OK…who should Fin target? I think I can take out Headless as he’s injured and I’ve got Undead as my favored enemy, think he’ll be much easier to hit than Rasputin. Rasputin’s also injured enough where he had to cast a healing spell…but he’s not undead and he’s likely got a high AC…contemplating whether or not to drop Deadly Aim on attacks against him to better my chances of landing a hit. If Headless is hurt badly (GM said he was reeling after that lightning strike), might be able to drop him with the Manyshot and target Rasputin with the others. Plus Bull should be able to rush in and smack Rasputin as well…
Also, Kal, do you have another healing spell that works at a distance that might heal us and potentially revive Maka? With Quasit with just a few hp and Maka down, we’re gonna struggle to do much damage…
One other thing to ponder…the real Rasputin was very hard to kill…and a recent scenario I’ve played has left me paranoid. If we manage to drop him, I think we should be very wary and stay alert…might wanna burn the body but that’ll be hard to do if our Mistress of Fire is down…

GM_Almonihah |

They're both very low on HP from what you can see.

![]() |

Definitely drop Rasputin. We don’t want him healing or dropping more 100 point AoEs. I think we go all out to drop him this round then drag him out of his bubble. Headless isn’t going anywhere this time. Maybe Sakitu can target him with something - I don’t remember Headless having SR?
Once Rasputin is down we get Maka healed up as much as possible. Quasit can work from a safe distance if she has to. Bulvi can stand guard on Rasputin’s corpse with his holy sword poised for a coup de grace.

![]() |

Alrighty then, I’ll try to drop Rasputin, providing I can hit him. Definitely going to drop my Deadly Aim when targeting Rasputin though; less damage but much more likely to hit…
Will try to get a post up shortly…

![]() |

Well, if I calculated correctly, that’s 102 points of damage…hope that’s enough…

![]() |

EF, I would just have Chest Thumper attack Headless and have Kalchine do nothing but heal…try to get Maka back up first with your best healing spell…like her, I’m concerned with that ‘nothing of concern’ roll the GM made and think we need her up ASAP…
If Chest Thumper can’t drop Headless, perhaps Sakitu has an offensive spell…
Just my thoughts here…

![]() |

Hopefully, Chest Thumper dropped Headless and we need to quickly get some more healing into Maka, just in case…any scrolls or healing potions we can do in tandem with more of Kal’s spells?

Maka Na'Shota |

Sorry for the delay, had a pipe burst and spent the weekend dealing with that.

![]() |

Hopefully that was in your house and not in your body.

![]() |

"I'm sorry, Selena was disintegrated. There isn't even a body to resurrect."
QUASIT: "That's a shame."
Few seconds pause.
just joking ofc.

GM_Almonihah |

Depends on when the party sends a message to Zilvazarat to buy a scroll of resurrection and whether or not they wait for him to come back with it.
The ash left behind from destruction would be enough for resurrection the way I read the spells.

![]() |

I think the party would need someone with Spellcraft or something to figure out what spell we’d need. Otherwise we won’t know that there’s something to be purchased from The Space Merchant. I think how long we’re willing to wait depends on what we learn about the trail to Baba Yaga after we turn off the machine. I think everyone would relish a few days rest, but we may not be given that option.

GM_Almonihah |

I feel like Kalchine would probably have heard of a more powerful resurrection-type spell being used once or twice during the long war with the Drakelands.

Maka Na'Shota |

We should definitely take the time to reach out to Zilvazarat, probably our last chance to gear up. Also there is a lot of stuff in the camp to sell. Even broken, those automated tanks and anti-invisibility lights could be worth quite a bit.

Kalchine |

Selena could also take another turn on the Wheel. I can cast Reincarnate and even Cyclic Reincarnation if she wants to come back as the same race (or her original race, I'm not sure how that would work given she's already been reincarnated once.)

GM_Almonihah |

Hmmm... reading the spell descriptions, I'd say that the ash Selena burned down to would count as a piece of her body for that. Looking at Resurrection it specifically mentions the dust left behind by Disintegrate counting as 'a piece of the body', and Reincarnate's language is similar enough I feel like it should apply to it as well (since it says nothing about not working on those subjected to death effects).

