Okay, let's try this again:

Oracle HPs: 1d8 ⇒ 7 - 1 (Con pen) = 6
Oracle Cash: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 3) = 9 x10 = 90 GP

AC HPs: 2d8 ⇒ (4, 7) = 11 + 1 per die (Con bonus) = 13

Ok, I've got a bunch of other things on my plate at the moment so I think I'm going to withdraw my interest from this campaign.

I wish you all a fun and long-lived adventure!

I'm sorry to hear that, but have fun regardless Otm! :)

@Lady - A boar could work, though people may mistake it for livestock. A Wolf could also work, and a Tiger...well, apart from the fact He-Man's mighty battle cat Cringer comes to mind, cats have a tendency to do as they please, so I feel folk may be a little scared. If there's a particular animal companion you'd like from the entire list of animal companions over all else, please tell me and I'll give you my thoughts on it. :)

Dark Archive

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I vote for a Shark. You could carry it around in a small wagon drawn aquarium!

Use a Wizard to transmute construct legs on the thing, and then a spell to make it not need to breathe. ;)

You'd have a ferocious finned Dog.

Hey guys, just an update!

Can you all please include the following in your back stories if you haven't already:

1. Where do you socialise?
2. Where do you frequently visit in Westcrown?
3. Where do you work (if you do)?
4. How do you conceal your feelings of treason/rebellion from those in power?
5. How would people looking to make a difference in Westcrown know of you?
6. What are your hobbies?
7. What do you do at night/day?

I've seen several characters I feel would work really well in this campaign but my decisions will be revealed on Friday.

In the meantime, recruitment is still open and I just wanted to double check that all those applying are a. excited for this, and b. in it for the long run. :)

Thanks for your time!

I'm not sure if that's hilarious or terrifying ;_;

But anyhoo, hmm...I was going to go with a wolf, but now I'm curious. What about a constrictor snake?

(Also, aside from ironing out what companion to take and equipment, I've got my character's crunch done. I'll get the background written once I've decided which friend to go with.)

Not sure how I feel about a Snake because it would cause a lot of attention, but keep throwing ideas out and I'll have a think on it. :)

That's the rub, just about any critter aside from something that's normally domesticated like a horse or dog is going to draw attention to some degree...

I could still go with my cleric idea; I've got most of the crunch for that one as well. Decisions, decisions :P

You then miss Ladile need something that makes you stand out on purpose... sort of a hide in plain site sort of thing. adding the requested items to backstory now.

put a few points in perform we can make it a show the dancing snake healer person.

I'll work on my character's backstory questions soon. I'll post here when I finish, and I'll edit her information onto her Myth-Weavers page.

Added a bit of information on Trendon's backstory.

Thanks guys, and Lady - My only concern with a Snake is that you would cause a lot of attention, so any secret organisation may not remain secret with a snake friend in the party. :p

Thanks guys. :)

Very exited to play... Will stat up Lirandra ASAP and change backstory to include answers to your questions.

Glad to hear it Lirandra!

Is your alias half for something else though? I noticed you had four traits without the Additional Traits feat and you also have 2 levels of Expert, so I'm guessing she wasn't originally for this campaign. Regardless, if you can tailor her to fit well into this campaign, I'll look forward to reading your completed sheet. :)

If everyone could format their stats as Abberforth Blackbone has, that would be fantastic.

Here's a list of mostly completed characters so far:

Abberforth Blackbone - Human Witch
Araraxus Black Star - Tiefling Paladin (Iomedae)
Dahrehn Hallea - Aasimar (Azata Blooded) Bard
Jovinus Corinne - Human Magus (Staff Magus)
Keil - Tiefling Rogue
Rona'Nathaniel Gassan - Elf Fighter (Tactician)
Trendon Razner - Human Bard

Note: If you haven't been included on the above list, it means you either have incomplete profiles and/or backgrounds/builds, or may still be thinking over concepts. If you're not mentioned above and believe your profile is finished, please speak up!

Simple Jawl - Could you add some more backstory please? Answering my questions in my post above will give me a lot to go on. :)

Dahrehn - I've given you a PM, so when you get a chance, please say in here when you've updated your background.

Thanks a bunch guys!

Bard party! Wecould form a band!

Would you accept my Myth Weavers page instead of the forum format? I'm far more comfortable with that website for creating character sheets.

