In answer to Nuria's challenge, a large serpentine creature drops from the Spire core and lands in a coiled mass on the ground. It appears as a muscular snake with the head of a woman (albeit one with slit pupils and a forked tongue). It casts a spell, and a stroke of lightning emanates from it and catches Eva, Kali, and Nuria. Take 26 HP, DC 16 Reflex save for half damage. The serpentfolk again twists out of Eva's grip and backs away.

Senja steps into the room, notices the large woman-headed snake and mutters, "What the heck is that?" He assumes the thing means them no good, and conjures up a large umbral fork, much like a pitchfork but with only a pair of tines. He hurls it at the snake thing, hoping to pin it to the ground and hamper it in the fight, continuing to laugh like a man unhinged by the knowledge of too many dark secrets.

Eva tags the serpentfolk twice and Asvald hits it once, but it's still alive despite its many wounds. Then Nuria's spell takes hold of the strange creature. Seeing this, the serpentfolk retreats from the fight drawing an AoO from Asvald. Unless Asvald drops it, the two of them reach the mosaic behind the altar; the serpentfolk hisses something, and they disappear in a burst of noisome flame.
Out of combat, maybe.
The pit around the Spire core is filled with a writhing mass of poisonous snakes, but they can't climb out and are easily dispatched with area of effect spells.
There's one door left to go through.

Her fortunate attack seems like it's going to be dead on target, but instead it passes harmlessly through the creature as if it weren't there. Asvald can't seem to connect on his attacks, either.