GM_Almonihah |

Ah, right, I'd forgotten that destruction is nastier than the average death effect. Well, Zilvazarat could certainly get you a scroll of true resurrection, though only at great expense obviously.
If you *are* wanting to do something weird with Winter, though, I'm always happy to mess around with magic animals. :D I could remember that Syvet is still around, given her experience as a strange former familiar she and Winter could probably arrange something unique.

![]() |

Tezuzu is still around as an NPC. I suppose we can use him as a resource for giving us non-time-critical Spellcraft advice.

![]() |

Aye, Q, sounds good to me…Saki’s got a +6 in it but not sure if that can ID much of this gear as I ‘spect it might be a little more high level…

GM_Almonihah |

I'd be fine with Tezuzu telling you what the requirements to resurrect Selena would be.

![]() |

I’m gonna assume that Operation Suntan goes off without complications unless otherwise notified, and that the anti-life shield eventually dissipates.
I still think we should check up the other staircase.
But we mainly need to work out what sort of mechanism/checks are going to be involved with disabling the machine. As with the tower terminals, Quasit will use the blueprints to guide her efforts and will employ Fin as an assistant to get his +2 aid on Disable checks. Something tells me this might be trickier than just rolling a single Disable check to find the off switch.
Tell me what you’d like me to roll. I’ll of course roleplay out the process.

GM_Almonihah |

The machine can actually be disabled by smashing it as well as disabling it. Disable device actually just deals a large amount of damage to the machine--you'd be able to tell this.

![]() |

Just an fyi, I’m leaving for the beach tomorrow and will be there all week (family vacation); I’ll have wi-fi and will be checking these threads at least every morning and night, so I should be able to post at least once a day/when needed…

GM_Almonihah |

That tree *was* a monster, but destroying the World Engine is supposed to return the area fairly quickly to Earth's nearly-no-magic state, and it wasn't that interesting of an enemy, so I figured having it have returned already to being an ordinary tree was better for the flow of the game.
You've cleared the camp, so now is a good time to level up to level 15! This is the last treasure haul from the camp, so once you figure out identifying your magic items you'll want to decide on your next shopping list.
What's the preference for what to do with Selena? If Selena wants to do something 'interesting' with Winter, we could plan on Syvet suggesting an odd ritual when you get back to the Hut, but if you're going with the True Resurrection scroll you'll be waiting a couple days for Zilvazaraat.

Maka Na'Shota |

I'm fine with buying a scroll of True Resurrection unless Selena wants to do something different.
@GM I picked up Pummeling Style way back when we first landed on Triaxus, promptly forget about it, and haven't used it once. Could I retrain that to Extra Wild Talent to pick up the Elemental Whisper talent? Gives me a pseudo familiar I can summon while concentrating.
Picking up my 12th level of Kineticist.
HP: 1d8 ⇒ 5
Skills:
Escape Artist +3
Perception +1
Profession Chef +2
Feat (Kinetic Invocation) - Gives me some spells I can pick up as wild talents.
Favored Class Bonus Feat (Extra Wild Talent: Unraveling Infusion) - Let's me dispel magic with my blasts.
Class Abilities:
Elemental overflow +4
Utility Wild Talent(Blessing of the salamander) - fast healing 5, fire resistance 20 and +2 CMD. I can only cast it only myself unfortunately but it lasts until I remove burn.
Kinetic Blast Dmg: 8d6

Sounds fine! Have fun role-playing that. :D

Quasit updated. Now has 3 attacks per round, so took Greater Two Weapon Fighting to keep pace. 8d6 sneak attack. New Rogue's Edge skill enhancement for Climb.