Here is Sonya's sheet once more. As noted, it's on Mythweavers right now and is visible to the public. You can find her backstory and answers to the questions you asked in the 'Other Notes' section, or you may click the second link.

Sonya, Tiefling Ranger (Freebooter / Trapper)

Backstory

Added the questions to my profile!

@Inlaa - I'm happy for you to use Mythweavers for your own reference, but would really appreciate it if you could also format it on here, just because I find it easier to look at. I wouldn't have asked specifically if it wasn't my preferred layout. :)

Just make things a lot easier for me to keep track of because for one, the text on here isn't a strain on my eyes and it's easier to have everything in one place.

Thanks Abberforth. :)

I've added background content to address the questions.

Sovereign Court

Simple Jawl has being updated here

If there's any other things I need to clear, do inform me. Off to work now.

Dark Archive

Jovinus Corinne has been updated.

You guys sure aren't making things easy for me! ;)

Of note, if your characters travel at night, there's one thing you should all be aware of and that is that all citizens remain indoors at night unless travelling through the very few streets that are kept lit. It's not safe to go wandering into the darkness, and many of you believe this information to be rumours put in place as scare tactics by the Governing House of Thrune. However, there may be some truth to this afterall. Those foolish enough to be out at night may have seen things moving from within the shadows, and some of you may have even had some near death encounters with things unknown and unseen.

Word of the wise: Be wary, traveller's. There's no telling what lurks in the shadows.

Working on the questions, but have lots of distractions tonight...will try to have it polished off by tomorrow night.

As for the formatting, I find my version quicker to use as there is not a lot of extra stuff to read through. Hope it's not too difficult, just personal preference ;) I'll try to combine a few categories...but distractions first :)

Yours is mostly okay Keil. It just requires a lot of backtracking!

Please read the above post though, as it will help those of you living within Westcrown and those of you who have darkvision and/or go out at night. :)

Finally, submitting Elidal Zemiel for approval. I think I finally got everything in order and I think I answered all of the additional questions in her character writeup. Let me know if there's any problems or questions :)

Yeah,... the character was made for an NPC only game of CoT so the backstory is designed for this AP, but as an expert. I will redesign Lirandra as a Bard and post new details soon (background should be equally good for that - if not better), but thought it would be worth posting her fluff anyway. :)

Expanded backstory:

Lirandra is the daughter of the famous operatic dancer Lilandra "The Lily" Voralius. She grew up in the shadow of her mother, the unwanted result of the dancer's wild life of excess - a life of parties, drugs, casual relationships, and a life that a young daughter would never be welcome in. Lirandra always tried to be what her mother wanted, and trained with the best dancing and singing coaches money could afford, developing a talent for singing, dancing and acting that threatened to rival that of her mother.
Throughout her youth, during the parties that her mother threw, or dragged her to, Lirandra was treated as a young mascot by the young nobles who spent their time gambling and drinking at the debauched affairs, and she was exposed to a life more than unsuitable for a young girl. As she grew older, and more attractive however, she began to attract a different kind of attention from several of the more dissolute nobles.

It was at one of her mother's wild parties, only a short year ago, when she was 16 years old that Lirandra's life changed. Darelen Thrune, a minor scion of the House, drunkenly separated her from the attendees and pulled her into a bedchamber. Left bloody and sporting a vicious scar which now mars her once perfect features Lirandra's career is over before it even began and the government of Westcrown will do nothing. After all, the bribes have been paid and none wish to work against the House of Thrune.

Following the events of that night Lirandra has become absorbed in the wild life of the young elite of Westcrown, spending her nights joining in the parties that inevitably run till dawn - no-one willing to admit that half the reason they stay is to avoid the shadowed streets. Lirandra's nights are spent recovering from her excessive lifestyle - she no longer practices singing, dancing or acting, and is slowly descending into a miasma of self-destruction. Now it has come to the point where, in her drunkenness, she even openly voices her contempt for the house of Thrune, unafraid, even inviting, the inevitable consequences.

Wanting nothing more than to revenge herself upon the young noble who ended her career, Lirandra has gathered the materials she thinks she might need. - Arsenic in a specially designed ring, a number of small hidden daggers for protection and some lock-picks. She plans to find Darelen at a party and slip the poison into his drink. Once that is done she knows not what she will do.

