Yikes. Sorry to hear that Max. Get better soon.
My own excuses are far more mundane. To be completely honest i've been feeling pretty low this week and have completely lacked the motivation to update, despite having an abundance of time.
I'll try to keep momentum up once more. Sorry about that.

That sucks Max! Hope you feel better soon!
You too Alex! Hope your spirits pick up!
Durin Stonehammer
And rob Durin of his revenge? :)
EDIT: And in all seriousness isn't it possible that Barak, K-D and Durin might kill the ghost and therefore save Arachiel a smite? That might come in handy... in say... the next room... or the room after that? :)
Khun-duhn
Sorry for the absence, folks. I've had some health issues for the past few weeks that prompted multiple trips to the hospital for tests (October's been a bad month - first the pneumonia and now some mystery illness). So far everything's come up inconclusive, but it's been pretty stressful nevertheless. Today is the best I've felt in three weeks, so hopefully whatever I've got is on the mend. Should be back to regular posting now (fingers crossed!).

Scary stuff Max! :(
Wishing you a speedy and complete recovery!
Durin Stonehammer
Tell me about it... :P
...and very true. :)
I think KD is up. Durin opened a "door" for him ;)
Durin Stonehammer
Sorry to hear it Dan. :(
My thoughts are with you!
Durin Stonehammer
Just a heads up, I will be out of town from Thursday to Sunday and will have little to no internet or time to post during that time. Please DMNPC my character as needed after Wednesday night*. Thanks.
*Think we can kill the barghest by end of day tomorrow? :)

I am going to get much more aggressive with the botting of players soon. This round i've been a lot more lenient because my router broke and i'm waiting on it to be repaired. Managing to use my iPad as a wifi hotspot but thats only going to last until tomorrow.
I've said it before, i'm really sold on this campaign. If your not feeling it, I do completely understand (and will accept both critiscism and the fact that perhaps its not well suited to PbP format) but I am going to try to push on and keep momentum going. I recall the excitement I had playing Legacy of Fire under Dan E and I think a lot of it was to do with the continual momentum of the game.
Lack of momentum is a game killer, frankly. If we can't manage 1 post a day even for a combat round with 5 people waiting, we're doing this wrong. I (router problems notwithstanding) have the time to make frequent updates but I can't really do so when i'm waiting on players so often.
Of course, RL happens; and i'm especially sympathetic with illness, travel etc- but do try and let me know you'll need botting in this period.
I recently read Painlord's Building a Better Doomed Hero topic, which is a guide to PbP built off the truly excellent topic made by Doomed Hero (Link). His anecdote Always be Pushing strikes particularly true; its not purely down to the DM to be giving the game momentum. We're all in this together :).
Edit: Please forgive me if i'm being too pushy on this but after having to pretty much drag it kicking and screaming out of Aron (aka Overfiend/Lord Vincent) that he was not enjoying the game I feel the need to make things clear... If someone is not having fun they are under no obligation to keep playing- i'm having a great time DMing for everyone and i'd rather lose a player who is not enjoying themselves than make them feel obliged to continue to play. I feel PbP is the richest role-playing format there is and when it goes well it is incredibly rewarding.

I agree 110%. :)

Just read the links... good stuff. I do strive to implement many of the things discussed, but I am sure I can do even better.
I would like to say I am immensely enjoying the game and would love to see the pace pick up, if for that reason alone. :)
As I am sure you can tell, I am usually itching to post...
(And you can see what happens when I have too much time on my hands. ;) )
I look forward to playing this game with such an excellent group of players and DM!

I've sent a note to Alex saying I am in full agreement with his approach (notwithstanding my shame spiral at his too kind references to my game). I really enjoy the game (to the point a large part of me wants to go cheat and buy all of the modules).
Sorry about the pit and potential further delay to things but it seemed like a pretty good chance someone would be going down next round. If it falls in we should have a chance to heal and possibly run its blink down.
Edit: Oh and sole remaining combat spell is black tentacles. Assume you'd rather see the pit than that.
Marcus Claudius Marcellus
One more small thing. Maybe a bit cheeky but assuming anyone can actually hit its AC again wondering if the glitterdust would help to improve miss chance? Saying so only as I was going through my options and remembered I had a see invisibility scroll which reduces the miss to 20%. It may work completely differently though.

The group is up... You have 24 hours. One more decent hit should end this. Otherwise, I am likely to take someone out next round :O.

I think Alex is inadvertently influencing your decision making process with faulty intel. :D
Oh sure he might like to think the Barghest has us in a precarious position, but I don't think the numbers support it. :)
A quick check of the party members current status reveals:
(complete accuracy not guaranteed)
- Arachiel at full HP (64/64) and is in melee, threatened with full attack
- Zanzu at full HP (52/52) and is in melee, threatened with full attack
- Durin is wounded but has plenty of HP left (76/100) and is in melee, threatened with full attack
- Khun-duhn is wounded but has decent HP left (32/50) and is not in melee
- Barak is wounded but has decent HP left (36/60) and is not in melee
- Marcus at full HP (51/51) and is not in melee, while also protected by images
And of course we likely know who the Barghest will be targetting next round. ;)
What's done is done, but Durin for one will be rooting for the Barghest to make his reflex save and avoid the fall, so that he can smash it with his LAST round of RAGE. ;)
Marcus Claudius Marcellus
That was in the back of my mind although I did think Durin and Khun-dunh were lower. I was also not quite sure what to make of its curious taunt.
I figure it makes the save and has to move, limiting it to one attack and providing a bunch of AOOs that hopefully end it.
Or it fails and has to climb out past the orb by which time its blink should have ended and we have time to heal anyone up out of crit range.
What it undoubtedly does is potentially delay the fight further sorry.

Never been entirely sure of my interpretation on staying on the squares that the pit inhabits but A- it does not displace the initial material, B- I interpret it as bracing against the walls somewhat and C- i'm still making him roll a reflex save every round he does it; without the +2 bonus.
Marcus Claudius Marcellus
So I assume your exploring the place. Need to know if your doing this in some system, and who is taking lead if your going together...
Question- who still has a surviving horse? I know Barak and Arachiel's tragically passed.
Looks like Barak is leading the way upstairs although I'll leave Kiri to scan this level.
I've been casting mount but I think all of the actual horses have joined the choir invisible.
Your approach to the pit is the only one I could ever come up with either.
