Equipment etc. all done. - See profile :)

Updated Elidal's profile with some additional information. As for the two other questions...

(1) Who doesn't love a story that includes a plucky young woman and her cute dog as part of the main cast? ;)

(2) I believe Elidal would likely scold him, because he really dropped the ball with the whole dying thing.

Haha!

Thanks for the updates guys. It looks like one of the players I wanted in the campaign has dropped out (awaiting a PM), which is a massive shame because I loved the concept, but it was because he didn't feel he could do more than one post a day.

I touched on this a little in my opening post, but I'm aiming for multiple posts a day on a good day and one post per day on a bad day, but ultimately the game has a tendency on deciding the pace itself, using the average posting amounts of the players themselves.

I just wanted to make sure you were all still okay with this before deciding who's in on Friday?

I also have a soft spot for Half-Elves, so.... ;)

I am good for posting throughout the day. Weekends will be tight as I have very busy weekends, but I should be able to get at least 1 post in a day during them.

The weekends will probably be when I'm most active as that's usually when I have some time to myself, though my recent shift patterns at work have been messing that up.

That's fine anyway.

Questions:
1)I love the PbP medium because it allows for great roleplaying opportunities, and I love to truely "roleplay", as opposed to rollplay. And I'm usually checking the forums several times a day

2)"This can't be right...you're supposed to be dead? Perhaps it's those mushrooms that kind fellow offered me"

Also, posting from EST.

Tell you what, I'm really looking forward to running this.

I usually like to have a GMPC and do have a character for this AP, but I felt when I run my Rise of the Runelord's tabletop, that you can't truly roleplay your character because you have to roleplay all of the NPC's as well, so this will be a lot more focused on you guys without my GMPC, though it might be fun to include her with a few missions later on.

We'll see. Anyway, we'll have an interesting party, and I did laugh about the band comment regarding Bard's, but I do want this one to be pretty interesting and serious over all else. Think of it more of a grounded and gritty campaign.

I've finished weeding out some errors, tweaking my bio and Q/A. Switched avatars too, sorry to confuse but red skin wasn't working out with Keil's heritage.

I post on GMT, but like Cortez I also engage in shift work, so some days will be better than others. Why pick me? I like to post :) As for Aroden, Keil would ask him if he likes what has become of his kingdom.

I too do shift work, although at weekends it is night shift work, so don't have a tonne of time. But during the week I can usually post multiple times a day.

I love the mushroom answer Abberforth! Wish I had thought of it.

Forgot to mention, I'm posting from CST (which is GMT -6 I believe). Most days, including weekends, I can post at least a couple of times a day if things are happening and the game is flowing well. On the three days I work each week, I can usually only manage one or maybe two posts since I work a long shift and also drive an hour each way.

I'm still game to do this. I'm home now, so I can work on formatting the character's alias as you requested (as compared to using Mythweavers). I'll post again ASAP.

Dark Archive

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I am EST posting. Multiple posts per day should not be a problem for me most days, unless i have a drill weekend which is once a month.

I should be included in this AP because I am very excited to be starting one of my first PBPs. After over 20 years of gaming, it's good to get back to a text based game! I am reminded of the MUDs that got me in trouble in college!

Aroden... Is that you? Wanna spar?

I am GMT +11 and can usually post multiple times in a day - but will have field work to do occasionally that will limit me on those days.

I could re-build Lirandra as a half elf with a little tweaking of her background if that'd help?

Liking the new avatar Keil!

Off topic, I just watched Gravity - Great film, but now I have 4 hours before I need to get up for a 10 hour shift in a call center. :/

Jovinus - Aroden agree's to sparring with you but your fists and kicks pass through. Sorry, he's a ghost. ;)

I'm really stuffed at the minute, because there are 7 characters I really want in game, but 5 I feel is a manageable number, 6 pushing it, but I'm still deciding on how many to include as I want a game that I can tailor towards the players and at the same time as pointed out earlier, it's also a great idea to have an extra player or two in case of drop outs.

In fact, I like most of your characters...

