Not checked it but I think the Gem of Seeing isn't something you could easily sell in the camp. Purchase limit of 7,500GP.

I doubt we would be selling it, regardless of whether we actually could or not, as it is likely just too useful to have where we will be going and doing what we will be doing. :)

The clarification I am asking for is, is Zanzu wishing to claim it as part of his own personal treasure share or is he fine with just carrying it? Leaving it as kept party treasure? There is a difference. :)

(Barak is carrying the party's dimensional shackles already for example.)

Seeing as how it is worth 75,000 gp, accounting for significantly more than all the other treasure found to date combined, I assume the latter. :P

Where is everyone? Not many posts lately. :(

Zanzu will carry it ... otherwise he'd owe you all for the rest of the adventure. I'm sure there will be plenty of pockets to pick, once we get into town ... oh, we're going back into the wilderness ... oh! <smiles>

What are your plans after resting for the night?

Arachiel's all for going back out into the desolation, where things are up-front with their wanting to kill you.

Any particular destination in mind? I at least need to know which quadrant your making a foray into.

Don't we have another PC to introduce?

As for a destination, checking in on the real Vincent seems appropriate and then exploring the surrounding area there makes sense to me.

Work has got me by the throat but will be able to post shortly.

We do need to come to a consensus on the gem (from a player perspective as far as Marcus knows the illusionist still has it), its significantly more value than the rest of our treasure combined. Practically though working out treasure shares only makes a difference when we can sell/buy so everyone should just take whats most useful until that point.

Marcus was going to present a plan that involved going into the se quadrant, hitting what looks like clear landmarks on the map on the way to the tree-grove thing which looks like its the ranger allies who I'm assuming are druids. That was on the basis that they also might make good allies and we don't know exactly where these dwarves may be. I'll introduce that in character when I get a moment. We could do that on the way back to the tower. I mentioned landmarks around that in a previous post IC.

One key thing is whether we want to hire the mercenaries now we know they have nefarious aims. I'll suggest that IC as well.

I would like to hit the market on the off chance I can find a scroll of haste (and learn it if so). I'd like to check out what potiions the hag has as well before we depart.

We should factor in returning within Vincent's week.

Marcus has 800gp (I think that was it) to lend to Durin. I can take back from group loot.

Endorse Durin's plan for rings of protection. I'd like one but will wait behind meleers.

I was under the impression that the gem theft did not go unnoticed by us as it wasn't part of a sleight of hand but rather a steal combat maneuver (that we would likely be familiar with with Zanzu). If he was intending on keeping it a secret from us then we would at least get perception checks to notice no? :)

Followed by sense motive checks for the inevitable uncomfortable questions that would surely follow. ;)

I'm not looking forward to calculating shares right now anyhow. :)

The market and the apothecary is a good idea. We also really need to come up with a solution for the acid rain if we can. :P

We found 880 iron bits in the Benders stash, which Durin used 800 of to restore his arm. The 800 gp of Marcus' can be added to the 1200 gp we found in the boarding house to convert via the one time preferred exchange rate offered by the Usurer.

We can finalize plans IC.

AK, I've thrown around some background notes regarding Telurion - find them below for your perusal :D

Diplomacy (Gather Information regarding 'the Army of Light, the city of Tsar and events in those dark times long ago...'): 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (10) + 14 = 24

Some Background:

In fact, there had never been much drama in Telurion's life - born unto a modest trading family, everyone around him realized very early that there was something special about the boy.

The hurt and sick would tend to converge around him, as if he was some sort of beacon for pain - at the age of four, his mother would constantly scold him for always sitting around playing in the worst off possible places, surrounded by diseased cats, dogs and birds that somehow seemed to always gather around him, as if it was simply a safe place for them. Those lucky enough to be overlooked by his parents, and allowed to stick around for a longer time would surprisingly improve, ever so slowly, in an almost imperceptible way they would get better.

Fact is, most would not even notice, but he did - the boy noticed, and he smiled - he smiled everytime a wounded bird would take flight again, or when a pup, found almost starved days before would regain its playful nature, biting his hand in provocation - when things were as they should be, he would smile.

He made no effort to hide it - why would he? He felt only joy at being able to set things right, as he would tell himself, in a four year old simplest of views of life - but it did go unnoticed. After all, these were nothing but stray animals, indifferent to everyone, but not to him...