Briefer version of answers to questions:

1. Where do you socialise? : At (minor) nobles parties
2. Where do you frequently visit in Westcrown? noble's parties
3. Where do you work (if you do)? Lirandra hasn't worked in months
4. How do you conceal your feelings of treason/rebellion from those in power? She doesn't, but most who hear her are too drunk to remember in the morning - as she is herself
5. How would people looking to make a difference in Westcrown know of you? probably from hearing her at one of the parties she has attended
6. What are your hobbies? Getting drunk and plotting revenge
7. What do you do at night/day? night: party, day: recover

Hey guys!

Just thought I'd get this up for you all, as the Cheliax guide had some useful information on Westcrown for you.

I think I've covered everything, so please take a read!

The Dottari:

The primary forces of law and order in Westcrown are the dottari, the city guards. They all wear Aroden’s symbol stenciled in black on a red field, usually on a shield or tabard. Officers wear a reversed mark (red on black) on the upper arm, forearm, or ring (indicating ascending rank).

They always travel in squads of seven—six soldiers and one lieutenant.

The River Edicts:

The Laws of Travel, also called the River Edicts, are well known by those who ply the waters in and around Westcrown—and finding ways around them has long been a pastime. First, no one (not even imperial troops) can halt the water travel of anyone on the river. Second, no canals can be blocked or closed save by those given authority by the duxotar, officers of the palace warden, or the city’s imperial naval commander.
Third, unauthorized encroachment of imperial waters (a 50-foot perimeter around any moving imperial craft, or 100 feet for a moored one) is punishable by immediate attack and potential death. Fourth, attacks from shore to craft are allowed only in the defense of city property.

Unknown Shadow Creatures that lurk at night:

These strange creatures first surfaced in 4676 AR. The dottari were unable to deal with the problem, as were mercenaries, so the mayor declared a curfew to keep citizens off the streets; the curfew remains in place over 30 years later. Today, with the dying of each day’s light,
businesses hurriedly close and respectable homes light lanterns outside their doors. The dottari light pyrahje (man-sized torches) throughout certain major streets in the city and patrol between these islands of light. Taverns and similar establishments maintain sleeping rolls for
those who stay after dark, collecting a customary 2 sp fee for boarders soon after twilight. Those forced onto the street after dark typically carry halorans, 7-foot-tall hooked staves hung with bright lanterns, made publicly available along the city’s most traveled avenues.

Districts:

Rego Cader: What locals call the “Dead Sector” refers to the northern ruins, though older Wiscrani can tell you this used to be Rego Plea (formerly home to house slaves, servants, and lesser trades). Now, most are squats and partial homes for dens of thieves, or even the lairs of monsters.

Rego Corna: “Crown Sector” encompasses the former stronghold of power in Cheliax—the Imperial Court of Cheliax and its attendant holdings and homes.
Rego Laina: “Blade Sector,” is named for the many nobles, smithies, and armories here.
Rego Pena: “Coin Sector” holds the more lucrative trades and many houses of dubious political or monetary standing.
Rego Sacero: “Priest Sector” contains more shrines and ecclesiastical real estate (extant or ruined) than five other Chelish cities combined.
Rego Scripa: “Scribe Sector” was once the center for the bureaucratic work of the Chelish empire. Now it is mainly cartographers, trade warehouses, and ship-related businesses.

Places residents may know of:

The Korradath: Once the seat of Imperial Cheliax, this massive fortified castle remains an impressive sight, marred only by poor upkeep.
Miratanza: “The Floating Market” allows islandbound servants to shop for food and goods for their noble masters. Anchored in place, the numerous platforms allow vendors to rent spaces or simply sell directly from their own craft.
The Pleatra: This slave market is one of the largest building complexes in the sector.
Taranik House: The Order of the Rack rotates a new complement of Hellknights to the local Paralictor here every other Fireday. The official commander of Taranik House is Paralictor Gonville Chard (male human).
Aroden’s Rise: This large hill is now covered with derelict shrines and a giant statue of the dead god.
The Arodennama: Standing 90 feet tall from its base atop Aroden’s Rise and shaped from massive blocks of white marble, the statue predates recorded history in the region and all other structures in Westcrown.
Qatada Nessudidia: The largest temple to Asmodeus in Westcrown, the cathedral’s crystalline skylight glows a sinister red at all times.

