PbP PFS2: Breaking the Storm by redeux

Recruitment

Hello,

We are on the horizon of a 3-part metaplot story arch. When the last multi-part story arch was released I got to play with the same group for both parts and had a blast. I wanted to put feelers out to see if there is enough interest for a group to play through the upcoming story arch, which is:

  • 2-20 Breaking the Storm: Bastion in Embers Tier 5-8, Tags: Metaplot
  • 2-22 Breaking the Storm: Excising Ruination Tier 7-10, Tags: Metaplot, Vigilant Seal
  • 2-24 Breaking the Storm: Parting Clouds Tier 7-10, Tags: Metaplot, glyph (glyph is for gm's working towards their 5* as i slowly am doing)

    Important notes:

  • The expectation is that if you join that you will stick through for all three scenarios. In particular the 2nd and 3rd scenarios are tiers 7-10. There are no pregens to be played at this tier so leaving the party part way through would put us in a bad spot-- I'd have to find an additional player if we didnt meet the table minimum, we would have to decide to play "hard mode", or we would have to cancel the remaining scenarios(s). I want to avoid this so am asking for commitment to all three scenarios.
  • The first scenario is a tier 5-8. The second and third scenarios are 7-10. You can change characters between scenarios if you'd like or need. In particular you may want to switch after the 1st scenario if you have a level 9 character you've been itching to play.
  • Scenarios will be run using Google slides.
  • This is three separate scenarios. I have not seen any of them yet, but tentative plan for anywhere from 4-7 weeks each. Meaning this is a long-commitment, much like joining a stand-alone adventure like Fall of Plaguestone.
  • Posting expectation will be 1x/day during Monday-Friday, and at least once over the weekend.

    Anticipated Start date:
2-20 will begin Wednesday, June 2nd. Im not sold on this exact date if we need to give more time. But I'd like to start around that time.

    If interested:
    Please provide the following:
    1. Describe your PC and include Class/archetypes/Level. Will you play the same PC for all 3 scenarios? If not, describe your other PC(s) that will be played.
    2. Can you commit to all three scenarios?
    3. Will you be available to start Wednesday, June 2nd? If not when is the soonest you could commit?

I don't know how much, if any, interest there will be for this as I know this is a pretty high tier level for PbP. I will be giving spots on first come first serve to those who can commit to all three scenarios. There will be a minimum party size of 4 since we cannot rely on pregens for the 2nd and 3rd scenarios.

If you have questions, feel free to ask. Thanks!

This is such a cool idea!

    2) I am down to commit with a single character to all three.

    1) Got two Level Eight characters, Anri and Gunda, who would both Level to Ninth for the final Scenario. Leaning towards the former over the latter (Vigilant Seal), but could be swayed depending on party comp.

    Anri:

    Wizard / Fighter Multiclass.

With time and information, Anri shines best, using her Spell Substitution Thesis to swap her Spell Slots around to adapt to a changing situation. Her warrior's training gives her added versatility from just behind the melee front line using reach weapons, or, punishing enemies who falsely believe that pressing close will cause her to fold.

Anri is also a dark and mercurial poet!

    Gunda:

Ranger / Beastmaster with Eagle Companion.

"Jakoby" is a capable warrior at any range, and even better tracker and wilderness survivor. Though she favors her bow and remaining at range while commanding "Ro" to harry attackers, she can also supplement the melee front line with the backing of her allies as needed, using her knowledge of wild things to the party's advantage.

Gunda is also a wily and enthusiastic pipe smoker!

    3) Down to start June 2nd

XC) Two Glyph GM myself to boot!

    Dark Archive

    Definitely Interested.

    1. First scenario character would have to be:

Greezgux Sragmiagz (Goblin Sorcerer with an unending appetite) Lvl 7 so I can certainly play him for all three scenarios.

Otherwise for the last 2 if folks are more higher tier I can bring in:

Kas 'Broken Troll' Oldun (Human Cleric Freed slave who recently took on the cause of Sarenrae) Lvl 9 so he can only do the last two.

    2. I can certainly commit myself to all three.

    3. I would be available June 02, though if starting a little sooner Greezgux is playing at PaizoCon Online.

    Argh, argh, argh!

So I would love to play the series with a particular character, who is currently 8.2 (so would be perfect for the three-parter).