As years went by, things could not go unnoticed for much longer - his father owned one or two general stores in the city, but he also dealt with a couple of stalls in the markets throughout the city - he had no qualms in dealing with the most modest of traders, which endeared him to most - this was the side of his father business that the boy enjoyed the most. He found himself requesting his parents' authorization to follow the trading distribution routes that took him to these lower stalls, and contacting with lesser merchants - there was no reason for him to be denied, and soon he became well known in the smaller circles of those that negotiated with his family - he never said much, simply wandering through the stalls while the wares were peddled and traded - much to his surprise he quickly became known around the same markets he enjoyed wandering through.

People would respond positively to his presence, and always greet him in the best way possible - some rumours beginning to spread quickly regarding the young one touched by the divine, whose mere presence had made Old Nessies' coughing fits stop as if they had never even existed in the first place. Exaggeration was bound to happen, but the base line was true - there was something about him, he could feel it seeping through his pores and his veins - and he had to share it - so he kept on going places and contacting as many people as he could and, he expected, bringing a measure of light to their lifes.

Soon after though, he realized that peoples' expectations cannot be sated with mere smiles and good intentions - the expectations about him started to rise - after a certain point, his joyful presence was not enough, there was actual sickness, and death... He got in touch with his limitations, and for the first time in his life he became strongly aware of what he could NOT do, instead of what he was able to accomplish - even though he had never preached to be some sort of miracle healer, he felt dissapointed in himself, even if the others did not. Not one to give in to desperation, he felt he needed to know more, mainly about himself, and about what he was and could accomplish.

But it would have to wait - first things first, he set out to meet all those he had contacted with and set things straight - for those who the reality of what he was was inflated, he explained the truth of it - he was able somehow to exude or bring about well being, but he had limitations, he knew he was not a priest, and he felt he was not a creature of the Gods (though he could not say it with certainty) - above all, he made his best to make sure there were no false expectations from the people that he had come to respect and cherish - he was surprised at how well he was received and understood - his decision already made on the necessity of self knowledge, he was reinforced by those who urged him onwards - words like "You are so much more than you think you are boy" and "We will still be here and miserable in a couple of years Telurion - do come back and see us even if you find you are as common as any, because for us you know you are not" lifted his spirit high, and made him more resolute than ever.

His first objective was the church - it made sense to associate his will and inspiration to the divine, but the answers he was looking for were not as complete as he would have wished - Father Zanius, a follower of Thyr did make it quite clear though that "There are many agents of the divine Telurion - some of them unaware of what they are almost all of their lifes" - he smiled - "Perhaps the answers you seek are well within you instead of out there somewhere in a library, or inside the head of any sage of this world - the will of the Gods is not explanated or analyzed - it is FELT"

Telurion did not feel attuned to the teachings of this or that deity - he did search, and he did follow Father Zantius advice - exploring both his inner conscience as much as asking for advice where he could find it, but soon it became evident that he would not find the answers so simply, and he departed.

As much as he thought he knew of Life, and its mysteries, nothing could prepare the headstrong boy that left the gates of his hometown that day for how little he knew - his travels showed him the many daunting shades of grey of the world, but this did not deter or confound his purpose, instead steeling his resolve to delve deeper unto himself and his knowledge of that biggest mistery of all, as he travelled further and further, playing the part of a warrior here, of a militia man there, and even of an Hospitaler in charge of the sick for months in a village further ahead.

His powers gained shape and manifestation, and he understood his role was not only one of appreciating or admiring Life - his role was to protect it in its form and manifestation of Light - his mind and heart felt ease in this, and as his self-knowledge grew, so his action began showing more intent - instead of a wandering, he embarked on a search - he started viewing his obsession of self knowledge as secondary when it came to offering his service to a border town, or his assistance in tending wounded in an off the path monastery - the actions and the difference they made became more important than his own inner interrogations that lead to it in the first place - he found a joy and a focus he had never felt before.

Not all things were of light during his travels - there are many dark holes and wills throughout the wide expanse of this world, and he has tackled more than one that have left deep marks in him, as much as he embraces them as another part of his own mistery. These he does not share, considering his burden one to be carried alone, and not weighing on someone elses' shoulders. He is the one there to alleviate others of theirs - not the other way around.

Finding purpose did much for Telurion, allowing him to live and walk his life with confidence in what he sought - it did not however quench his thirst for understanding - it would seem that as much as his own alignment with the Essences and Mysteries of Life grew, and he found himself capable of surprising deeds, his wanderlust and need to travel the far corners of the world increased with it - he found many answers, but even more important to him, he found many more questions.

He is happy trekking the world - it allows him to carry his protector of Life role, walking next to strong willed and good hearted men and women, it allows him to go where he believes he is needed - as seemingly random as it may seem at times, he has come to believe that his presence, and actually where one finds oneself in a particular moment, follows a flow, and underlying tie - it does not need to be unraveled, not even understood, but for Telurion, it is to be enjoyed.

