20 points. I'll take that.

...

That was tricky, seeing as Dwarves get -2 to Charisma...

Str 14 | Dex 8 | Con 14 | Int 10 | Wis 18 16 + 2| Cha 16 18 – 2 |

Can I do that, since I still wind up with the needed 18 and 8?

Yup, but remember you also get your +2 to CON (Dwarf), and +1 Ability Score advancement for Level 4.

Oh man, the tension is real.

Can we get to fifteen in time, or will we fall short of that goal? It's all that matters at this point.

To calm down nervousness,
Simon will now pull out his bone flute
and play a calming song for all of us.
It is a song, passed down to him by an old Catfolk
he once met in Kintargo.
A song played for little catlings to put them to sleep,
or when they feel bad.

"Soft kitty, warm kitty,
little ball of fur!
Happy kitty, sleepy kitty,
purr purr purr!"

Wanted to keep it for in-game, but I just couldn't resist ;-))

Shadow Lodge

Funny thing is, even if you give me +12 str, my wisdom will still be higher (by two) and thus is my attack stat

Rofl Blue

It's gonna be seriously sad if only one of us gets in. I know we've both put a lot of time into these characters

Shadow Lodge

I've been wanting to play my existing character for a while, but you guys have great backstories
Good luck :)

@DW Duck I'm going to stay human for simplicity

According to my count recruitment closed 3 hours ago; Good luck all

Scarab Sages

Nope. You have about 12 hrs left. Maybe I counted wrong initially?

Scarab Sages

Recruitment will close This evening (for me, GMT -4) at approximately 10p after my meatspace game.

Choon wrote:

No reading back this was my fault; i miscounted by 13 hours

Boy that's a long time to keep a song of calming going, Choon.
Isn't there a Bard around that can help me keep it going until then?
;-)

Scarab Sages

I'll see your bard and raise you a power mullet!

So be it. You asked for a review and your AC seems low. Reason is because your going for a super high Dex and running out of mundane armor that will let you take full advantage of it. Good luck though

Yeah 18 is low. The main reason for this was time though I thought recruitment had closed but now I have time..

Do small creatures get a bonus to attack rolls?

With half a day left and people still rolling stats? No problem.

+1 yeah lower damage die on weapons though

Most of the time they do. Small gets +1 AC/ATK vs Medium creatures. In return they take a -1 against you, so a net equivalent of +2. Now you want fun on a bun, fight a Large size creature (trolls, small giants), take a potion of Reduce person to go from small to tiny, get +2dex/-2str, and if my math is right +4 AC/ATK while they take -4AC/ATK, for an equivalent +9ATK/AC. Sure your weapon size goes down, but with added bonuses and feats and class skills I'm willing to be that even with -2 for your rapid shots and such that you can find a way to combine not being able to miss and not being able to be hit into some kind of painful painful damage.

Shadow Lodge

Medium doesn't come with a penalty to hit. Penalties come on line at large

And don't forget to get yourself a small, flying mount (like ... a bat or something) for added mobility, untouchability and hilarity.

Image a bat-mounted tiny archer flying around shooting acupuncture-needles-sized arrows at an enemy, slowly wearing him down while the big-brute waves around his club in a futile attempt to hit ...

Good times ... xD

Until that guy rolls a 20 and you go flying off like a line drive to mid-left field. ;)

Totally doable for a Ranger who selects an animal companion. Now your a flying death machine. If you go goblin I insist on referring to you as the Green Hornet haha

Edit: To be clear, you can ride this at a small size, no potion req'd.

Ooo... GM ruling... I'm a small creature and my medium flying bat mount becomes a large bat mount. I'm on my bats back in saddle, flying above combat. Does this give me cover / concealment / miss chance?

GM Choon wrote:

Hehe... well if you won't say it I will... BATTER-UP!

Snacks away on some low hanging fruit

@mount giving cover: Nope. There's a feat for that. :)

I realize that it makes no sense and it should work, but it would operate the other way too. You wouldn't like that.

GM Choon wrote:

Meh, I could see it both ways. In theory if I attacked in that manner then I'm exposed to a counter.

Also in theory I could make a ride check to gain concealment.

Also in theory since it's a shared space and the cover is alive, I could get a miss chance and failure auto hits my mount.