Unfortunately, I've already signed up for a PaizoCon (VTT) 2-20.

    My options:

    1. I could just drop the game from PaizoCon. Frankly, this option would kind of annoy me, as a protracted signup process already caused me to miss two games I had wanted to play, and if I drop this one, I'd just end up paying $25 to play 2-3 games. Also, I have already bartered the free time with my family to have two blocks free that weekend. Throwing all that away is a little irritating emotionally.

    2. Do PFS2 GMs get replays based on glyphs? If so, I could play with a different character during VTT and then replay this on PbP. I think that would be a decent use of a replay (I've never used them in PFS1 or PFS2, but getting to play a high level series with a preferred character seems like a damn fine use of a replay).

    3. I could just apply for the 2nd and 3rd sessions and maybe pair up with someone who can only play the first?

    ---

Quinoline Silicate is a level 8(.2) bomber alchemist with a (rarely-used) wizard dedication (no additional feats beyond the dedication itself). She's very much a "jack of all trades, master of none" character - bombs are okay right now, but only get (relatively) worse over time as she's capped out on Expert proficiency, but she's got a lot of formulas that hopefully rise in value as utility/buffs. She picked up Shield Block and Battle Medicine so she can get into the mix when needed.

She's free now, and not signed up for any PaizoCon PbP games.

I'll be on vacation for two (separate) weeks in July, but I should have Internet, and should be able to keep up with games as a player (I've arranged so that I won't be GMing on vacation).

My only level 7 (soon to be 8) PC likely will not be ready by then. (Just finished the first combat in Freedom for Wishes.)

I could play a level 5 wizard in part 1 and then switch to my alchemist for parts 2 and 3 but I wonder if there will be boons missed unless you play all 3 parts with the same PC.

Sounds good - I would not start sooner than June 2nd to avoid PaizoCon Online (VTT) conflict.

Understandable about #1, I'd be in a similar boat. GM's do get replays based on glyphs see here(click). Note that currently there is no way to "recharge" GM replays. In PFS1 eventually there was a way to recharge your replays but there has been no comment on whether or not that will ever be a thing in PFS2. Essentially treat it as a consumable. If you're okay with that then it's certainly an option. #3 would be an option if someone else was willing to step out after part 1 for you to take their place. Or it seems like there might be enough interest in at least one table. I've had one GM (whom I won't name yet) mention they might be willing to take up an overflow table. So potentially there could be a spot reserved for you on parts 2 or 3 if a table (mine or otherwise) launches with less than full party for part 1.

    Michael Hallet wrote:

Hard to say, if anything I suspect it would be like previous interactions where you might get bonuses or penalties based on having the prior chronicles. I suspect we're less likely to see any meaningful thing you'd miss out on by playing part 1 with a different char, since many (VTT) players likely will be playing parts 2 and 3 with their level 9s. I wouldn't expect there to be a conditional boon for completing all three parts with the same character. Just my speculation though.

When would you start? My alchemist is one encounter into a scenario that will get him to 7. Happy to commit once that happens. I also have a sorcerer 8 (soon to be 9) who can jump into the latter two if the party balance needs it.

Only a 1 glyph GM, but I wrote part 1 and my brother wrote part 2 for whatever that’s worth.

EDIT: Saw the start date! If we’re done by then I’d love to play.

Hm, Seems like bad planning on my part for failing to give people time to free up their characters.

With June 2nd date we have
    Rainzax (for sure)
    Tyranius (for sure)
    Watery Soup (Maybe)
    Michael Hallet (Maybe)
GM Skeemo (may not be free in time).

So worst case scenario we can bump things back a few weeks or a month to give time for Michael's preferred PC to become available, and GM Skeemo's only PC to become available.

Or if there is excess interest then perhaps one group starts on June 2nd and the overflow table could delay ~few weeks or a month for PC's to become available.

