Been away from your game a while, kinda got lost in what was happening ... still got too much in my life with this house ... After over 6 months we have eventually goot windows at the front of the house .... We're down to one small en-suite for all the family for all our needs...and now the washing machine can't be used ...
As a parting gift before you left Zanzu will give you the gem and any other party treasure he holds. He seems to want to try his hand at cooking in the guest house ....
I must apologize, but I've not really got as much out of this with Zanzu as I hoped... so probably best I retire or at least take a sabbatical from the game... recharge the gaming lights ...
A shame as I think AK is one of the best pbp DM's on the boards, but it's me and Zanzu not really feeling this ...

No worries Deevor, honestly with your posting rate this was coming from a long way off and I was mentally prepared for it. I'd rather people bow out than hobble along.
Sounds like things are hard right now, you have my sympathies. I agree, Zanzu can be the boarding house cook for now.
Lets catch that drink sometime before I leave Southampton anyway :).

Sorry to see you go Deevor. Hope things straighten out for you soon!

Durin's stance is that until an actual treasure split is done, nothing is official. (This also happens to be my stance as well. :) )
Once we can sell things and do a true split, then even shares will be paid out and claims will be made at that time. Until then, everything is party loot.
You have stated Alex, that you hate "floating" treasure, so I have assigned people to carry everything until the split is done. Nothing more, nothing less.
As for bloat concerns, everyone entered the game with the same amount of wealth. Barak replaced Vincent and Telurion replaced Khun-Duhn. Vincent and KD left with +0 gp. If Zanzu is replaced, the new character will start with the same wealth as everyone else. If Zanzu leaves at +0 it will mean no gains will have been made, so zero bloat. Zanzu leaving with +8000 gp and being replaced by a character at WBL, is draining wealth, not gaining it.
Most of the characters/players remaining in the game are effectively at +0 gp due to the current lack of usable treasure for them. It doesn't seem right to "punish" them by removing useful gear.
As the guy handling the loot at the moment, it is immensely easier for me if we just substitute the replacement characters into the future treasure division. We started with 6 characters at WBL who will be splitting X amount of treasure. If Zanzu is replaced, we will have 6 characters who started at WBL who will be splitting the same X amount of treasure. Anything else is needless complication. :P
Sorry if this is ranting... but I don't want a repeat of some of my other game's wealth gap issues. :P

Didn't actually get a chance to play with you Zanzu, but I hope everything fares well from here onwards. All the best, and it is a shame to see you leave.
I am a new arrival, so I will not voice any detailed opinion - I tend to agree with Durin and Dan though.
On another note, losing Zanzu's skills looks like a blow to the group capabilities that may need consideration - mainly regarding trap detection, disarming, and so forth. No?

Durin Stonehammer |

Not trying to gang up on Alex. I agree it is his call. In a perfect world we wouldn't have players leaving the game. :P
Alas, we cannot control that.
We can drop the ring and move on...

Not certain how much traps play a role in this campaign yet. Right now your in wilderness phase. My advice would be for anyone joining the game to consider obtaining Trapfinding, but don't build a whole character around it.
I'd like Zanzu to keep the ring and thats final. I'd already said I didn't want more discussion on it last night and that I didn't want to go over and over it. I'm not especially keen on justifying myself as GM or my rationale, but for one thing, Zanzu having that ring gives me a little room to add some flavourful treasure of my own, something I enjoy doing. Your not going to lose out from this.
Ansha (player in my Sargava Saga game) is a pretty regular poster (which this game has needed more of I think) and is interested in joining us.
I'm ok either way- not much extra work or hassle for me whether we take a new person or not.

Durin Stonehammer |

Yes, welcome Ansha. Play whatever tickles your fancy I say. :)

So spell prep from me would be.
- Enlarge on Durin and Arachiel (using pearl of power).
- Mage Armor / Mirror Image / Fly on Marcus.
- Invisibility on Barak.
Again, depending on relevant distances we may need to make some changes.
Not sure if we have anything that could increase Durin's AC? He's got a +2 on deflection and natural armor already I gather.
Oh and we need to reallocate pot of neutralise poison.

DM Alexander Kilcoyne |

When is Barak drinking his potions?
So Barak is moving into position under invisibility, Marcus and Kiri are flying to join him once he has had some time to get there?
Your a reasonably well oiled team. For durations I think i'll just deduct 1 minute from the total of everything. I've never seen minute/level spells not last a combat anyway.

Need the answers to these questions before its go time. Also- once Barak is in position, does he have a signal? Are you just planning to delay for a minute to give him time to get there and then start marching up the wagon trail?
Need a bit more detail, preferably IC for the latter questions.

Nice post. One small caveat; Shield is a Personal spell and thus can't be cast on others via the wand. If they can use the wand themselves, by virtue of arcane spellcaster levels or Use Magic Device, you can get around this though.
Your bonus to UMD is very high but remember you still can't take 10- i'll roll it on your behalf at least twice to get the spell off.

Telurion |

I had intended the wand more for a personal use but then thought it a nice addition to others' defenses. Dang that I forgot about the 'Personal' stuff... Living (playing) and learning I guess ;)
Fingers crossed for a 4+ on that roll. The DC to activate the wand should be 20, correct?

Oh and I backed one of the froggodgames kickstarters and got an email recently with a link to the following handrawn world map. Noted it had the Desolation and Tsar in there in comparison to Bards Gate which is pretty neat.

I'd rule DR works against tentacle damage. Its physical in nature being dealt by the tentacles themselves, and untyped damage is usually what you apply DR against. Its when its specifically called out (such as elemental) that it doesn't usually apply. Tentacle damage going through DR would be insanely good to what is already a great crowd control spell :)

Dan E |

Heh. We might need to clarify how you treat illusion interactions as I think it was different for the basilisk fight? Afterwards anyways there was no chance of it lasting more than a round.
Just to clarify the climbers have ditched swords? Hopefully a little less scary with slams.
Just in case Barak is unaware.
While climbing, you can’t move to avoid a blow, so you lose your Dexterity bonus to AC (if any). You also can’t use a shield while climbing. Anytime you take damage while climbing, make a Climb check against the DC of the slope or wall. Failure means you fall from your current height and sustain the appropriate falling damage.
Getting shades of the great cannibal fight here. Loving it so much.
