It is a mundane armor modification... by the dwarven master smiths of the Ninth Battalion....
If such a Faction or an equivalent one exists in this campaign.. then Durin can have spent some time attached to them before joining the PC party.
Or he could have recovered the armor from a fallen member of the Battalion. ;)
Thoughts?

Durin Stonehammer |

Ok. Sounds good.
Thanks

Going agile will depend if Khun-duhn is willing to cast magic fang on Kakrak, and to get close enough to touch Kakrak when the spell is needed.
Whilst the extra damage of +3 or +9 max per round, is really useful, and could be augmented by further dex improvements, Kakrak's real damage is done by his precision attacks 4d6, unless this is one of those adventures where the rogue says, "After you, these things don't have any organs I can disable to bring death to them quickly. So you go ahead and hit it hard."
I like the idea of agile... just want to make sure he has magic attacks too.

DM Alexander Kilcoyne |

If not Agile i'd simply recommend something else that isn't a direct +, simply due to the amulet's limiting factor. To be fair though, he doesn't get Greater Magic Fang until level 15.
A possible solution is permanency magic fang if financially feasible, but I make no guarantees it won't be dispelled (assuming the caster has sufficient knowledge of the spells on you).
At minute/level though, 7 minutes is pretty good.

Down to spending the last few gold pieces.
I do want to give sickening a try out but at the end of the day just not sure how much undead we will need to face.
I've dropped the persistent rod, exchanging it for a lesser extended, cloak to +2 and a cure light wound wand. Thinking about another one or two utility ones maybe enlarge person, ill omen and or unbreakable heart.

Durin was born ready! ;)

![]() |

Sorry for the silence the last couple of days, I had a personal matter to attend to.
As far as being ready, outside of cobbling togething a bit more background (which should in no way hold-up the start of the game), I am ready to go.

Marcus Claudius Marcellus |

Need to write background again (lost it twice already through server shenanigans) but ready to go.
Aron I note you have at least one UC spell on your list which DM banned above (maybe you talked about it?).
I figure we have a mix of wilderness and dungeon exploring in front of us so I've taken rope trick as a camping spell. If people have issues with that let me know (and I won't spend the cash or spell slot).
As above, assume we're all going to need a mount of some sort or be walking with the dwarf. I've grabbed phantom steed for myself which can go 14 hours extended. I can also cast mount so I guess can be deemed to have done that for others to get where we are going. Bit tough on the spell slots after we start though.
Betwen oracle, paladin and two cure light wounds wands I think we look pretty good on the healing side. Hoping to use my familiar to stabilise people and such to save PC actions.
Lastly as the flimsy wizard I want to the thank the rest of you all for the great wall of beef you represent. If we TPK in the first encounter. It was an honour to serve.

Durin Stonehammer |

Durin glances about at the assembled group. He locks his hammer into his gauntlet and heaves "Ol' Painless" onto his shoulder before breaking out into a big smile. Your sentiment returned a thousand fold friend mage! He makes a fist with his open hand and crosses his arm across his chest a bow his head in a dwarven warrior's salute.
Looking up again he adds with a mischievous flicker in his eyes, Now lets go smash some things!

Durin Stonehammer |

That is what I was just going to say. :)

Last things is checks.
Marcus History: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
Familiar History: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23
Gather Information: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20
Edit: I wrote into my background a particular interest in the armies of the light so good that the diceroller playing ball with that.

Durin Stonehammer |

Offering libations and burnt offerings to the PBP gods that this game may begin as soon as is possible!
I am stoked to get started! ;)

Last reminder- this is very much an old-school kind of game with a heavy emphasis on sandbox. For example, i've detailed some locations within the Camp that you are in the immediate vicinity of as you arrive but please don't assume thats all there is to this place. Whether out in the Desolation or in the Camp itself, i'll be expecting you to take initiative and be curious; don't wait for me to throw things at you, the world will react to you.
And a final caution- being an old-school kind of game, don't expect everything to be CR appropriate. A particular caution goes out to Talomyr; I would exercise far more caution and discretion than the typical Paladin :).
Finally- I can only hope that you will frequently check the group site, especially the maps. I am putting markers on the map of The Camp for example, that link to wiki entries for places of significance. Should you want to take your own notes on events or people (and I strongly encourage you do so, theres a huge amount of depth to this campaign), please go ahead (assuming the Obsidian Portal site allows you to do so on current permissions) :).

There's a reason my back-up character is so close to completion. ;)

My macros are up and running. Give a holler if you see mistakes.
Dan, your familiar gets its own initiative score.

Durin's perception is +11 (not +7)
Init is correct at +2

Dan E |

My bad but init should be +10 with ioun stone (which I swapped in when persistent rod went out). Equally though I probably wasn't wandering into town with the strange rock circling my head so good for combat.
Familiar perception should be + 13: base is +9, + 4 for my extra ranks). (sorry didn't carry from skills up to top of stat block).

DM Alexander Kilcoyne |

Changes made. I will be fairly rigorously enforcing 24 hour rule (assuming my own activity doesn't decline in which case i'm more lenient) as I want to keep the momentum up.

I can volunteer to keep the XP log if that is ok with everyone.
I can also handle the mapping as well...
We will also need a loot meister...
And a lore keeper...

Both bite and claws are primary weapons given in the table and descriptions in Natural Attacks and includes the example:
Format: bite +5 (1d6+1), 2 claws +5 (1d4+2), 4 tentacles +0 (1d4+1); Location: Melee and Ranged.
I did try and look at this before the build.