Also, I'll say now that anyone who doesn't make the cut will have priority when it comes to drop out's over other members who haven't yet shown interest. This is mainly because I feel your characters presence in Westcrown. Even if you don't make it as a PC, your characters are there, roaming the streets as the campaign goes on, running amok and going about your own lives.

Lirandra should be chosen because she deserves her revenge dammit! And a chance for personal redemption and a new meaning in life. If she continues on her current path she will surely end up in the grave - You don't want that hanging over your head. Do you?

Arrrodeeen (Hic), come and have a seat. Can I just rest my head on you shoulder for a little while? Just till the room stops spinning.

...Okay. I've edited in the full 'Statistics' portion of information twice and lost it all both times because of-- Honestly, I'm not sure why. But I clicked preview and it took me to a store page, twice.

I'm going to take another whack at finishing my character's alias, but I'm starting to yell at the forum profile setup stuff. Forgive me.

Here's the updated character sheet. I live in PST and can post about twice a day.

Backstory, Personality, Returning to Westcrown:

Backstory: The fifth son in an acting family, Casarus Abragailonie grew up in Westcrown and Egorian for the most part. The Abragailonie family has been acting since before the Civil War. If a person didn’t become an actor, they worked in the theater in another creative capacity; designing sets, crafting costumes, and occasionally writing. Casarus started with walk on roles, page boys delivering letters, a dancing imp in a hellish landscape, a small bear helping the hero. Even before the applause of the first day on stage, he found the rehearsals and art of acting wonderful.

At the age of six, his Uncle Cardin, despite all warnings, performed The Third Prisoner, a tale many believe about the Civil War despite being set in an imaginary land called “Vandolista.” Many Wiscrani consider the play an insult to the nobility, especially Houses Arvanxi, Oberigo, and Phandros. The first night was a disaster. Uncle Cardin was immolated on stage. The theater burned down and two audience members died. His family left Westcrown and haven’t returned since. Casarus has been afraid of any fire larger than a campfire ever since. He does get nervous around campfires and even torches.

He’s aware that sometimes the applause he receives is a bit forced, but that’s mostly due to the audience not understanding his performance. Only rarely does he forget a line or have trouble with blocking. He thinks that he is a better actor than given credit for; especially by his family. After years of watching his brothers get the parts he wanted, Casarus’s first central role was Lt. Narrix in the play The Missing Fleet at the age of nineteen. He trained with the trident for the role and has loved the weapon ever since. Indeed he views himself as an actor specializing in martial plays. He convinced his parents to let him train with soldiers and mercenaries to learn how to fight. If he wasn’t an actor, he probably become a soldier.

Now, at the age of twenty-one, Casarus is tired of years spent in the shadows of his older brothers. He decides to return to Westcrown and revive his family’s glory. His older brothers may be more handsome and wittier, but Casarus isn’t afraid of Westcrown.

Personality:
• He feels entitled to getting his way in most things, most of the time.
• If he offends someone he usually claims he was only joking.
• He likes drinking excessively.
• He prefers socializing with artists, actors, playwrights, musicians, and clerics of Shelyn.

Reason for being in Westcrown: He returned to Westcrown to work as an actor and show his family that he is a better actor than they give him credit for. He plans to make enough money and prestige to stage The Third Prisoner. He knows it will take years before he can produce a play in his uncle’s honor to match his vision, but he has the anger and desire to prove to his family that he is a great actor. He brought a trunk filled with books; multiple copies of seven different plays. The Missing Fleet, A Devil Named Phurtklevart, The Broken Bridge, Sweet Poison, Wicked Fun Half Begun, A Wiscrani on Even-Tongued Day and Jakthion and the Shriikirri-Quah Princess. He hopes to found an acting troupe.

