DM Carbide |
"I'll tell you how to get to Uzar-Kus, and what I know of him. You can lock me back up here if you don't trust me."
Asvald Bjornson |
"That sounds fair. If your information checks out we'll come back and set you free. Talk."
Kali Starr |
Kali crosses her arms in a defensive manner and taps her foot as she waits for the lying creature to spill its story.
DM Carbide |
"If you take the hallway wesst from here, you will come to a door to the north. It is locked and trapped, so unless you have a ssacred ssymbol of Ydersius to use as a key you will be subject to poison while you attempt to pick the lock. Two of my degenerate cousins patrol the area. The Temple to Ydersius is beyond the door, and Uzar-Kus is likely to be there. He is not a priest, as I am. He iss an arcane casster, a ssorcerer.
"He alsso is a mutant among our kind, born with the mark of Ydersius' favor: he has two heads."
Kali Starr |
"Okay, so unless there's anything else, we're going to lock you back up here until we confirm this information." Kali says to serpentfolk, then looks to the others, "Right?"
DM Carbide |
It nods and backs up against the wall, next to a still-intact set of chains.
Senja Kala |
As Kali takes care of locking up the serpent-folk once again, Senja thinks on their next steps. "Where can we get a holy symbol of Ydersius?" he asks Ziszkaa. "My fox friend here has had enough run-ins with poison in this place." After another moment's thought, he adds, "And this Uzar-Kus, the sorcerer, what kind of magic does he like? Will he try to enchant us or burn us with fire or some other unpleasant trick?"
Senja Kala |
"It does seem rather likely, doesn't it?" replies Eva wryly.
Perhaps I wasn't clear. I was looking for what kind of magic he favors, rather than a yes or no. :P
Asvald Bjornson |
Once Senja's finished his questioning, Asvald secures the woman's chains again.
"Let's verify her information. I feel like we've been in this room for weeks."
DM Carbide |
"He's able to casst fireball, and as far as I know that'ss his mosst powerful sspell. It has been ssome time ssince I was put here, though, so I do not know what other trapss or other devices he has put in place."
Asvald Bjornson |
I think we're ready to strike. Since we're expecting a fireball the evading types should go in first.
Kali Starr |
"I guess we can go check it out." Kali agrees with little enthusiasm. "I'm really tired of getting poisoned though."
DM Carbide |
The passageway west opens up to reveal a large statue of a snake facing a wide (but short) corridor to the north that ends in a pair of golden doors covered in a twisting serpent pattern. As the party approaches the statue, all can hear a faint hissing sound coming from the doors. Of perhaps more pressing concern is a pair of the more bestial-looking serpentfolk coming the other direction.

Serpentfolk
Everyone can act!
Eva Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
Kali Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Senja Initiative: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
Serpentfolk Initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Degenerate serpentfolk: AC 18 T 11 FF 17 CMD 21
Senja Kala |
Senja snaps his fingers and a small, glittering black ball appears in them. He drops the ball, but before it can hit the floor, he kicks it deftly past his companions and sailing down the hall at the latest reptilian arrivals! When the ball strikes the stone wall, it bursts into a shower of shining mica chips, coating the serpentfolk from head to tail!
Cast glitterdust, DC 18 Will save.
Kali Starr |
Kali moves to the front and casts a Scorching Ray at the closest serpentfolk.

Both of the serpentfolk clutch their eyes, blinded by Senja's spell!
Kali, SR check, please.
DC 18 Will save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Eva Baldursdóttir |
Eva glides gracefully forward and attempts to slip by the snake-men into position behind them. I'll use a ki point for a +4 to the check.
Acrobatics vs green FF/blind CMD: 1d20 + 11 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 11 + 4 = 17
Acrobatics vs blue FF/blind CMD +2: 1d20 + 11 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 11 + 4 = 23
After that I'll either attack green or blue, depending on success or failure... I don't have access to their blind-adjusted CMD to know whether the 17 makes the first one. :)
DM Carbide |
Did Kali happen to tell the others how her solo encounters with serpentfolk went?
Kali Starr |
Sure, I don't see why not. Although, to be honest, I'm not sure exactly which aspect of the serpentfolk would be important here.
DM Carbide |
They've got scent, so as soon as Eva moves adjacent to the first one it'll be able to target her.
Eva Baldursdóttir |
Okay, I'll start by moving up adjacent to green, and decide the rest of my move action from there. With the miss chance, he's still got pretty bad odds, but let's just see what happens.

Serpentfolk
Since Eva is trying to move through the enemy's square, the Acrobatics DC increases by 5 unless I've missed something.
Kali's spell burns into the first serpentfolk.
The pedantic monk advances to try to move past the lead serpentfolk. When she gets close enough, though, it positions itself to block her path and forces her to stop; its mace blow goes wide, though.

Damage: 1d8 + 5 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 5 + 2 + 2 = 13
Eva Baldursdóttir |
Very well, he can just get booped then.
Eva frowns at the unseeing snake-man, raising her sword and swinging it forcefully!
Boop: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25
Damage: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
DM Carbide |
Kali - thanks for the reminder; will update. Asvald - the hall is too narrow for you and Eva to both attack.

Asvald Bjornson |
Bah! Damn these 5-foot corridors!
Asvald lowers his sword and gives voice to his raging song instead.
DM Carbide |
Neither of the serpentfolk manage to clear their eyes, and the one in front misses Eva again. The one behind it tries to attack around the corner, but is unable to get a good angle and also misses the monk.

The serpentfolk fails to clear its vision and can't hit anyone, and the party quickly dispatches it.
Out of combat!
Asvald Bjornson |
Wow, this lack of updates thing is complete balls.
"Nice work everyone. Let's keep moving!"
DM Carbide |
Truly. Hoping they get it fixed ASAP. (A few people over in Website Feedback were blaming it on Oladon, which is a bit of a stretch. I think.)
Senja Kala |
(A few people over in Website Feedback were blaming it on Oladon, which is a bit of a stretch. I think.)
I thought it was a pretty compelling case they made against Oladon.
Kali Starr |
"Let's try this door over here first, maybe we'll find one of those holy symbols we need to open the other door." Kali suggests as she positions herself outside the far western door and checks it for traps.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
DM Carbide |
Kali notices that the door is warm to the touch, and the floor in front of it is slick with moisture that's apparently come from under the door. She thinks she can hear a faint sound of splashing water.

Kali Starr |
Kali whispers her findings to the group. Once everyone is lined up behind her, she opens the door.
DM Carbide |
The door slides open, releasing a cloud of hot steam. The misty room contains a steaming pool edged with glistening stones. Unfortunately, the room also contains three serpentfolk, who move to attack!