Yay for 3D combat. If I get picked I'm really looking forward to being a player again haha

DW Duck wrote:
...your aware that your Armored Kilt turns your Medium Armor into Heavy Armor, which makes you take Arcane Failure chances on Arcane (Skald) spells? Might be wrong or maybe you've already accounted for it, but if not I didn't want you to be unaware

Aw, crap. I didn't realize that. Hmmpf. Well, I guess I will downgrade to a 1-H weapon and pick up a shield, then. Thanks for pointing that out!

Don't get me wrong, if certain flanking builds get selected this combo could kick some ass, but at least 2 Standard Actions where your not attacking and the cost of a Feat for the what can be done roughly with a 3rd level spell? Yeah, Brutal Combo, and it has a Brutal Cost. Reads as balanced to me.

One thing to remember is that Skald raging song does very little for us Weapon Finesse users. It will increase my damage up until 6th level when my unchained rogue DEX-to-damage kicks in, but doesn't help my to-hit. And then I will only get the CON and Will bonus, but lose AC and a bunch of skills I cannot use because I am raging.

Which is why the vanilla bard's inspire courage is generally better, unless you are in a party that avoids the DEX builds, such as rogues and archers.

Thank you for that feedback, although since each party member can choose to accept the rage or not, I didn't figure it would be a problem for DEX/casters, but you're right, it depends a LOT of party composition. My teamwork feats would still apply to everyone, though. I also neglected to take into account how many turns that combo would take to pull off, so that does seem more balanced.

if you're going for a small ranger your secondary gestalt should definitely be Druid for at least the first few levels, and then take the shapeshifting hunter feat to get yourself some great wild shape and (depending on rules interpretations) better than normal favored enemy

This also lets you be basically whatever size you want

Even if I don't get in, you guys have been a fun (& helpful!) group to talk to :)

will there be enough space to fly 50% of the time or more?

this determines whether I get a animal companion or warpriest blessings

No.

Well, no unless youall say "screw this" and decide to wander around the wilds for a while

That event time and date website is really cool, Khouri. Is that just a website anyone can sign up for to use?

Good I still have time to tweak Vuzi more, before I send her onstage for her turn at the personality portion of the "Miss/Mr Rappan Athuk 2017" competition.

Good luck everyone. This has been one of the most fun and active recruitment I've seen. The creativity in the build suggestions makes me realize I need to up my game. I'm clearly not thinking broadly enough.

Well, that's the inherent beauty of Rappan Athuk playing like an old school game. One misstep and you get to start over from scratch!

True, true. For Rappan, we should actually just line up all of the volunteers like at a carnival... only more like a death carnival.

You send in the first six to enjoy the ride, but the rides are deadly. When someone dies, or gets horribly maimed you ship him off, and the next person in line gets to ride. Theoretically, all the screaming and blood would deter people and get them dropping out of line, but somehow in *this* world, instead the dead guy rolls up a new character and goes to the end of the line, excited to see how he is going to die *this* time. Decapitation might be fun...

Come to think of it, Rappan Athuk: Death Carnival is also a cool idea. We would just need to get a Merry-Go-Round with some Zombie animals going...

There is someone doing this exact thing.

I know it took awhile but I finally updated my character sheet with all magic gear. The only thing left is the spend the final 250 gp on some mundane stuff but I understand that can wait until after being chosen.

Oh yeah, man. You don't even have to sign up for anything, 100% free. I used the "Event Time Announcer" listed under "Time Zones." It's super handy-dandy.

As we get closer to the end of recruitment, I would like to apologize in advance to my F5 key.

Wow, we'll definitely make it to fifteen at this point.

Also GM is in my time zone, will make for some sweet synchronous posts if I get accepted.

Scarab Sages

I took a look at the biggest recruitment threads ever, and one of the top ones never even got to gameplay. It was sad.

Ha. I gained the ability Flurry of F5 (Ex) a few years ago. My F5 is a trooper. :P

Having attended PAX Prime for the last few years. It's a wonder the F5 key even works anymore :)

Tickets sell out in minutes.

I've been known to alt-tab double-window F5 when there's a big concert or show in my town, because tickets sell out in 5-10 min for some of the venues.

I'm probably even more eager about this because I love this character idea, and a lot of the other submissions seem SUPER cool.

Well it will be past midnight in my time zone .. So I will simply sleep it out ;-)

@f5: I use Firefox addons to get informed about new post within 10 minutes ^^