Definitely don't want to exclude anyone because they were caught in a game at the wrong time

    1. Describe your PC and include Class/archetypes/Level. Will you play the same PC for all 3 scenarios? If not, describe your other PC(s) that will be played. This guy is a melee fighter, and is a Ranger Archetype, going for monster hunter. Zac Freelan is a gentleman and a half-elf.
    2. Can you commit to all three scenarios? Yes. Also, this is my only character at that level, so based upon the assumption that he does not die, yes, I can commit.
    3. Will you be available to start Wednesday, June 2nd? If not when is the soonest you could commit? Assuming I do play with him at the PaizoCon and nothing goes wrong, he will be at 68 XP before I play the first scenario. Then after the first scenario at level 7. If something goes wrong where the scenario gets cancelled, or a more unlikely event, he dies, I won't be able to play with him, as he won't make level 7. I am signed up for 2-07 with him at Paizcon on Friday, and it is full, so it would be unlikely for the game to get cancelled, unless the GM gets sick or something.

    Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

I have a level 7 fighter that I've signed up to play 2 games at Paizocon. She will be free for a June 2 start and would level up after the first scenario to 8. I would definitely want to play her in all three scenarios.

    1. Astrid Gertasdottir-Fighter 7 with rogue archetype. Melee sword and board two weapon fighter. Astrid is at least trained in most skills and has clever improviser for the rest.

    2. Yes to all three scenarios.

    3. Yes to Wednesday the 2nd.

Darn it! I would love to be able to do it, but my highest level PC is just level 5. But I wish you the best of luck with that run!

    Rogue/pathfinder agent/8

Omble is an half-orc scholar from Sandpoint that aim to become a sage. He was working as a scribe for the society before deciding to join as a field agent after a letter from his father. He loves learning new things.

Yes, he will play three. And think you have met him.

    2. Can you commit to all three scenarios?

    3. Will you be available to start Wednesday, June 2nd? If not when is the soonest you could commit? Yes, if am able to finish the scenario he is now.

If we delay the start, I could go slow progression for my sorcerer’s current scenario so he’s still at 8 and can play all 3, so I’ll have two options for PCs. My sorcerer is I. The same game as Omble.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

A slot just opened up in a 2-18 game. I've canceled my 2-20; Quinoline is free now and all set to go for all three scenarios.

Alright, so at the moment we have 8 players, and 3 of which are tied up in the same game together. Tyranius is willing to take a second group with a delayed start. Thank you! Right now we're looking at 4 players per table. i'd like to get 5 player at each if possible just in case someone has to drop we still have legal tables. Below is the TENTATIVE plan

Group 1 - gm redeux (June 2nd start)
    rainzax (Prefers Wizard/Fighter archetype)
tyranius (Sorcerer, then switching to cleric for 7-10s)
    Double Gold (Fighter/Ranger archetype)
    Watery Soup (Bomber Alchemist)
Halgur (Fighter/rogue archetype (will be switched to group 2 if we dont get additional sign-ups))
Open seat (will only be used if we get 2 more sign-ups for group 2)

Group 2 - gm tyranius (start TBD. pending wrap-up of 2-16, could be a few weeks after june 2nd)
    Michael Hallet (Bomber Alchemist)
    Christopher Wasko (Sorcerer/Runescarred dedication)
    Gayel Nord (Rogue/pathfinder agent dedication)
    Open seat

I've posted in the 2-16 table several of you are at, and then I'll follow up with another post in Cottonseed in a few days.

TLDR everyone who has shown interest so far will have a table. Might change slightly depending on if we get more signups or not.

    Envoy's Alliance

You have plans to deal with the unlikely event characters die? After all, someone dies in the first or second scenario and that is their only character, it affects groups going forward.
Many of us are lucky to have 1 character this high, let alone two.

my plan is to have more than the table minimum so should the group still want to continue onto the next scenario, they would be able to do so. Additionally, PC's may have achievement points to purchase a second chance boon. If you've got a character this high then you would've earned enough for a revival unless you spent it on a uncommon/rare ancestry or heritage boon. And specifically for the 2nd table, I do have my own PC I might be able to bring in as well. There would be chance to try to recruit more PC's if necessary or call/stop the run between scenarios.

Though yes, that is an inherent risk that a PC death could throw a wrench in things.

I cannot for the life of me find out what the price is for Second Chance (or any other boons). I have 120 AcP or so saved up, I figure that's enough, but if not, I have a second character at level 7.

