual: 1d4 ⇒ 1
OK, with all of you on it and no way for it to retreat, the serpentfolk quickly falls. (The only thing I was waiting to see was whether Senja was still going to be in the hallway when the trap came back on line at the end of this round.) Out of combat! Except for Kali's poison saves, of course.
Each serpentfolk has a masterwork dagger, but that's all for treasure in the room. There is a gong hanging on the wall next to the entrance you came through that seems to be tied to the trap.
Kali Starr |
Poison Save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
After the battle with the serpentfolk ends, Kali returns to the previous hallway to pick up her bandolier of shuriken and places it in her Handy Haversack. Then then removes her Mithril shirt and places it in the magical bag as well.
"Hey, anyone got one of those Mage Armor wands left? I'd cast it myself, but I'm running low on magical juice."
Removing the armor places her in the light encumbrance category again. I'll adjust her AC once I know if someone will let her use a charge of Mage Armor.
Just for good measure, the Kitsune also casts Infernal Healing on herself to heal all the non-poison injuries.
36 charges left on IH wand.
Kali Starr |
"Oh yeah, before I forget, let me cast a Message spell on everyone to make sure we don't lose contact again."
Casting Message on whoever allows it.
EDIT: Thanks Eva.
Senja Kala |
Senja stops cackling and joins his friends, happily accepting Kali's message spell.
Looking back at the spiral hallway, he shakes his head and mutters, "Not going that way." Joining the others at the far door, he says, "I guess we see what's through here, no?"
DM Carbide |
The door opens to reveal a short hallway going east before opening into a room with what appears to be a large pit in its center. On the opposite side of the pit is a degenerate serpentfolk!
Round 1:
Initiative order

Eva
Kali
Serpentfolk
Asvald
Everyone but Asvald can act!
Eva Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Kali Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Senja Initiative: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Serpentfolk Initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Senja Kala |
Senja's feet float off the ground and he glides smoothly through the air to the end of the hallway!
Fly hex, move action. Now I'll be able to keep up with you guys and cackle.
Eva Baldursdóttir |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Eva takes in the situation at a glance. Drawing upon her years of training, she sets off down the hall at a dead run. At the last minute, she leaps from the edge of the pit, sailing gracefully over and landing almost on top of the clueless snake. I should totally get the "higher ground" bonus for that! Ki point for +4 to the Acrobatics check.
Acrobatics DC 20: 1d20 + 11 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 11 + 4 = 20
Yikes... good thing I used the ki!
Flying Tackle-Grapple vs FF: 1d20 + 11 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 11 + 3 = 22
That might be the coolest move I've ever gotten to pull off in PFS. :D
DM Carbide |
Awesome!

Kali

Asvald
Senja floats, and Eva nearly floats as she pushes past Asvald and jumps the pit (which she and Senja can now see is filled with a writhing mass of snakes). She's able to grab the unsuspecting serpentfolk before it can act.
Kali, over to you!
DM Carbide |
And have you had it with these m*****-f****** snakes in this m*****-f****** dungeon?
Kali Starr |
You mean these monkey-fighting snakes in this Monday to Friday dungeon?
Impressed by her companions' abilities to fly and acrobatically attack the enemy, Kali just moves into the room to get a better tactical position from which to attack.
Double Move
DM Carbide |
Now that most of you are into the room, you can see that this large chamber has only a narrow walkway around the pit. Four stone statues of giant serpentfolk holding out long glaives stand in shallow alcoves in each corner of the room. There is a lever on the wall next to Eva and the degenerate serpentfolk.

With a guttural roar, the serpentfolk breaks free of Eva's grip, then pulls the lever. All four statues slide forward ten feet (along the north and south sides of the room), then pivot with their glaives out. This catches Kali by surprise, and the kitsune is knocked into the pit. Take 3 HP falling damage, Kali. The statues then slide back into their niches.
Asvald is up!
Bull rush: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (12) + 15 = 27
Falling damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3
DM Carbide |
Sure.

Asvald Bjornson |
Kali really can't catch a break.
Asvald charges into the room.
Double moving. Is the pit climbable? If not Asvald will get a rope out and lower it next turn.
DM Carbide |
The walls of the pit look pretty smooth, and you figure they'd be hard to climb.

Eva Baldursdóttir |
Oops, just saw your reply to my inquiry.
As the snake reaches for the lever, Eva tries to smack him in the nose, but her focus on balancing throws off her aim.

Senja can act!
Senja Kala |
Senja conjures up a crackling ball of energy, causing it to appear in the midst of one of the large swarms of snakes threatening Kali!
Cast aggressive thundercloud. DC 18 Reflex save or take:

Eva and Kali are up!
Swarm damage to Kali: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Snake swarms: AC 15 T 14 FF 13

Eva Baldursdóttir |
Eva attempts to grab the serpentfolk again, but it evades her attack.
Grapple: 1d20 + 11 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 11 + 3 = 18
Bah.
Kali, feel free to use Eva's mystic insight ability to reroll an attack or saving throw on your turn; just mention if you use it so I can subtract from my ki appropriately.
Kali Starr |
Thanks Eva, will do.
Fort Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Ignoring the snakes slithering all over her, Kali steps away 5 feet and casts Burning Hands over both groups of snakes. "I'm really glad I don't have a fear of snakes right now."
Burning Hands Fire damage: 5d4 + 5 ⇒ (4, 2, 2, 3, 4) + 5 = 20
The swarms can make a DC 17 Reflex save for half damage
DM Carbide |
Also a good thing the module designers didn't go with making them venomous snake swarms.
Kali's spell incinerates the swarms! The serpentfolk dodges Eva's attack, draws its heavy mace, and applies it directly to Eva's forehead for 8 HP.

CMD is up to 30 for grappling due to Bastion Stance and Improved Grapple.

Senja Kala |
Senja sends his little stormcloud zooming around Kali to land on the serpentfolk!
Two move actions to double move cloud to serpent guy.

"Thanks!" Kali calls out to Asvald as she sees the rope unfurled towards her, which she then uses to try to climb out.

Climb 2 if the first try failed: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
