How many posts are in a page?

Edit: whooo! Fifteen pages!

I officially withdraw my submission, since everything I wanted is now complete.

Oh wait no I don't, I still want to get selected. Damn, forgot about that because the other thing was just uh, so much more important.

For the top of page 15, I am going to bow out. Too many things going on with work and home haven't allowed me to complete my character. Too bad too, I was interested to see what he would be able to do. Good luck and good gaming.

Edit - ninja'd - Gaurwaith beat me to it.

I've only gotten about 1/3 of the way through the player's guide (and don't think I'll be able to finish before recruitment ends), besides undead & devils, is there anything else major I should plan for?

The dungeon is actually pretty diverse so I can't really tell you to prepare for a specific thing over another

It depends on where youall go, but a most of the dungeon itself is under ground, yes.

Also, just as a last-minute suggestion for any of the rogue builds - the Rogue Talent Trapspotter is DA BEST, IMO.

Well it's not as organized as I'd like, but I think even my mundane shopping is done, moment of truth coming up

There's an underground river, and some amount of climbing. There's also a city of goblins, and everything is very mazelike. Several people I think described teleportation at certain points, but you don't know where it goes or even if it's not just a disintegrator, so uh...that's kinda tough to prepare for.

I think recruitment is closed now. The final wait begins :).

about half an hour

Final version, hope I remembered everything *crossing fingers*

For your Consideration Grelthe

Book of War Prayers This small, leather-bound collection of war prayers features pages of fine vellum. If you have a Charisma of 13 or higher, or at least 1 rank in Perform (oratory), you can read aloud prayers from the book before battle to hearten others for the trials to come. Reading prayers for this effect takes 10 minutes. You grant those who hear your prayers a +2 morale bonus on the next saving throw against fear they attempt, as long as that saving throw is made in the next 24 hours. Price 50 gp; Weight 1/2 lb. that's amazing and works thematically so well, adding it! thank you!

Seven minutes left. Final call!

Enough time for a whole new backup character... ;)

Will there be much time between recruitment ending and selections being announced?

Scarab Sages

Recruitment is now closed.
Selection has begun. I can't promise a time frame. There are a lot of excellent submissions and I will need time to sort things. That said, I expect no more than two days. I hope to do some tonight.

May the odds be ever in your favor. ;)

And now the long wait begins. Best of luck everyone!

As I understand it there are 20 actual candidates and it's been suggested there may be 6 selected. This is the equivalent to the Crit Threat range of a Keen Rapier.

With that in mind, Choon you may consider me a helpless defender

Heh. Not even in game and you're already baring your neck for me, eh? You must really like making characters. :P

Good luck everyone. There have been some amazing builds and background stories to read. Now we wait.

Are you done yet?

I may have 2-3 characters in queue....

Decisions like this are never easy. When I brought up my lists of characters and qualities this time, however, I found that much of the work was done for me by the stories, expressed characteristics, and general good design that went in to your characters. I am truly sorry that I cannot take everyone, but that would tax me more than I can bear at this time. Youall have made a tremendous effort here and your characters show that effort off. I'm honored to be the owner of a thread that has cracked the top 20 in recruitments (by post count) ever on these boards. It is truly a privilege to have such anticipation and excitement surrounding something you threw at the wall. That being said, would the following six please report to discussion:

Ignatzia Thrune
Simon Blue-Eye
Dalkk
Marco T. Cain
Vuzi Ognok
Maglin

.

.

.

But wait! There's more! I really liked a lot of characters this time around. The level of creativity and enthusiasm shown off here was worthy of the thread's length. Therefore, would the following six please report to the discussion thread for the second table:

Table 2
Zadira
Grethle
Kayla Black Scorpion
Elion Talaviir
Catarya Utanbe
Melkar

Again, I'm sorry I couldn't make room for everyone, but I know that opening a third table would harm the experience for all and I really don't want to do that. So I want to give all my thanks to those who applied. Thankyou so much.

Now, let's go die. Or, in my case, kill the chosen off.

Huzzah! Two tables!

Alrighty then, I'm glad that's over with.

Thanks a lot for the selection, GM, I'll do my best to make frequent high quality posts.

Congrats to everyone else selected, I read many a backstory myself and liked the creativity.

Good luck and my condolences to those who were not selected, I hope you find good things elsewhere. May the wind beneath your wings bear you to where the sun sails and the moon walks.

Ah, well, such is life. Congratulations and good gaming to those who got in!

Congratulations to the 12 of you! If you're ever in need of a faithful Sarenite/healer, please consider Pharom. Thank you, Choon!

Good luck all and have fun dying :) (No offence, that's just what you do in rappan athuk)
I will have fun lurking

IT LIVES!

