That is concerning. I hope she is ok.

Zokama |

Got to my new place; still need to unpack, but should be back to mostly normal by tomorrow. I appreciate the bots. :)

Musami Forgeborn |

All good here

Musami Forgeborn |

Has anyone herd from GM Darkblade? I hope everything is ok.

GM Darkblade |

Sorry guys, been down with a MRSA lung infection and my laptop was stolen, because if I am sick then obviously that's the best time to rob me right.
Getting a new laptop set up, will take a few days to get it back up to snuff.
I apologize for my absence. Hopefully the worst of it is over. I will work on the campaign offline tonight and post back from the library tomorrow with the next scene. May have to take it without maps, my backup drive is missing too so I will need to have the laptop before I can download replacement files.

GM, that is a terrible course of events. I hope you feel better very soon. Take your time. I was just concerned that something was wrong.

I am with Musami on this. We were genuinely concerned. MRSA is not something to mess with. Take care of yourself, and we will live in theater of the mind as you need to pace for YOUR HEALTH.
Taking care of onesself is the most important thing, a game can wait. We understand.
I am offline until Sunday after this, so please do take care. I will see everyone Sunday.

Zokama |

Flying to Vancouver in the morning to help my brother. Not sure if I will have a chance to post from there or not, so might be essentially offline until the 4th. Apologies for the late notice. Please bot me as needed.

(back)

Musami Forgeborn |

Hopefully I live through it. Do we get the level straight away, or when we get back to town?

GM Darkblade |

Pretty much after the encounter, once the memorial has been restored, though the trip back to town should be uneventful. I would advise going back to town before returning to the moat house, but that's up to the party.
Just remember, there are more ways to defeat an encounter than simply killing everything in it for XP. That's one of the biggest lessons lost in the move from 1st edition AD&D to Pathfinder...

Musami Forgeborn |

I am a fighter and a rather blunt instrument at that.
When all you have a is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

House rule on Health Status for players, allies, and BBEGs.
Since HP is a bit meta, here is a rough outline of how I would inform one another about a particular character's HP total, given a successful Heal check.
HP Remaining
100-86% "Okay, fine, steady"
85%-66% "Wounded, hurt, wobbly"
65%-51% "Bloodied, pained, stumbling "
50%-21% "Badly injured, battered, off-balance"
20% or less "Dying, beaten, on last legs"
Thoughts?

Musami Forgeborn |

That seems very reasonable GM

Navith Kanhai |

Very reasonable, given in the other Greyhawk game I am in we use this:
Healthy
A character above her grazed threshold (3/4 of her maximum hit points) is healthy, applying no special modifiers. The character doesn't gain a condition in this state.
Grazed
A character above her wounded threshold (1/2 of her maximum hit points) but at or below 3/4 of her maximum hit points is grazed. She takes a –1 penalty on all attack rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks, as well as to AC and caster level.
Wounded
A character above her critical threshold (1/4 of her maximum hit points) but at or below 1/2 of her maximum hit points is wounded. She takes a –2 penalty on all attack rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks, as well as to AC and caster level.
Critical
A character at or below 1/4 of her maximum hit points is in critical condition. She takes a –3 penalty on all attack rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks, as well as to AC and caster level.
Disabled
A character with a Constitution score of 12 or higher who is at or below 0 hit points is disabled until she falls below a number of hit points equal to the negative of her Constitution modifier. For example, a character with a Constitution score of 18 would be disabled from 0 to –4 hit points and unconscious at –5 hit points. A character with a Constitution score of 11 or lower is disabled only while she has exactly 0 hit points.
Staggered
Instead of being staggered only when their amount of nonlethal damage equals their remaining hit points, characters using this system continue to be staggered from that point until their nonlethal damage exceeds their current hit points by an amount greater than their Constitution bonus, at which point they fall unconscious. A character with a Constitution score of 11 or lower is staggered only when her nonlethal damage exactly equals her current hit point total.
Fairly debilitating as we are currently still 1st level...

GM Darkblade |

Yeah I've played in a game or two like that, didn't care for all the additional math needed to keep everyone straight.
That said I suppose I am nearly as harsh, throwing Skeletal Champions or Zombie Lords at the party without indicating This is a Zombie Lord or That is a Juju Zombie, since technically as relatively inexperienced characters you "shouldn't" know the differences yet.
Still, if I expect players to know when to retreat I must also keep that in mind for the enemy, to know their objectives, to keep to their own morale, and not simply act as blood-thirsty sociopaths standing toe to toe until they or you fall, save in cases where that is their nature already.

Zokama |

No worries. :)

Musami Forgeborn |

Health first

Filnefillan "Fil" Lotusbow |

Fil's plan is simple. Let the others back away, and allow Fil to advance. Zokama probably has the best diplomacy rolls, so she should lead the group in this.
As she does so, everyone else should make an aid another check, as we are desperately trying to end this without violence and gaining a font of info.
To top it off, Fil will kNeel before him, stating that we are not bad people. He has done him no harm and is unarmed. If he truly is awful, then strike hime down.
This should fizzle out any lies that they told him.