Second Chance | Gain the benefits of a resurrect ritual. | 40.00 AcP

AcP boon prices generally can only be found under "My Organized Play" and then "Boons" page. Finding the actual boon text for some boons can be found on the Pathfinder Society FAQ. This particular boon text isn't available, but I happen to have it. here's the full text

    Second Chance wrote:

[ ] Second Chance (Limited-Use, Service): Adventuring is deadly business, but you have a powerful favor you can call in if your travels result in a premature death. You can check the box that precedes this boon to gain the benefits of the resurrect ritual (Pathfinder Core Rulebook page 415), so long as the ritual’s total cost in diamonds does not exceed 1,000 gp. If the ritual would cost more than 1,000 gp, you must pay any additional costs beyond 1,000 gp.

The ritual takes 1 day to perform and automatically succeeds.

The cost of the ritual is 75gp x PC level. At this level range, 40 AcP fully covers the ritual price

And to head off any questions -- you don't need to buy this in advance. You'd just need to buy it if your PC dies and then let your GM know before the session ends.

Just a nod to say, i have seen the message.

Not sure why I was looking in the Guide to Organized Play.

Yeah, I'm okay to die three times, then.

I'd be happy to join Table 2 with my fighter/marshal (Level 7).

2-20 would be a replay for me, but I'm happy to burn a glyph replay to play at a fun table.

Excellent to hear that Matt. WIll keep an eye out on the players on the 2-16 table. Once they look close to wrapping up I'll send out some messages.

    Hey Table One.

Having a hard time deciding between two characters I love (here).

On the one hand, I'd like to play to Faction (Vigilant Seal); on the other, I'd like to play to Ethnicity (Ulfen)...

I think I'll leave it to a party vote: feel free to click favorite on either Anri or Gunda below!

Hi all! I went ahead and opened a discussion page for Table 1 (rainzax, tyranius, Double Gold, Watery Soup, Halgur)

Please dot in and then head to the slides to fill out PC info for reporting/chronicles.

I'll let Tyranius figure out how to proceed with Table 2. If we need to keep this recruitment page open or if it makes more sense to have Table 2 dot into the other table now.

I made a gameplay thread for those 4 to check into. PM's have been sent to.

Hello All im interested on tier 7-10

    Envoy's Alliance

If there's still space I'd be interested in taking part for table 2. I have a level 6 Oracle who's 4 XP away from level 7, so she'd just squeak in for the last 2 parts.

    Horizon Hunters

Warpriest of Gorum lvl 5 interested into table 2

    Dark Archive

@Eithrim and Zhao- Sent you a PM for Table 2. Just keep in mind that Table two is a few weeks out still. We are awaiting 3 of the players to finish up a game they are currently in.

    Scarab Sages

Marking my interest in this as I'm planning on running the scenarios locally and would enjoy the chance to play them with my higher tier characters as well. That said, I've already played Part 1 at Paizocon, but I wouldn't be against filling the table for no credit either as a pregen or as a society PC and playing normally from part 2+, just coming in as a PC in part 2+, or whatever else would seem like a good solution.

If any of those options would be acceptable, feel free to add me to the list. If not, I'll keep an eye out as the first tables are wrapping up and be available to fill for any players that have to drop the PbP going into part 2.

    EDIT:

    Forgot to include character info:
Characters I'd be bringing are Amada, a Precision Ranger 8 and his pet hawk-owl Necalli. Amada fills the Rogue party role fairly well with most of the skills in the game being Trained or higher (Master in Thievery) and the Monster Hunter feat to ID enemies as he Hunt Prey's them, and also is specc'd into Multiclass Wizard for the ability to spam True Strike from a Staff of Divination for his thrown Trident Strikes while self-buffing with Haste. Generally he plays like a jack-of-all-trades. Currently Amada is on track to hit level 9 after one more credit, which in this case would be the end of Part 2.

Hey Falgaia, there will be room at either my table or potentially Tyranius's for the 7-10s. Replay for no credit can only be done to make for a legal table and I believe both of us have legal tables for part 1. So would need to either burn a GM replay for part 1 or join starting with part 2. I have no issue if you want to join at part 2, though this will be many weeks away yet.

I'll likely just join at part 2 in that case. I'll be keeping an eye on the forums for when Part 1 wraps up.

Sounds good, that will make Falgaia my table's 6th. i'll make a note to reach out when we're winding down and are almost done with part 1.