I'm fine with buying a scroll of True Resurrection unless Selena wants to do something different.
Can we afford that scroll right now? I know a 9th level cleric scroll’s base cost is 3,875 gp which is well within our budget…but True Resurrection has a component cost of 25,000 gp which, from how I read the following, is used to create said scroll:
The price of a scroll is equal to the level of the spell × the creator’s caster level × 25 gp. If the scroll has a material component cost, it is added to the base price and cost to create it…
So this means that while the cost for a scroll of a spell that has no costly material components is 3,875 GP, you add the cost of components to that cost for those scrolls that do, right?
If so, a scroll of True Resurrection costs 28,875 GP…
We just found 17,000 GP worth of treasure which isn’t even close to covering that cost…
I’m not exactly sure of our current loot but perhaps other items we’ve found (or still have) might make up the difference, if we sell the Sword of Planes. Even so, we can pretty much forget about making any upgrades to our current gear which we’ll likely need to survive Elvanna in Book 6…
Not trying to be cold here, I want to see Selena get resurrected like everyone else…but can we afford to do it now? Can we perhaps gather more guns from the camp to supplement our income? Zilvazaraat seemed to prize those…

We also got about 6000g out of the machine.
Let's find out what the magic items are, then Maka can work her magic putting it all into the spread sheet and toting up how much we're each entitled to once we split it evenly. If Selena's share isn't enough for the True Rez scroll, then we'll have a discussion about whether we can afford to chip in to bring her back.
I will say that having someone with good Spellcraft and Arcane Knowledge has been something this party has needed, and she's an alternate healer. And having Baba Yaga's 'granddaughter' around when we release her might be helpful.

Winter the Familiar |

And if that doesn’t work, just get Winter a necklace that lets her speak, such as a permanent Tongues spell or similar. She is supposed to serve as the “spellbook” for Selena, so it’s not unreasonable to assume that she knows as much about magic as Selena did, and that any restrictions on leveling up a familiar is purely a balance issue rather than a narrative truth, and just build her in a similar way to Selena with the same spell list, since she knows all of Selena’s spells.
Narratively, the link between her and Selena might be such that they share spellslots, would could explain why she hasn’t cast spells thus far but would also explain why a caster can cast spells through their familiar, and also fits with Winter being the repository of arcane knowledge for Selena’s spells. Without Selena to use those slots, Winter could use them herself.
Either way, I’m good. I’m comfortable with both paths, so choose as your characters would.

We have 27k gold we held back for just such an occasion and a sword of the planes to sell on top of the rest of the loot, so we are good on that front.

![]() |

Ah, thanks, Maka; I didn’t realize we had that much in reserve, that’s a good thing then…

GM_Almonihah |

I'll have Syvet offer some alternatives when you get to the Hut. :D

![]() |

Taking a 3rd level in Slayer…finished mostly, just deciding on a feat…

Kalchine |

Alright, I am leveled up (mostly.) As always, I have no idea what feat to select. If anyone has any suggestions, I am open.
My focus is on healing and fire magic so if anyone knows of anything that will enhance either of those or thinks that there's something I'm missing, I'm all ears. Here's my list, currently -
Triaxian Bonus: Elemental Focus (Fire)
1st: Greater Elemental Focus (Fire)
3rd: Sharp Senses
5th: Minor Spell Expertise (Cure Light Wounds)
7th: Natural Spell
9th: Aspect of the Beast (Night Senses)
11th: Healer's Hands
13th: Spell Focus (Evocation)

Kalchine |

Oh, and I'm going to need to swap out Chest Thumper's plain chain shirt for a mithral chain shirt since his Dex just went up to 20, so hopefully there's enough money in my cut to cover that.

GM_Almonihah |

Hey GM, should everyone go for an alternative to rezzing Selena, how do you want me to build Winter? I figure it is better to start sooner than later, especially with my current work schedule.
It's seeming likely that they'll go for resurrecting Selena, but if not, there's two options I'm thinking of:
#1: Selena soul-shares Winter's body rather like the Twin Soul ability of a Beast-bonded Witch. This would involve no rebuilding at all, just Winter and Selena getting used to sharing the same body.
#2: Syvet claims to be doing #1, but actually transfers Selena's powers to Winter (probably claiming after the fact that whoops, something went wrong, sorry). This would take more of a rebuild--Winter would be a 15th-level spellcaster loosely based on Selena, but I'd allow you to make some changes to the build if you wished, and we'd generate PC-level stats for Winter.
Which of those two options would you prefer?

![]() |

@GM: Will Zilvazaraat ID the items we found on Rasputin & Headless for a fee? Tez and Saki have +7/+6 in Spellcraft and some of these items might be too high a level for them to identify…