Navith Kanhai |

Ok sure, but that is Fil's plan - unexplained to the rest of the party. At this stage, Navith has seen three people, including himself, give the big man plenty of opportunity to see sense and/or surrender. At this point he's ready to start firing fire bolts or his supreme 2d4 burning hands of doom until he or Kobort is dead. It's been a looong day.

Filnefillan "Fil" Lotusbow |

I think those burning hands are about to happen. As a side note, Fil does have potions of healing in his backpack, which is kind of why he dropped it by Musami.
That and I think Fil might be about to die. This is a good way to go out if so, because it's on his terms trying to make peace, and trying to show Xaod that war is not the only way. Perhaps even convert Xaod.

Navith Kanhai |

I really thought at least one of you would have considered Take 10 for the main roll, using your best negotiator, and then focused on buffing the chances of the Aid Another checks.
Sure, if folks had known that was possible, though personally I wouldn't have tried it -I tend to avoid it as a) some GM's don't allow it and b) it feels a bit meta to me. Also it is quite difficult in PbP when rounds are a thing that take a long time to process to work out if your are Aiding Another or making a discrete check, and on top of that, some GM's conflate discrete checks into one attempt.
Given that Zokama and Navith are new, "using the best negotiator" might have been a stretch for the group to determine let alone choose or nominate, especially in the heat of battle/social interaction with greataxes and dying party members.
Still, all's well that ends with us lying in the mud. Life happens, then Kobort is a stupid oaf with a party after him.

GM Darkblade |

You may now consider yourselves 4th level characters. Please update your characters and tags here on the website. You are at full health, and your memorized spells and abilities are restored fully, though at your 2nd level ranks. You will still need to get a full night's rest and go through the normal leveling up steps to add new spells or abilities to your repertoires.
Feel free to ask any questions here, or by PM as desired.

Zokama |

Zokama Leveling from 2 to 4:
BAB +2
HP +10
+1 to all saves
+1/1/3 spells known, and and one second level per day.
bardic performances +4
+1 feat (rapid shot)

gain bonus spell (Zone of Truth)
+18 skill points [perception (2), appraise (4), climb, diplomacy (2), disable device (3), knowledges (5) (dungeoneering, engineering, nobility, planes, religion), and sleight of hand.]
still have to add in the spell stuff, and check my bardic performances, but the rest should be updated on the sheet.
Oh, and that bump in perception would make my perception roll in gameplay a 25, if skills kick in immediately.

Toruk the Traveler |

Toruk's fourth level stats are posted in his profile. He added the feats power attack and furious focus. Skill points were placed in perception, sense motive, climb and swim.

Fil would like time with the spellbooks before selling them (a few days of rest are needed for him, he really needs to get his CON back up). Once back in Hommlet he plans on indicating this.
Regarding that, GM (although anyone can read):
I opened my pdf of the core rulebook and the prd and read up on the rules of copying spells (I usually play clerics and rogues). If I read this correctly, I can attempt to copy his higher level spells into Fil's spellbook. Fil would be unable to cast them, of course, much like a physics student learns about the item before putting it to use, or am I reading this incorrectly? How would you prefer to run this?
He also plans on deciphering the second spellbook after ensuring it isn't trapped.
Spells Copied from Another's Spellbook or a Scroll: A wizard can also add a spell to his book whenever he encounters one on a magic scroll or in another wizard's spellbook. No matter what the spell's source, the wizard must first decipher the magical writing (see Arcane Magical Writings). Next, he must spend 1 hour studying the spell. At the end of the hour, he must make a Spellcraft check (DC 15 + spell's level). A wizard who has specialized in a school of spells gains a +2 bonus on the Spellcraft check if the new spell is from his specialty school. If the check succeeds, the wizard understands the spell and can copy it into his spellbook (see Writing a New Spell into a Spellbook). The process leaves a spellbook that was copied from unharmed, but a spell successfully copied from a magic scroll disappears from the parchment. If the check fails, the wizard cannot understand or copy the spell. He cannot attempt to learn or copy that spell again until one week has passed. If the spell was from a scroll, a failed Spellcraft check does not cause the spell to vanish.
In most cases, wizards charge a fee for the privilege of copying spells from their spellbooks. This fee is usually equal to half the cost to write the spell into a spellbook (see Writing a New Spell into a Spellbook). Rare and unique spells might cost significantly more.
Independent Research: A wizard can also research a spell independently, duplicating an existing spell or creating an entirely new one. The cost to research a new spell, and the time required, are left up to GM discretion, but it should probably take at least 1 week and cost at least 1,000 gp per level of the spell to be researched. This should also require a number of Spellcraft and Knowledge (arcana) checks.