After nearly two years of action (oh my word has it been that long...) two tables have become one and then that one has diminished to the point where we are seeking new blood! I will be looking for one to two replacements from among the following NPCs

a tall knight in shining armor.
a woman with a severe, clearly Chelaxian face in half plate
a gnome dressed like a court jester
and a strong elf in heavy chainmail carrying a huge ax

These are currently in a predicament that the PC's are confronting on the 4th level of Rappan Athuk, providing a nice way to get you into the group without having to back track all the way to town again.

Build update:
The characters are currently level 8/4. For more information please see the initial post. Use standard wealth for 8th level.
I'll be happy to clear up any questions that arise.

Recruitment will run at least through the weekend. No firm date set yet, but the sooner the better.

Well. This seems interesting. Let's see if present-me has any better luck coming up with a good character concept. What's really great is that this will force me to not play a full Caster (I have trouble doing that).

Should I roll again, or use my rolls from way back when?

The predicament:
Your group has heard whispers that the deadly Rappan Athuk has been cracked! Boundless riches await those with the gall and grit to plunder the dungeon! You gathered with your fellows immediately and set off. At the town of Zelkor's Ferry you even met the group who cracked it! They gave you some cryptic warnings, but you set off anyway. You make your way though the first three mostly cleared levels only finding minor threats and no real treasure. The Knight and the Chelaxian lady start to grate on one another.
The specific situation you find yourselves in will be revealed to the selectees.

I'll leave that up to you.

Out of curiosity, what characters are still around? Interestingly enough, I was working on an elf inquisitor/slayer in the original recruitment, although using an elven curved blade.

In no particular order,
Simon Blue Eye: TWF hunter/rogue with the panther Emily
Grelthe: half orc paladin/scald
Vuzi:Oracle/sorceror
Zadira: sorcerer/ ranger
Kayla: ninja/slayer

Remember that the second class is at half progression so it doesn't influence how the characters operate as much as a full gestalt would.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

For clarity:
Simon Blue Eye: TWF hunter/rogue with the panther Emily
-- Death by a million cuts, yes-yes
Grelthe: half orc paladin/scald
-- Solid defence, the occasional buff
Vuzi:Oracle/sorceror
-- Divine mainline caster with an undead focus. The friendliest Necromancer
Zadira: sorcerer/ ranger
-- Trap finding underground specialist
Kayla: ninja/slayer
-- Invisible scout and highly mobile.

Kayla hasn't responded in a while and our general activity has sagged, so we're recruiting to fill open vacancies, yes, but also to give the whole thing a shot of fresh blood.

Dotting, am intrigued

I’ll be dotting this sounds interesting.

let's see what I have to work with.

4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 5, 1) = 18
4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 6, 6) = 16
4d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 3, 4) = 17
4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 3, 5) = 13

So... 17,15,14 and 11. I can work with this.

Always wanted to try this.

4d6: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 3, 1) = 12
4d6: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 1, 4) = 9
4d6: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 3, 5) = 15
4d6: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 1, 6) = 15

4d6: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 4, 6) = 16
4d6: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 6, 5) = 19
4d6: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 4, 1) = 10
4d6: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 1, 2) = 7

11 points and 11 points. I’ll go with the 15 point option. Now let’s see what I can come up with.

A quick question: How would you feel about a Naiad adventurer?

Hm... It's been a minute since I've played a knight. Let's see what I can come up with.

4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 4, 1) = 12 11
4d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 4, 2) = 8 7
4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 1, 5) = 14 14
4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 1, 2) = 10 9

4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 4, 3) = 14 13
4d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 4, 5) = 18 14
4d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 1, 2) = 9 8
4d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 4, 3) = 14 11

Point Buy it is, then. Wow, those rolls are butt level.

I am in, looking to take the place of the tall knight in shining armor...is the second class open? I has a crazy idea to make a Paladin/Arcanist...

Naiads would be a challenge to get into the adventure at this point. You might have to wait until the party got back to town before you were introduced.

@Thedmstrikes: That's fine by me.

Let's see what fate had in store...

4d6 - 2 ⇒ (6, 5, 6, 2) - 2 = 17
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (6, 6, 5, 1) - 1 = 17
4d6 - 5 ⇒ (5, 6, 6, 6) - 5 = 18
4d6 - 2 ⇒ (4, 2, 3, 4) - 2 = 11

I love Gestalt-ish-esque!

Umm... can I still play, with these rolls? It's a 44 point buy, just for these 4 stats. Around 59 points total?

Decided that I will be working on the gnome jester. The primary class will be mesmerist but I’m undecided on the secondary class. Unchained Rogue, will have nice feint synergy but looking at a couple of other options (unchained monk, Oracle, and bard). If anyone has thoughts or ideas let me know.

That is definitely a very nice stat array there! And ya, you can totally play it. Only a part of my choice will be mechanical. If you can't build an interesting character around it then it won't be worth much more than number on paper, right? :)