7 Questions:
1. Where do you socialize? Rego Pena for the most part. Mostly trying to secure funding for “the next play” and trying to meet other thespians.
2. Where do you frequently visit in Westcrown? Visits the ruined theater where his uncle died about twice a month, usually every other Oathday. Also, Miratanza is a good place to eat cheap food and talk to servants to find nobles that may become patrons.
3. Where do you work (if you do)? When not in a performance he manages to get hired as a body guard. When he’s really desperate he will act as an escort during the night, carrying a person’s haloran for half a silver.
4. How do you conceal your feelings of treason/rebellion from those in power? He plays the fool, will say things so absurd that no one should take him seriously. Another tactic is to attribute treasonous words to a monologue from “an obscure play” he learned years ago. He probably doesn’t realize how dangerous his words can be.
5. How would people looking to make a difference in Westcrown know of you? They would probably know of him as an ambitious actor wanting to stage great Chelish classics, like his uncle. They might also see him to be used as a decoy, for the Westcrown powers to focus on him while they go about their plots.
6. What are your hobbies? Practicing fighting with the trident, playing music, scouring book shops for plays, and singing.
7. What do you do at night/day? When not working, he enjoys drinking at taverns, playing music. Discussing great plays and pieces of literature.

AHA. I DID IT. I got it all to work this time. Apparently the Preview button is just evil and deserves to be crushed beneath a mailed fist.

My character's name will now link to her entire... everything, statistics and gear and background, etcetera. I included a Mythweavers link as well for my own sake, but the information is on the profile page in spoiler form.

Take that, system! Take that, indeed!

Darned tootin'!

Sovereign Court

Way to go Sonya. I simply bashed my through.

I am GMT-6, but i work midnights so i am usually up from 6pm my time to well 9 am my time. sometimes though, i get up about 3 pm my time, because well sleep is just something i dont do as much as others it would seem.

I thought you said you worked with Midgets for a second then, and was going to ask "Are you Willy Wonka?" haha.

I'm half tempted to close submissions tonight because I feel this has been open long enough now. If others were interested they would have already expressed interest (most likely).

Keep tabs on this today. GMT is EST +5....so at GMT Midnight tonight, I may have my decision!

I always make sure to copy all of my text before hitting any buttons due to that very issue. That way I can just paste it and try again.

I'm mostly the same. :)

I'm going to have to start doing that. I used to do that when I roleplayed over forums all the time (I was on various websites of such a nature), but then I stopped roleplaying over forums and I've lost the habits that were actually useful when playing by post.

How many of you feel you'll get a lot out of this AP? ;)

I generally feel that I'll get a lot out of any game I get to participate in on these forums, homebrew or AP, because the experience will help make me a better roleplayer. Even the games I don't make it into are good learning experiences because I still had to come up with a character background and maybe do some preliminary RP posting :)

I honestly can't say. I haven't run a lot of APs in the past. Most of the games I've been in have been homebrew games (especially in AD&D and 3.5) or Pathfinder Society games.

Dark Archive

I am currently in the middle of RotR AP. I haven't played any other APs. I have only been playing Pathfinder for about a year. I have played many D&D modules though. I always get something from playing. Each time I play is an opportunity to tell another story that is in my head.

Well, when I'm done picking my players, I'm sure there will be stories to tell!

We've got a lot of great characters with rich and engaging backgrounds, so if the roleplaying is true to the concept, things will be really really good (I hope :p).

Good luck everybody, all the best for whoever gets picked.

Agreed! Good luck in the choosing.

Drumroll's for the next half hour please!

drumrolls? thats a bard skill... *drums* good luck to all

Nearly done, but man is it hard.

I'm about decided on 4 of the 5 characters I can manage a PBP for.

You all have great stories, but I'm trying to keep some variation with the fact 25% of submissions are bards (ha!), while Tiefling's and Human's make up the majority of the submissions.

And so it begins!

First up, we have Keil!

Take a bow my good man! Your backstory and concept is exceptional and it seems like you're both the hero Westcrown deserves, and the one it needs right now. ;)

I'll be giving everyone's build a once over after I've announced all characters.

And next up we have Dahrehn Hallea!

I really liked the direction Jason was taking his acting, Aasimar Bard. Viva La Revolution!

A strange decision to have two Bard's in the party, but expressing a little love for the women now, the third character to make it is...

Lirandra!

Lirandra needs her vengeance and she might just get it!

*adds cheers for the selections so far cause you know morale is important*

Next up we have somewhat of an outcast, but a man who's on a mission.

