Winter hopped in circles around the merchant, obviously glad he had arrived. She waited not very calmly as Fin took the goods.

Winter yaps at Quasit angrily when she leaves the eating area and if she continues to be ignored, will go try coaxing food out of the other girls.

Winter steered clear of any hot water, especially giant tubs of it, but when breakfast rolled around she very much followed Quasit around, intensely watching her, almost like she is waiting for something.

Winter gently gets off Anastasia as she is wisked away to a bed. The fox stretches and shakes , then wanders around catching what’s going on, clearly rolling her eyes at Quasit in a very similar manner to Selena, before moving on to watch the skeleton man for a while.

Winter silently supports her by simply being a huggable ball of fur in the girl’s lap.

While Quasit was cheering Anastasia up with a story, Winter slowly approached, and if allowed, curled up in the girl’s lap.

Winter barked with what seemed undoubtedly like laughter at Maka’s obvious misunderstanding about birds and bees.

Another question for the GM, when Selena is rezzed, will it be her last body, or since this is true rez, will it be her original body?

I expect that reincarnation would reset what counts as her “original” body as that is what makes sense given how reincarnation is an exception to things such as resetting when one would die of old age. But I wanted to ask just in case.

A question occurs to me GM,

A) if Selena is rezzed, what mechanics do I need to worry about? Level her up? Stay the same?

B) if it takes the team a while to rez Selena and I build Winter, what happens if Selena is rezzed later?

Just a note, you guys did use magic to talk to the other familiar Syvet, and thus knowing it is possible and how to do it, you might consider it for talking to Winter.

Meanwhile, Syvet appears by Winter from... well, wherever she's been hiding in the Hut lately. "Losing your master... I do know your pain, you know," she commisserates with her fellow familiar, voice quiet to avoid attracting the attention of the others in the room. Call it Perception 20 to hear if you feel like rolling. "But... you can feel it, can't you? With how recent her death was, there's still a bit of a connection remaining between you. We might be able to do something with that, if her former friends aren't planning to resurrect her..."

”I am curious about these ideas you have, if they won’t interfere with bringing her back, we have plans for this. She’s been dead before, and we don’t plan on this being the last time. It’ll be more difficult this time, but the merchant guy seems able to get the kind of supplies needed. I think the others are in favor of reviving her, but some concern about how to accomplish it is there. Maybe I should see if the merchant can understand us. He travels a lot and might have magic to understand all the different languages he needs to interact with.”

Maka gets the idea that Winter was rolling her eyes at her, or maybe a grateful look, or a mix perhaps, before trying to lap up stew juice a lick at a time, noticeably unable to pull out the chunks of meat from the bottom of the bowl, nor able to just sip the juice.

Winter looks at Maka and gives a short bark to get her attention, and licks her lips.

Hey GM, should everyone go for an alternative to rezzing Selena, how do you want me to build Winter? I figure it is better to start sooner than later, especially with my current work schedule.

And if that doesn’t work, just get Winter a necklace that lets her speak, such as a permanent Tongues spell or similar. She is supposed to serve as the “spellbook” for Selena, so it’s not unreasonable to assume that she knows as much about magic as Selena did, and that any restrictions on leveling up a familiar is purely a balance issue rather than a narrative truth, and just build her in a similar way to Selena with the same spell list, since she knows all of Selena’s spells.

Narratively, the link between her and Selena might be such that they share spellslots, would could explain why she hasn’t cast spells thus far but would also explain why a caster can cast spells through their familiar, and also fits with Winter being the repository of arcane knowledge for Selena’s spells. Without Selena to use those slots, Winter could use them herself.

Either way, I’m good. I’m comfortable with both paths, so choose as your characters would.

Winter barks at Quasit, points at the dead then pantomimes a screech and bite, then looks upwards and shields her eyes as if from a bright light.

Winter plonks around Quasit before following Fin, at a distance.

Winter seems distinctly unhappy with the giant ape, but it being gentle, she decides not to bite it and instead shoot pleading looks at the Kalchine.

Here be Winter’s profile for posting.

No idea if I should fully implement Winter as a character or just wait a short bit to get Selena back, a little guidance here would be appreciated GM.

As Quasit finally gets the idea of what happened to Selena, Winter starts digging through the pile cloth to pull out the pouches, especially the one with a few snacks to munch on in the meantime.