Telurion found out about all the uproar around Bishu's fate through the inner channels of the church. In spite of not being a Paladin nor a Cleric himself, for a long time now he had understood that the very energy of Life that permeates all, could be channeled through him - his endeavours had naturally brought him close to the churches of Muir and Thyr while, in his younger years, he tried to understand what he was, and why he was able to channel such power - many within the church had played na important part in his quest for self-knowledge, but none like Father Zanius, the one responsible for actually setting him on his current path.

The same Zanius that he had come to admire, for his dedication and persistance in his religious diligences, even though the church was now so very far from what it had been before - "This may be something unique Telurion" - he had told him - "It may change most of what we know thus far about the Army of the Light..." - the man beamed with a newfound glow and vigour - "As well as renew the resolve and faith of so many - this is world changing my friend"

Telurion smiled while they talked, and even though not a particularly pious or religious one, he felt drawn by his friends' words - he did not share that amazing optimism, but he did admire the man - "Tell me what I can do to help Zanius. You have changed my life many years ago. It is a debt that I know you will never charge, and not one I will ever be able to repay, but I want to do this. Not for any god or higher purpose, but for you my friend"

Hence, Telurion would have found of the group sent to uncover the fate of the Paladin Lord Bishu, and headed out to meet them :D

What do you think?

Its good but with all the drama this group has been through lately, i'd like you to be somewhat more known to them if possible.

Perhaps Arachiel could have been an acquaintance? Or even a respected traveling companion? That might be another compelling reason for Telurion to go after the group.

Wouldn't hurt if Telurion had forayed with at least Arachiel before, if not the others too. We've kind of assumed the group are quite well established and have various members drifting in and out of their troupe. Makes it easier to have replacements when I kill characters (Not an if. This campaign is pretty brutal especially down the line).

Big post shortly just need to sit through a few meetings.

Dunno what people think but possible buys from the hag IMO are the potion of neutralise poison and barkskin. Noone can cast the former so I'd rather be safe than sorry. The barkskin is cheap and a decent buff for a big fight.

My IC post is a collection of things I've been thinking about for a while. Taking the tower and now having a building at the camp made me think it would be neat to set up safe places all over and recruit friendly people to keep them.

It could all be a terrible idea and I'm more than half just going off what looks interesting on the map so I'm not going to be upset at suggested alterations. People may think in particular that locating the dwarves is a higher priority or going back to Vincent. My thinking is that we would just be basically wandering around looking for the dwarves and if there are a bunch of powerful druids they may be our best source of information about the Desolation generally (and we could possibly find the dwarves through them). Solve the ghost problem and we make Vincent safer by extension.

One thing I'm very hazy about is potential sidequests that other people seem to have. Arachiel had something about a relic of somekind? If my proposed plan ignores that its only because I don't know about it.

For the gem thing I'm proceeding on the basis that Marcus doesn't know anything unless Zanzu says something. Sammuel said that the illusionist had it not one of the other brothers. Will be a bit annoyed if it doesn't get used when appropriate though :)

Those were my thoughts on the gem as well.

Fine by me.

At 75K its sale value is nearly twice our individual wealth. Awesome to have obviously but its one of those things that breaks our loot system.

At a purely meta level I'm not sure Zanzu is the best one to hold it given he likes to double claw things but fine to leave things the way they are.

Unless Zanzu intended (and states explicitly) otherwise, I am assuming that his possession of the gem is known to all as the steal attempt was done in the open. Given that, Marcus is free to petition (IC) Zanzu and the group for a change of carrier. :)

So.... Am I there yet? :D

Sovereign Court

Weekends are slow; especially as I have had an old friend moving in with me :).

Yeah, I know that :D

On my neck of the woods, we've had the first sunny day in quite some time (about 24 degrees Celsius) - so today was time to get my slippers and shorts out of the closet, and hit the beach.

I was just wondering if Telurion would arrive at the inn without further ado, or if there were some surprises along the way ;)

The Hanged Man has been itching to get a lone traveller at night :).

And here I just thought they'd taken him down.

Sure, if you live you can exchange longspear for bardiche.

I'm sorry. I hope that Telurion doesn't die but I do find really funny the idea that we come out in the morning to find a dead aasimar. Who knows you could go through a whole string of characters just trying to meet up with the group.

This is gonna sound odd, but I was laughing my head off at the idea - I can picture you guys coming out and commenting - "Hey, was that guy there yesterday?", and Arachiel - "I think I know him..."

Getting past this hanged man could be my way to test characters - the one that survives is the one worth playing - culling the weak and all that :D