Following another fantastic backstory, I'd like to announce that Araraxus Black Star has also been accepted into the campaign!

Let's put an end to the oppression shall we?

Dark Archive

Ooooh I can feel the tension and excitement in the air!

Pick me, pick me, pick me!

Okay, and last of all, the character I've chosen to be the last member of the party is Sonya Black!

Time to make those Hellknight's suffer!

For everyone else, thanks very much for your time and in case of any dropouts, I will be back here recruiting, so don't feel left out!

I was very close to choosing Trendan but I couldn't have three Bard's in the party if I wanted a serious campaign.

Elidal - I didn't get a good enough feel of your motivations. I liked your character but your backstory was more about how you currently live, your past and things like that. Your motivations were a little unclear and didn't feel strong enough to give me a good feel of a character wanting revenge or to make a stand against something. I felt she was just curious about what goes on at night more than anything.

Abberforth (Dumbledore's Brother?) - I liked the character but didn't see him as the type for hire/to enlist in a resistance force.

Jovinus - Sorry! I know you wanted to play that Staff Magus, but like most entries, I needed more to fully grab me.

Tom - A fighter and an entertainer, I felt you were similar to Dahrehn's entry, but Dahrehn gave me a much better feel for his characters intentions and motivations.

Ronan - Seemed cool, but I didn't get a feeling there would be a huge amount of character development, so that's what deterred me.

Jawl - Sorry bud. Simple Jawl was just too simple for this campaign. :/

You've all given absolutely fantastic entries though, and I really appreciate your time and effort. Keep hold of your characters in case a slot becomes available, but if I run any future games, please feel free to submit characters for them!

It's disappointing I know, but there wasn't a bad character here.

Those who are playing, just to recap I have:

Araraxus Black Star - Tiefling Paladin (Iomedae)
Dahrehn Hallea - Aasimar (Azata Blooded) Bard
Keil - Tiefling Rogue
Lirandra - Human Bard
Sonya Black - Tiefling Ranger (Freebooter/Trapper)

3 Tiefling's, 1 human and an Aasimar. If the party doesn't kill each other first, vengeance will be had!

I'll be looking to start in the next week and will keep you posted!

Congrats everyone and good luck! :)

@Cortez - That's understandable, as it's hard for me to write really driven characters since that sort of personality and mindset is very different from my RL self. I think the closest I've come is a character that I've submitted to a couple of Jade Regent games who has a "tragically orphaned" background. Otherwise I tend to gravitate more towards easy-going, go-with-the-flow types which aren't always appropriate to the setting. Though each DM wants to see different things, I'll keep your analysis in mind if I ever decide to make another character for a CoT game or want to recycle Elidal. For what it's worth, I also appreciate your comments since most DMs usually leave things at "Man, you all had great submissions and it was so hard to choose, I wish I could take you all" :)

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Congrats all! give em he.... wait that might not be a bad thing considering.

You're welcome!

I'm sorry I couldn't include everyone, but I know how disappointing it can be to not get into a game you're really looking forward to, so I wanted to just message each and every one of you for why you didn't get in.

And yea, I agree fully, it's always down to how the GM wants their game, and if I run another game ever and want some light hearted characters, I know where to find you. ;)

Looking above I realise that my comments could also come across as lacking effort, but I didn't mean them to come across that way, so thank you all and I look forward to playing with you someday!

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Thanks to all three of you just above. I'm going to go ahead and plan ways to fight the rest of the party while-- Oh! Oh, the part about killing each other first was a joke!

...*Cough* You didn't see the blood on my shield.

Anyway, I'll be waiting eagerly. Next week is my Spring Break and thus will be my highest point of activity, likely. I'll post as often each day as I can while I have pure, unbridled freedom.

Looking forward to it. :)

Congratulations to the accepted! Thank you Cortez for consideration in the AP. I understand your reasoning and appreciate your candidness.

Thanks for the nod Cortez. I had fun tweaking the background, but I have to admit, it didn't really come together until you encouraged us to add some motivation to our characters.

Looking forward to starting!