Sovereign Court

Interesting. Thank the heavens Simple Jawl doesn't wander out at night.

Just for fun:

Why do you feel you should be picked for this AP, and if Aroden himself came back from the grave, what would your character say to him?

hmm lets see here.. I should be picked for this ap because...I am motivated and dedicated... as for Aroden.. I would get cliff notes for how to pass the star stone tests? and/or i Would point out the damage he did when he disapeared especially to my beloved Cheliax.

Sovereign Court

Why?
Cause I want to be picked that's why. :P

Simple Jawl's Answer.
Aroden? Who's Aroden? Does he pay well?

Only one addendum to make to that listing: Sonya has both the Freebooter and Trapper archetypes (thus why she's able to disarm traps).

I'll be making an alias for her tonight, I think. All I have to do today is go to class (over at 8 p.m.), reread the Constitution and that's it.

Done, and what are your posting times? I'm on GMT.

I am happy as an Elf. My timezone is also GMT : 0

Why should I get picked? I would like to be picked to try the campaign out, I have only played a minor part of it before and apparently that was all added by the GM.

What would I say to Aroden? I would ask him the best ways to keep the peace in Westcrown, to make sure innocents and civilians are un-harmed and laughter fill the streets once again.

Posting times -- I live in the Central U.S. timezone. My posting time each day will vary; I think I sent you a PM with some details on my posting schedule. For the coming week (my Spring Break) I should have plenty of time to post, but after that I'm looking at posting once or twice a day on weekdays and more than that on Friday-Sunday (possibly Thursday). On weekdays, I'd be posting between classes on Monday and Wednesday (which would be in the evening, 5-6 p.m. or so) and maybe at night after my last class (10-midnight or so). On Tuesdays/Thursdays, I could post after my last class.

I'm off to class right now, actually. I'll probably check in at 5-6 p.m.

I have answered your 7 questions, but put them in a spoiler at the bottom of my page, for easy reference. Just trying to work out the cost of renting an apartment each month. So far I can only find prices for Korvosa, so may use their prices if that is alright?

Just been reading the rules on Profession, I earn half my profession score in Gold Pieces per week. So if I take 10 each week for an average wage that is 7 GP. So I pay 4 GP for a flat in Rego Pena, then pay each week for food and drink at the tavern for all my meals ... let's say 2 GP a week. That will leave me with 1 GP a week, which explains the money I have saved up.

Sound good Cortez?

Here’s my long delayed submission: Casarus Abragailonie, Wiscrani thespian & bodyguard. Let me know if there are any problems or points that need clarification. I prefer not to create an alias unless I get accepted into a game. The PC's gear is the only missing portion of the application. starting gold 5d6x10: 5d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 4, 6, 3) = 23 I will take care of that today.

Backstory, Personality, Returning to Westcrown:

Backstory: The fifth son in an acting family, Casarus Abragailonie grew up in Westcrown and Egorian for the most part. The Abragailonie family has been acting since before the Civil War. If a person didn’t become an actor, they worked in the theater in another creative capacity; designing sets, crafting costumes, and occasionally writing. Casarus started with walk on roles, page boys delivering letters, a dancing imp in a hellish landscape, a small bear helping the hero. Even before the applause of the first day on stage, he found the rehearsals and art of acting wonderful.

At the age of six, his Uncle Cardin, despite all warnings, performed The Third Prisoner, a tale many believe about the Civil War despite being set in an imaginary land called “Vandolista.” Many Wiscrani consider the play an insult to the nobility, especially Houses Arvanxi, Oberigo, and Phandros. The first night was a disaster. Uncle Cardin was immolated on stage. The theater burned down and two audience members died. His family left Westcrown and haven’t returned since. Casarus has been afraid of any fire larger than a campfire ever since. He does get nervous around campfires and even torches.

He’s aware that sometimes the applause he receives is a bit forced, but that’s mostly due to the audience not understanding his performance. Only rarely does he forget a line or have trouble with blocking. He thinks that he is a better actor than given credit for; especially by his family. After years of watching his brothers get the parts he wanted, Casarus’s first central role was Lt. Narrix in the play The Missing Fleet at the age of nineteen. He trained with the trident for the role and has loved the weapon ever since. Indeed he views himself as an actor specializing in martial plays. He convinced his parents to let him train with soldiers and mercenaries to learn how to fight. If he wasn’t an actor, he probably become a soldier.

Now, at the age of twenty-one, Casarus is tired of years spent in the shadows of his older brothers. He decides to return to Westcrown and revive his family’s glory. His older brothers may be more handsome and wittier, but Casarus isn’t afraid of Westcrown.

Personality:
• He feels entitled to getting his way in most things, most of the time.
• If he offends someone he usually claims he was only joking.
• He likes drinking excessively.
• He prefers socializing with artists, actors, playwrights, musicians, and clerics of Shelyn.

Reason for being in Westcrown: He returned to Westcrown to work as an actor and show his family that he is a better actor than they give him credit for. He plans to make enough money and prestige to stage The Third Prisoner. He knows it will take years before he can produce a play in his uncle’s honor to match his vision, but he has the anger and desire to prove to his family that he is a great actor. He brought a trunk filled with books; multiple copies of seven different plays. The Missing Fleet, A Devil Named Phurtklevart, The Broken Bridge, Sweet Poison, Wicked Fun Half Begun, A Wiscrani on Even-Tongued Day and Jakthion and the Shriikirri-Quah Princess. He hopes to found an acting troupe.

7 Questions:
1. Where do you socialize? Rego Pena for the most part. Mostly trying to secure funding for “the next play” and trying to meet other thespians.
2. Where do you frequently visit in Westcrown? Visits the ruined theater where his uncle died about twice a month, usually every other Oathday. Also, Miratanza is a good place to eat cheap food and talk to servants to find nobles that may become patrons.
3. Where do you work (if you do)? When not in a performance he manages to get hired as a body guard. When he’s really desperate he will act as an escort during the night, carrying a person’s haloran for half a silver.
4. How do you conceal your feelings of treason/rebellion from those in power? He plays the fool, will say things so absurd that no one should take him seriously. Another tactic is to attribute treasonous words to a monologue from “an obscure play” he learned years ago. He probably doesn’t realize how dangerous his words can be.
5. How would people looking to make a difference in Westcrown know of you? They would probably know of him as an ambitious actor wanting to stage great Chelish classics, like his uncle. They might also see him to be used as a decoy, for the Westcrown powers to focus on him while they go about their plots.
6. What are your hobbies? Practicing fighting with the trident, playing music, scouring book shops for plays, and singing.
7. What do you do at night/day? When not working, he enjoys drinking at taverns, playing music. Discussing great plays and pieces of literature.

That's fine Ronan, but wen you run out, you're homeless. ;)

@Tom - That's completely understandable. I'll be looking over your sheet shortly. :)

Well going by the Korvosa and real-life rules rent is paid monthly, so that's 16 GP a month. I am sure that we will be finding treasure and gear to sell, just means that I will be 16 GP down each month from the treasure for a place to stay.

Just trying to make him seem more realistic, why would an adventurer not have somewhere to live in between his / her journeys?

I was going to say actually that I see Cheliax as a much sought after place to live, more so than Korvosa, so was going to say that 10% on top of Korvosa's prices seems fair to me, but how do you feel about that?

How does anyone feel about that in fact?

Wealth and HP rolls:

Wealth: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 6) = 17 x10 + 300 (Trait) = 470GP
HP: 1d8 ⇒ 4

Will update to include equipment ASAP.

16 GP is for a good flat in the higher ends of Korvosa. As there are no housing rules I could find for this campaign, I guessed it would be similar. Even if it is higher, 16 GP a month is still a lot of money and could pay for a place not so advertised. So I should still be able to get a small place, that's big enough for me for that amount.

I think I might be taking this a little too far.

Just had a look in Taldor, Echoes of Glory, Cheliax and the CotCT Player's Guide and can't find residency costs anywhere. Maybe it's in the Magnimar companion which I have somewhere.

For the sake of time saving let's just go with 10% extra for anything of equivalent living in Korvosa as Westcrown is controlled by Devil's, and they can be pretty greedy. ;)

So 16 Gold Pieces and 6 Silver Pieces a month to stay in my own flat? Fair enough.

If it was 16 before, 10% of that would be an additional 1 gold and 6sp. :)
